    I don't know if its the sweet apple, or the crunchy celery, or the walnuts, but all together its amazing!

    @Whidislander - Rebecca - I have a couple friends who make lefse. There's a fairly large Norwegian population in Alberta. In fact, my mother spent quite a few years when she was young in a community with a high population of Norwegians who celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve ... so her family started doing the same thing ... and my father liked the idea when he and my mother got together ... and they raised us kids celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve. And because of the Norwegian community in Alberta, I have always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. :smiley:

    Reply: oh that's so cool! I would've loved to celebrate within a community like that! There are many baked holiday treats that I still have never personally made like the sweet delicate rossette's that are a batter dipped cookie into hot oil for a sec, then the pressed cookies rolled around a cone thing. All things my mom did and we watched.

    Hugs, friend! Glad you rec'd it. I am old fashioned this time of year. To the point of hot gluing flowers onto clothes pins, to hold the cards I receive. It just makes me happy to send and receive.🤗😁

    very quick post. I will be heading up to mom's for the weekend as soon as my daycare girl leaves. I wasn't supposed to have her today- her mom called last night and needed me to pick her up from school. They had a funeral inSacramento and wouldn't be back in time to get her like they thought(or they were going to take her with them but changed their mind)

    I will be home Sunday night.
    This is our candy making weekend.
    DH picked up a ham and turkey from the deli at his store- they were marking them down. They are cooked(from their dinner meals). Got them for $5 each. We will have them for dinner while I am there and I will pack some in the freezer for her to have for other meals.
    She doesn't eat like she should when she is there by herself so I make sure to cook bigger meals when I am there and leave left overs for her.

    Michelle- I got the check- so sorry the tree didn't work out for you

    I have made the rossettes in the past- they really are simple. I need to make them again. The ones I make are a mold that is dipped in batter then fried and I also have pizzelle maker(haven't used it yet) that you can serve flat or in a cone.

    Mom used to make a flat thin fried "cookie" for Christmas- they were eaten before the next batch were out of the fryer. They were so good. Haven't had them in close to 50 yrs now but I still remember them.

    My father tried to make them and made a batch, sprinkling them with sugar and a bit of powdered sugar. Then tasted them, uuuck! He said they were awful! Tried again and again, then finally realizing he was accidentally sprinkling them with salt instead of sugar!😂

    We've got rain and high winds for the next two days. Gusts of 60 mph at the moment.
    My friend L in Wales is under a red warning of 90 mph.
    Terri- have you had it bad?
    We always worry about our fences. And hope our TV aerial stays up.

    I'm going to make broccoli soup for lunch, and pigs cheeks in ale for dinner. That won't interfere with my baking with Edie, as I make it in the IP.

    Just watched my favourite YouTuber get to 1,000,000 subscribers. Cas (Clutterbug). Wow! That's one whole lot of work and dedication over seventeen years.

    Broccoli soup, first stage, in the IP by 8.20 a m. The house smells very veggie. :p I will cook the florets at the last minute to keep them green. Then stick blend the lot.

    Heather- I'm looking at the UK weather on Windy.com right now. Two days of the severe wind for you folks. Do you get this often? It looks like your version of the "bomb cyclone" we experienced a few weeks ago here in the Pacific Northwest, except ours blows in and is generally over in a day. I would probably lose the roof to my house and definitely electricity for several days with sustained winds like you are having.

    Is your son back home yet? I'd hate to be in an airplane in this. :#

    I needed today!

    I slept about 11 hours.
    I tidied around my chair, picked up all my socks from the floor, and put away most of my laundry.
    I made progress decorating the Christmas tree.
    I went through some of the left over cycling event stuff.
    I finally found my referral for an abdominal ultrasound.
    I started colouring again.
    And my husband and I went to a community carols thing.

    I feel slightly more on top of things.

    Regarding the socks ... I wear socks when out exercising or at work or wherever, but I shed them soon after I arrive home. So I end up with socks here and there around the place. And sometimes more than one pair a day if I have a pair I wear for work, and shed them, then use another pair for cycling in the evening, and shed them. Plus sometimes I put on an at-home evening pair thinking my feet will be cold, but they rarely are, and I end up shedding them somewhere too. I much prefer being barefoot at home.
