Another busy Tuesday with a few extra tasks thrown in. I've got a student coming in an hour before class for some extra help, and I need to stop and cast my vote on my way home. I don't think I'll get a walk in, and logging will be a challenge. Today I turn 65, so I'll finish up the day having dinner out with my husband and daughter :)

    Recap - Monday 11/4
    Log - :)
    Healthy choices - :)
    Hydrate - :)
Walk? - No. Felt dizzy, maybe from too little sleep, so I took a nap after class. Then lost the rest of the afternoon waiting for the fireplace repairman who didn't show :(
    Chores - :)
    Prep/Grading - A bit
    Relax - :)
    Sleep - Fair

    JFT Tuesday 11/5
    Log what I can
    Healthy choices
    Hydrate
    Print drafts
    Vote
    Dinner out
    Prep/Grading
Relax - DON'T stay up all night watching election returns!!!
    Sleep

Jut got back from vacation yesterday .

We had a wonderful time. and now I am sad as I came home to snow and grey skies. Ugh.

The weather in Florida was perfect , 80-85 degrees everyday, and often times a breeze. The ocean was a bit rough and lots of rip tides so we didn't get to swim too much in the ocean. I did inadvertently body surf in a very ungraceful way one time, but only because as I was wading out there, and the giant wave knocked me down and pushed me into shore. I might have a future in the sport. It looks like I had a gain of about 1.6 lbs while on the trip, so not terrible.

Hope everyone is doing good and I will do my best to catch up but work is nuts and I am way behind..

@HappyDonkey75 Happy belated birthday! 🎂 Sounds like the vacation was fun! I live in a northern state and I'm not ready for snow yet.

I had a wonderful visit with other family at Mom and Dad's for his 90th birthday on Monday. Even logged my food (best guess) and left the cake at their house but for a small piece each for hubby and myself. Yesterday I just never got around to posting, but did log food. No exercise on another rainy day but cleaned up a bunch of empty flower pots and stowed in basement.

Recap Wed. 11/6 ~ overcast and damp day but at least it stopped raining
    1) Walk  3.51 mi & happy me
    2) Leftovers for supper / log all food / net calories zero / 64 oz. water
    3) Reply to messages / digital declutter

    JFT R 11/7
    1) Walk
    2) Leek & potato soup for supper / log all food / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    3) Wash dishes / read / digital declutter / other?

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]

    September: 5 days x1wk {including Annual Bridge Walk ~ double-crosser on The Mighty Mac}, 4x1, 3x2 {prep & colonoscopy so limited exercise}
    October: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin Women's 5K}, 5x1; 3x2 {bday day trip & dog/cyst between toes, overnight trip to parents & day trip to SB w/ PZ}

@cschmitz110515- thank you. It was wonderful. I grew up where I had access to the ocean in the summers and miss it very much. I would seriously consider moving back to somewhere that I can access more easily but right now its not in the cards.
I am definitely not a snow person anymore. I used to ski, snowmobile and enjoyed it much more when I was alot younger. Now its just annoying and winters are SOO long here.

Sounds like you had a lovely visit with your parents and great job with staying on track.

Getting back on track myself since getting home . I seem to have dropped the water weight so I am happy about that.

    JFT-
Don't give in to temptations! I am feeling like I want sweets today.. My sweet cravings have been under pretty good control with the GLP meds so I don't know if my dose needs to go up ( I have managed to stay on a very low dose and really don't want to go up) We will see what happens today
    1. Focus on protein and fiber
    2. Getting 10K steps
    3. Strength training- abs/legs

Good morning! It's a beautiful fall day in Wisconsin. Air is crisp but it is sunny with blue skies so I'm happy, happy, happy.

Husband is sick, sick, sick. He's had a cough, headache and sore throat since Tuesday, and today he woke up with body aches that have him lying on the couch. He rarely ever gets sick so I feel just terrible for him and there's really not much I can do to help him. I'm dreading the fact that it's almost inevitable that I will get it next. Sick of feeling sick this year! *sigh*

I'm running to the grocery store today. Tim has been doing the shopping for years either alone or with me...so it'll be different going alone today. I used to always do it alone, but when he retired and I was still working he just took it off my plate and it's stayed that way. I'll have to be careful not to buy all the easy, quick, junk foods that I love. He kind of keeps me in check when he comes with me. If it were up to me and I were single, I'd buy 7 frozen pizzas, a bucket of ice cream and a couple bags of chips and be set for the week! lol

Have a good day! I'll try to catch up later!

    Today's Top 3 Why's:
    1) Cardiac Health
    2) Strength, so I can go up & down bleachers myself
    3) Strong immune system

    1. No BS 24 Hour plan and assess.
    2. Journal every bite and close MFP diary at the end of the day
    3. 64 oz water. No excuses. DRINK MORE WATER! Add herbal tea if you need to...just do it.
    4. Watch for hunger vs boredom or emotional eating. Am I truly hungry, or am I trying to "fix" a feeling? If hungry, eat something I planned. If emotional eating, what can I do instead?
    5. Intentional activity, 30 minutes. Get outside and "touch a tree"! Close activity rings on watch.
    6. Home Care To-Do's: Floors, dust, laundry.
    7. Digital Declutter (Ongoing): Delete obsolete or odd photos (5 minutes). Email clean up (5 minutes). Copy files from old laptop onto jump drive (5 minutes)
    8. 5 Things Declutter challenge.
    9. Self Care (30 minutes of something calming)
    10. Grocery shopping. Food prep.
    11. Evning Routine

    This week I will…
-*Be intentional with the way I spend my time.
    * Focus on who is choosing me, wanting me, befriending me instead of worrying about who isn’t.
    * Actively search for joy in small moments.
    * Be kind every time I get the chance.
    * Be gentle with myself and with others. We are all human.
    * Remember that some things, some words and some people don’t require an emotional reaction from me. I can simply let it float away and move on with my life.
    * Put down my phone more and scroll less.
    * Refuse to feel guilty for finding pleasure in mundane things—a book, a game of pickleball, a phone call with a friend, a pumpkin spice latte…Life isn’t constantly about achieving this or that. Sometimes it’s about pure enjoyment.
    * Check on people I care about that I haven’t heard from in a while.
    * Work to forgive that person (whether they apologize or not).
    * Be in control of myself—my words, my actions, how I treat those around me and let the rest of it, rest.
    * Have pure intentions, but I will not people please. It’s okay if they don’t like me.
    * Try to carve out a little time with at least one person who is good for my soul.
    * Touch some grass.

    Recap R 11/7 ~ mostly sunny day
    1) Walk :sunglasses: 4.07 mi happy me
    2) Leek & potato soup for supper ~ new recipe, yum / log all food / net calories zero YAY green / 80 oz. water ~ 64 still ok  a good day
    3) Wash dishes / read / digital declutter / other? called Mom <3:smiley: TA-DA!

JFT F 11/8 ~ yay for sunny days
    1) Walked 2.72 mi happy me :sunglasses: & picked up 17 aluminum cans (most likely underage drinking route) for recycling, had to leave the plastic vodka bottles because I couldn't carry it all... I'll get them on another walk when I remember to bring a plastic bag
    2) Leftovers for supper / log all food / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    3) Dog vet 2:00 for reassessment of interdigital cyst (I've been so stressed about this) / empty kitchen compost bucket into bin / put away clean dishes / read / digital declutter / other?

During the Oct. 5# Challenge I didn't lose 5# but lost a couple. To be honest, Oct. was my bday month, and I ate out a few times, not something I frequently do. I also started to reduce the amount I eat at lunch, limit my sweets & snacks more, plus log as accurately as possible. Seems to be working, since I'm seeing numbers on my scale slowly go down (my scale is only to the nearest half pound). The trend is encouraging, and I'm working hard to continue, at a pace that is doable for me.

    About me:

      * potato leek soup (AllRecipes.com) ~ very good alternate leek soup recipe, easy to make... chopping up so many potatoes was the worst part LOL
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]

    August: 5 days x1wk, 4x2, 1x1 {hot/humid & scheduling conflicts}
    September: 5 days x1wk {including Annual Bridge Walk ~ double-crosser on The Mighty Mac}, 4x1, 3x2 {prep & colonoscopy so limited exercise}
    October: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin Women's 5K}, 5x1; 3x2 {bday day trip & dog/cyst between toes, overnight trip to parents & day trip to SB w/ PZ}

      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps [noticed 7/12 that requirement reduced to 5,000 steps, but I'll continue with goal of 7,500]:
        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct /
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (shoot, didn't get selected randomly for waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for 6.8.24 Bellin 10K race ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star: chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)

Recap Sat. 11/8 ~ sunny morning, clouds moved in for rain tonight & tomorrow
    1) Walked 4 mi while sun shining & having a plastic bag with me, picked up the plastic bottles plus more cans I found, plus a bit of trash (I hate that this is even necessary) :sunglasses: happy me
    2) Log all food / leftovers for supper / net calories zero / 80 oz. water  with all my activity, even had ice cream for dessert & happy me
    3) Leafblow & rake ~ I got the hang of the leafblower (hubby stayed inside to keep tabs on doggo) after some trial and error, and mostly blowed, partly raked the entire yard (back & front), now we have nice new leaf piles for city crews to collect / dump more planters ~ dumped two, only one left that's still blooming / read / digital declutter / other? enough done  happy me & TA-DA!

JFT Sunday 11/9 ~ rainy day and temps mild for time of year
    1) Min. 5000 steps
    2) Ham, green bean casserole & potatoes for supper / net calories zero (really need to watch portions today) / limit snacks & sweets / 80 oz. water
    3) Download cc txns, schedule pmt & claim cash reward / update budget s/s / review donation requests & write checks / stow more pots in basement / wash dishes / read / digital declutter / call Mom / other?

Due to our main vehicle being out of commission until all 4 brake pads are replaced on Tues., hubby's back-up vehicle not that great plus I have never driven, and us needing to keep close watch on dog so she doesn't bite/tear off bandages (again) and start licking (again), we skipped church service this morning & sad me. But we did our daily devotions.

We have a plan for the next days while we wait for dog's toe amputation next week Mon. Hubby is praying for a miracle so that surgery is not necessary, but I'm being more pragmatic. Which just adds to my stress, so I'm counting down the days. Then we have the post-op care (for 2-3 weeks), like keeping dog from jumping on furniture (she's normally allowed on one sofa & our bed), not running up & down the stairs often, and no running of any kind (she loves to chase all the squirrels) so being leashed in her own backyard to do her business. Ack!

Checking in! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I’ve been fighting coming down with a cold, so although I don’t feel good, I don’t feel sick either if that makes sense. I’ve been resting the past couple of days, but today I felt a little better so I attended online church service and then spent time in the kitchen batch cooking pasta, rice and potatoes, chopping celery and onion, and cleaning veggies for easy grabs. So far, I’ve hit all my goals for the day, so feeling happy about that!

I have been gaining a pound here and a pound there for the past few months, but today I got on the scale and was down 0.8 lbs so that is a step in the right direction. If I can stop the emotional eating and stop using food for entertainment, I know I can get back on track…it’s just plain healthier. 😊

It was a gray rainy day here and it gets dark by 5:00 pm now. Not my favorite part about living in Wisconsin.😬

Actually taught spin for the first time in ages. Well I've been showing up, but I've not been riding as much as instructing. Saturday I rode with them. It was difficult but it felt good. I'm covering a class for a friend tomorrow. Need to get back into the gym regularly. Went to the doctor today and saw a number on the scale I've never seen before. Not a good feeling. On the up side my BP was 110/70 and my labs so far are right down the middle. Still waiting for cholesterol and thyroid function to come in.

    JFT Monday

Been MIA again... this retirement is nice, but boy, I sure manage to keep busy, and don't take the time on the computer as much. I need to change that.. at least log all my food and post on here!
Scale is going up... emotional eating. Having some issues again with our daughter, which makes me worry and eat mindlessly. Why do these habits come back so quick
On a happier note, our son, wife, and all 5 kids are flying into town friday nite for a quick weekend with us. So .. I've been decorating our backyard with xmas lites already.. which makes me happy. I will try and post a picture tonite. This all started when a good friend passed away that had made xmas "ornaments" out of coat hangers. During covid, I put them up, and each year I have added .. things like tomato cages with lights, hubby bought me some iceles lites.. its our own little wonderland.
We have to run now as our battery is dead on one of the cars.. just glad it happened today instead of this weekend. Oh.. and I will also post a picture of baby quilts.. I love how they turned out.
    Anyhow.. goals today
    1. LOG ALL FOOD
    2. no more mindless eating... it helps no one, and makes me feel worse
    3. concentrate on water
    4. finish putting up backyard xmas lites
    5. bake pumpkin bread
    6. grocery list for this weekend.. we are hoping to grill, as 2 grandkids are very picky eaters.. but everyone loves hamburgers
    7. make cold pasta salad for granddaughter who is vegetarian
    8. finish quilts
    9. relax... roofers will be coming this week also.. so a busy week~
