LESS Alcohol ~ OCTOBER 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

@Alatariel75 wow. Wow. WOW! Just… wow. When put that way, I’m probably similar to you. My drinking app has a place to put the cost of the drink, but I’m logging so many things right now that I’ve skipped that one. But alcohol is expensive, especially when we go out to dinner. Even my Low Alcohol wine costs the same or more than the regular wine! No surprise that my grocery budget is so high. Eye opening for sure. And horrifying!!3

Morning my less alcohol awakened wonders!
AF - 31 days
A- Never again
Ran into my brother the other day. He asked me how my joint issues have been. I have had bad joint issues that I presumed were age related. I was happy to tell him they are gone, and it was alcohol and ultra processed foods because after 31 days of no poison I have no more nagging joint issues. Simply amazing!
Cheers and be strong to live long!

6 vac days AF in a row and 45 consecutive days AF. That spell of irritability around day 30 went away. I am in a state of bliss. After a strenuous 6.5mile hike, we visited the liquor store to see what AF beverages they had and they had none! I went to the deli and found NA corona beer so had that with Mex takeout. I still like my pre-dinner AF drinking ritual. And post dinner chocolate ritual. I treated myself to Brookside brand dark chocolates. Yum.
@xbowhunter big thank you for inspiring me to try AF vacation. If it wasn't for you I would not have felt challenged to do it. Thought it was impossible.
Only a few weeks left of my 58th year. Time and quality of life including best state of mind becomes a priority. Life is indeed better on the AF side.
Today is another day to become happier and stronger in spirit and mind.11 -
@Breathe57103 and @Michieb125 Happy Birthday to you both!
@NonnieDoiron your tattoo is a work of art, very nice!

@Alateriel75 such a good point about the money saved from not drinking or drinking less. I keep a color coded spread sheet of our finances, but I've always been too afraid to add up all the alcohol expenses. In fact, I'd often put it on a credit card and then pay it off so it would show up as a CC payment instead of a liquor store payment 😬.
@NonnieDoiron love the tattoo!

Wow!! The numerous comments and contributions each day are a testament that LA and the AF life are very possible!
@chicbuc, @xbowhunter, @RubyRed427 you are rocking October with your AF choices. You are all doing outstanding and are so inspiring!
@globalhiker It is apparent that you have made AF days such a priority! Your ritual of NA drinks and chocolate in place of drink of your choice is working very well! As you prepare to say goodbye to your 58th year, I hope you are feeling proud of how far you’ve come! 💐

Hello everyone and welcome to new contributors!!!
AF streaks galore, 31 days and an entire vaca AF, YOU GUYS ROCK.
Sorry that some of you are having stress, I hope it does not linger for to long.
OK, so.... 2 days this month having alcohol. Thank goodness that first week is OVER. My husband drags out that week into a non-stop reason to party hard (for him). Glad I can now control my alcohol consumptions and not get caught up in the madness. On my flip side 14 day alcohol free.
Oh retirement has finally set in and I have embraced this fact. For now I am doing what I have promised myself for years. I am being kind to this skin and bones of a vessel I need to get around. I am not beating up my joints by trying to prove I am a hard and productive worker to a company that don't give a crap-o-la about me. Finding peace.
Reintroduced my daily workout of strength training (at 65? YUP AT SIXTY FIVE years old) The work I did for 35 years before we moved in 2022 was incredible workout. Plus on top of that I would still do weighted workouts, kick boxing and dance cardio to keep in shape to be able to do my given job.
Came across this today and it moved me- ENJOY

I like the posts on our “identify” too! I don’t think I am labeled a “drinker” by friends, but do enjoy a couple out for special occasions with girlfriends.
And, I know my family has seen me pair down my wine consumption over the past two years.
I think I currently spend about $40.00 a week on wine. But I’ll have to pay more attention.
So who am I??? I am retired again (July), have a love of adventure, exercising outdoors, yoga and Pilates classes, traveling near and far, gardening, cooking for holidays, and a quest for health and wellness. My faith has also carried me all the days of my life.
I am looking to add in a new hobby soon!
Keep on keeping on!!

Wow. That is amazing!!!! I’ve heard there are lots of inflammatory properties to alcohol, not to mention ultra high processed foods. So glad your joints are happy again!

@MissMay, so you’re retired retired???? So happy for you, I know the last two jobs since you’ve moved haven’t been good. Enjoy time to care for yourself! Strength training for the win! Our 85 year old bodies will be happy.
@Michieb125 i love your “who I am” statement!

Thanks all for the compliments on my tattoo.
My daughter has been sick for a week now, and they just now gave her antibiotics. She’s been out of school all week and won’t be going back until Monday. My MIL has been driving her nuts because she won’t let her sleep in. I hate that for her because I know all she wants to do is sleep. She always goes back to bed as soon as she can.
No wine in the house. Didn’t walk today because of taking my daughter to the doctor. My hips hurt. I guess I’m going to have to start taking my arthritis medicine twice a day.5 -
TOM today kicked my butt! I actually had to call out of work, it was so bad with cramps and nausea. This never happens. Ah, the joys of peri-menopause.
I had half a glass of my LA wine, so yes technically it’s not an AF day but pretty damn close.
Off to bed with a heating pad and Advil. Tomorrow is another day!4 -
@SurferGirl1982 ....HAPPY 17TH TINKER !! 🥳🎂 ...CATPUCCINO4

My weight was the lowest it's been in over a year, so there's that. It's not low, per se, and I've been so so so lazy, but I'll take it.

@MissMay What a relief to be officially retired. You've worked so hard; you deserve to spend each day doing exactly what you want to do.
Congrats @chicbuc - you rock!
Congrts @globalhiker Congrats on your AF vacation.
A few years ago, I spent a week alone at a beach vacation. It was during my sober 9 month period. I would take myself out and eat at the bar, ordering peel and eat shrimp, a club soda and some key lime pie. I truly didn't miss the alcohol. While walking on the beach one morning, I saw lovely 75 years old woman walking.. she said out of the blue "I'm sober and I'm training for a many mile walk in Spain." It was out of the blue that she said "I'm sober." She was so fit and in shape and didn't look her age. We chatted and then went on our way. I never forgot her and our meaningful conversation.

@RubyRed427 I wonder if she was training for the Camino de Santiago. I've always wanted to do that.

Yes @womona and @RubyRed427 I am retired/retired. I tried doing jobs down here I "thought" I would enjoy.
The curse of owning my own business for 35 years set my expectations of my bosses very high, and they didn't meet up to my standards.
I was driving myself crazy to "keep busy" during the day at jobs that were giving me stress.
I suppose now my full time job is helping folks have LESS alcohol in their lives. That gives me satisfaction.

That’s fantastic! I’m sure a lot of it has to do with cutting way the hell back on alcohol. Yes, absolutely take the win when and where you can!
I’ve been trying to lose those last 5-10 pounds for well over a year. The scale is starting to budge with committing to drinking less than I normally do, and being disciplined with nutrition and macros. Walking seems to help me a lot, and I’m still strength training twice a week.7 -
Good morning LA friends. Can I just tell you? I really love this group. Everyone is so encouraging, and even though we’ve never met in person, I love the camaraderie.
Have a great day!9 -
So proud of everyone's progress. It's truly inspiring!

I had an emotional day and finally said what the heck I should have a beer. I had one Michelob Ultra. It didn't taste refreshing, and it didn't improve my mood. Stopping at one was a victory. Onward to more AF days.
Start day 10/11/24.

Everyone on here is doing such a great job with their less alcohol quests. It is very motivational!11 -

I agree!! Right now, the highlight of my morning is checking this group and checking in with my progress...or lack of it.
You all rock and I'm so grateful for each of you!7 -

Thank you all for the support for my partner! We are heading into the first AF weekend, and that's unchartered territory.
Thank you for this group, I know I'm not good at keeping up with other's achievements, and I feel a bit selfish, but I really do get a lot of support and comfort from reading all your posts.8 -
@Alatariel75 Weekends can be hard. This weekend, you'll have so much time on your hands, plan some fun activities that are not where people are drinking.. Keep busy, exercise, eat some delicious treats, go to a coffee shop, just fill that time with fun things!6
-
Weekends are rough for sure! Plan a few non alcoholic activities even if it's just watching a movie before bed or IN bed. Plan whatever will help you not want to drink. Good luck!
My SO works on the weekends, and I found it gave me an excuse to pop the cork at noon and chill, so I started going to church a few months ago with my dad, brother, and sister (and all of her crew...nieces, nepehews, great nieces and great nephews). It rejuvenates me and renews my spirit for the week and allows me to visit my family more regularly when I was only seeing them once every couple of months.

Day 48 AF is here. 2 hiking days planned at Zion. It has been raining hard on and off but I slept amazing. If any of you ever travel to Southern Utah, I highly recommend the Burr Trail. We drove on a paved road inside an otherworldly red canyon that went on for miles. For dinner I had an ice cold Corona NA with Mex takeout and it was good. 3 vac days left and I won't have alcohol because in the past that's how I rewarded myself and since I need to break that pattern, I will have to reward myself with something better. Hey, a hiking trip to Switzerland and Northern Italy can be my reward and is now affordable with all the wine savings. That will be my reward for not drinking!!!!
Hope you all have a great NA or LA day 😊😊9 -
