I tried loseit and settled on mynetdiary. Considerably more polished and functional. Feel free to join us! Trying to get the group there big and active.

I still don't understand why MFP decided to do away with the newsfeed. So many of us have gotten support or given support to people on the MFP newsfeed. We have formed lasting friendships and cheered each other on, laughed with each other and cried with each other. Its a great loss to a lot of us and IMHO a very foolish decision by mfp.7

The news feed is what made MFP better than all the other calorie counting apps combined. Without the newsfeed they are just one of the many. I went over to Lose It! They have a newsfeed. MFP’s was better but at least it’s a newsfeed.7

I'm very late to the party here, but this, along with the other bugs that frustrate me (showing ads to a premium user, often covering screen in interstitial ad to sell premium, e.g. multiple examples of poor coding practices to check subscriptions status, and also random duplication of items when copying in food diary) I have now turned off my auto renew on my subscription and will leave the MFP community once the subscription runs out. I will also be voicing my opinion in the appstore and suggest others do likewise. Ripping out a main feature with no alternative(community is not an alternative in any way) is not a way to retain or attract users.8

It's probably not worth the effort of reviewing on the app store. MFP is burying anything negative with "Developer Responses" to older, more positive reviews.3 -
I agree that they shouldn't have deleted the newsfeed. I liked that feature more than I thought I would when I signed up. I'm not able to keep up with my friends on here like I did before.6

We are opening up to our group to anyone who would like the interaction they miss from the Newsfeed.
Feel free to search and find us or copy and paste this link Spark People Friends

At this point I am doing my logging at MyNetDiary. Yes, it doesn't have a newfeed at the moment either, but we will see if we can convince them to add one. I know there are multiple MFP people there now.2

Is MyNetDiary only available for phones? Some of us that are older or have vision problems need a website version. Thanks!0

I don't know from experience, but when I was poking around, I saw that their site says: "Creating an account means you can log in to any MyNetDiary-supported platform and access your data. Convenient logging is essential. Use any device--your computer, iPhone, iPad, or Android phone. And when you create an account, you won't lose all of your data if your phone is lost or stolen."
It's free to set an account up, so you might go in and just look around and see if it will work for you.0 -

People seem to be able to login on desktop, but I have heard it isn't as fully featured as things are often made for mobile first nowadays.
Either way, feel free to join us!

For logging, it has a webpage. However, the community stuff on the webpage is completely separate from that of the app. The app is where they seem to be putting their energy in terms of development.0 -
OK...Thanks. I just recently had an issue with my right eye. I'm scheduled to see a retinal specialist soon. So, at this time, it's hard for me to log things on my phone.
But after I see the doctor (well, hopefully they can fix it) maybe I'll be able to use a mobile device again.
Thank you all for your help!0 -

I don’t have a desktop.
But I do use a larger than typical font on my phone because my eyes are older than 50. 😅
I just checked this on my app for you. I set my phone to the max font size. And have discovered that yes, I can use the My Net Diary app on my phone with a massive font.
So. MND passes the accessibility test on that point.1 -
Might as well do away with the friends feature, too, at this point. Sad times.
MFP still has the advantage of a better database and the ability to add recipes, but that's it.2 -
Bring it back!0

The main reason I came here every day, after logging my food, is to check the newsfeed to see and cheer on my friends’ activities. Now that it’s gone, mfp is pretty useless to me. And it hurts my heart to think about abandoning it because I’ve been here over 12 years.
Smh this was a terrible decision.
Wading through communities and groups and whatnot just to find my friends sounds like a chore and something I’m sure most of us don’t want to be bothered with.

BRING BACK THE NEWSFEED! It the only reason I recommended friends to this app, so I could "like" their progress and workouts and now you took that away 😡

This^^^ what she said.
I created this earlier and laughed a little too hard while doing it, followed by tears 😢 grieving the loss of our newsfeed. I plan on making it to 5,000 days. When I first started 4865+ days ago, my goal was to hit 1000. Then, I upped to 2500. When I hit that goal, I challenged myself to double that. When I hit 5000, if we don't have our newsfeed back, I'm probably out of here.

I was so pissed they got rid of the free barcode scanning that I went to Lose It. The only reason I came back was for the newsfeed. Being able to see and interact with people's streaks, workouts and goals was what set mfp apart from other apps. This was not a "rarely used" thing at all and it was the reason anyone recommended this app to their friends.8
-
BRING THE NEWSFEED BACK!!! I'm totally unable to see my friends progress or streak or workouts. I want to be able to like and comment to keep them motived!7

@MargaretYakoda Thank you so much for your response. But, at this time, I can't even use my touch screen laptop very easily.
I just turned 67. But I've never had to wear eyeglasses (except reading glasses for the computer, etc).
My condition started very suddenly. And to make a long story short, I've seen an optometrist who then called in an ophthalmologist. I guess I had a hemorrhage in my eye. They then referred me to a retinol specialist (MD). But that won't be until next month.
It's almost funny. But when I'm using my laptop and try to enter a food, I end up hitting the entry above or below what I'm trying to select. A bit frustrating! So using a mouse is much easier 🙂
Anyways, I hope my condition is fixable. And for the meantime, I think I'll just stay with MFP.
Take care

It's like the MFP developers completely forgot the importance of accountability, reward, and extrinsic motivation. Direct peer support is essential, and without the newsfeed that is gone.
(Sure there are these forums to engage with, but it's not the same. It's like stepping back about 15 years.)9 -
We need the newsfeed back!! This activity board thing is crappy. It’s useless and not at all the same effect. I can’t follow what my friends are doing here nor can I communicate with them. Why go backwards in time like this. C’mon mfp get with it. Bring it back!!!4

Is this why the home page is so useless and meaningless now?3
-
EVERYONE I’ve spoken with misses the old social wall. Please bring it back!2
-
Bring back the newsfeed MFP please !3
-
I sure do miss that newsfeed. The new home page is of no use to me so I mostly just use the diary and a few groups but it is sad to lose touch with my long time friends. 😣 The streaks, the weigh ins, the diary closes and the activity postings were such a HUGE part of MFP and now like that they are gone. poof. No more premium for me and I did that for years.6
