Went to Aldi's near me today and stocked up on quite a few items. I think you have to know prices quite well to make sure what you are buying is a good buy.
In the 90's every day here for a week. But, we did get a much needed rain storm last evening.
I watch the news! Try to hear both sides. But, hate the ads.

There is nothing "good" or "bad" about following the news or reading about snakes or rats. What is "good" or "bad" is how I react. I can choose to not watch or read about or talk about things that result in my being angry, stressed, nauseated, afraid, etc. In most cases I can decide what to watch or read.
We, too, are having a heat wave with heat advisories. Happily we woke up early (4:30) so I was able to get out early for a long walk with Annie followed by an hour of puttering in the yard. We'll go out for short times in the yard later in the day but not long enough to be dangerous and no more yard work until tomorrow.
One of the best investments we made in a creature comfort purchase was adding a heat pump to our furnace replacement when we bought our house in 2011. We were fortunate to get a loan with 0% interest if we paid it off in three years, which we did, We tightened our budget belt in order to have years of comfort. We keep the thermostat at 73 during the day and 70 at night and it keeps us comfortable.
We placed our weekly grocery order last night. We'll pick it up at 8 tomorrow morning. I was sure to include plenty of stuff that doesn't require chewing so I won't go hungry after my wisdom tooth extraction on Tuesday.

Hi Ladies. May I jpin your group? I am looking for motivation to kickstart my health again.
A little background. The last 5 years we have literally been in survival mode. It's been a rollercoaster ride of very high, highs & very low lows.
Short version Hubby was diagnosed with CLL Leukemia in 2019 a couple of months after his Dad passed away but then we rode the coaster of happy emotions as our son and his high school sweetheart got married then COVID came & went. We were able to protect my hubby and my 90 year old Daddy from it & so far no one in our family has had it, my Dad had a pipe burst and we had to deal with hiring a plumber & a restoration company for ripping all the carpet & making the repairs hubby wasn't up to. He still did a ton of work there. By this time we were used to "living with cancer" He gets bloodwork every 3 months and until last November was doing great. Will get to that in a minute. My Dad also had an accident, ran into the neighbors house and had temporary dementia for a week, this was one month before Hurricane Ida destroyed our house with us in it. It was all good. No one got hurt and our house is practically brand new now. Daddy didn't get hurt in the car accident either. My childhood dream of having a baby grand piano came true! My upright piano I'd had since I was 7 was damaged in the storm. Our kids have found their own lives & are settling into adulthood. Hubby's CLL flared up in Nov. & up until last week for the past 9 weeks we were driving to Houston every week for treatment at MD Anderson. Happy to report it's working & he's graduated to monthly trips now.
Soooo now we can start getting our lives back. We've been home a year now since the Hurricane. We are still working on interior finishing like backsplash and baseboards. etc. And yes this is the short version.
I was a lifetime WW member and I used to go to the gym. I still work full time and with trying to juggle trips to Houston, working & taking care of my Daddy it's still a lot.
So I was hoping you folks could be my cheerleaders as I hop back on the weight loss train to get my life/health back. Like the folks in the WW mtgs.
Due to all our recent adventures I now have high bloid pressure & high cholesterol which I know could be helped by losing about 30 to 50 pounds.
I don't have the motivation or energy I had before all this happened. I have been gardening and hubby & I do a Yoga DVD each morning.
So there ya have it our #1 country song Lol. Seriously though we have been so blessed on this journey. If I started down that road we'd be here all day. So many people have helped us get this far!
So I'm looking to reset my mindset, get my booty moving and start rebuilding me.
It's going to take baby steps. Maybe micro steps because we are still in a time crunch to get it all in. But. things are starting to feel a little more normal so I think I'm ready to regroup & get out of survival mode.
Ok to join your group?

Hello to all and welcome to the new ladies!
Yes, we here in Southern California are hot too, but not nearly cooking like the rest of you (I’m about 20 miles from the border). I think it was in the low 90s the other day, but since we have limited humidity, it’s bearable. We just open up the house and haven’t had the AC on yet, though our neighbors have. We get a nice breeze off the canyon, so are tolerating it.
The mister is essentially planted on the sofa this month with 2 soccer tournaments. It will get better next week as they get closer to finals.
We were hoping to go to Madagascar this year, but it got cancelled. Trying to decide where now.
Not much to tell. Just hanging in until our guests arrive again next month. They will be here for 3 weeks. They had such a good time last year, they decided to come back again. I guess we need to be less welcoming hosts. I’ll do a lot differently this time. I love them, but three extra people for that long is a lot.

Hello, my chickens,
Tracey - No, nothing scheduled to see Kelsey or any of the grands. 😔 I have a faint hope that she might drive up while she's in San Antonio for a couple weeks later this summer, but it's more than eight hours' drive and she has to get a special pass to be more than 50 miles from the school.
In my last post, I probably should have said more clearly that I don't believe that news, in and of itself, is bad for EVERYone. I was allowing it to upset me emotionally and mentally, which was inevitably impacting my physical issues, and literally making me ill.
I'm not proud of that, but not ashamed of it either. It's kind of a shrug, and definitely an easy fix - simply separate myself from that flood of information. Anyone who can and wants to be part of it certainly has that choice, without any reproach from me. I just have to be realistic about my own reactions.
The house smells wonderful--Corey is roasting tomatoes, onions, garlic and carrots for his next batch of marinara--I need to slide out and get some basil later to add to his final version. That's as stressful as it gets today around my house. In other words, not at all.
Later y'all,
Love, Lisa8 -

I have such a hard time listening to podcasts. My mind tends to wander too much.
Debbie - I think I’m going to put something up in there permanently. I wish they were electric though, the batteries die pretty quick.

Ours are electric- think they are the USB type- you can change the settings on them too.
I just looked them up- the ones with a remote run from $6 and up- most are about $10.

Carlakringuette, absolutely okay for you to join our group! This is a fast moving thread and we are a chatty bunch, please don’t feel the need to comment on everything, just jump into any conversation that strikes you. Also please sign each post with a name and location so we can get to know you. The name doesn’t have to be yours and the location can be as specific or general as you are comfortable with. You certainly do have a lot on your plate but sounds like you are handling it admirably! This is a very supportive group and we do chat about way more than weight related issues, it’s all connected, right?
Barbara, I was not aware of any earthquakes in our area! The only one that I’ve felt since moving into this house was actually heard, not felt. We are on the side of a mountain so all rock underneath us. The earthquake sounded like a large truck hitting the side of our house, which if you saw our house you would know is impossible! There is no road on that side, only 20 or so acres of forest, lol. But it was an experience!
I have been reading but not replying or even taking notes….. but there are a few things I did want to comment on.
Heather, your recovery is truly sparing and it fills me with joy seeing and reading about your progress and the joy you are experiencing!
Lisa, so glad that Corey decided that throwing some money at the tree was the right thing to do!
Tracey the fairy lights in the bathroom are lovely!
Hubby comes to bed long after I’m asleep so uses a small flashlight to negotiate his way. If I wake up and it’s still dark I feel my way to the bathroom. It’s quite easy, hand along the foot of the bed, when I reach the end the hand goes out to touch the wall, over two steps to the doorway, then hand on the counter til I reach the end and then I’m at the toilet. As long as I’ve got one hand on a stationary object (bed, wall, counter etc) I’m good. I usually sleep thru the darkest part of the night, especially this time of year, and we do get enough morning sunlight by about 4 am to be able to see. Please note, I’m only up long enough to use the facilities at that time of day, lol!!
That’s it for now, off to the gym for me! Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the new gals!

stayed home from going to MIL's to walk her dog today- Instead, got caught up on the dishes. Had to get them done and put away for the next big, WET, chore on my list. Gave the kittens yet another flea bath. The flea treatment drops did NOTHING- just requested a refund from Amazon- Third bath since we brought them in. Second one of doing it totally by myself. First one son and his girlfriend helped with one kitten but got scratched up so I did the rest. I used Dawn dish soap this time- see if that works better than the flea shampoo or the flea drops. They are all sleeping now. I am sure they feel a lot better.
Planned on working in the garden- need to get my cucumbers and tomatoes tied up- bought a little contraption that is supposed to be simple to do that but I haven't figured out how to use it- Think I can do it by hand faster than using that thing- I will watch the how-to video yet again and see if I can figure it out.
Dh wants me to go with him to Tractor Supply and Walmart- needs things for his mom(she needs dog food from TS and a new fan from W beings she broke yet another one. Always something with her.
Aqua Zumba was wonderful last night- got there a bit early and they let us stay after. It was "Free swim" and all the kids got to get in the pool so we didn't stay too long but was nice to be able to. If it was as hot as it was Tuesday, we would have stayed longer I think. Going to miss it when it ends end of Aug.

Tracey - you commented a week or two ago about how expensive CGM (continuous glucose monitors) were in Canada.
I ran across this fella, who lives in Toronto. Diabetes Type 2 runs in his family and he decided to start testing the reaction of a LOT of different foods with a CGM. Pretty interesting.

2 beets
3 pickled asparagus spears
Some clover sprouts (my new addiction)
1/2 a large tomato
(I didn't take a photo, no food P0rn for you today ladies)

Haven’t posted in a while. Pool has been around 90. Not very refreshing. Usually went for a walk after dinner
kylia – I can’t wait till I can get a new CPAP and get one that uses cellular
Welcome everyone new
Rebecca – I get the feeling. PJ has not once been to our house and he’s 5 years old. Then again, he’s only been to PA, DE, NJ, and MD. I know that now I regret some of the decisions I made in my youth, and I’m sure our kids will, too. To me, a busy life isn’t really a good excuse not to visit. When my kids were little, we would make a 2 DAY trip every year for a week to visit Vince’s parents. That meant 3 overnight bags (in addition to ours), different clothes etc. But to me, it was worth it. To this day, Jess has a special bond with MIL even tho she’s passed. I didn’t get a call from Denise for this Mother’s Day. I never get a card, I don’t even expect it.
Got a bag of corn today and another dozen. I suspect they might have overcharged me. I’ll maybe ask him next year. Cooked it. Vince is at the lady’s house that he’s helping. Seems some people are interested in the speakers she has from her brother but she was hesitant to have someone come to the house so Vince said that he’d be there when they were there.
Heather – I was just thinking that you haven’t mentioned the spinach feta pie in a while. Glad to see you’re back to it. The store stopped carrying the shirataki noodles but now carry something like it called Miracle Noodle. It’s shelf stable, maybe that’s why
Quiet 4th. Vince was concerned that the kitties would be bothered by the fireworks but that didn’t happen
Got the orthotics that are supposed to help with that callous. Really, I don’t feel a difference. I did put one of those Dr. Schols callous removers on so we shall see if that helps at least some
A friend of mine had an injury to her leg almost a year ago and she can’t get the leg wet. What she does is uses the shower wipes.
Annie – at least now you have a definite diagnosis for your dad. I totally agree with others, don’t mention the fee
We’re going to have a ceramic pool get together next weekend. Just a few of us. I’m thinking we’ll have hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork (because I have bbq sauce that Vince isn’t crazy about that I want to use up), I’ll probably be able to get a key lime pie from the soup kitchen and maybe get some rice krispie bars. One of the gals is a vegetarian. I was going to have a vege burger for me, so now I don’t feel so bad.
Lately when I go for my walk in the evening, I wear my bathing suit, work shorts and a top. Then I go in the pool with the idea being that I’d cool off. Only lately that hasn’t happened (pool is 90)
Allie – good news for Tracey that she can see her regular OB
Barbara – yea for showers. These are the protein bars https://www.bing.com/search?FORM=U079DF&PC=U079&q=/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=39JKLUSMK2DFK&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.nK3Dho38VGZ9nNDmLs4od3qvBO6ZhEk The vanilla dream, I think the calorie count is different for the different flavors
M – yea for no headaches. Glad you got it figured out
Lanette – there’s a lady in our neighborhood who always walks with weights. Many times I’ve gone shopping and laugh to her “see, I’ve got my weights (groceries)”. Oh, I’d be in the water with Yogi, too.
Went to Sam’s for salmon on the 3rd. The line!!! There was no way on this green earth I was going to stand in that line. So I went finally on the 5th. I was the only one at the checkout. Surprising...not
The carpeting in the rooms where the kitties are right now is looking pretty bad, especially since Yoda had a problem with vomiting. We did take him to the vet and what happened is that we changed to the clumping litter and he ate some of it. So that was in his intestines. So we gave him a laxative and he passed it. Now, hopefully, when the kitties have run of the house, we can put down hardwood flooring. If Lisa and Corey can do it, I’m sure Vince and I can
Margaret – Keep meaning to mention how very informative I find your posts
Fell into the “well, I blew it for today, so what the heck” mindset. No more
Started to take my walk and it started to rain. It got heavier and heavier so I cut it short. At first I was going to come home and get an umbrella but it’s raining so hard now that I’m glad I didn’t. Just won’t get my steps in today, but that’s life.
Rita – that festival looks neat
Having a problem with our oven. Well, it IS about 17 years old. The top element stays on so everything gets burned. Well, at least I can use the stovetop and the microwave. Waiting for a repairman to come and give us an estimate. But with the holiday it's taken longer
Ordered some shorts from JCPenney. they should have been in yesterday. I'm thinking that they're in but they didn't give me a call to come pick them up. If I don't hear from them by Mon, I'll give them a call
Regarding news: I depend on Vince to give me the highlights
Carla – we’d love to have you. Boy, I am so sorry about all that you’ve gone thru. You will find so many women here who have been where you are
Picked up my Tigger from ceramics the other night
Well, going to play mahjongg with the kitties. You have no idea how much they like it!!!! And the help!

Heather - I listened to Food for Thought, very interesting. It’s very much what Rita, Margaret and others have been saying on here.
The Guardian is a news outlet that keeps publishing news about glysophates in New Brunswick. Canadian news is shut down when they try to talk about it.
Machka - those exercises are ones that my exercise therapist gave me to do to help my hips.
I hope you’re done soon, you need a break
Let me state that I really am an ostrich when it comes to the news but I’ve been wondering if that’s the right way to be. I’ll put this in a spoiler:I follow a lady in NB that is one of the now over 300 patients suffering from a mystery neurological disease. She posted a thing the other day that said something to the affect of, if we choose to not to follow or keep informed of the news around us we don’t know to speak up when we see something wrong. I too am an ostrich when it comes to news, but I think it’s the big headline news that I find so infuriating, it’s the little news things that are more “hidden” that interest me. Not conspiracy type stuff, but little things that make you shake your head and say, “that shouldn’t or should happen”.
I hope Kelsey is able to make a trip. Can she tack a few days vacation onto her stay so she has more leeway?
Debbie - I’m going to have to buy some of those. One of the things I find very frustrating is the batteries required for these.
Our place is never pitch black. Our neighbour has a light outside all night. I just have valances on my kitchen windows so that lights up enough to see. We have lights outside that shine in the hall window as well.
In the Winter I have a couple of night lights, but like Evelyn at this time of year it’s really only dark dark around midnight to 3 am or so.
Barbie - pretty view!
Rebecca - I enjoy the pictures of your foods. I don’t normally comment because I am too fussy to be as adventurous as you, it sure is pretty though.
Most of you are much more adventurous than me, I would be joining Allie for McDonalds.
I went with Lauryn to pick Michaela up from camp today. It’s a 2 hour drive each way. It was a nice drive though. Michaela had her hair down when we arrived, she normally has it in braids or a ponytail. I didn’t recognize her at first.
We stopped at a yard sale on the way home. She bought two purses, 2 comics and a stuffie. She has learned the colour cyan, the stuffie is a narwhal that is reversible sequins. She was excited because it was purple and cyan.
Here she is reading her comic book when she got home.
I am tired tonight, I had a nap in my bath lol.

Today I actually had "appetite correction" happen. I had my salad. Then a bit later I had some leftover sticky rice, some chicken from my roasted chicken I buy at the commissary, along with a steamer bag of veggies. Oh and some La Choy crunchy noodles in there as well as some raw cashews. Well everything fit in my ramen bowl and I mixed it with a splash of heated up chicken stock. I ate about 5 bites and I was like "uugh, I'm full". So its in the fridge for tomorrow. I ate a slice of cheese and an Atkins chai protein shake in a little carton at about 5 pm. Its really yummy for days like today, when I didn't get in as much protein as I should. After I sipped the chai I closed my eating window (in other words started fasting again).
