    October 22 sleep.

Finally a good sold 8 hours with a nice deep sleep. I’m still dreaming a lot though. None of the dreams make sense.

    October 23rd, Meals.

I was a little over my calories. I really wanted ice cream so I ate a little more often but stayed in low carb mode.

Ha ha - “need more coffee”! I misread what you said about wanting ice cream, so I skimmed your food log 3X trying to find out which low-carb ice cream you had eaten until reading comprehension kicked in: you wanted ice cream, but just ate more (non-frozen) low-carb food… Ai yi yi!!!
Caffeinating myself before I roll out on my morning errands: the feed store being Job 1. Lots to do, gotta prioritize if I have any hope of showing my face at this afternoon’s memorial meet-up at the pub. I downgraded my acupuncture sessions (they sell ya on their monthly plans which discounts the cost) from twice weekly to once weekly bcz it’s just too much driving. Yesterday I had to drive to their Plano clinic (a little over an hour away, no way to avoid the traffic) for my half-hour sesh. Cost-benefit analysis is a net loss, even though I credit the acupuncture for my improved sleep.
Haven’t heard anything from Z, nor seen any social media posts, so I presume “no news is good news” - hope they are having a great trip, making memories to last a lifetime! Even though the marriage didn’t last, Z’s dad & I had a fun Spring Break trip after we were engaged (whirlwind romance, brief engagement, accelerated timeline to wedding since I was preparing to start vet school - my poor mom got SO tired of telling her friends no I was NOT pregnant!!!), and a beautiful if all-too-brief week-long honeymoon hiking at Big Bend National Park.

I understand not reading something properly. I’ve done that a few times me. Reading what you wrote got me thinking how I could turn a protein shake, low carb, into ice cream. I’ll let you know if it works.

    October 24th.
I had a busy day today. I did eat brunch before I left for the day and didn’t eat supper until I got home. Stayed within calories and low carb. I avoided buy anything sweet

I’m not sure how I managed to do it but I don’t but I got over 10,000 steps done too.

Well as it wound up, I didn’t haul across town to go to Tim’s memorial service. I was tired after coaxing my mom into a long-overdue shower, just couldn’t bear the thought of bucking more traffic than I had to (I went over to Zach & Victoria‘s to feed the cats)
191.6 this morning as I continue to tell myself “Progress not perfection!” - I skimmed an interesting discussion by Dr. Eades (I subscribe to his newsletter) about omega-6 versus omega-3’s and how the omega-6’s activate our endocannabinoid system: in other words, junk foods are truly addictive! (Duh!) I‘ll throw in a link…

Zach called me from paradise last night - FaceTiming me on a tour of their beautiful hotel. He wants us to all go back for a big family vacation - sure thing mijo! I’m certainly down for that - it will be my husband & Victoria‘s grandfather who might be the hard sells?

And here’s Wednesday night’s sleep - Dr. Eades also has a another discussion about poor sleep raising cortisol levels: in other words, throwing a monkey wrench in one’s fat burning plan! No doubt in my mind about that metabolic connection either…

    October 25th Meals

Stayed under calories. I woke this morning with everything hurting. It was cold and raining here so all the arthritis was affected. Didn’t feel like doing anything, especially cooking.

I’m glad you got a decent night’s sleep - usually it’s a relaxing signal to me when I can shut off my alarm…
I can’t believe I’m sitting here this morning nursing a slight headache when I had one generous glass of wine last night!?! Obviously my body doesn’t appreciate any of the sweet varieties anymore (gonna go make a blog post about it) - I haven’t been able to drink white wine for several years, but most of the time I can tolerate a nice Malbec or Cab as a civilized accompaniment to a good dinner (maybe because last night wasn’t a good dinner, ha ha? I’ve got to go blog about this; we were at a friend’s for her daughter‘s 21st birthday). Just gives more proof to the theory that alcohol is literally poison! I had a nice ride with an old friend yesterday and she talked about her struggles with sobriety - it’ll wreck your health for sure…
At least I had good news with the scales settling at 190 - anxious to get below this next threshold
    1liveh60liac.jpeg
Thankfully, I didn’t consume enough alcohol to have dysregulated sleep - and lemme tell ya, that last little sliver of deep sleep right before I woke up was sheer bliss!

I envy your ability to get a good nights sleep.

I eat according to my blood type when it comes to food choices and eat the low carb version of that. I found that all alcohol except red wine is bad for me. I then went on a quest to find a red wine that I liked and would not give me a headache. I didn’t have any luck so I emailed a friend who is much better educated in wine than I am and he gave me a few suggestions. One of those suggestions worked very well. I really like the wine and it doesn’t give me a headache. This is the one I drink.

Maybe it would work for you if you like red wine.

Thanks for the wine recommendation - but yes, a semi-dry red seems to be all I can tolerate these days.
I credit the acupuncture for improved sleep - the acupuncturist was asking me today about my other symptoms. Hard to say if it’s done much for overall energy (maybe?), I’m still short of breath & aggravated with myself for not having the stamina to do all that I’d like to do…
I’m going to continue, but downgrading to once-a-week sessions since it’s just too complicated for me to get up there twice a week. It’s such a contrast between practitioners: I can barely feel it when Maria places a needle, but usually feel a “thrum” of energy in different spots. My first session, I felt it going up my arm - today, it was around my R scapula. It’s a good excuse to lie still, listen to calming music & meditate (yes, I know I could do the same at home) I’ll file it under “self-care” 😉

And when I was at my son’s last week, I paged through their new keto cookbook - took screenshots of a couple of recipes that caught my eye. “The Woman Who Loves Cookbooks but Spends Precious Little Time in the Kitchen”
I have refused to pay $20/lb for ribeye**, but maybe I can find flank steak at a more reasonable price
** if I’m going to pay that much, I’d just as soon go to our local BBQ place which will cook & serve it to me, with baked potato & salad for $27. And I don’t have to do the dishes!

I went ahead and splurged last night as I had to run into town to get cream for my coffee and bought a 2 pound flank steak for that Italian recipe, 2 ribeyes, 2 packs of sausage & a big family pack of bacon. Before I knew it I had spent 100 bucks! but I also bought a big bag of Halloween candy to put out for clients and a double pack of cookie dough for Kristy…
Sleep was fair (I think my Fitbit scored me at 78), but I hate it when I fall into a deep sleep right before the alarm goes off! At least I know the Fitbit can accurately measure REM sleep: I was having a elaborate dream about Zach having some sort of decathlon-like amateur competition with his friends; he was just getting ready to sprint when my alarm went off!

    Your dream is interesting.

I was dreaming too. I dreamt my son’s dog attacked in my sleep but not viciously. More like annoyingly. Like a puppy trying to play while I slept.

Hmmm, while last night’s sleep felt much more restful, my Fitbit only graded me at 75 - “Fair”. I don’t know the parameters for scoring, but I would think it’s overall time awake compared to the amount of time in deep & REM sleep?
39 min awake Mon vs 1 hr 13 min Tues
2 hrs 43 min deep/REM on Mon vs 3 hrs 20 min Tues
Main difference is last night I had Izzy who helps me sleep because I don’t toss & turn as much out of fear of disturbing her rest! Ha ha!
And while I was hoping to see some progress on the scale since I went full carnivore last night with a small ribeye when I cooked all that meat, nothing has changed yet. (Confession: I took my girls out for a Taco Tuesday lunch yesterday, I think it was good for morale!)

My sleep still sucks. Fitbit says there were 2 sessions but I still only managed 6hrs and 49 min. Most of it in light sleep. That seems to be the reason for my dreaming. My brain is too active.

Whelp I overslept last night - even though my sleep score was an 88, I got up with a dull headache. Sipping my coffee and trying to shake it off, got a lot to get done today!
