Hi, I'm Jill!

I'm 54 and have been married 28 years. I have 2 children-- a son who is 23 and a daughter who is 19. I work full-time selling new construction homes, and I absolutely love it! Yardwork is also one of my favorite things to do...from grass cutting to weed wacking...if I can be outside, I will be playing in the yard.
I've been on MyFitnessPal for a long time and I have my best successes when I log consistently and weigh in every day. My nemesis is random mindless snacking throughout the day. Logging helps me keep things in check.
I look forward to seeing you all in July!
Jill

I just want to let you know that itβs not too late to turn things around.

This is my direction from the beginning of this yearβ¦
This is me from this weekβ¦ Iβve decided to commit to logging my food, getting in 10 minutes of movement each day, and controlling how I react to stress, anxiety, and bored eating.
This isnβt a perfect science, but Iβm not starving myself.
We can do this togetherβ¦ and we donβt have to spend a million dollars. π₯°9 -
Hello I'm Darlene. Retired, 63-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty), back for another month with this supportive group. I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023, and with this group since April 2023. I have lost 83 pounds since the beginning of my journey and working on my last 10 pounds to goal (may change that when I get there). Happy to be back for another month.

Each month I write a reflection on how the prior month went - here is mine from June if you want to read it:June Reflection
June was a great month for weight loss, a slowdown in exercise!
I lost 4.6 pounds this month β even beat my stretch goal! Down 83 pounds from the start of my journey. Even with a trip to Hawaii during the month. I have five pounds to go to get my BMI to the ideal range, and 10 pounds to go to my goal. When I get there, we shall see what I do β I might just go a tiny bit further to say that I hit the 100-pound mark. That would be another 17 pounds from today.
I reached the 1,350-mile marker on my quest to walk 2,024 miles in 2024, logging 135 miles in June β my least number of miles since I started this journey in January 2023. My injury last month turned out to be a meniscus tear and have had to slow down. I got a cortisone shot and feel a little better β but decreased my step goal from 17,000 steps a day to 8,000. Iβm thinking I can move up to 10,000 in July. Although I have slowed down, I am still in the purple (that means I will make it) range. So far have averaged 7.45 miles per day. This tracker is all miles walked β not just intentional. I am also tracking my intentional miles, just to see how I do. To date I have tracked 982.05 intentional miles. This puts me at 48% complete β just below the 50% mark.
I did an experiment with Nutrisystem food in June. I order two weeks of food. Hereβs what I found out:
1. It works - I got over my plateau and continued to lose - lost almost 5 pounds in two weeks. π
2. It was super easy to follow π but, had we had to cook two meals daily - one for me, one for Greg. βΉοΈ
3. The food was edible - not fantastic, not gross π
4. I did not meet my protein goal most days βΉοΈ, but met carb, fat, sodium and fiber goals almost every day π.
5. Most days the calories were about 1,350 - ranging from a little under 1,200 to 1,600. I wasn't hungry. π
6. I usually eat 5 fruits/veggies a day - but switched to 4 veggies one fruit on Nutrisystem. π
7. It's doable as a quick fix, I couldn't do it long term. π
8. Overall - I am extremely happy with the weight loss. So overall score! π
9. π©βπ³ I like to cook!
10.
We took a trip to Hawaii midway through the month. Overall, I am very happy with my dedication on the trip. We did not have access to the fitness center β so my exercise consisted of swimming and walking. I logged everything I ate and drank to the best of my ability. I was over my calorie goal and more importantly my sodium goal every day, but not by huge numbers. I ate breakfast every day, and many lunches as well. I limited my alcohol. Only one day of two drinks, and many with none. I ate only half of my dinner entre β boxing up the rest for breakfast or Gregβs snacks for the future. I gained weight, but within the week home lost it all.
Looking at my June goals, I did well β except never finished The Burning Page. I just couldnβt through it. Will try to find something fun to read for July!

I've logged my weight consistently for 1200+ days. I've been using MFP off and on since 2012. At my highest in 2012, I weighed 198. At my lowest in 2018, 1 weighed 148. My highest so far in 2024 was 190.5 on March 20th. My lowest so far in 2024 was 179.6 on June 21st. I joined this group in May 2024.

My daily goals:
π₯ Drink 6 glasses of water
π§ Stay under my sodium limit
βοΈ Log all my meals and snacks

I went a little over my calorie goal yesterday because lunch eating out. But I gained 1.2 lb overnight, so I think sodium.
Last week, I talked about weighing and measuring everything I eat.βοΈ On further review, I don't think it's going to be sustainable for me. Instead, I dropped my calorie limit from 1570 to 1500, to compensate for portions that I may underestimate. We'll see if that works for July.
My June 2024 recap:
I learned that I can be consistent with getting enough water; it isn't an easy habit yet, but it's a lot more consistent than it was in May, so I'm satisfied with the slow progress.
I also learned that I really gotta watch that salt. I started using Mrs Dash instead, and it has helped. Again not perfectly but there's been progress.
The third thing I learned is that I like pre-planning my meals and snacks and logging everything for the day in the morning. Sometimes plans change and I can be flexible with that. But it does stop me from standing in the pantry and asking myself, "what do I want to eat?"3 -

That whoosh came sooner than expected, yay! Back down to my end of June weight.
TMI warning, delicate subject ahead.
I did discover something else that I'd experimented with, and so far it's proving itself true, at least for me. I'm passing it along in case it would be helpful to anyone else.
Eating an apple a day makes me regular. I can't explain it, and it doesn't matter the size of the apple or the variety. It's a pretty big deal for me personally because I have IBS, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, and assorted food allergies like watermelon and broccoli. So with all that going on, regularity has been extremely frustrating and uncomfortable. But in May and June I had been buying apples (I increased produce overall) and noticed that the next day after I ate an apple, ... there would be results, let's just say. Regular results, not food allergy/intolerance results. Apples were tested in my food allergies testing and I'm not allergic.
It could be the sorbitol or the pectin; both are pretty high in an apple. I usually get pretty good fiber in my diet, but on days I didn't eat an apple, the next day I wouldn't go. Back to having an apple, and voila!
So like I said, it might just be me; but if you struggle with regularity, apples may help you out. Ummm yeah. π

Weight in blue makes me blue because itβs a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because itβs a loss. Weight in black means no change.
07/01-187.0-(Trend Weight 186.6)- I hope to type my weight in pink A LOT more often this month! Good luck to you all this round. Lets be Unstoppable!
07/02-185.4-(Trend Weight 186.3)- Yesterday was a good day and it reflects on the scale this morning. Sometimes it doesnβt show up right away, even with the best efforts so I was grateful to see a better number. Last night the food monster named Mr. Chocolate came out in full force. This time I won. I told myself quite clearly and TRUTHFULLY that another square of my 70% dark cocao chocolate was not going to satisfy me. I would just want more, and then more and then more, more, more, more, more, more. All another square (or two or four) would do is stop me from making any progress this morning on the scale. What it would NOT do is scratch my itch as the cravings NEVER EVER end. I mean, even when Iβm over-full I just want more. After reasoning with myself, I skipped the chocolate. I donβt always win this battle but last night I did. Letβs hope for more nights like that. I want to type in pink way more often in July. June was mainly black and blue and I'm feeling very bruised over it.

Hi everyone. Iβve started this month badly. I donβt know why itβs so hard to stick to my goals - I want to eat 1540 calories but always end up eating 1700 - 2000. Iβm always hungry too. I donβt want to accept being fat - I really hate how I look. My mum is really big too and canβt move much due to arthritis- Iβm lucky I can be active at least but unless my eating habits change I wonβt lose weight. I want to at least get under 3 figures.

I'm Jen, 40 years old from Florida, married, retired mom with 3 kids, 4 dogs, and chickens.
Recommitting to weight loss, and just setting a daily track food & steps goal (good or bad) for now. Trying to limit fast food, and up my activity level (have lots of house cleaning to do and yard work to catch up on, now that i'm not sitting in front of a computer for 10+ hours per day...)
SW: 285
CW (6/30): 251.8
7/1: 250.8 - was very active yesterday, mostly shopping and playing with the kiddies. 4,056 steps & way over calories for today (had fast food for all 3 meals.. yikes) ... will definitely show up on the scale over the next day or two...
7/2: 250 - I'll take it! Did yoga today at the library with our 5 year old. Also did some reading while she was on the playground. I felt a little guilty for not getting more steps in while she played, but it was soo nice. 4,529 steps, and within calories for today. Also NO FAST FOOD today, I didn't cook but had lots of fruit during day and a home-made sandwich

Happy to be back for another month.

βοΈ Lose 2% of body weight - Stretch Goal 4 pounds
My July Goals
β’ Lose 4 pounds (always my goal), but be happy with a 2% loss for the month
β’ Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
β’ Follow Doctorβs orders β go to Physical Therapy

July 1 144.3 π π£ π π₯ π« π¦ π§ME! Happy with the weight loss. I'm sick. Head stuff, ears clogged. Hoping it doesn't last long. I did manage to get my monthly budget completed yesterday. June was a disasterous month - have to curb our spending for the next few months to make up for our trip to Hawaii!
July 2 145.2 π£ π πͺπ§ββοΈ π¦ π§ME! Have to lower my step goal. Had doctor appointment yesterday - no walking for two weeks. Knee isn't healing like it should. Probably over did it in Hawaii. Looks like seated cardio - or get my butt to the lake for a swim instead of walking. But I just love my morning walks with Monty. Still feeling crummy - sore throat, stuffy ears. Also feeling sorry for myself - had little binge yesterday and was over my calorie limit - not by a lot - but over.
July 3 144.5 π£ π π₯ π« π¦ π§ME! Just a small cardio workout yesterday. Spent the day cleaning the house. We have been focusing on the outside and the garden that I neglected the inside. It felt great to get it done. I love a clean house. Going to the doctor today for this sinus thing I have. I can't hear at all out of one ear, and now I have pink eye in both eyes! Guess it's time for some meds.

This is the month that Iβll get to 200 pounds. I can feel it!

I overslept this morning; I must've needed it, because I didn't feel my watch alarm go off at all - nor the buzz every 10 minutes after that. I feel pretty good though, and I don't work until this afternoon, so it was worth it.
Yesterday was spent on de-stashing craft supplies. I needed to tackle my bead stash, and finish some partially completed earring projects. It's been years since all this stuff was sorted. I have about 15 bead boxes full. I'm not finished but it's about 80% cleaned up. I will probably donate beads that I don't want to granddaughters at the end of this month. I learned from painful experience to put the different bead types into tiny ziplock baggies and then stack those baggies on their edge in the little divider sections in the bead boxes. I've had times over the years where I would accidentally knock over an open bead box, and a thousand little beads would scatter all over the floor. Miyuki seed beads, or 3mm sterling silver daisy spacer beads, strewn across the carpet is a somewhat expensive disaster.2 -

I am making July's goal with caution. We have multiple parties to attend throughout the month. I had 3 this past week and by making wise choices, sticking to serving sizes, and keeping up my exercise program, I was able to enjoy many deserts and rich foods, and still lose 1.5 lbs. And to my surprise it didn't trigger a binge, this was my first time eating sweets since 1/31/24, I was so nervous with the first bite, but it all worked out ok. This month will be a huge test. I have a good support system in place and am re-training my brain in regards to food. Wish me luck π€
