Terri - Thank you, this house is honestly the dream we both carried around long before we met! That place to wander and to dream and to play, and to put our own stamp on it. Houses in the U.S. seem to have become merely income-generators, so people are asking themselves "What can we do to the house that would help it sell for more money?" We've approached it as, "What can we do that we will enjoy for years to come?" We stepped out of the norm.
Thank you to everyone for your comments on the house. As many of you know, I moved for 30 straight years, living in more than 35 places before this house, so that's a big part of how much I love it.
Heather - I'm so grateful I've been able to help him with this job. Corey built the entire sunroom on his own; I was unable for that entire year to muster up enough energy to work even for a few hours, much less for an entire day. All I could do was order stuff online and get it delivered so he could do what needed doing. This time, I was able to move and bend and stoop and paint for hours. I don't take it for granted, that stamina, I know it can be lost easily.
Not to get on my soapbox, but this is why I always say that comparative pain is a losing game. It's one of the reasons I think that we as a group work so well - because we're all old enough to know that this is not a competition. It works on the other side of the comparison as well.
I can and do, marvel at Pip and Heather and Machka's exercise and fitness activities, and am so glad for them, while not envying it at all - I'm comparing only to myself. Did I move a little more than yesterday? Did doing a given movement (like putting on my socks! 😛) hurt me less than yesterday? What works for me is what's most important for my own health.
Their journeys are inspirational as all get out--but it doesn't bother me that I don't do as much as they do today... it only bothers me when I know I'm doing less than I can do to feel better, to be healthier. I use their fitness levels as a goal, not as a report card by which I am judging myself or anyone else.
OK - Stepped down, back to being 5 foot 1 and 3/4" inches again...

Lisa, I agree with you about not making comparisons with anyone else. Along with that, one of my other beliefs is "what's fun for other people may not be fun for me, and vise versa." Sometimes I read about what others have been doing and think how grateful I am that I don't have to be doing that.Carol, your tree is awesome. We have lovely colors here so I don't have to envy people who travel to New England to see the fall colors. For two years we lived in a neighbourhood that routinely had about 400 trick or treaters each year. I loved it. Now we live in a neighbourhood that gets no trick or treaters and I love that even more. Time now to head off to walk the dogs until they get cold or bored and then walk by myself for about 90 minutes. I love walking by myself in the dark.

I have a low-end BEATS headphones. I had ordered a different set from Amazon for Christmas last year that were less expensive, but for some odd reason, Amazon sent me the ones I really wanted. They work great and are really comfortable. I can’t wear air buds either, they never stay in no matter how small.
Transferring phones out of state The hospital I worked at in TN did the same thing. So did this campground for reservations. It really isn’t beneficial to the people who need to use this out of state/country help desk service. For the campground, they are closed on Saturday and Sunday so no phone call reservations those days. They all come to me. For the hospital. It was horrible. People all over the hospital complained and would just ask for one of us personally who they knew worked in that department. No one liked it at all. But, the hospital found it more ‘economical’ for them and people simply wouldn’t call for help so turned into less calls to deal with overall. The hospital benefited financially but not by customer or employee satisfaction which suffered. At the campground, I get more people coming to me because they couldn’t make a reservation by phone because they were closed or couldn’t help them, or the help desk told the camper to talk to the people at the campground. Of course, that means me b/c our ‘employees’ are no where to be found. At that, if a camper calls the campground directly with a camping question, more often than not the ‘employee’ tells them to go see me. Makes me wonder what will happen when we move to a house out of the campground and are not here to help anymore????

I did get a call back this morning on the job I applied for. Did a phone interview and she is sending my information to the office here and they will contact me by the end of the week. Mean while today just sitting here as everything has been forwarded. Going to be a long day. Tomorrow I have ordered pizza for my staff and having a little department party.
I usually get some candy for Halloween as the grandchildren stop by to show me their dress up and my one grandson likes broccoli so we get him a bag of frozen broccoli.

Barbara my to do pile goes down then something new gets added. LOL
I did get the two big paperwork projects I needed to do. One required a letter and the other a form with documentation. Fortunately I had the documentation thanks to putting one piece in an e-mail that was easy to look up and the other piece in a box I put like documents. Of course it was in the bottom of that pile. I did some organizing of the box while everything was out. I send them registered mail yesterday. I figured I did all that work I wanted to make sure they got where they needed to go. Now I can just let those two things on the list go and see what the results will be.
Pile is much more manageable now...Hope to get into the attic today and clear a bit more out. Nothing goes in there anymore and the goal is within a year or two it in empty. I will need it cleared if I ever decide to sell the house.

I just found out yesterday that the first round of the District Championships for high school volleyball is going to be on Whidbey Island! So my team is traveling to Coupeville in a couple weeks to play Orcas Island High School.
I don’t get to Whidbey much—do you know if the Mukilteo ferry is the best bet and then once on Whidbey, how far of a drive is it to Coupeville?

Oh how cool! The Mukilteo ferry to Clinton Wa, then traveling up he island to Coupville is only 30 to 35 minutes. With the ferry ride though its 1 hour, 6 min, it states. I am on the other end of Whidbey in Oak Harbor. There is a great pizza place off Hwy 20. 😁👍🏼

Thanks Rebecca! We will be coming from Bellevue so planning on leaving around 11:45 to catch the 1pm ferry. That should put us at the school an hour before game time. We get put to the front of the ferry line since we are a school bus.3

John , very unusually, went out for a drive this afternoon. The car normally sits outside our house for months on end, apart from going to cricket in the summer. He gets in it occasionally and runs it for twenty minutes or so to keep the battery going.
He went along the coast road to Seaford, where he stopped for a walk on the beach. That road was so familiar to me when I was a young child, as my grandparents lived in Saltdean for a few years. It brought it all back.
I chatted to G about it.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the day my ex and I finally decided to split up. We were on a weekend course for couples.
Later, I regretted suggesting that decision. I cried so much for years. It was agony.
But we had tried. And tried. And tried. We were worn out. We were not enough for each other, and we hadn't healed enough from our damaged childhoods.
If we had hung on..........? Who knows. He married again and had two more children.
Now his health is severely compromised, and I am happy with John. But the mind cannot help going to 'What if.....?'
I dream about him regularly.
It does not seem as if 30 years have passed.

Today Tracy,Delia and I ran a couple errands so it was a busy day.. and I got a few Christmas presents for Delia
And on the way home I stopped and voted early.
Alfie is under the covers, will have to put his sweater on him soon...
Will have to get some groceries in the house soon.
But im telling you ,there was food everywhere on the cruise and I wasn't even tempted.

Poor guy was up 1/2 the night..Josie gave him cider,he only drinks water or milk.. he had massive blowouts and rash everywhere.. Tracy had to change him,the bedding,and all ,which set Delia off,so they didn't get much sleep..

Allie - thank you so much for the input on WellCare. Good to know their drug prices are reasonable.
Carol - yes, my DH was raised Catholic. Altar boy, parochial school up to grade 9. When he went to public high school, he got in with a rough crowd and things changed. I never knew him to attend any church after that. He said the roof would cave in if he stepped inside one.
He often said the Marines saved him.
The WellCare I'm looking at is for Part D prescription drug coverage only since I'm on "original Medicare" and need to also purchase a supplemental "Medigap" policy. And my own vision and dental insurance if desired.
Seems like there are dozens of different Medicare plans and they vary a lot from state to state and even county to county as Barbara pointed out. Premiums, co-pays, coverage and deductibles vary widely. It can make your head swim. My advice: if questions, talk to an independent insurance broker if you can find one, let them do the homework and don't make a decision based on TV ads.
Lisa - love your attitude about making the house what serves you and Corey, not for potential resale. You have done a wonderful job - you were a little quiet this past weekend, I figured you guys were up to something.
Vicki - so nice of you to have a little farewell department party with your staff. I'm not surprised you got a phone interview already. Dedicated, experienced employees like yourself are hard to find these days. Hope it's a job you'd like, if they offer it to you, and give you good compensation and some bennies. And less stressful than the hospital job with the staff turnover you were always dealing with.
Rita - agree 100%. Customer service will slide with the phone answering taking place out of state. You gave perfect examples of what happened at the hospital you worked at in TN and the current problems at the campground. Makes it hard for everyone.
Margaret - beautiful flowers, so glad you are still getting nice blooms this time of year.
I'm having a break in the weather right now so heading out to gather up more leaves. The end is in sight.

Today’s gratitude: Vet thought the spot on Tumble’s forepaw was either a cyst or caused by a foreign object, not a serious concern unless it grows back.
Part D for 2025 – Changing plans saves us $1150, worth the three hours invested.Signed Joe up for Cigna Saver Part D with zero premium and copay for his blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. His eyedrops aren’t in anyone’s formulary so we’ll continue to get from the compounding pharmacy. My preferred pharmacy (Fred Meyer) is out of his network so I signed up with WellCare, also zero premium/drug cost for tier 1 generics. Could the insurance companies be making it more complicated than it needs to be? To discourage comparison and changing carriers? :noway:Lands End catalog came with my favorite color turtleneck. Was going to reward myself for this morning’s battles, but Ack. It’s clingy cotton/modal blend. :sick: Saved myself some more $$ :{

Decluttering challenge Day 37/3037-While purging all the “progress” pics from my phone I realized how good it made me feel to accomplish, how proud I am that the kitchen counters, potting and keyboard have stayed clear for over a month.Got through pg 25 when the dogs told me “It’s tummy time!!!”

Well my insurance agent that helped me get insurance when I went off Toms insurance,has helped me along the way so very much..because im on disability
with alimony ,im considered low income
..so when I turn 65 I will get medicare d and she will help me with that.

I’m going to work tomorrow at BK. I know that the asst mgr is still tired, getting her strength back. It works for me since we have a zoom meeting for the budget for the condo Thurs a.m. and I have fasting blood work on Fri. This way I’ll be sort-of caught up. I’m planning to go to the gym tomorrow after work since I probably won’t be there (BK) very long.
Went to Big Lots and got two Christmas stockings. We’ll need 7 new ones for the cats and Jess’ dog. Oh, she’s going to a conference next week and couldn’t find anyone to take care of her menagerie so guess who is? This should be interesting...6 kittens and a dog.
I much prefer not to take a medication unless I absolutely have to. I guess my father was the same way. Now Vince on the other hand….I can’t even start to list his medications. When his mother passed, she was on 10 different medications. My father was on 5. I really believe in exercise and good eating.

Lisa – I’m in awe of everything you’ve done to the house. Do you have pictures of it when you first bought it? I’m sure you posted them, when was it that you bought the house?
Vince actually got the other bedroom door prepped and ready for sanding. He commented how this door will be much less work since it wasn’t as bad. I just thought to myself “the other one wouldn’t have gotten so bad if you’d fixed it when I first mentioned it when it started and not waited” but I held my tongue
The other day it was dark when I started to take my walk. It IS very nice, so quiet.
Lanette – we always joked that when my aunt died it was her way of doing anything to get my one cousin into church….lol

Had ceramics tonight. They had a party for those whose birthdays were in Sept. and Oct. When they have these, I should probably have even less for dinner.

Well Teddy had a streak of eight years with no accidents in the house. And he really did try to tell me. He woke me up at one, and we went out. Then he woke me up at two, and I didn't believe him. So he finally went in the corner of my bedroom. I wonder if this is the beginning of an old age thing for him. But that is borrowing trouble.

Hello Everyone, I needed some mental health days, and I only worked one day. That mom had gone home. I was given a 14-year-old who had a bad attitude. His friend was intubated in the PICU. I guess they stole one of their parent's cars while drinking and getting high, and the other took other drugs. They crashed and had to get helicoptered in. He was agitated and cursed me out with F words and didn't want any of his medication. The mom didn't correct him. His brother did correct his behavior. Then, the mom yelled at me for holding his arm down. I explained that his IV needed retaping. So, I opened his arm to see what needed to be done. I am glad that I had someone in there with me. She explained to the mom that I wasn't holding his arm down. This young man said that he didn't like my F'n A**. I was so glad I wasn't back to care for them again. The attending was mad when I texted him that they refused X-rays. This ticked him off, and he went straight to the room and talked to them. Then he told them to do what they needed to get them out. I have not heard the F-word so much in my life. I had to remind him that it was a children's hospital and stop using that language. I ate about it and had 1375 calls on Monday. Most of it was eaten in the morning.
Lisa, you and Corey did a great job on the house. Your grandson is so cute.

Michelle, since the respiratory place I started with has closed, the other place is hard to contact for supplies. I was going to ask my doctor for a new place. Usually, I clean my equipment, but I let time go by, and it has been since June. I purchased new equipment from Amazon. All have arrived today. I have two of everything I need. This is a new machine. Someone suggested a machine cleaner. Excellent suggestion. I will purchase that, too.
Vickie, check the job listing on AARP; there are some jobs in Grand Island, NE, where you can work from home.
Heather, I have dreamed of my ex many times and gone through the what-ifs because he was my first love, and I never had closure. Maybe that is true for you, too.
Barbara, get something with Cashmere at Lands End if they have 40% off. I saw a cashmere wrap from this place called OVCIO. I love soft material to snuggle in.
I am going to bed now. I am up at 0430. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow.
