61.70/80.0 mile goal
I went to the gym this morning. After I got home, I did a treadmill run. It was already way too hot to run outside. The run was 2/1 min at (4.5 mph-4.7 mph) x 3 then finished at 4.8 mph. Avg pace was 13:31 min/mile. Avg HR was 123 with a max of 140 bpm. I had a pain just under my knee during the first 4.7 mph run, so that is why I went back to 4.5 mph. Don't know what it was, but it didn't hurt again, so it was just something I guess that needed to be worked out.6 -
Ran my 5km today! I looked on my strava and it looks like I've ran 128 km in June so far, with 15km or so planned for the rest of the month.9

I woke yesterday feeling exhausted, so I did the sensible thing and didn't run. I was shattered. Spent the day doing arts and crafts instead (my daughter had crazy hat day at school as part of their Reading Olympics fundraiser - my efforts were good enough to win her a prize, and from the official New Zealand Olympic Team mascot no less!)
Anyway, when I headed out today, I ran 7km at 5:48 pace without even really trying - my average heart rate was only 137. It was fabulous. My watch even told me I was 'peaking'.
Take rest days people!8 -
Neighborhood 1Mile (at 13"34 pace). streak day 57
Gut check day, I was running around until 8:30 p.m., then got home and contemplated my choices. Eventually....I laced'em up and went for a run.9 -

You are doing great @jem302 .
@ContraryMaryMary You did a great job on that hat. No wonder she won....and she is so cute. I'm glad that after a rest day you felt so good for your run today!
@chris_in_cal Keeping a streak going is great motivation when you just really don't want to. Great job getting it done!
Glad you beat the rain @emptydog . I've actually thought about taking ballet, but I really don't know if I'm flexible enough at this point in my life. I do think there is an adult class in town somewhere. I may look into it at some point. I felt better about not getting to after I saw a video of me playing the piano a few years back. I'm not a great player, but my finger movements reminded me of a ballet.6 -

@kgirlhart That is a lot of cats!
I was planning on doing 10km but turned around early due to the heat and ended up running 9.2km. I will gladly admit it was not a day where I felt like I could run forever (at least not without water and a pool to jump in at will). I wanted to keep my heart rate down so I don’t have to take a rest day tomorrow, but that proved to be quite a challenge. I really had to slow down. All in all that worked and it was a nice, if uncomfortable run. No cats for me to count . Next time maybe I will count cyclists and see if that helps.

Treadmill this morning after a couple of hot mornings in an effort to have a truly easy day every now and then. It was much needed. I'll be back outside tomorrow.6 -
Thursday 10k today, although it’s Friday and I ran 11.5km.
I was a bit short on time yesterday but today’s a public holiday so I had loads of time. Now furiously packing as we fly to Rarotonga (tiny, tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean) first thing tomorrow.
Looking forward to some flat running but not so keen on going from perfect, crisp clear and cool running conditions to humidity overdrive - the sudden change is madness to run in. However, as the holiday is mainly about warmth and relaxation, I’ll focus on that (and certainly not the weather forecast that’s predicting flash floods for Monday!).
Coincidentally, one of my running friends will also be in Raro while I’m there so I floated the idea of running around the island - it’s about 32k around - but I have yet to hear back…7 -
Thanks! It's Jasmine C, but I have a feeling there's a more specific username somewhere I can't find hahaha

Done my 5km today as well!

Thanks @AlphaHowls . They are so pretty.
Nice run in the heat. No shame in cutting it short @Laurz9191 .
Good idea for an indoor run every once in a while @martaindale !
Have fun on your vacation @ContraryMaryMary . That sounds fun and running around the island with your friend would be interesting....a bit far for me, but I know you could do it.2 -

Yes, absolutely! In 2023 I ran my first half marathon, my goal for 2025 is another half at a better pace and my long term goal is a full marathon (any pace as long as it gets done haha).
As I get back into it I'd like to add at least one 10km run per week but I will work up to that, my goal for July will be to run one 10km and keep up with my consistency otherwise. My pace has suffered with my slump and that is something I am working on, it's requiring a lot of patience with myself as I used to run a 26 minute 5km and I am currently at around 36 minutes, but I think the priority right now is to build consistency and then work on pacing goals.6 -

I didn't sleep the best last night, so I hit the snooze a little extra today. That put me behind and I didn't have much time for exercise before heading out in the day. So, I did intervals of 0.25 miles at 3.8, (4.5-4.7/4.0 mph), 4.8 mph, 3.8. (The last of the running was 0.1/0.15 miles at 4.0/4.8 mph. - in case someone did the math and it didn't add up. LOL) Avg pace for the run was 13:47 min/mile. Overall, the avg HR was 111 with a max of 136 bpm.
Cardiologist report in the spoiler.I had my annual follow up with the cardiologist today. Everything looks great. He is going to schedule me for a cardiac ultra sound to make sure my bicuspid valve is still working good, but he said it sounds like it is.
I was given permission to experiment with cutting back on my high blood pressure medicine, but he doesn't think my blood pressure will stay down without it. We shall see. If I can get off of it, I would like to. /spoiler][6 -

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 11"23 pace). streak day 58
I am experimenting with my watches "pace alerts" It's a bit annoying and also helpful in understanding what different paces feel like6 -
3.2km easy run last night. Was still 32C (90F) at 9pm so I just sucked it up and went out. Went better than expected - finally hitting the point where I feel like I'm actually training, and not plodding along like an elephant.
Garmin gives me another 3.2km easy run on Saturday and a 5km negative split run on Sunday. Finally getting some speedwork, yay!
@quilteryoyo cardiologist report looks good, congrats!
@jem302 I feel like we're in the same boat since I've been off running for 3 years. I used to have a 28 min 5k pb, and now I'm barely getting 9min/km LOL. Good thing running is one of the few surefire investments in life.
@Laurz9191 I will try counting cyclists next time - I expect to hit several hundred6 -

I have used those in the past and also found them to be pretty annoying. The one time I think they come in handy is when you are building speed workouts with target paces. Even then, I tend to be pretty generous in the pace range I set. The first alert always comes before I’ve actually had time to get up to pace so it always tells me I’m going too slow and then within a few seconds beeps again to tell me I’m in range. It’s a bit sensitive for my liking but it helps keep you from looking at your watch all the time when you’re trying to maintain a pace.4 -

81F feels like 90F at sunrise today. I briefly considered the treadmill but ultimately went outside. It was fine. Hot but fine. My HR is a lovely example of cardiac drift despite the 4/1 intervals and an easy pace, still ended up drifting into zone 5 on the last few run intervals. I have 8 miles planned tomorrow and conditions are supposed to be similar. I am heavily weighing the pros and cons of indoor vs outdoor running.7 -

Yesterday was my mom's 80th birthday,. We surprised her with an overnight girl's night at the lake cabin where we often have family gatherings. She was really surprised especially since we celebrated her birthday 2 weeks ago at the family reunion so she thought we weren't planning anything.
I didn't run today. I knew I would be too tired to get up early and run. We all got to bed about 2:45 so getting up before dawn was not an option. But I did run yesterday. I just didn't get a chance to post it. It was hot, but not a bad run. I ran 6.25 miles. I counted the cats again and counted 36. @quilteryoyo I think most of them are strays. Maybe 8-10 belong to someone. And some are kind of semi-stray. They are cats that people feed, but other than that they just roam about.

Hi everyone!
I went for an easy 10.6km run this morning. The weather was warm but not nearly as uncomfortable as yesterday and there was a nice breeze. I thought counting cyclists would be easy, but I only saw 5. Yesterday when it was so hot out I easily saw four times as many .
I ran so slow that I ended up being late for a meeting and everyone was waiting for me to start (big oops!). If I can manage to get out early tomorrow I will try to do a bit of speed work.
194.9/200km for June. One run to go till I meet my goal!5
