I am looking forward to spring and more daylight hours.
Now that our stuff is either in the house or in storage and we can gradually set the place up, a lot of the pressure is off.
So now I am starting to think about cycling and walking again ... and exploring our new neighbourhood.

We are approaching the end of August. I am not computer savvy. I hope I will eventually find you guys next month:).
I hate cancer and what it does to people. It is rough and so scary. It is so evil. My prayers, Tracey, go out to all of your brave friends fighting cancer.
I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend. It's time for me to return to work so I can pay to fix this AC unit.7 -
Good Friday!
Way too much salt in past 24hrs. Made keibasa with potatoes for dinner Wednesday night light Rebecca . Leftovers for lunch yesterday. Then dinner at Cooper's Hawk for our anniversary. I had a shrimp and scallop risotto with lots of veggies. Relaxing evening. Our server did okay. I really enjoy their food. The only thing I don't like is everything is slow mode. One shouldn't have to wait 15 mins for a server to get drink orders, another 15 mins to get said drinks, and when the meal is completed it takes so long to get a check. Our server was bringing us chocolate cake to go on the house for our anniversary, we were on the way out the door 15 mins later when she handed us the dessert. Just slow each time we go. Good thing I save it for special occasions. Cooper's Hawk and J Alexander's are the nicest restaurants close to us. Both are always on a wait. I worked at J Alexander's for over 5 yrs. DH goes to "fancy" restaurants for me. His style is more Bagger Dave's (sports bar). Overall was a wonderful night.
It is great to read all the healing going on!
I hope all have a great day!
May you have many laughing moments!
Lots of love,

I'm enjoying my day to myself.
Of course, this morning, I thought, what happens if John's friend wants to come in for the toilet when he gets here? So, spruced up the kitchen, hoovered the living room, polished the hall table, tidied, scoured. Looks nice though. Always worth it.
Then had to quickly 'get my face on' for his arrival. Always worth it.
I hope he appreciated it.
I watched two Michael Moseley programmes back to back, as John doesn't much like him. I must say, I did pipe my eye occasionally, thinking of that awful death. It was courageously introduced by his wife. One person was having a hip replacement!
I kept doing 'exercise snacks' throughout, so not just recumbent. I also prepared a gorgeous lunch, with excessive calories, though super healthy. Felt guilty, but loved it. Burrata, avocado, scallions, garlic, chick peas, olive oil, lemon juice, seasoning. All fabulous, but I ate a mountainous portion!
I have a film I want to watch later this afternoon. Hooray for free days.
Hoping to get a short nap in first.

Morning ladies
Sean texted me last night and thanked me for the nice day..
And went out to dinner with Doris and Janet her daughter that was up from Florida.. just had a childs cheeseburger and a small fry and diet coke.
Then came home..going for flu shot and whooping cough shot today so I can see the new little one. And get new polish on.
But right now think I'll go back to sleep for a bit.6 -
Well , I don’t think I will reach my $1000 goal for the MS ride this year so no jersey for me. I was thinking about seeing if I could buy the jersey but then I changed my mind because it’s not the same as earning it. Oh well. I had increased riding goal to 3500 miles awhile back, I’m at 3401.16 so I might make it. Still in first place for women, but I slipped into 6th place overall. At lease the donations end I think in November so that $$ would go for this years ride (sept 7 & 8) so I still have time. I’m not stressing over it. Not to mention saddle sores. Kirby switched me seat on my bike to see if that will help.

Good morning beautiful ladies!
And beautiful flowers too! Thank you Margaret!
Heather excellent picture of Edie. A glimpse of her future.
Lanette glad your sciatica is healing. Yay!
Rebecca good job shopping! That's where it all starts.
Kylia happy anniversary!
I read the last of my Rachel Grant books, and want to get more for the weekend. But I need to curb my spending.
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Good morning, my dear hearts,
Monique - As Kylia said, you'll be able to get to us easily - just make sure to pay special attention to @barbiecat posts tomorrow, the 31st. Barbie starts us off each month with a new, clean slate. You'll find us again... In a pinch, you can always find the current month by title at the My Fitness Pal - Categories - Motivation and Support page. ( https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/motivation-and-support ).
Heather - You sound more like you every day. Glad to have you back. Edie is so beautiful, and they all look like they're having enormous fun. I know you miss 'em, though.
Tracey - I'm so sorry so many people you care about seem to be coming up with cancer at once. It does seem to go in waves...
Carol - How's your knee?
Lanette - Good to see your sciatica is paining less. Riding mowers remind me of the old vibrating belt machines from the 40s and 50s. Jiggling everything!
Rebecca - The vertigo hits every time I lay down, but only for a swimmy second or two. If I put my hand over my eyes so no light reaches them it passes quickly. Only occasionally, when I turn from my left side over to my right in the night, I'll get the urks. The daytime ones seem quite random. It's not all the time, but definitely involves head movement. More annoying than anything. Love your shopping! From another shrimp lover, if you want custom-made cocktail sauce, buy some of the Heinz chili sauce - looks just like ketchup, but they add a few other spices. Add a little horseradish cream to a quarter or half cup of the chili sauce. Horseradish lasts forever in the fridge, and you can get the mixture to exactly your taste, from slightly spicy to clear-your-sinuses. Very yummy, super easy, and so much better than pre-made cocktail sauce.
More in just a minute,
Love,

Margaret - I am so glad you made it to the fair! Sounds like a great time. You look like a teenager. Love the photo of Drew.
Annie- great that the lunch with your dad's church friend went well. Someone to keep an eye out for his well-being.
Tracey - good to hear you are getting settled in. It will be nice to get some personal items in your office.
Heather - nice that you are got a "free day". The new vinyl in the bathroom will be wonderful. In our first house, the half-bath connected to the master bedroom was carpeted, and the floor in there was "mushy" There was a leak that was never discovered until major damage was done. With vinyl, leaks become evident quickly. Glad the kids made it to Croatia and are having a good time.
Those of you who watched the sciatica video I posted yesterday - did you notice how the therapist demonstrating it was on the pudgy side? She has become one of my favorites. A real person with real curves and still fit and limber - that's motivational to me.
Carbs before bed and blood sugar -I watched an interesting YouTube video this morning. This fellow wears a continuous glucose monitor and continually tests different foods to see how they affect his blood sugar. This video, in particular, caught my attention because he showed how eating something like caramel popcorn right before bed kept his blood sugar high all night. He said it was likely due, in part, to not having any activity after the snack to burn off the glucose. I know I'd been guilty of that prior to my higher A1C labs. I still fall back on a slice of sourdough from time to time. I need to go back to a tablespoon of peanut butter if I just HAVE to eat something to keep me from getting hungry at night. Bear in mind this is HIS result. We are all different, and others might be able to process a sugary snack just fine. I ate sweet things right before bed for years, and my fasting blood glucose was great until this spring - though I'm sure there were additional factors in play. It's supposed to be in the upper 80's today. I need to get the weed eater going and might make some applesauce in the crockpot. The gravenstein apple tree didn't have a lot of apples this year, and the few it has are too high for me to reach, but I pick up the windfalls and can cut out the bruises. I leave the peels on and zing them with the immersible blender when everything is cooked. I like a serving of it mixed with cottage cheese and some crushed walnuts.
I better get going!

Now for my film.

I'm back...
Hello again, my chickens,
I am so enjoying looking at my calendar for the entire month of September with absolutely no appointments! Not one! Might change, hopefully not. But for now, it's stretching out with no commitments whatsoever. A lot of the edema seemed to depart yesterday, along with a couple other pounds. Appreciate the loss... but wish things would just normalize for a while.
However, I am doing more than fine today. My biggest decision is whether to drink a second cup of tea or not. Already made it, and sipping on that second cup now... 👀😹 I'm assembling and sewing bar-hanging dish towels again today. These are for my best friend. Her dad's in the hospital.
DO NOT READ if sadness is a trigger for you right now:Her 88-year-old dad had about a half dozen strokes, the worst one in the prefrontal lobe. Some are affecting his arms and legs, but the bad one is affecting his decision-making ability, and judgment among other things. Mostly, he doesn't remember why he's in the hospital, and is confabulating to my friend and the nurses about why he's there, and why he isn't holding a drink or reading or walking to the bathroom. I didn't know that was a thing.
I don't know Bud well, but I'd met him more than once. The last time I saw him was when he was about 80. He was still a giant redwood of a man, nearly seven feet tall, and even with all his muscle and fat pared off of him by the years, massive.
During one of his short lucid periods yesterday, when he realized what had happened, she said he started crying. I don't think there are any good endings in this scenario, and he lives alone, so there are even fewer.
She just lost her mom a couple years ago, and her beloved older brother a few years before that. Her older sister is capable of caring for herself, but is somewhere on the spectrum, unable to work, and on public assistance. She is no support for my friend at all, but that is nothing new. The rest of the family, aunts and uncles, have their own health woes and don't live nearby, either.
Luckily, her husband, who had the heart procedure done last week, but is recovering well, should be able to get there today. I hope so.
This is not about me in any way, but her horrible rite of passage that so many seem to go through is reminding me that my mother's stroke 25 years ago killed her within 24 hours, and I've always been grateful that it was swift and seemed painless. Even more so now. That was in Texas, and my friend lived in Montana, and she picked up her phone every time I called throughout the single most devastating night of my life. All I can do is the same. 😢
I'm just staying by the phone in case she needs a voice. Wish I could do more.
Corey's good morning call was a lovely lift for my morning. He recently ordered chinos and a couple of decent shirts, and I told him that we can't afford for him to have a mid-life crisis right now, so a sports car is out of the question. 🤪 Not that he said he was buying a sports car. Luckily, he understands my sense of humor. 👀🤣
Also on a lighter note, Egg has decided she is far too posh for her kitty doors that we installed for her - one going into the sunroom (which was the back door) and one built into the wall of the sunroom... So she quacks at me until I open the person door to the carport. Bossy little cat! Got to go, the princess calls... 👀🐈⬛😹
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR
Oh, oh, oh! Quick weather report - The weather's finally broken, supposed to only get to mid-80s (30C) today and RAIN! Woot. Sure hope they're right...7 -

@Lannette, I do have a container garden but it did not do well at all this year. It was too hot in June, so plants didn’t get a good start. I plan on planting some beets and snow peas the end of September and will see how that works. First time I’ll try that.
Michelle, Golden Corral was $19 a person the last time I went, I think it was a couple years ago now. This time, It was 13.99 plus a dollar off because we are over 60. 12.99 is doable for me. That’s about what you’ll pay going to a fast food restaurant and we can choose what to eat and how much! DH eats a LOT when we go there!
I didn’t take a picture of yesterday’s lunch. I made a salad with Romain, cucumber, and onion, olive oil and wine vinegar. DH made us hamburgers, I add some cheese and green sweet relish to it with a dinner roll on the side. Simple but good!
The open house at the Adult Center where I teach was a busy. Only about 5 people came to the computer class and 3 of them wanted advanced Excel classes, not beginner classes. I told the manager that I would have to think about doing one of those. She was talking about a one day (2 hour) workshop instead of a class. IDK, I’ll have to wait on what happens. Classes start next Thursday and I doubt anyone will sign up. I’m just going to have to take my name off the teaching list. I haven’t taught a class since last fall and that was only for 6 weeks! Oh, well, we shall see!

I have been reading some suggested readings from my diabetes class and found this one very interesting. To summarize, healthy eating of ‘raw’ foods (non-processed) is always best but avoiding foods simply makes you crave them, and subsequently over-indulge in them. This article refers to ‘Intuitive Eating” which I didn’t know was a ‘thing’ until I read this, but it makes a lot of sense. Check it out if you want a different take on eating: https://www.rachaelhartleynutrition.com/blog/intuitive-eating-101-beginners-guide-to-intuitive-eating
