Oh I am sorry for your loss! It sounds like you were close. Such a wonderful long marriage.
My last living sister died in June.

Still struggling with my sister's death. Was a quiet Thanksgiving with just hubby and myself. Decided to go out for supper yesterday to a local restaurant and had a fabulous turkey meal. Didn't feel like cooking a turkey myself but certainly enjoyed the meal. The local restaurant is like a truck stop....nothing fancy...but serves very good meals.

Finished the last of my tomato sauce and have a lot of 2 cup portions frozen in the freezer.

Doing some house cleaning over the next few days as have to tackle windows inside and out again. Cooling off and leaves are all that wonderful fall color now. Looks so pretty here.

Oh, windows! I need to work on that so I won’t be looking at dirt all winter. Going away again to visit family for a couple of days so all the fall chores are getting squeezed in Willy nilly. Managed to plant garlic and clean some garden beds in between bouts of rain. Everything else will have to wait till the end of the month.
Glad you treated yourself to someone else’s cooking! You have been in a rough patch for sure.

Enjoy your time away. Started on inside windows yesterday and will tackle outside on Saturday as it is going to be a bit warmer before we get into colder days. Predicting flurries on Monday....yikes!

Off to the dentist this morning then will stop at the drug store for annual flu shot. Have to give them a call first to make sure it is available as it is supposed to be the first day of flu immunizations. Heard on the news that not all drug stores have available vaccine yet.

    Enjoy your day.

Suitcase mostly packed, just a few little things to do in the morning. Bringing local apples and cheese to Virginia.
    Good luck on the shot!

Got my flu shot yesterday. Drug store wasn't busy at all. We were the only ones there so were in and out quickly. Lots of seniors live in the town so quite surprised that it wasn't busy. It was the first day of the flu vaccines so maybe interest will improve. Sore arm today so not planning on doing too much.

    Enjoy your family time!

Just finding this group. I'm over 70 and found that milestone difficult. I need to improve blood sugar numbers and I struggle with self-sabotage....will lose a few pounds, get to a weight lower than I've been in awhile, then treat myself and gain back the pounds. Therefore, what helps you maintain motivation and believe that you can really keep going down to a healthier weight? (Reading this back, I realize that perhaps I'm too focused on the numbers. Need to be aware of blood sugar, but maybe give the scale a rest.d

Welcome, svatekdc! So much to negotiate in this age period. I find logging every day helps, even if I am not totally accurate all the time. Just knowing I have to think about logging keeps me from going off the deep end most days. But I don’t weigh every day.
Not doing great on this family vacation, though!

It's harder to keep on track when on vacation for sure. I'm sure you are enjoying your time away.

Welcome svatekdc...so nice to see you join in. I weigh daily.

Got my windows done and now slowly getting back to decluttering. Have sorted through a few more items and have them set aside for the dump and donation bins tomorrow. Tonight is Chinese food at our neighbors home tonight. Looking forward to a nice visit with them.

Nice vacation, long car ride, glad to be home. Now to get some rest and get back on track. What is it about family having dessert every day? I bet that doesn’t happen when we aren’t there.
    Great job on decluttering!

Had such a nice evening yesterday visiting with our friends/neighbors. Haven't seen them for awhile as it was a busy summer and time seems to just fly by. Need to be more mindful and take the time for getting together. So good for mental health.

Didn't make my mini goal of getting down to 179 by the end of the month as still sitting at 182. Seem to be stuck on that number. Didn't weigh this morning as I know there will be an increase due to salty Chinese food meal. Off to the dump this morning with my bags and will stop at the donation bin with some clothing bags. Starting to make a dent on my basement clutter and just concentrating on the bins I have down there of unused clothing and old sheets/blankets/quilts/tablecloths....etc. Will be nice when all that is dealt with and then on to the next section.

    Enjoy the day.

Long walk in a park today, enjoying the leaves. First day of early voting. Did better with food.
In between books, need to pick a new one.

I just discovered this group, too. I have been on MFP for 10 years, but have been intermittent. I’m sad that the news feed went away. I will turn 72 next month and have finally reached a point where I have to get the weight off, as it has had an affect on my health. I am four days into my first week taking semaglutide. Will be on the low dose for a month and then we will evaluate how it’s going. No nausea, but also no urge to munch all the time. What I’m wanting is to get the weight off so I am able to walk distances again, and reduce blood pressure and body aches. Anyway, it’s good to find others my age to go through this with.

ljashley1952 Welcome to our group. Hope you will stop in and let us know how you are doing on your weight loss journey.

Looking at travel plans for my trip next year. Was looking at a Quebec escorted tour but it is so expensive. Still undecided but may book a trip with Trafalgar. They have a sale on I think until the end of November with 10% off their tours in Europe. May do a 10 day Scandinavian Capital tour (Denmark, Noway, Sweden and Finland). I checked with Costco Travel and they offer an additional 10% off. Put in a request with my travel agent and waiting to hear back from her before I decide.

Ljashley1952, I miss the news feed too!!! It always helped to share my log in numbers. Please hang around a bit here. It’s good to share with people our own age. Hope you can make progress enough to feel better.
Missed my walk today—fatigued for some reason, but must get back into a routine.
Next traveling plans are just a glimmer for me. Right now I want routine and my own bed for a bit.

Oceanmelody, I'll definitely check-in here. It would be nice to see more activity. They don't make it very easy to have a group and make comments under a single thread, like other social media. FB has some semaglutide groups, but not specifically for seniors over 65-70. It makes a difference. Our needs are different than younger dieters and those on the meds. I'm in the US, but I have a son who married an English woman, and they live there. So I was able to go see them a couple of years ago. They are coming next year for Thanksgiving and I'm hoping to be able to go over again in 2026. I was swamped yesterday and I'm achy today, so I've spent the day poking around online and watching football.

3300 days of logging. Not getting on the scale yet from vacation but have picked up the walking.
I wish I could get to England again! So much to see.

Very good on the logging. Been busy the last couple of days. My sister's memorial service is on Saturday. Will be a sad day and I have to admit, I will be glad when it is over with. Son is arriving from eastern Canada on Friday and will stay for 4 days to visit which will be nice.

Had blood work done a couple of days ago as part of annual check up. I've reviewed the results on line and cholesterol levels are elevated along with thyroid (tsh). Everything else looks good. Have a doctor phone consult on Friday and will see if he agrees to increase my thyroid med (synthroid) as that will lower the cholesterol levels. I'm sure that will help with my weight loss as I feel I'm retaining fluids. I have hashimotoes disease and sometimes the synthroid medication needs adjusting.

Nice sunny, cool day today. Did grocery shopping this morning and everything is now put away. Time to relax a bit.

Beautiful sunny day here. Walked again and did some garden cleanup.
Blood work. It seems to tell you everything. I hope they can find a med combo to help.

Sorry haven't been posting much lately. Will be getting back to a more normal routine mid-week.

Celebration of life for my sister this afternoon so will be on the road in a bit. Foggy this morning so hoping that clears before we have to leave (2 hour drive).

Doctor phoned me yesterday to go over my blood test results. AC1 is over 6 so that puts me in pre-diabetic range which is not good. Cholesterol levels are high but I know will go down as it is linked to TSH which is also high. He is increasing my thyroid med and that will help. Need to get this weight off as I'm sure that is contributing to the AC1 levels. Dr said to watch sugar in my diet. So much added sugar in foods we eat.....so I am now watching out for added sugar along with calorie counting.

You are right about sugar as it does seem to be in everything.Losing weight helped my husband’s numbers, and he gave up a lot but not all sugar.

Wonderful memorial yesterday for my sister with about 80 people attending. Now visiting with my son at home before he returns to eastern Canada on Tuesday.

Had spaghetti and meatballs for supper tonight along with my homemade sauce....was delicious. Was mindful of serving size so stayed within my calorie count.

    Just found this group.
I am 71 and have been on and off MFP for years. I lost 25 pounds for knee replacement surgery and gained it back in a year. Now I need to drop 30 pounds.
My husband and I are selling our house and moving to a much smaller place in a retirement community. I have been decluttering for 6 weeks. Now I am frantically packing. Movers come on Friday! I am a wreck, totally exhausted, and eating everything in sight. Once this move is over, I will get back to tracking calories and exercising and trying to be nice 😂.

Welcome, titus2cat! You have a lot going on!
Scale did not like me this morning—hope I can lose what I gained last week. Always such a struggle!

titus2cat Welcome to our little group. Such an exciting and probably exhausting time for you. I have been slowly decluttering for awhile now but just working on one certain area at a time. We have been in our home for 50+ years so have accumulated quite a bit.

Enjoying the last day with son visiting and he will be heading to the airport (2 hour drive) tomorrow. Flight doesn't leave until 1:30 in the afternoon but we are under a weather alert so I'm sure he will get on the road a bit early. Supposed to be freezing rain overnight followed by about 2 cm of snow. Roads may be icey.

Looking at investing in a treadmill. Researching some models. Don't need all the bells and whistles but want one that is stable with at least a 20 inch wide platform. One company has given me a quote and is willing to deliver and install which is good. It has to be set up in the basement so there is no way my hubby and I can get it down there ourselves. Not ready to commit yet as I want to give it more thought.

Thank you for the welcome and the encouragement. I go by Cat. I got much done today. Two trips to donation centers and one to the dump. I drive a big van due to babysitting grands, and i filled it to capacity! We are still keeping too much stuff. What do you do with a husband who doesnt want to get rid of anything?

It has taken me years to get hubby to make a dent in his pile of stuff! He finally decided he wanted his tools better organized and that set off a flurry of activity.

Cat, I also have 30 pounds to get off and I'm hoping to be out of pre diabetic range. Since the increase in my synthroid, I have dropped 2 lbs and don't feel as puffed up anymore which is good.

oceanmelody Good to have the hubby on board, I'm sure.

Son has left for the airport and we didn't get the rain/snow event that was predicted. Hopefully it will be clear highways all the way to the airport for him. Such a nice visit and as always, sad to see him go.

Still trying to decide on my treadmill model but have decided on the company I will be dealing with. Will probably order it in the next couple of days.

I had to get rid of my treadmill and elliptical machine due to a drastic downsize with the move. Kept the bike because it takes up less space. We are moving from a mountain house with wooded property to a walkable neighborhood in town. The elliptical machine was my exercise of choice, but I hope to replace that with walking outdoors now. We will also be walking distance to an aquatic center, so if I can find a swimsuit that doesnt creep me out 😂 maybe I will start water aerobics.
What is your exercise of choice?
  • oceanmelody
    oceanmelody Posts: 476 Member
I like hiking and bicycling. Now that the weather is cooler I need to find a replacement for the bike. Not fond of exercise machines. Maybe I should try an occasional swim?
