Moving house with a person with severe traumatic brain injury isn't necessarily like a "normal" move. We opted to take it slow. We had 4.5 months from when we took possession of the house until we had to be out of our rental, and will take the whole of those 4.5 months to complete the move.
With a severe traumatic brain injury, processing time is very slow. So we do one step at a time, and let things process, then do the next step.
So there won't be one big move day, like many/most people do. Instead, there are many, many small move days.
I have taken long weekends (5 days) twice now ... once to do the painting and now this weekend to do a little extra push. Then we'll resume the little bits here and there.
Although it's a bit tiring, it's also keeping us both sane.

Today’s gratitude: no apparent issues from dropping iPhone into the water bowl.
Actually did the planned shoulder PT and BB&B combo this morning, yay me. Skipped dog group for a BBQ/Dance at the Elks. Fun time though the music was too loud and the portions too huge!
Yes, Carol, we’re able to use SOME water, but it still isn’t potable. Joe checked the tanks and said they had enough for me to water some plants this morning. After that, he pumped some more from the stream to the cistern and from the cistern to replenish the tanks. One of us can shower, OR I can water some plants, OR I can do a load of laundry… . I’m thankful the stream is running well. We won’t likely see rain again until October or November. I’m weary of having to rinse dishes and vegetables with store bought water.
Pip your oh-dark-thirty bike rides, Inspiring!
Machka thanks for the stretches meme. I got down on the floor for the first time in months this morning, will try again tonight. Want to be able to get down on the floor in Better Bones and Balance class next week So sorry about your hand.
Tracey, your insight to Annie about the smell, would never have thought of that. Brava for researching placement agencies and applying for jobs.
Lanette thanks for the Dr. Bickman links. Just listened to the first 15 minutes of one and it just confirms my suspicions about my insulin resistance. Now to listen to how to fix!
Terri I’ve been wondering where the great statesmen were… [sigh]
Welcome @carlakringuette ! What a five years! You are a real survivor. Here you’ll find support, ideas, information, and most of all shoulders to cry on and ears to listen when you need to vent or process.
Evelyn glad no ill effects, it was quite a cluster of quakes. I get email notifications from USGS on quakes in the northwest and my inbox was full of them. I’ve never heard an earthquake that sounded like a large truck hitting the house, but in ’89? Loma Prieta sounded like a freight train running through our 5th floor offices. Finding my way to the bathroom in the dark would not be safe. Too many dogs and dog toys to trip over.
Barbie what a lovely, relaxing view!
Debbie every time you mention Aqua Zumba it makes me smile.
Michele, sorry that link took me to some baby wipes. Are the vanilla dream protein bars made by “Genius Gourmet”? Tigger.
Rebecca Oh that Eli. Giving Athena some cuteness competition!
Well, hallelujah. While sitting here the temperature has dropped from 100 to 85 and the evening ocean breeze is making all well. Like Kim, we have no A/C, and depend on the marine layer to keep us comfortable.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Sue's visit has been a great success. She is a lovely guest.
They both went over to my son's house , and enjoyed watching England win their quarter-final. There were half-time snacks of sausage buns, and lots of chocolate that John had bought.
They came home to Tandoori Chicken, that I had made, with lots of salad and yoghurt, so it all worked out fine. Sue had brought homemade profiteroles, so we had two each for lunch and two after dinner.
I ate my Tandoori earlier, because I can't wait to eat late, but I sat with them at the table and had a glass of red wine.
Earlier, John had taken Sue up to our wine merchant, and she selected two bottles for her delayed birthday present. I showed her some white, ribbed, ceramic vases I had seen on Amazon, and she picked out one she loved for her present from me. It will arrive at her house tomorrow! She has a garden full of flowers.
Of course Edie was delighted to have someone else to quiz about John's complicated family history and got down to it at half-time when John was playing table tennis with Bea.
They are both coming over this afternoon to have an Art session.

Just a quick pop in this morning. We are going a celebration lunch at elder daughter’s for youngest grandson’s 21st birthday.
Our shower is out of commission as DH is regrouting the tiles.
Rebecca: Your food choices are always interesting. I like your appetite correction. I think I need more of that in my life.
Michele: 💗 Tigger.

Barbara – sorry the link took you to wipes. Yes, they are by Genius Gourmet
Lately, my throat has been “scratchy”. I’ve been having a lot of pops (frozen yogurt and orange juice.) Like now I’m awake so I can have a pop

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Machka sorry to hear about your hand and shoulder. Seems like moving always results in some kind of injury. So much lifting!
Carla in TX welcome! You have had a wild ride! Jump in whenever you feel like it, but we do avoid religion and politics. It keeps things friendly.
Michele Love that Tigger!
Barbara so glad your phone is okay!
Hmm. Dad has church this morning, but he didn't get up yet. I better watch that.
Have a great day, my friends! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Good morning all you lovely ladies. I'm sittimg here watching tje sunrise. Feeling happy & content. Things are getting back to "normal" around here and it feels great.
You see when we lost our house to the Hurricane our church & libray was flooded too. The whole town was a mess. Yesterday we had our first potluck in 2 years. It was awesome Lots of food to navigate. naturally. Didn't do too bad cuz it was so hot.
Hubby grilled BBQ chicken right before. That was our contribution. Lots of laughter during the trivia games. Fun times.
Gettimg ready to do our yoga then we're off to church then scoop up Daddy for lunch with my guys (Daddy & Hubby) We will probably let PawPaw aka Daddy "cook" which means fish poboys. I'll pass on the onion rings and will swap my Dr Pepper addiction for a water
Hubby has to drink 68 oz of water & for awhile I was keeping up with him but the Dr Peppers have sliped back in. To counter that I'll put just a splash of fruit juice (grape. pinespple or apple) in sparkling water & pretemd it's a soft drink.
Have to finish our menu for the week and make a grocery run.
Ot's so mice to be back in our routine again.
It's so hot & humid. I can gatden real early or in spurts of 15 -30 minutes or wait til 8:30 pm. Still too hot & humid for our walks.
Looking forward to some gardening for exercise, piano for stress relief & I might even get to read my book today.
Ya'll are a lively group. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
Anyone else from southern USA?!

Hi Carla,
I'm Canadian-Australian, but my brother and his family live in Louisiana.
We've been down to see them once. Unfortunately we haven't been able to travel for a while. He and his kids evacuated to Houston a few years ago when a hurricane came through. They're scary!

Hello, my chicks,
Another quiet day in the offing? Probably. I'm OK with it. I took two naps yesterday, sent Corey off to the grocery store and read an entire book. He was in and out of his chair all day, picking tomatoes and carrots, roasting, cooking and canning and reading his book in between. I... was not. Then I still slept nearly 7 hours last night.
Funny - so many people yearn for this kind of life, and I have had such a hard time just getting here, protesting the whole way. Ah well. Apparently you must have a quiet heart and mind to have a quiet life, and I am closer right now to having those things than I've ever been.
My husband and a few very good friends have told me that I've changed in the last few years--I know that some of it came out of stepping away from work four years ago, and more came out of getting sick. I like knowing that something of lasting benefit may come from years of adversity besides just moving this uncurable illness to stillness.
As an aside, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to call Crohn's subsiding as "going into remission." It smacks far too much of competing with cancer for severity, when that's not true at all. Anyway...
Welcome to those who are new to the thread - we're glad you're here. There is support a-plenty. Speaking of which:
Rebecca: Hard for me to comment on your sandwich, as it's so far away from my eating patterns, but it's super easy to comment on the grands! The pictures of Eli and Athena are so wonderful. He's growing so fast, and I hope they're having enormous fun together. Our siblings are so important as we grow and later, as we age. So pleased to see you logging again, too. It's such a key for us to know what's going in our bodies.
Annie: Thank you for your comment on my getting better. Still much thought and many hugs wrapped around you as you deal with life as a caretaker for your dad.
Carla in Louisiana: I'm so glad you were able to find your way back to us! Your life has been in a whirl for a long time, and a steady hand extended from a group like this one can be a keystone to building the healthier life you're trying to find. No recipes from me, I'm afraid. My husband's the cook--I'm just the sous chef! I was raised in Deep East Texas, about an hour and a half from Shreveport, so not quite your neck of the woods, but close!
Heather: So pleased to see that things went well with Sue.
Corey's just up and around here just past 7 a.m., so I'll ferry a few cups of coffee to him the next few hours. Got one load of laundry going, but other than that, time to dive back in to another book, or go work on the quilt. Hope it's a peaceful Sunday for all, whether past, present or future.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Lanette I do not log my food...I added up the plant foods in my breakfast it was 11 plants including spices and herbs. It would take too long to list all of these. My goal is to have at least 5-7 plants, spices herbs, a fermented food, and a good protein in my three meals a day. No wheat, corn, or soy if at all possible.
I am on a plateau of 162 pounds. Which puts me for my height at 25 BMI. Blood pressure now normal, gum disease improved, and no sinus infection.
I gradually went on this diet and did at first use gluten free baked goods. I no longer buy these. I will occasionally make pancakes out of almond or coconut flour. If I notice a food disagrees with me I eliminate it and try to reintroduce it slowly. One tbsp to start.
(((Carla))) Take time when you can to take care of you...Your plate is beyond full.
In many of the talks I have listened to stress affects the gut. Making it harder to lose the weight you are trying to lose. Tools are to live mindfully and take time to meditate and or deep breathe.
With a change in diet and a life with so much less stress my belly fat is much less. Saying No even to fun things if too stressful (Like friend going to New York to see the fashion history exhibit and going to the Twins Game on the fourth of July) has worked for me.

Gorgeous sunset at the new house tonight.
And fortunately, we didn't have to move anything too heavy today. Yesterday was a heavy day and I woke up stiff and sore all over today.
Quite often we unpack a bit when we're at the house. Yesterday (and a few other Saturdays) we had pizza for dinner there because we like the stove better than the stove we've had for the past 10 years, and I unpacked some clothing.
But it's amazing how much stuff we've collected in 10 years!
It's also amazing how much dust and cat fur there is in behind the furniture! I know I have vacuumed back there, but not frequently. I'm taking allergy meds every day that I do packing and shifting of furniture.

Art this afternoon with the girls. I managed to complete my painting.
Sue is coming back in August with a lasagne to help look after me.

Burger in yesterday’s dinner was stew meat DH bought and ground up, so very lean burger (bigger serving than usual but I only ate 1/2). Salad with no dressing, chopped up leftover jalapeño popper that I put on baked potato with butter, slice of provolone. Plum for afternoon snack. Breakfast was a sausage biscuit (homemade by DH) with 1/2 banana. Supper was just a snack: a biscuit topped with peaches and cool whip. 22 calories left for the day.

Didn't sleep well ..
Its hot and muggy today here. So we are staying in.

So Im still thinking about it.. I need to keep my protein up to at least 40 a day.

Heather I love the shifting perspectives in that painting! You have excelled at so many styles!
Lisa thank you. I'm doing the best I can for my dad, but it's not perfect. One of the next things is a party for his 90th birthday. I hate entertaining, but I can do this much. My sister will be here so that's a big help.
And there's his car paperwork. And I still need to update his beneficiaries. I'm doing okay at the daily stuff but I need to push on the projects.
And I need to call the doctor about trying a medication memantine. At first we thought the meds were pointless, but it might give him an extra six months at home.
And I need to get Teddy to the vet and me to the doctor. Always more to be done.
