Had a couple glasses of wine last night. Felt ok this morning, but woke up at 3:30 to pee and couldn’t get back to sleep. 🤷🏻♀️8 -
Good morning, everyone! I haven't been on this sub for a couple of years, but decided it is time to get back to moderating my drinking. Some of you that have been on this sub for a long time may remember that my husband of 32 years passed away from suicide in March 2022. Since then, I have pretty much been a daily drinker. Normally it is 2 or 3 Michelob Ultras, with the occasional excess drinking throw in. My weight has crept back up and I know the empty alcohol calories are a major contributor. I exercise regularly and eat pretty healthy so I'm not sure why I like to poison myself with alcohol!
I am going to check in here daily to hold myself accountable. Ideally, I would go completely alcohol free, but realistically that will not happen. My goal for the remainder of October is to have more AF days than A days. On the A days I am going to try and have no more than 2 standard drinks.
Thank you to all of you for sharing your AF journeys! It is good to see several of you still here!

So 40 days AF done and day 1 vacation was AF. I had Non alcoholic fuzzy rose Cruze brand Total Wine in a champagne flute and it tasted pretty good. Got take out bbq brisket made a salad, then focused on enjoying some Halloween chocolates. I focused on fun during the day, went Marble Canyon AZ and walked by the Colorado River and we hiked Cathedral Wash Trail. Originally plan last month was to drink 50 percent of vac days but I am really challenging myself this time, shooting for first AF vacation! Success day had fun with no booze imagine that.
Yesterday was easy because I prepped and kept hydrated and avoided the town along the route with the special wine I still want is sold. I am vacationing with my wine devil so I have to stay strong.
If you don't challenge yourself, you don't change.

@globalhiker your vacation sounds wonderful and are soaking all the fun in AZ with no alcohol. I think I must try that fizzy NA rose as well! You are really doing amazing.

Welcome back Breathe57103, great to see you back here!
Only one glass last night. On a Friday! Woo hoo! Today will be more because not only am I going to a tailgate at my Alma mater, we are going to the boat tonight. So, already that means at least one mimosa, maybe one glass of wine, and then I’m sure another glass on the boat. Luckily I have some of the low alcohol wine on the boat, so if I can just drink that I’m good. I think I’ll do more OJ than champagne so I can enjoy two glasses but have it really equal one. Ah, the tricks we play on our minds!
Have a good weekend everyone!6 -

Crap morning yesterday, and I lost it on my daughter in public. Her ADHD -forgetfulness just was too much for me yesterday! Hubby saw red flags when I got home and tried to settle back into work. In the afternoon, he brought flowers and wine.
I only drank from the bottle I opened on Thursday, but I contemplated opening the new bottle. Then, I decided to go to bed. Slept good, woke up with a cramp in my calf though.
Oh well… on with the day!8 -

@SunnyDays930 and I are celebrating our sober October together along with our husbands. We're on a weekend trip living the good life. Here's a photo of our delicious mocktail last night. Cheers!
Day 20 AF for me
Day 19 AF for Sunny.
Our husbands are drinking, but normal, not crazy like we would be.
I find it refreshing that I'm not planning my next drink. Usually on a trip, I start with G&T at 11:00 or at least Mimosas, and then all day I am scheming when the next drink will be. And of course, my hotel room would have had at least two bottles of wine. I'm starting to settle into this new normal.

By the way Sunny and I met on this app and this very thread a few years ago. We connected, formed a friendship that I value. We're always supportive of each other through ups and downs. @MissMay Thanks for keeping this going after all these years.9

OH my gosh Ruby and Sunny. You are on your second trip together if I recall after all these years. Enjoy my friends and be proud of your AF success and friendship you have connected to.

Checking in
AF on a Friday No problem. Now that our yearly celebratory WEEK is over, I can relax and not worry that my husband has planned alcohol related events for both of us.
2 drink days to date for October
9 ALCOHOL FREE days in the books
Let's do it ONE DAY AT A TIME

Been consistent with walking a minimum of 4 miles a day this week. Nutrition - am meeting protein, carb and calorie goals but scale is not budging yet — I know it will with consistency.
Tonight, DH and I are going to dinner with my DS and DDIL for my birthday. I think a skinny mocktail will pair well with Mexican food - thinking shrimp fajitas.
But, I am definitely having champagne and cake on Sunday and/or Monday for my 65th! Been planning ahead for that bit of indulgence.

Today was a tough emotional day for me with a couple of big triggers (coupled with not sleeping at all last night.) I stayed strong and did not drink any alcohol.
Start day 10/11/24.

@RubyRed427 and @SunnyDays930 sounds like a fun weekend and the mocktail looks delicious. Please share the recipe when you get a chance (unless it's a family secret )

@RubyRed427 and @SunnyDays930 So cool that you connected here and remain friends! Love that!
Hurricane Milton has come and gone and left it's mark on my little town and certainly the whole state. It was a crazy night of wind blowing and howling. We had my daughter, her husband, their 2 kids, my adult son, and my son-in-law and his 2 kids here until yesterday when my daughter's power was restored and they went home. SIL and kids are still here as they still don't have power and are on a well, so they also don't have water. We got our power back yesterday afternoon as well.
We are blessed beyond measure compared to so, so many. The rivers and lakes are still rising and people are still getting flooded and losing their belongings and getting property damage. We had some friends that were rescued from their neighborhood by the National Guard yesterday as the whole neighborhood was cut off by flood waters and they're expected to rise today and tomorrow. They went in and got everyone out by boat and amphibious vehicles. A tree fell on my SO's truck and my dad lost his entire roof...for the second time. He lost it during Irma about 7 years ago. My SIL was able to gather some of his friends and get it all tarped for him the day after the storm which was SUCH a blessing since he's 75 and just didn't even know where to begin. We are still suffering from a gas shortage, but that should resolve itself today or tomorrow, so we stay home and wait.
Anyway, as I stated before Milton arrived, I did not stock up on wine. I did not buy wine after. I'm keeping true to my sober October commitment...and maybe beyond. Right before my daughter went home yesterday, she said, "I just realized you didn't have a glass of wine the whole time we were here." I told them I was doing "sober October" and they thought it was cool but didn't make too big of a deal of it. I'm sure it's hard to be the adult child of someone who will clearly die of liver disease someday.
Hope everyone is doing well. I did catch up on the comments, but I can't really remember who said what. I know @Womona is loving her boat! That's awesome and seems like a fun lifestyle! Keep on keeping on my LA friends! You can't lose if you keep trying!!

@chicbuc So so happy to hear that you and your family are all safe! Sorry to hear about your father's roof and SO's truck, it's great that your SIL and her friends were able to get your dad's roof tarped so quickly.
Nice job on sticking to the sober October, it's not easy to abstain when there's such a stressful event going on - kudos to you!8 -

Overdid it last night and feel icky today - gonna try to be AF for the rest of the month. I remember being AF during Lent last year and I felt so good.9 -
Day 42 AF done, no issues. I am 99 percent relaxed, pretty good for me. Having an amazing time. Antelope Canyon X my favorite so far. Paria hoodoo hike was interesting, then we overdid it on th Fairyland loop hike in Bryce. But no crowds. At Capitol Reef area in Utah resting up before we hit more trails. I will post pix next wk. I am focusing on having a nice dinner and dessert so no feeling of deprivation. My husband though is power drinking every night. Kinda wish my husband could moderate or stop. He gets anxious and irritable after 3 beers at high altitude here then waking me up several times to complain he can't sleep. He is such a nice guy when he doesn't drink and I hope he decides to try a few vac days AF.
If you don't challenge yourself, you won't change I tell myself.
You guys are doing awesome.

Drank a little more last night than I have in the last few months so woke up feeling a little gross, but not terrible. A good workout fixed it. Probably going to be another alcohol night tonight, but I'll get back to an AF streak starting tomorrow.8 -
@chicbuc So glad to hear you are OK! I can't believe how well your doing with "Sober October". It seems like you were struggling a bit last month like I was. But, I only had 2 AF days in September 🙄
I wish I had your motivation. Any advice? I still don't have even 1 AF day this month. I don't know why? I did really well in August. But, I just can't seem to get on a roll again. I'm still hoping today will be Day 1, but I'm not sure that it will.3 -
@globalhiker You are on a roll...keep it up!4
-
@chicbuc happy to hear the update regarding your family - I love that you all rallied together to make the best of things through the incredible storm. A wonderful example of preserving together. And you stayed true to your “Sober October” goal for the month!4
