    ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND 191.0

    09/13 -DNW- (Trend weight -DNW-)

    09/18-192.4- (Trend weight-192.3-)

09/19-194.6- (Trend weight-192.6-) I got home so late last night that I didn’t have time to actually post but I did weigh yesterday morning and today so I’ve documented the weights. It was a long day doing the medical trip for my eye issues. My eye issues will eventually require surgery but it’s very risky and they want to wait until it is absolutely necessary so I’m to go back for rechecks every 6 months. The condition “eye pucker” is more common in women than men and is actually caused by old age. It’s an actual wrinkle in the back of the eye caused by an eyeball collapse of sorts. Old age….Humph. It’s more common in women because we usually live longer. They said I am pretty young (age 64) to have this condition but my eyes are aging more rapidly due to T2 diabetes. The surgery would involve removing the jelly in the back of my eye, pulling up a pucker and then filling the gap with an air bubble. What the scan looked like was an even line like a beach of sand going straight across and then suddenly a big triangular sink hole was in the center then back up to the straight beach line again. That sinkhole needs to be pulled back up. I will put a link below with what I found when I googled it this morning for anyone interested. I had never heard of this condition. I also have the start of a cataract in both eyes pretty evenly. That will also wait the doctor said as they are just beginning. Also, I have a large floater. Good news is that he did not find any bleeding vessels the other doctor told me I had. Gosh, this T2D has really wreaked havoc on me. Avoid it at all costs my friends! I was first diagnosed in 2007 when I quit smoking and very quickly gained a lot of weight. This makes losing weight all the more important to my body. I’m proud of how far I’ve come since then (I weighed 253 at one point for a very long time). However, I still have quite the road ahead. I’m planning a very careful day today to offset the overnight gain from yesterday’s trip. More travel tomorrow to my son’s dental which is about 75 miles each way. Lunch will likely be out again. I’ll try to keep it to one meal although it’s going to be another long day as I have quite a few things to do in that town in relation to my renovation. He’s the link I mentioned:

09/20-193.4- (Trend weight-193.4-) Travel today and then a quiet weekend. . I hope to be able to string some good days together with diet and exercise after the dental trip today for my son. My DGS I normally babysit for Thur – Sun fell off the jungle gym at school and got a compound fracture in his arm. He will be with his mom and dad all weekend as they await information on when he can be casted. Since they are no longer together, I hope they will get along okay spending the weekend together. My DGS had to be sent 4 hours away to a specialty children’s hospital to have it set which luckily did not require a surgery after all. Please keep Owen in your thoughts & prayers.

Well, I should have been making notes when I started reading! Too many to remember!!

@Chapter|_3 I love the unstuffed pepper. My DH doesn’t like stuffed peppers but as far as I know, has never had one! I will follow your lead the next time!
@AR10at50 - I‘m envious of your horse workout! I wouldn’t do it because of my weak backbone. I hope I’m improving it with supplements and exercise. To answer your question about doing keto with sourdough, I actually didn’t worry about it. DD has an issue with eating anything but fish and fowl so I knew my WOE was going to be different than at home. I made a half sandwich a couple of times with lots of cold cuts and cheese on her sourdough. I really need to see if there is something about sourdough and keto because it didn’t make me crave carbs the way store bread does. I have no problem with your “personal” question. Maybe the bread is the reason I have become “regular.” @judefit1 - I think you asked about her starter. She made her own. I will try to post the links she gave me.

@judefit1 - these are the two sites she sent me. The bread, biscuit, and pancake recipes are “discard” starter recipes on Farm House on Boone.

    🎷 66 yrs young F, 5ft 4 Round 272 (my 202nd). So grateful as always @Quiltingjaine for another round.

This round will be a challenge as we are on holiday in Spain for the whole 10 days, eating in the hotel for 2 meals per day & not being in control of food preparation is always difficult to calculate calories. I CAN do it again if I remain strong.
    Goals for this round;
    • First and foremost, no feeding frenzies
    • to try not to gain!
I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.
Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, it’s taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.

Updated 20.08.24 – I met up with DB, first time after his DP passed away at the way too early age of 46. DB lives a long way from us, we see him very infrequently & is very introvert, so not a sharer of info 😞. However, he finally opened up to me, it seems that his DP's bad health leading to heart failure followed by kidney, liver failure & then a massive stroke, was originally caused by heavy drinking. By the time he realised he was abusing his body and went teetotal, the damage was too late to reverse. He was on the list for a heart transplant, but his other organs gave up before one became available.
This has made me think about how I am abusing my body when I have binges with way too much sugar, fat & salt. I know I am a food addict. I'm going to try to think about this when I am tempted to over indulge, I need to start respecting my body more and think about whether I want to be in the best health I can be. My body has served me so well for 66 years, it deserves to be given the best chance to keep serving me well & I've been really lucky that life has not dealt me a raw health deal, so jeopardize that luck.

9/13 DNW – up at stupid o’clock for the airport 😊.
9/14 DNW - 7.55 miles walked. I think I stayed within calories as best I could calculate :)
9/15 DNW - 14.73 miles walked yesterday, kept to plan as best I could tell.
9/16 DNW - 10.11 miles walked yesterday, kept within calories, been using the hotel gym each morning just to do my regular stretching and toning exercises, usually let those slip whilst on holiday. 46th wedding anniversary today; where do the years go!!
9/17 DNW - 9.18 miles walked, had a lovely day, did celebrate but not over the top 😄.
    9/18 DNW - 14.34 miles walked.
    9/19 DNW - 12 miles walked.
    9/20 DNW - 13 miles walked.
9/21 DNW - 5.42 miles only walked yesterday, we had torrential rain for most of the day, no chance of the gym this am as last night it was under 16 inches of water; it is in the basement!!

@quiltingjaine: thanks for the sites- I think this is a good fall "project"!

@deepwoodslady: your poor little grandson, a break is bad enough but compound is really rough! Hopefully he's set now and will mend quickly.

@Skyleen75: I'm so glad to know that someone else doesn't track and log, I've tried for years but I've never been able to keep it up, so for me weighing daily and all of you in this group have been a game changer!

    SW RND 272—162.8

9/13 163.6 This uptick was not because of food, but I’m not sure where it did come from. Oh, the games our bodies play when we are trying to lose weight!
9/14 163.8 Not much exercise because our water heater was out and had to be replaced.
9/15 163.6 Got in a good, sweaty walk to the beach yesterday to offset some vacation foods. Hot water now, so showers aren’t painful!
9/16 163.8 Another wonderful walk yesterday out to the beach, down the beach, and back. Expected a drop this morning, but in light of the fact that all meals are prepared in restaurants while we are here, I’ll take a holding pattern.Trying to push proteins and water to offset some of the salt and higher carbs. We fly home tomorrow. But I’ll miss the great place we have to walk here.
9/17 163.8 We fly home today, so I’m hoping I can get unstuck once I get home. It’s been weird to have been on such a plateau while here in FL. I’ve walked a ton, but guess the vacation food has offset that even though I’ve been pretty careful.
9/18. 163.2 Headed back down a bit this morning! Yay! Going to push water and protein again today and get back in the swing of things. Got in a walk after flying home yesterday plus some walking at the airport while waiting for the plane. I am doing better with water lately, so will continue to work on that to see if I can push through this plateau I’ve been on for a couple rounds now. Slowly adding in some beginner weight training this week, too. Did one session already this morning, so it's a start!
9/19 163.2 STILL!!! Ah, well, this is how it goes, isn’t it? Did some light strength training yesterday in addition to walking in the evening. Food was on track with over 100 g of protein. Sleep is really hard to come by these days. Up at 3:30 this morning much to my dismay. Don’t want to take Tylenol PM or anything though. Hoping I will get past this soon.
9/20 161.2 WooHoo! Finally a whoosh! This makes 30 pounds lost. Still a ways to go though.
9/21. 161.6 Lots of walking yesterday (11K+ steps) and strength training in the form of swinging a heavy mattock to remove some tough vegetation and carrying firewood—cleanup in the mountains at the camper.
    9/22

I'm verbalizing goals here today for accountability:
    * At least 8000 steps each day, but hopefully over 10,000 at least 3 times a week.
    * Strength training 2-3 times this next week.
    * 90+ grams of protein each day.
    * Drink more water!

9/21-164-Lots of yard and house work. Still recovering from the bloat of my trip. We were constantly offered water and I carried plenty of water on the horse, but it still wasn’t near what I normally drink. -Off to a funeral for a gal I grew up with, then back home to finish getting the house/yard ready for an 80th birthday party for DH’s uncle tomorrow.

@deepwoodslady - Donna, your DGS is in my thoughts and prayers. He sure makes a darling patient.

@quiltingjaine - thanks for the info. DH has a neuropathy thing that occurs when he eats white rice, pasta, potatoes and white bread. However, sourdough does not do that to him and he believes it is because it takes longer to digest and get into his system…..And yes, that horse trip was interesting, traveling downhill for great lengths of time was hard on my lower back and if I did it again, I would wear my Velcro back support.

    End-of-2024 Goal—weight 170.

    Day/Weight/Trend Weight/Comment

    9/13 - 198.2/198
This uptick of 1.8 in one day makes absolutely no sense. I’m officially depressed about it.

    9/14 - 198/197.9
I did some “consolation eating” last night. Not too bad, but more than optimum. I’ll do better today.

    9/15 - 197.4/197.8
Nothing much to report. Have a lovely Sunday, all!

    9/16 - 197.4/197.6
Other than 10 Triscuits last night, I did well all day.

    9/17 - 196.8/197.4
Better. Also, I realized something (thank you, @SModa61 , for the nudge with your calcium discussion!). I’ve been having terrible gut issues all spring and summer, making me afraid to be far from a bathroom so keeping me from long walks. Have tried eliminating various foods from my diet with no results. Didn’t even think about the magnesium I’ve been taking to prevent leg cramps. I’ve stopped for a bit to see if that’s it. If so, and if cramps come back, I’ll add calcium to balance it out. I actually feel better already, and am hopeful for nice long autumn and best-of-winter walks.

    9/18 - 197.2/197.3
    Nothing to report today. 😊

    9/19 - 197.2/197.2
I’ve been keeping my calories below 1400, so sooner or later I have to lose, in theory. Just discouraging. I do like it, though, when real and trend weights line up—feels like a fresh start. 🤪

    9/20 - 196.6/197
I’m having a sudden flare of rosacea on my cheek, which I believe is food related, so I’m putting myself on the Institute for Functional Medicine’s elimination diet for a bit. When I was on a doctor/dietician prescribed elimination diet a few years ago for elevated inflammation markers and PMR, the redness on my face (probably mild rosacea) completely cleared up. I told DH yesterday that I think we should feed ourselves for a while, and that I really can’t continue eating so much pasta. Plus he’s been buying more frozen meals lately (probably sick of cooking) and I really don’t want all the added crap. He seems to be unaffected by whatever he eats, but I’m not! Anyway, my face looks awful and itches like crazy, so I’m hoping the very clean, if somewhat limited, diet will clear it up. Plus help me start losing weight!

    9/21 - 197/196.9
I absolutely do not understand how I can tick up half a pound when my calories for the past week have been low. So weird. Anyway, I do seem to have a better handle on my eating lately, so that’s a plus.

    9/22 -

09/21-DNW- (Trend weight-DNW-) No-weigh Saturday instead of Friday as I forgot to take the once-per-week medication yesterday. Just as well since I traveled yesterday and ate Chinese food out. I need that day of buffer as most of yesterday was sitting in the car. Today I will attempt to get the gumption up to get outside and do some raking. It is becoming too thick in the backyard for the squirrels and birds I feed. The trees are still very full, even with the depth of what is on the ground! It’s too dry to burn in the bonfire but I can make piles for another day I suppose. Hopefully my son will help, he desperately needs the exercise too. My DGS Owen will get his cast on Wednesday at the special children’s hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan. In the meantime, they have sent him home to begin the process of reducing the swelling. I’m just so thankful they canceled the surgery after being able to get it set under anesthesia. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
