Disappointed that the News Feed is being discontinued

Two years into my lifestyle change journey, I am so discouraged that MFP is shutting off the newsfeed feature. I have learned so much from my MFP friends and because this code is old and buggy, it's being removed. As a former IT manager, I know that there's always the calvary to the rescue! Come on, MFP! Please don't remove my inspiration!

The newsfeed was MFP's best feature, in my opinion. I've been using it for 9 years. No reason to continue with this site now. Seems like MFP could do better by us. I hope it will be reinstated somehow, if MFP really tries.10

I stopped using the newsfeed years ago.
Apparently, they'll install a more modern alternative.1 -

The "general feed" is the community. I'm afraid I could never see the point of the newsfeed. It was just an extra thing that gave me the occasional pang of guilt because I felt like, since I had a few friends, I should go in there and do something.4 -
that would totally suck. i'm very disappointed.

Sorry kind of new here, I don't even know where this newsfeed everyone is so upset about is? Just curious? why was it so liked and what will it cause once its gone?1

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a feature that was rarely used. I know mine is full of automatically generated posts when other people did some exercise or logged food.
It's when you click on the blue words at the top left of the page: myfitnesspal
That takes you to the area where you can log food and exercise.
But first it shows you Your Daily Summary, and then below that is the Newsfeed.

Agreed. The newsfeed to me was entirely useless. Just a bunch of Neverending robotic entries of "so and so logged in for x days in a row." "So and so completed their diary" "so and so logged 20 minutes of yoga".-1 -

A world of difference for those of us who have a close-knit group of friends. I have met many of these people in real life. And for those I have yet to meet, I have developed strong bonds and care deeply about their lives. The newsfeed carries tremendous value to me and many others. Sadly, we are likely in the minority, but do not disparage it as unworthy when you missed the boat on friendship and what was truly under your nose.

So those of us who don't find value in the news feed are friendless and oblivious? OK.
I think MFP's making a mistake getting rid of the news feed, since many people do seem to like and use it, but it has no particular usefulness to me.
I used it for quite a while at first, found it disorganized, largely repetitive, and mostly unhelpful. That's not a judgement of the people who do like it.

Honestly, some appear to be
It has declined in technical quality over the past few years as it was filled with bugs and crashes, but who you fill it with, matters. If you choose not to engage meaningfully on yours, more power to you, it matters not to me. I appreciate your seeing the error in removing a feature you don't utilize.

Posting the #SaveTheNewsfeed efforts for those just joining the conversation:
⭐ Changed my app store rating to 1 star. Unfortunately, with 2,645,672 ratings over the last 14+/- years, the total 4.2 star rating hasn't dropped over the last few days.
💵 Canceled my premium subscription a couple days ago. Although, like many others, it bills a year at a time, so I don't know how quickly it will hit their pocket books.
👤 I will be joining:... we will boycott MFP on Monday, May 27 by not logging into the site. If enough people don’t log in, that may show MFP what it would look like once the newsfeed is gone

I'm a Newsfeed fan, but I 've been using Community for 2 days, and I'm already annoyed. It is full of negativity. People who can't post their personal opinions without adding in a jab about someone else's feelings. People who just join in the conversation for the sake of being weird and rude. My MFP Newsfeed pals are amazing and positive. Troll and creep free. This is why I want the Newsfeed.
Also much harder to navigate in Community. Too much nonsense going on. You can't find where posts are located later unless you bookmark them. It's slow, and more glitchy than the newsfeed in a lot of ways.5 -
I too have been using mfp for years and have made real friends and family.I enjoy the newsfeed, keeping up and in touch.Supporting each other through our fitness journey and life’s curveballs.Mfp is making a Huge mistake.4

I attempted to email several of the addresses given by someone who posted a list.Apparently they didn’t accept my emails.0

I pay an annual fee so that I don’t get ads. I wonder what the benefit to the subscription will be when the feed is gone. Recipes I guess, but I have those at Delish.

This is why I wish there was a Facebook page for mfp users that was accepting new members. 😕. I like finding those ppl that become your fitness journey friends 🙂0

I personally did not care for the News Feed. To me it was just a bunch of clutter. It was so repetitious having to scroll through all the posts that said so and so logged in for so many days in a row or that they had completed their food and exercise diary for the day. There were many people that did post informative information. But you had to scroll through all the nonsense just to find it. And as someone else mentioned, I always felt obligated to like or comment.
I don't think that a lot of members realized that they could change their settings as to what would be automatically posted to the News Feed daily. You could check or uncheck the marks to post what you wanted. And, it was possible to set it up where your food and exercise diary was public or viewable to just to your friends. That way if someone was interested in looking at your diary they could go to your profile and take a look.
It was a nice way to share with others. But the automatic News Feed posts were totally unnecessary. That's an idea. Keep the News Feed but get rid of the automatic posts. That way a person could still post "Hey everyone! I just weighed-in and I lost 10 lbs this month!". Just not automatically and daily.
So I'm willing to wait to see what may be in the future.

I still don't understand what's going on with this. The Activity Feed sounds similar to the News Feed. But are you supposed to type on your Activity box. Or, type on someone else's. Is it private or public? Anyways, it would have been nice if they had posted a tutorial or something. I'm still hopeful. Sometimes it takes a while to work out the bugs.0

There is this explanation:

I can't even see my own wall. I don't think anything I post on others' activity/posts/feed that they can see it either.1

That's weird. I can see your activity feed page, and it looks like I could post on it, too. (I didn't post there, seemed a little rude to do it for no reason.)
Other people have posted on mine, and I can see their posts or reply.
Anyone who wants to post on my activity page to see how it works is welcome to do so. (Just be nice, OK? :flowerforyou:)1 -

Yes, I can comment on others if I go to their page, but I can't see my own (on the app). 🤷🏻♀️
... okay UPDATE: I found your posts on the web version! They aren't on the old profile page. They are on whatever that other page is called that's always existed, but now has the activity feed too.

I can't find the activity feed. I'm so sad over this change. I lost an easy way to stay connected with friends. Bad decision MFP!1

Why would the makers of this site/app sabotage themselves in such a devastating way? Unbelievable!0

@44Janet2017 - On any Community page, click on your avatar photo in the upper right corner area. That will bring up a pop-up page. On that pop-up page, click on your avatar photo there also. That will bring up your Community activity page. Maybe not the only way to get there, but it's one way.
I'm not saying getting there will change anything . . . but that's one way to find it, that's all.0
