Vickie: Around 2005 we drove from Middle GA to Daytona for the Nascar Pepsi 600. My son was into Jeff Gordan...was he number 24...anyway there was a long rain delay and the race ended after midnight. The traffic control police had gone off duty. We were parked with many others in a residential neighborhood. It took several hours to get out of the neighborhood. Then we had booked a Marriott about an hour north of Daytona. We never thought to call to tell them we would be arriving late. We got there in the middle of the night and they had given the room away. We checked around but everything was booked. We slept in the car in the Marriott parking lot. Early in the morning Marriott fixed a room for us when they had one available. We slept all day, except my son had slept all night through all of this and was wide awake watching tv throughout the day. We stayed a second night at this Marriott we were so tired. I must say we were not charged for either night. My husband never complained. He must been exhausted.

When first hubby got married, we stayed a bit longer than we should have at the reception, I think we were helping clean up. We had a 2 1/2 hr drive to the hotel in Fort Bragg were we were staying our wedding night(gift from a friend). We got up there, and no one was there at the desk and the place was locked. Hubby was not thrilled, he was very ready for our first night together
We ended up driving back a half hour to the family cabin near Navaro and breaking in the back door-just had to hip bump it and it popped open, didn't ruin the lock or door. It was cold in the cabin but we warmed it up. We still joke about that. Such a great memory.
A few days later we were driving his little Toyota, pulling a small UHaul of my stuff back across country to Mobile,Al where he was stationed.
One night we slept in the back of the little Toyota Corola lift back in the parking lot of the Grand Canyon. Not to bad for me at 4'10 but a bit hard for him at 6'2"-

I survived the dreaded wisdom tooth extraction this morning. I didn't eat or drink for 12 hours, got up early to walk he dogs for 90 minutes before coming home and taking pre-surgery meds. My friend picked me up and drove me to the oral surgeon where she came in and got directions from them. It was over in less than an hour and other than some pre op chatter among the staff preparing me, I remember nothing My friend walked me to her car and help onto me since I was so unsteady; I am still a little goofy and unsteady on my feet. No pain meds yet, but I am prepared with acetaminophen and ibuprofen and some stronger stuff from the pharmacy. I have been able to eat my Isagenix shake and a bowl of yogurt and jelly. Thank you to all of you for your encouragement. Jake has been very helpful.
Carol, I am thinking good thoughts for you and your upcoming knee replacement surgery. There were many people in my line dance class with knee replacements who danced with abandon and also hiked and rode bikes. I wish the same great results for you.
Heather, many good thoughts to you and you head toward your other hip replacement.

Today I needed eggs, toast and hash hrowns. Woke up thinking about it! Was able to manage a feast, yet my numbers were fairly good. I am amazed that I only ate 4 grams of sugar when My fitness pal allotted me 60. Stayed under my salt intake but was just a bit over in carbs, fat and calories. On the good side my peace sign is great.

Hi
Reading, trying to catch up. More later, but for my kitten people.......
Kittens got their first shots today and I know the vet said they might be sleepy.....which is true, they basically haven't moved much since came home. But Tori keeps crying when she moves her leg or it is touched. Is this normal? I hope they feel better tomorrow......
Thank you!

Today’s gratitude: Joe spoke with our neighbor today. Parts ordered. Soon as helpers are done with current job, will install control box, move and connect tank and “talk about” sanitization system. Hopeful, but I am so very weary of rinsing dishes and vegetables with store bought water… and I think Joe has been sneaking some state park water into the cooler. It tastes sooo metallic [grumpy].

Lisa what you said about friends to take the emotional load for each other and the intense thoughts we don’t want to share with our husbands. My BFF was a tall blonde lady in California and I miss her muchly. All the wise gals on this thread help lighten the load.
Margaret thank you so very much for the pest preventative recipe. Do you use any kind of carrier oil or medium?
Beth, no memory, kept list of bdays as they came up. Just have to remember to look at it
Rosemarie love hearing about your yoga retreat, and your peaceful morning times on your deck. Are there back roads you can take to Asheville?
Rita the hairy Highland “coo” is my favorite too!
Rebecca that Menucha retreat center looks very appealing. Do you whistle with vibrato too? ;}
Barbie glad to hear you remember nothing from the extraction. That’s what I’d want too!
Debbie liked hearing about your Ft. Bragg/Navarro first honeymoon. I slept in the back of my ’76 Toyota Corolla liftback SR5 with my two dogs, when my solo camping trip got snowed out and the Kennedy Meadows lodge didn’t take credit cards. Since then, I’ve always kept a check in my wallet. ;}
Kylia sleepy/lethargic, yes, normal. Crying when her leg is touched or moved? I’d call the vet and ask, especially if that was the leg that got the shot.
No PT or wii games today. Instead, invested two hours in the side yard, clearing the way in case they come to roll the tank in close to the pump room. I’m bushed ;}

Margaret - I can’t imagine 30 years in one place. This place is tied with the longest place we’ve lived so 8 years in October. We sold and got rid of so much when we moved here. This place is small and I’m very careful with decluttering and not bringing stuff in. Except craft supplies. I need to curb that.
Mcmillionail - I should buy some lanterns. We have never had a power outage here before. I do have an old oil lamp but I should buy some oil for it. It was my grandmother’s, she bought it in the 40’s there is an entry in her diary about purchasing it. I also have a curling iron from the 1800’s that you use the lamp to heat. she used it the first time I had my hair curled.
Barbara - I bet if you keep going to that class you’ll be getting up from any position before long.
Heather - I hope you enjoyed your scotch eggs.
Annie - I think men are more unwilling to change when their spouse passes than women. Women, I swear, see things differently than men to him it’s a comfort and with his Alzheimer’s probably easier on him to leave things as they are for the time being.
Lanette - our local grocery store is suffering with bare shelves because they distributor had a cyber security attack last week. They had to shut their whole ordering system down.
I swear. I think we’re better off with paper, pen and faxes some days
Lisa - I agree about the donations. I have actually started donating to the family since my Dad died. All of those expenses add up so fast. My brother actually had posted in Dad in lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate to Kathryn (mom) to help cover funeral costs. We had all but $300 covered that Harley, Mom and I split. My dad had no insurance or savings.
I bought a package of the footie style compression socks. They don’t seem to hurt my ankles, but it fairness I also don’t seem to wear them a lot.
Rodger and I have been friends but everyone knows that Cheryle is my best friend. I can tell her absolutely anything and know it will stay with her. I’m blessed because her husband and Rodger get along too.
Rosemarie - my DH’s favourite driver was Jeff Gordon in the 24 car. He got to see him race in Pokono one year. We also saw practice at Daytona one year.
I think it’s a shame that so much costs money these days. I think I would like to have a space to do crafts. Just an empty space where people can bring their own things to work on, but have the camaraderie of others. Maybe someday I can make that happen.
Barbie - glad you survived your wisdom tooth extraction.
You remind me of when I had mine out. I suffered throughout my pregnancy with Kaitlyn with two impacted wisdom teeth, they would start to come through get infected then sneak back down. When she was born it all cleared up until she was about 2 when I ended up getting all four taken out at once. Rodger was on the road so my mom drove me to my appointment all drugged up and Rodger’s Dad picked me up. He almost had to carry me. Like you, I don’t remember anything and after a couple of days the pain was good too.
Allie - what a day. I hope you don’t have too long of a wait for your echocardiogram now.
Lauryn and I had a talk about bucket lists on our drive on Saturday. I told her I didn’t think I had a whole lot on mine, that I wasn’t really into travelling or doing things but I would one day like to own a brand new car, that no one else has been in, and no one else will drive.
As I’ve been thinking about this though I think I do have a little bit of travelling I would like to do.
I would love to visit Rebecca on her little island and watch the deer through her trees. We could skoosh around the rest of the PNW, walk the power line with Barbara and go for a walk with Annie and Barbie. You’ll have to forgive me, my geography is a little iffy, but I think we could then go to California and have a tour around seeing Pip and her cute little patio, Debbie’s and Kim’s gardens and Tina’s travel albums. Visit Rita’s aliens in Roswell. There are many more stops we could make and it would just be wonderful to have a visit with each and everyone one of you. It reminds me of the old song 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, there was a line that said “we’ll buy a Winnabego set out to see America”.
Of course I would also have to fly overseas to see some of you, that wouldn’t be a hardship either. Although that flight to Tasmania would be daunting.
Well that’s my dream world for the day, I am currently sitting out on my deck, we bought a replacement canopy for the gazebo today so it’s nice and cozy again. We also bought an AC unit from our neighbour for $40 and two beer. We have to go get some stuff tomorrow so that we can get it installed.
I went grocery shopping today, I didn’t buy anything out of the ordinary except for $29 razors for Rodger, those were on sale and a box of hair dye for me that has increased $4 to $14.97 since I bought one 6 weeks ago. I ended up spending $340 and I’ll probably still have to grab more meat before next pay in two weeks.
Prices are absolutely insane.
I should go inside to see if it has cooled off any. I keep trying to limit my screen time but have been on it all evening now.

Happy Wednesday, everyone. I have been off for three days, and I have been sleeping a great deal, reading a good book, and playing with Rose. This morning, I am working on my recipe project now that I have more ink. I was happy that I lost 6 pounds this week. So maybe all the walking at work helped. My foot is looking better. I will be glad when the orthotic is ready. Hopefully, I can put Rose in Day camp for water aerobics with the crew. As far as work is concerned, I am going to send an email to my manager about my float to the NICU.(@Rosemarie2972)
@grandmallie, I hope the echocardiogram turned out to be normal.
@auntiebk I have been a neonatal nurse for 19 years. Currently, I have worked in the pediatric transitional/ palliative care unit. So now I have kids of all ages. Miss Rachel is so helpful in calming our sick babies. One baby was misbehaving by doing summersaults while on a vent. So we had to untangle her and sit her upright. Then, she used her iPad to play "Miss Rachel." You should have seen the smile on her cherub face. Her blue eyes lit up. She behaved. We had live-ins for ten years, but now they have moved out. Sometimes, when you have vent-dependent kids, it is hard for families to manage at home.
We had one kid from childhood through 33 years of age. I miss them. Now, I will decide what I will do in Chicago. I used to work for the University of Chicago for 15 years.
@LisaInArkansas, you are so right about husbands and friends. My husband always asks why he isn't my best friend. I explained that my friend Baby Suko was my ride-or-die. We grew up, went to school, and learned about life together. I can tell her more than I can tell my husband. My husband doesn't understand my feelings and why I get emotional sometimes.
@matchka9, thanks for the Stress Less post. I needed that—prayers for you and your husband.
@cityjaneLondon, I never heard of Scott Eggs. I will research.
Everyone, have a wonderful day, and I pray for you all.

Tracey - What a fabulous idea! And perfectly doable. You could start a Gofundme. I'd contribute. At the very least, you could get to Rebecca's island. Dream big! And make those dreams a reality.
'Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it; Boldness has genius, power, or magic in it.'
When I did the Leadership course back in 1990, ordinary people, with very little money, did extraordinary things, because they believed they could. I wrote a play in one weekend, booked a fringe theatre, and, the following year, put the play on with professional actors working for free, for three weeks. I was terrified the whole time. I raised most of the money from friends and family, who believed in the project and were happy to help me. I only had to ask them, and I hung their haloes up, with their names on, at the entryway to the theatre space. Theatre investors are traditionally called 'Angels'.
I know you could do it.
Dreams are there for a reason.

Barbie - So good to have got that out of the way. Being 'put out' was a great idea!
Allie - That must have been awful! Especially in the heat.
Yesterday, John emailed the council about our rubbish collection, which had been missed for two weeks! The lorry turned up at 15.15, which never happens, (it's always morning), so I think his complaint had a result.
The other good news was that I managed clamshells with my operated leg. Previously, I had to help it up with my hand, but this time it did it by itself.
We had a nice time with the kids. The weather here is chilly and rainy, so I got an Uber. ( I was going to catch the bus and walk over the railway bridge.) Bea is in the talent show at her school's big 'Fiesta In The Park' on Sunday. She gave us a rendition with a microphone, cane and top hat. It's a song from Willy Wonka. We are going to turn up just before she is on. The Fiesta is a big fund raiser for the school, so I hope the weather cheers up.
Max has his prize giving evening tonight, just before the England semifinal with the Netherlands. The parents are going, but I hope they finish ahead of schedule! The school is in the next big town, Lewes, about 12 miles away. There will be a lot of restless shuffling.
They don't tell the kids if they are going to get a prize. He is hoping. His parents are hoping hard as he has a scholarship. Personally, I don't agree with any of it, but I keep my mouth shut.

The MFP Community is my anchor. I've grown alongside amazing friends here.
July is a fresh start, building new habits and reinforcing old ones.
Let's connect, share and support each other on this journey!-3 -
Beth - Happy belated birthday! Hope you were able to celebrate with family.
Barbie - So glad your tooth work is done - here's hoping for a painfree, uncomplicated and swift healing.
Heather - Sometimes discretion's the hardest part... but if I said anything about why I'm saying that, it wouldn't be discreet! 👀🤣👀 So pleased the hip is coming along so well. Means you'll have a steadier platform while you're working through recovering from the other.
Tracey & Monique ( @mcmillonmail ) - I agree. Much as I love my husband, and I do, he does not understand how I feel about any number of things, from people to politics. With my best friend, even if she doesn't feel the same way I do, she understands. She and I do agree that our husbands come first, though. Barb never calls at noon, evenings or weekends, because that's "Corey time." I never call before 10 a.m. her time, because Chris sleeps in, and I don't want to disturb him. But she called at 1 p.m. yesterday and we talked for 90 minutes straight. I need that relationship, separately from my marriage, and she does too. All that said, Corey says I'm his best friend, and that is absolutely true, but it's because the boy has no other friends. Sets the bar kind of low. He does talk to one member of his family about once a month, when they call him - but there are six sisters and three brothers still living, and I never know which one is calling.
To anyone looking at befriending "DrBenja" above. First, they identify as male, coming onto a women's thread. Second, they note they have "grown alongside amazing friends here," but have only been on MFP 21 days, and have posted 21 comments in totally different threads. It feels very scammy, and I would not accept a friend request from them or initiate one to them. Over-careful, perhaps, but my antenna went up immediately with the way that post is phrased. Feels like grooming.
More in a bit - did some organizing yesterday.
Later,

Regarding husbands and friends ... I have always found it easier to make friends with boys rather than girls, men rather than women. So I have no close female friends and my husband is my closest friend. He's the one who knows the most about me and does things with me (like cycling, gardening, travelling, etc.). As for the intense thoughts ... I keep them to myself.
Last night we spent the first official night in the new house. There is still a lot to do but we're getting there.
I've seen these cute pictures of the first evening in your new home ... they've usually got a happy, smiling couple eating take-away pizza, with something like 2 boxes in the room. It's not like that. Or it hasn't been for us this time ... we have some furniture and things in place, but we're both very tired, so there wasn't a whole lot of happy & smiling. More like staring into space or dozing off. And there is stuff heaped everywhere. We're digging through things trying to find stuff now. It was a bit of an adventure to put together something to wear for work today!
I think this is the first time I've done a slow move. Most of my recent moves have involved boxing everything up really carefully and putting it into storage, then living with next to nothing for a while. I would do a slow move again IF we purge some of our stuff in the next year or so.
I have a feeling the next move would be to something like a retirement community.
Thank you all for your thoughts.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Allie stay cool! Glad your tire adventure worked out okay.
Rosemarie excellent that you found a writing group! Your yoga retreat in the mountains sounds fabulous!
Barbie glad your dental work is done. Yay!
Barbara hope your cistern system is fixed soon. You are strong and brave, getting through that.
Tracey yes I haven't moved most of my Mom's stuff. I thought I wanted her closets, but then I keep thinking I will lose some weight and wear some of her cute clothes.
Heather Yay for your excellent recovery!
Yesterday Dad called me for an early ride home from his adult day care. He never admitted anything was wrong, he just was "done." It bothers me because if he won't stay there, I can't get things done. Then that leads to thoughts about whether the whole care arrangement is viable.
I think I overreacted because I missed taking my pills again. But I really hope this doesn't become a trend. I need to dye my hair one of these days and I won't be able to stop and go get him.
Anyway, today's challenge is the DMV for a new title and new registration. I will have to convince him to let me drive his car. It won't be fun, but it will be great to get it done.
Have a wonderful day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I managed to get a last minute hair appointment for this afternoon. So I'm off in a few minutes. Just a 'wet cut', more of a trim, but it has got a bit long. I am going to rifle John's change jar for a tip!
I investigated under the bathroom carpet this morning. Grippa rods, underlay, and MDF. All looks solid. Then I rang the company, twice, about coming over for an estimate, but there was no answer. One more chance and that's it.
I have another company I can try, who did our front bedroom when we moved in.

Yesterday afternoon and this morning, finishing up. Had to do math and re-read the list every few days and decide how often I wanted to do something... so decided I'd try it this way. Don't know if it will work, but I've been keeping and adding to the original, handwritten list for three years, so...
My organizing for this week.

I contacted several companies about doing our floor.
One came out and measured, but didn't have the product we wanted.
One promised to come out to measure, but couldn't make it at the last minute, then rescheduled, then forgot to come, then finally came out and measured. We chose a product from them, and they promised a quote the next day. About a week later we were told that there was a shortage of the product we wanted and they'd have to order it from overseas. It's an Australian product. About 2 weeks later I got a text asking us to come in and pick a product. About another month later I got a similar text asking us to pick a product.
One replied and said they'd be in touch shortly to arrange a measurement and quote.
One asked me for my location (suburb) so they could direct me to the nearest store. I told them, and never heard back.
And finally one replied, came out and measured when scheduled, provided us with a quote that same day, and did the job a couple weeks later.
I don't know if these places are overworked or what but it seems such an effort to find someone!
Good luck with yours!

Barbara I use water and I forgot apple cider vinegar.
Found this recipe online...It is to be only used for dogs...
Essential Oil Pest Repellent Spray for Dogs
8- oz. spray bottle, preferably amber or cobalt glass.
1/3 - 1/2 cup distilled water.
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar.
1/4 cup witch hazel.
1/4 tsp. neem seed oil.
30 drops cedarwood.
30 drops eucalyptus.
20 drops geranium.
I forgot I add apple cider vinegar too. Shake before each use. This one does have some oil to help it stick better. Since I spray it on a bandana I just use the water and apple cider vinegar. I use peppermint instead of the eucalyptus and lemongrass instead of cedarwood.
If you go online you will find other recipes...lavender is another common addition. I make a smaller amount of spray and use less essential oils because I am using it on a small dog 13.5 pounds. I also spray this on me before I go out with her.
I would also go on line to see how often it should be sprayed on your pet because dogs will lick it off when applied. Important things to consider is the size of your dogs and how diluted your solution is.
Again it is recommended you use one oil at a time to make sure dog does not have a bad reaction and if directly sprayed on them them may ingest some of it by licking. I did read another way to use the oils is to apply a drop of two to a collar. Using that method I would remove the collar when not needed because it is on their head. Like any new product or food used or given to a dog I would watch for any negative reaction.
It is recommended for both dogs and humans not to apply essential oils directly to skin unless it is diluted with oil or water.
Hope this helps...
(((Barbie))) hope your recovery is going well.
Roof got done yesterday. When I went to inspect I did go upstairs and saw some staining from a leak on the roof. This more than likely happened before they did the roof. I rarely go upstairs right now. I am going to go over the roof with the supervisor today and he will inspect that area where the leak occurred. The leak is more proof it needed to be done. Fortunately it just stained a small spot on the ceiling. There was no water on the floor.
160 on the scale today. I am going to need to go through clothes to put away the too big and get out the smaller ones I still have...3 -
Lisa your list reminds of the lists I keep to make sure routine maintenance gets done. I have a wipe off board at son's house too! I use it for furnace filter, water filter, and trash ( every other week over there). Other projects too like monitoring ceiling, painting projects...etc.
I agree with you about the Dr. Benja post. I have noticed I have gotten a number of friend request from men since they changed the daily check in where I no longer see friends there. I do notice these men claim to be doctors or military men (thinking this is macho, ick!) When I look at their friend lists it appears to only be woman. (HMMM!) It gives my trash button a workout. So I agree be careful out there. Sometimes men do have the same problem with women targeting them for the wrong reasons too! In this day in age it pays to do a background check before you get hurt!
M It"s the same over here to find and keep good workers. I have a list for jobs I need done. Unfortunately sometimes when I find one I like they move onto to something else and I have to find a new one. When I do find a good one I always give them a tip for the work they do and appreciate the work they do. I have had to part ways occasionally too. Like the man I hired to paint our upper story. He always had excuses why he hadn't started. I had hired him in May and the job was still not done by September.
I might have been able to find a company to do my son's roof cheaper but I have worked with this company before and I know they will do it right. When we have a hail storm the number of companies I have no knowledge of show up at my door. No thanks!4 -

Woke up with a swollen parotid gland and ear on the left side of my face. The right doesn’t have a parotid gland any more so nothing year. No fever but swelling is sore when touched. All the nurses on here, what do you recommend I do for it? I looked it up online and they all said wait a week, if it doesn’t go away by then, see a doc. Took Tylenol and won’t walk or do anything today. Rest and Tylenol was all the internet said to do for now. It is making me sleepy tho, so day in bed reading I think.
Was bad with food yesterday, had a vanilla ice cream cup from Sonic and a large sugar free lemonade. Had the last peach which was in bad shape, on a biscuit with cool whip for supper and a handful of mixed nuts. Breakfast was low sugar instant oatmeal. I really need to switch to regular oatmeal not instant. Too many add-ins for the instant. Then I can flavor it how I want. Never did overnight oats, so may try that.
Dinner was shrimp olio and shrimp on lettuce with cocktail sauce made by DH. Tastes awesome but calorie heavy! I took 1 cup of spaghetti which is more than I should have. Couldn’t resist! My favorite type of pasta sauce!!

Naah, I can really only whistle if I am sucking the air in, so looks like I'm sipping from a straw!😂😁. Plus I can't sustain a note worth a darn. Do you know that my paternal singing grandmother sang with Don Ho in Hawaii once?? She loved him, so at one of his concerts, she finagled her way up to sing, you guessed it, "Tiny Bubbles". 💖
Good job with two hours worth of yard work!!! I would be the gal overheated with the hose spraying us periodically😂💖

AAARRGGH!!!!!
I am SO MAD!
While Joe was finishing the side yard clearing up job things I couldn’t do, (move the potted cherry tree, cement blocks and iron rose trellis) he “cut down the little tree.”
“Oh NO! Not the redwood tree?” If he had talked to me first I could have begged him to spare it. It would have been possible to lift the tank up elsewhere over the fence. I had been delighted to discover the sapling when I cleared the salal from that area. In the past two years it had grown into a healthy, lush 3 foot tall tree. Joe is genuinely sorry and I’m sorry to have reacted so badly, but I am literally sick to my stomach with anger, grief and disappointment in myself for making him feel so bad. Hoping BB&B class will disperse these feelings.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Don't know if it will work, but I've been keeping and adding to the original, handwritten list for three years, so...
My organizing for this week.
