9/25 132.5 UGH my stomach was โoffโ yesterday so I really didnโt eat much. Also didnโt track so need to do that. Going to Golden Corral this afternoon, ugh!
9/26 134.5 Double UGH! I really didnโt pig out at what I am now calling the Pigout Parlor. I had a small bowl of salad and a plate with a chicken thigh, a small piece of pot roast, 8 Brussels sprouts, and a serving of small fried shrimp. I wasnโt even tempted to get dessert.

Such weird swings, but todayโs # makes me happier. Iโve been eating either breakfast or lunch, not both, and I donโt miss the missing meal, so thatโs a plus. Also doing better with late-night snacks. Iโve been having a bowl of cereal with fruit & kefir at night to get in my collagen powder in, and that is very satisfying. Iโve cut out the junk snacking. Iโm also starting to trust my gut, so able to go for longer walks. All good!

I joined this group in Rnd 245 on Dec 18 2023, when I realized I was eating my way through the holidays; I finally got on the scale and was hovering just under 150 lbs. It took about 4 months to reach my goal weight of 125. Sounds great, but Iโve done this before, which is why Iโm still here.
Itโs not just about losing, itโs about changing the habits of a lifetime that keep me stuck in self-defeating cycles with food.

I noticed something that I've observed before-when I've maintained my weight for a long time (5 months this time), I start thinking I've gained, or the scale is wrong, and my mind starts playing tricks.
โWhen I'm losing weight, it's easy to see results and feel positive; when I'm stable, I feel the self-criticism coming on. This may be where my younger self's eating disorders started: self image rather than reality. Which is why the scale and group support are most important: keeping me realistic- and positive- about where I am. It's so easy to fall into self-doubt... โ

@judefit1 @chapter_3 I have said for years (like 20) that maintaining is harder than losing, in the sense that there is less "gratification" to it. No excitement. No exciting feedback. I do not do maintaining well. But I am realizing that for me, it needs to be more important than my many many loses.7 -

Home again after a really lovely 10 days in Spain. 4 pounds gained , need to lose this before I travel in 3 weeks to Turkey to visit DB.
Goals for this round;

I need to remain consistent - it does work! Good luck for success everyone.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, itโs taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! But then I crept up again, so need to get back to around 134. A healthy lifestyle must be a permanent way of life.***
Updated 20.08.24 โ I met up with DB, first time after his DP passed away at the way too early age of 46. DB lives a long way from us, we see him very infrequently & is very introvert, so not a sharer of info ๐. However, he finally opened up to me, it seems that his DPs bad health leading to heart failure followed by kidney, liver failure & then a massive stroke, was originally caused by heavy drinking. By the time he realised he was abusing his body and went teetotal, the damage was too late to reverse. He was on the list for a heart transplant, but his other organs gave up before one became available.
This has made me think about how I am abusing my body when I have binges with way too much sugar, fat & salt. I know I am a food addict. I'm going to try to think about this when I am tempted to overindulge, I need to start respecting my body more and think about whether I want to be in the best health I can be. My body has served me so well for 66 years, it deserves to be given the best chance to keep serving me well & I've been really lucky that life has not dealt me a raw health deal, so I must not jeopardize that luck.

NSV: In the last few months I've been doing yoga with 2 different teachers I've known for years but hadn't seen in a very long time; both commented that "I look exactly the same" as I did 20 years ago. I don't- and my joints know it- but I'm sooo happy for their fuzzy memories! :-)7 -

@judefit1 and @chapter_3 I keep thinking "never again", and that I have it this time. If I have to congratulate myself on anything is that my "bounces" are getting smaller. Highest high was like 168, then I got into the 150's a couple times, then 140's a couple times. This time I caught it at 137. I need to stop the yo-yoing, or get the bounces even smaller.7 -

History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two โkidsโ, who are very much adults, a two grandsons. We have two parents, 87(mother), 85(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an โall in or notโ person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse (father has since passed and I am DPOA, Personal representative AKA executor, trustee, and oversee the majority of my motherโs care). A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

9/25 โ 133.0 I could tell from my โearly morning routineโ that the scale would be acceptable. Due to my teeth today, diet choices are going to be going back to needing to be tweaked. Got my newest Invisalign refinement yesterday (3rd) and my teeth are quite tender.
9/26 โ 133.6 Boing! No caloric reason. My only theory is that it reflects a very high dietary calcium day yesterday. I am at least seeing a slow, though erratic, downward trend. If I look in my spoilers (so helpful to have easily available), I am down at least 2 lb over the month. Hopefully a healthy non-yo-yo pace. Unfortunately, if one looks back further in my spoilers, I am still 7 lb up from a year, yet 15 lb down from 4 years ago. It is a journey.
9/27 โ 133.6 still no reason for the number. Just going to keep trusting the tracking (which is a key reason TOO track) and move forward. Today, starting the day with the crabby contractor from last week. I need to not let them set me off into a binge.
9/28 โ 134.4 This sort of thing is going to be my new pattern. Yesterday, I did get a little out of line, BUT I tracked everything. And I have got to hand it to MFP. Last night, I finally broke down and opened candies from Iran, given to us by a friend. Only the ingredients, were written in duplicate in English. I figured I would not be able to track. On a lark, I scanned the barcode, and presto, I was apparently eating โGaz Badamiโ at 45 calories each. I honestly was expecting โinvalid barcodeโ that get at times even in our local grocery store.
9/29 โ 134.4 This morning, I am actually grateful for this number. I fully expected the number to have gone up. Though the day was well planned, when we went out to eat, we were with a widower who would not order items unless shared. No regrets on that part. Then I got home and ate three more of the Gas Badami. That I regret as there was no need to have done so.
On another note, besides MFP, Reddit is a place I gather lots of information. Many many topics, but newly I am in some bone health groups, and discussions are certainly encouraging me to not only think about my goals, but also my path to them. Note that my intended weight range puts me right about that BMI of 21.
From yesterday:
โEat dairy or other calcium-rich foods 3x per day (meet the RDA for calcium, basically). If not dairy, then bok choi, collards, etc. They said spinach but apparently it has high oxalates so you don't really absorb much of the calcium, bok choi and collard greens are MUCH better than spinach. Broccoli is okay but you'd have to eat a literal boatload of brocoli to get enough calcium. Bok choi and collard greens have way way more calcium than any other commonly eaten veggies.โ
โAs someone who is always looking to trim off a couple pounds, what do you consider to be "low-weight"? โ
Two replies:
โLow-weight would be underweight, which is bad for your bones independent of anything else you do, but if you're not underweight you don't have to worry about it, and it's not necessary to gain weight to improve bone density unless you are underweight (BMI < 19), it could help a little (but not necessary) if you're low-end of normal weight (BMI < 21), otherwise it would not help. If you are overweight, you can gain bone density even if you lose weight.โ
โBeing underweight is a risk factor for osteoporosis. Probably the limited calories, lower protein and mineral intake, and reduced stress on the bones play a part.โ

To those reading yesterdayโs post, I meant to cut and paste this info prior to the โtrim off a couple poundsโ question, that was in response said information:
โEat in a calorie surplus if low body weight. Definitely avoid a calorie deficit. Not a good idea to lose weight when trying to build bone, such a thing is impossible. Make sure to get enough protein, I shoot for 1g/lb of body weight (not 1g/kg like commonly advised as the RDA, that's way too little if you are at all active and especially if you are trying to build bone). Meats, beans, etc. all good on that front.โ

10/2 โ 132.8 Happy face for sure. The knowledge that today was the last day of the round really helped me deal with staying up late for some necessary TV watching last night. Started with ยผ caf coffee, just to help me stay awake. I did eventually resort to food but that included three 5 calorie jello cups and a large spicy dill pickle. I got my sweet, salty and spicey for 21 calories and without damage. From my spoiler, it appears that my last sighting of a โ2โ was likely back in June. On to round 274.

Such weird swings, but todayโs # makes me happier. Iโve been eating either breakfast or lunch, not both, and I donโt miss the missing meal, so thatโs a plus. Also doing better with late-night snacks. Iโve been having a bowl of cereal with fruit & kefir at night to get in my collagen powder in, and that is very satisfying. Iโve cut out the junk snacking. Iโm also starting to trust my gut, so able to go for longer walks. All good!

9/23 - 136.6 ๐ซโฑ๏ธ Hello, weekend weight! I'm sure a lot of this is water, but I think I'm getting to the point in my cycle where my body likes to hold onto that for a little while. At least if my annoyance at DH is any indication (it usually is, lol). It was a lovely family weekend, though. We had the famer's market, halloween decorating, a small music festival in a cool little hippie enclave 40 minutes away, and apple picking with my dad and step-mom. But of course we also had the restaurant meals that being busy usually entails. I meal planned and grocery shopped yesterday afternoon, however, so I feel prepared for the week ahead. Most of my goals are the same this round but I decreased the number of intermittent fasting days. When I lift in the morning I like to eat breakfast afterward. I missed my alcohol-free goal by a day so I'm going to repeat my goal of 5 days. Honestly DH is an awful influence in this area. It's definitely a lot easier to not drink when we're both not drinking, but right now that goal is not on his radar, and I can only lead by example. Today my activity will be dog walking and weight lifting.

I hate entering recipes into MFP and then estimating how much of it I ate. I know, I know, that's the whole thing, but I find it exhausting. Anyway my non-scale goals are off to a good start for the week. Today's workout will be some kind of cardio. The weather is funky so I may finally start the Peloton equipment back up again. For some reason indoor cardio has been unappealing to me lately. I haven't used my treadmill or bike since we went to Colorado in May. I know I'll enjoy it once I get on it. Just some inertia I have to overcome.

Another "coincidence" is that I've left my phone in another room until the very end when I just need to turn white noise on. Hmm, perplexing. It's like the countless studies about sleep hygiene are correct!

My kindergartener is home from school for the rain and wind weโre getting from the hurricane (Iโm in SW Virginia so not a dangerous amount; just flooded roads either happening or likely) so I probably wonโt make it to the gym to lift. Maybe I can get down the basement for a dumbbell workout with Peloton. My mom is coming over this afternoon and weโre going out for Mexican tonight. So many factors pointing to an off-track day! Iโm going to fast this morning for sure. Maybe pre-track fajitas and a margarita and see where that leaves me. Side note: I have not had a fully emptying TMI since Monday. I'm falling in love with weight lifting. The shoulder press is my new nemesis and goal. I had surgery on my labrum when I was 19, and apparently I have neglected lifting UP. Also, I took a walk last night and ended up with a new personal best. It's a great end to these 10 days!

We have a concert tonight but I think I will forego any beer since I'll have to be up early and I'd rather feel good this weekend. I have a busy weekend with that concert tonight, tomorrow we volunteered to take the VFD truck to be a part of the parade for Frontier Days in our neighboring community. Sunday BF's finals are due for his MBA - once those are done, he only has 2 classes left and 20 weeks of active school (fortunately his "off" week between classes also happens to align perfectly with our vacation). This is exciting. But with that, I have plenty of editing and helping him to ensure things make sense since this week has been super hectic with work for us both so it would be easy to make silly mistakes. I'm looking forward to this vacation if nothing more than to be relatively responsibility-free hah!

10/02 - 154.1 - I'm holding on to water weight, I think. I've been drinking a gallon a day so far but my food hasn't been ideal. Yesterday I was within goal for fat and protein but was low on carbs and fiber (due to missing my last snack - I just blanked on it and was distracted being busy at work). I won't be around for the next round so I'm hoping everyone has a great 10 days and I'll return on or after the 14th (I return to work the 14th but I'll be so busy playing catchup, I'll see if I can hop on here to check in) I'll miss you all!

09/24 - I'm retaining a ton of water right now, it's all okay. Last week I only managed to be home and track macros/log Thursday. Every other day I was out with work travel (Monday-Wednesday) or running errands out of town (eating out on the go Friday) or out of town at a concert overnight (Saturday-Sunday). Whew, busy. This week Coach kept my macros the same since I couldn't really log with any accuracy last week. Next week she plans to up my macros and I can aim to hit those until I leave Thursday night. I will be gone the entirety of next round, I believe. We return home at about midnight the 11th so the 12th will be a wonky day of trying to get situated back home. The only plans we have this weekend are taking one of the VFD trucks to a parade which will require us eating out one meal but otherwise we'll likely hang out and relax. Things are really hectic here but I'll try to be better about checking in this round before I leave!

09/26 - I'm very sore all over and I'm also a bit stressed so I'm not surprised about not dropping off. I feel like I'm also going through a bit of a body recomp. We are behind schedule at work on most projects I'm working on and then next week I'm traveling out of the country so they're going to be even more short-handed so they're really trying to do about 10 things at once and I don't work well trying to multitask. Then there's my normal pre-travel anxiety. Even more so that we're going out of country and I've never done that before. I am going with others who have experienced it multiple times who can guide me, but I'm still anxious. Then again, I get anxious with traveling within my own country and I've done it so often it's almost 2nd nature. I'm focused on hitting my macros with whole foods and moving my body, both of which I'm doing well with. I've also managed to meditate 3 days this week, although only for 2 minutes each. It's better than nothing, though, so I'm happy since I've completely slacked on meditation over the past month or two. I'll try to check in a few more times before the end of this round but I make no promises with how hectic things are. I'll be back after vacation if nothing else.

09/30 - Water weight, I believe. Saturday I was severely lacking water due to an event and then there being no vendors for food or drinks (that's silly! It's hot out and an all-day event). Sunday was spent in but BF brought pizza for lunch. I took my lactose pills but probably still holding on to some bloat from that, as well. I did manage to get my water in yesterday so hopefully I'll see things start to drop off tomorrow morning assuming I can meet water goal today. Haven't heard from Coach but she said she was planning on increasing my macros this week again so hopefully I'll see those before I eat lunch. I have a meeting that goes until 1230 so my lunch will be at tad bit later than normal, but that's okay. Leftovers from yesterday so just reheating anyway. Feeling good in the gym and excited for vacation at the end of this week!
