Good morning beautiful ladies!
I still have all my Christmas shopping to do. No pressure!
Have a great day! May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

I had my painting group over for a Christmas gathering at my home. We try to have it in the space we are in where we meet and it doesn't work very well. It did get me to move things around to create more space for the party. I find I like the open spaces I created. It went well and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It was nice to fill my home with good cheer. Our organizer took a picture and when she sends it out I will share it.
One of the painters is good with computers and I happened to get my temperature monitor for the other house. He got it set up here to see how it works. Now I have to take it over to my son's house and get it paired with the internet over there. I want this so if I can't make it over there I can get the temperature to make sure the furnace is working. A friend at church told me about it. She uses it to monitor a cabin.
Today I will take some veggie soup to the friend who lost her husband overseas. She is now sick. Again what we should all know when a loved one passes is where their social security card is (or know the number at least), your birth certificate, current and perhaps past marriage license, death certificate, and passwords for important accounts and possibly answers to security questions depending on the account.
Unfortunately his death being overseas is adding quite an extra cost and another layer of paperwork.
It does not surprise me she got sick from the stress of all of it.6 -
Cookies at Christmas - my paternal grandmother and most of that older side of the family made huge amounts of treats at Christmas. My maternal grandmother’s side not so much. I think the difference was the size of the families. On my paternal side there were several with 6 or more children, so when families visited it was an inexpensive way to treat everyone when chocolate and fruits were expensive. My maternal side most had only one child, so visiting didn’t mean as many people so not as much baking got done, there were usually fruit bowls as well as chocolates and nuts.
Nowadays I don’t know how inexpensive it is to bake but I know some people do it because of tradition.
That’s only my own theory, no scientific proof to back it up. I know Kaitlyn does it because she enjoys it and she gifts treat tins to people.
Ginny - I hope the cold decides to go, glad your granddaughter only had a couple days in the hospital, is that the little one, is her name Lily?
Kylia - what a shame that the mechanics didn’t come looking. Do you post jobs available on Indeed?
Lovely wedding photos.
Lisa - I would like to start a new scrapbook next year for both of the grands. I also need to do my diary project and get that put away.
I don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long, I did move the diaries to the craft room this week.
Annie - I have a lot of shopping left to do as well. Some of it might just happen on Christmas Eve.
Margaret - you seem to be enjoying the two houses, it must be hard to keep up at times though.
Sounds like a fun gathering.
My cousin’s husband passed in the States in April 22 and it took a long time to get things cleared for him to get home to be laid to rest. His young (30) daughter had to deal with it all as her Mom passed in 2019. She was expecting her second and the stress made her and the baby sick, the baby stopped growing and had to come early by almost a month.
Those deaths really affected me and I still find it hard to believe they are gone. They were mine and Rodger’s ages, we were married a couple weeks apart and had children at the same time.
I have been laying in bed, catching up with you ladies, my alarm is about to go off so I might as well get up.
I’ll catch up again this evening.

Kylia ~ You were a beautiful bride at both weddings!
Machka ~ Hope the brace helps your had/wrist heal quickly. Those Aus. gift baskets for co workers seem expensive.
Ginny ~ Your job sounds like one I would not like to have...so many meetings and decisions to make!
Mo ~ The book shelf looks much neater. Hope you enjoy your Orlando trip.
Rebecca ~ The jewels you mentioned for your jewelry tree must bring back fond memories!
BASKETS: Wonderful for keeping track of things so you can find them easier. We have baskets and bowls all over mostly for little things just to get them out of the way.

We had a king bed in the kirby cut it down to a queen. Saved us some $$$ to have someone do it.
We are also going to have the dining area removed and we are going to have a little sofa installed and we will buy some end tables from Amazon (where else) and put them on either end. We were debating on whether to get a seating area with or without armrests.
The one with the red comforter is the new queen
Oh that will be so easier to get in and out off, plus easier to make the bed.👍🏼

Most certainly. Once I got a glue gun, most every trinket went on the tree. I even have a watch ring I had as a kid.
It was my Moms and had long since stopped working, so it was just "play jewelry" when I had it.😁

Well vertigo is making my nights a swirly deal. I sleep but it just feels like I am on a ship or racecar going round and round. My dreams are even affected! I am taking Excedrin PM hoping that will tackle some of the achiness I feel in the morning. Right now my head hurts, my neck hurts and I am just zonked.
On a great note, I received a nice package from one of you! Thank you for all the extra Christmas cards (the ones with the matching envelopes too) and Christmas stickers. I might not even have to buy Christmas cards next year, you gifted me so many! Thank you! Its much appreciated!
Poor husband has a dentist appointment today. The cleaning gal gives him so much grief about his plaque buildup, he gets distressed about it. I want to call up the place and give them a piece of my mind! When he was so sick, in ammonia comas, his teeth turned a bit of a yellow. They were trying to keep him alive, and keeping his teeth clean was kind of the least of their worries. He brushes 3 times a day, and his teeth are still not white. The fact that the cleanings are spaced out with months in between they should not scold him so. Before he left I told him to not bite them.😁
Hugs to those that need or wish them!

Jess called to say that she was stuck in traffic so we kept the animals another day. She came here Mon after work, gave her a pulled pork sandwich and the pulled pork I got from the soup kitchen and she went back.
We just made the pierogi (50 of them). I’m thinking that I may try making to crusciki with the pasta maker, maybe I can get the dough thin enough. We shall see
Yesterday went to Kohl’s since I had $5 off and we needed a liquid measuring cup. The only one I could find that was plastic was a 4qt one and I didn’t want one that big. However, I did find a pack of 3 gift card tins for $5 so I got them for free. $5 for tissue paper – are they kidding???? I’ll go to the $1 (well, $1.25) store and get it
Stopped at Food Lion on the way home from work to get the sour cream for the pierogi. Got rainchecks for more of the crab and some of the cake mix, which is $1 a box and $1 off two boxes. The gal who gave me the rainchecks at first wrote the full price and it says to put down the sale price, so I had her change it. At first she wasn’t pleased, but too bad. Crab for $50? I think not. It’s about $25 and BOGO so each one is about $12, that I can live with.
Diana – I’m so sorry about your parish. They used to have a midnight mass at one of the churches here but they haven’t in the past few years. How I miss it! Wish our shopping was done. We only made the pierogi since it’s raining out and we can’t work outside. I’m thinking that next year I’ll make them in Sept or Oct or Nov and just keep them in the freezer. One less thing to have to do in Dec., especially since vince waits until the last minute to do things, and then things don’t get done since he’s run out of time. I’m going to do things over the summer
Rebecca – what a sweet tree,
Today this gal at BK asked me if I wanted to take part in their Secret Santa. No, let’s face it, I don’t really know a lot of people who work there, most of them are young so I would have no idea what to get. And I would probably get something like lipstick (which I don’t wear). So she asked me if I was coming to the Christmas party. To be honest, I didn’t even know there was one. It’s next Sun. I really don’t want to go so I told her that that’s the day we have Vince’s train club’s Christmas party. Well, that’s the day I was told it was scheduled for, but we haven’t been told anything about it. Maybe they decided to cancel it? Whatever...I didn’t want to go to the BK one anyway so if the train one was canceled I’m not going to worry at all.
Denise called to ask us not to call on christmas and ask PJ what Santa brought him since Pete is working for Christmas so they’re having their Christmas on New Years. I don’t have a problem but I hope she can keep it from PJ. At least he’s not in school where the kids will be talking about what they got
They had an electric problem at BK on Sunday. Today I overheard (that really doesn’t mean anything) that it was a bad circuit breaker. Assuming that’s the fact, I know replacing the breaker isn’t hard and is quick to do (Vince has done it here) so I gave them extra prep since I won’t be there tomorrow. I’m assuming they’ll be back up and ready for business soon. Can you imagine? The fryers were out, the grill was out. I would think that means lost revenue and maybe future business.
Vince suggested I take some Tylenol for my heel. I totally forgot before work but took some when I got home. It does seem to be helping, at least helping me not to feel the discomfort, don’t know if it’s helping it to heal or not.
Rita – If I could find an alien head, I’m sure a friend of mine in FL would do the numbers for me. She’s a fantastic artist. If I make the crusciki, I’m thinking of using lard for the deep fryer. I tried using Crisco once and it wasn’t all that good (the liquid Crisco, not the solid. Maybe I should try the solid too). Which is better, the solid Crisco or lard?
I feel sad when I see all the lovely things Tracey and Kyle do with the kids, knowing that Denise probably doesn’t do any of that. Well….. I still love seeing all they do.
Got most of the blowmolds out yesterday. Still have to do the ones on the side of the house and a few more in front. We won’t have any inflatables this year since we’ll be gone to Jess’ for 4 days . Doesn’t bother me. If we got rid of all the inflatables, wouldn’t bother me one bit. I don’t care for inflatables. Now blowmolds….that’s ANOTHER story
Margaret – lovely light. I’ve never seen one like it. What a neat gift
Tracey – I like that sign that snowflakes are kisses from heaven. What a lot of work! But looks good. Your Christmas villages are lovely. Wish we could put ours up this year. Well..maybe next year
Lisa and Deb – we know the world’s not flat because if it was, cats would knock everything off...right???
How I wish the Charlie Brown movies would come back to regular TV. Charles Schultz must be rolling over in his grave knowing that not all kids can see them.
Lanette – I’m sure your local library would take donations of books. Whenever I see an ad for a business that says something like “since 1973”, it seems like they’re just starting, then I realize how many years they’ve been in business. Yikes!
Vince took one of his vehicles for an oil change and they couldn’t do it since they didn’t have water. Hope BK does since they’re right next door.
Got to ask Jess what she wants me to make for christmas Eve. I think we’re actually going to have Christmas Eve dinner on Christmas day. But that’s OK, as long as it’s fish, that’s the Polish tradition
Taping my mouth shut: might not be a bad idea...would keep me from eating….lol
We just trimmed the cat’s nails. Boy, some real hypodermic needles there! We used to have to do it every week, now it’s about every week and a half
Allie – ALWAYS love seeing smiling faces...makes me smile
Christmas cards – I’m thinking that maybe next year I’ll send cards only to people who send them to me as they send them. I’m thinking that maybe people just send me a card because I sent one to them. Maybe this will be a way I can cut down on the cards. Or maybe I’ll send them in January to the people who sent them to me
Carol – glad you got your bill reduced
Mo – do you o to your Timeshare often? Our condo is in Titusville. Maybe one time we can meet down there? Wouldn’t that be cool???
Rori – a cat advent calendar? Never heard of one, gotta look, maybe for next year
Tracey – you gave me a great idea. A sweet charcuterie board. We’re having our bowling party this Mon and on Wed the lady who runs it is having her Church Christmas party. Maybe I’ll give her one for her party. But that means that I’ll have to bake..oh well.
Ceramics tonight

This month seems to be flying by. I got my cards done and mailed. Enjoy hearing family news. I have my shopping done, did have to return acouple things for a different size, but have the rest wrapped. Want to make some cookies for the neighbors on our block.
Lisa--glad you are able to do the road trips. We do that on weekends to geocache and enjoy exploring the old country roads.
Rori--Thanks for sharing your trip with us Looks like a lot of fun and beautiful things to see.
Rita--sending hugs and prayers.
We have gotten everything signed up for medacare. I don't like change. I have gotten a rash again and lots of spots that like to bleed. Doctor says it's auto immune thing and not sure what the next step is.

For work colleagues, we might exchange half a dozen chocolates.
The gift baskets/hampers are the only other food gift I have seen here, and that might be given to the person who hosts Christmas dinner or a business that has really come through for us or something.
Our landlord used to give us a gift basket/hamper and when we bought our new house, the real estate agent gave us one.

When I baked at my sisters, she spent $97 at Costco buying stuff for baking. We made two pans of fudge, two pans of cowboy fudge ,with peanuts and marshmallows), 2 pans of Christmas crack, two pans of lemon squares, and two pans of nuddy buddies. Her two kids put in their requests, and we delivered. I doubt they financially contributed to my sister, but my sister wouldn't even think about basked them to help out with that. I guess I am more money conscious, not like she's not mind you.💖

My maternal side of the family always did treats. Great aunt and great grandmother made all kids of candies- divinity, fondant coated ones(NOT a fan of those) plus so many others. Grandmother made treats, so did mom and I have continued the tradition. Different kinds of treats.
Mom would make baskets filled with home made jams/jellies/baked goods for each of her two siblings and their families. It really was an inexpensive way(we were really poor) but the families always looked forward to them.
Baking now can get expensive but I look around, find good prices on things and check out recipes that are not expensive to make- like the caramel corn and cracker toffee. They make large batches(caramel corn uses 6 quarts of popped popcorn per batch) and simple recipes. The most expensive things in it are peanuts- they have been on great sales lately and butter- 2 sticks and we are paying $4 a pound so just $2. Less than $4 for the whole batch for all ingredients if you shop the sales.

I think we may have that problem here when it is finally put up(son and his girlfriend were supposed to put it up over the weekend while I was at my mom's but they forgot- said they will do it tonight). Our problem isn't a dog but cats, including three 6 month old kittens. The other cats, except one, have all been here over the years with the tree and all have been good about leaving it alone. One did pee under it but putting "stop spray" on the pads under it as soon as the tree is up to hopefully stop that3 -

I just used my $5 Kohl's card(on line)- wouldn't let me use the 30% off too but that is ok. I needed a water bottle for one of the guys in Zumba(the girls are getting fuzzy socks and other little girly things)
Found one on sale and with the coupon, got it to just over $4. I will go to the store and pick it up tomorrow.
Our church does a Christmas eve service but I have never gone because I am driving up to mom's then. Do not want to head up those back roads at 10 pm at night by myself and drive almost an hour and a half.
I thought of you the other day when I was coming back from picking up Ezie from school. One house had some cute blowmolds in their yard.
I LOVE the inflatables because they are easy to set up but more so, they are easy to store. We don't have a lot of storage for big stuff.
I can pack a half dozen all into one tote.

When we were kids .. we put small eye hooks on the wall and wired the tree up every year as we always had, cats, dogs ..etc..
I remember as a kid making sugar cookies and gingerbread men..we used red hots and those little silver balls for decorations, and i made them with my kids too,and glad to see Tracy is carrying on the traditions
Got Doris to the eye dr,stopped at Dollar tree and stopped at the cemetery to put my godsons christmas tree up..that is Doris's grandson.. he died at 20 in a car wreck he would be 41 had he lived..
Miles brought Rockem Sockem Robots over to play with his sister lol.. Tracy said he just loves Delia and goes over to her and says I love you Delia ,all the time.6 -
Michele - deep fat frying is best with oil with a high smoke point so you don't get a burned flavor.
of the ones that are easy to get coconut is the best, then peanut oil but that has allergy issues, extra virgin olive oil, and canola oil - Lard is about as good, but if anyone is vegan, vegetarian, or doesn't eat pork - lard is an issue for them.
smiles Kim2 -

Kim – I really don’t want to take the chance with the coconut oil. Jess is allergic to coconuts. No one here is vegan, etc. so that is good. Just not sure if solid Crisco or Lard is better for use in the deep fat fryer. Just looked it up. Crisco’s smoke point is 440 while Lard’s is 370. So looks like I’ll be using the Crisco. Talk about unhealthy!!! I remember my grandmother used to use (I think it was) the fat from bacon, chicken, and probably other things. I don’t have that. Not that we use a lot of bacon. Back then people were so active that it probably didn’t make much of a difference calorie-wise. She used to make the perogi dough and knead it by hand, I use the dough hook on the mixer with the pasta attachment instead of rolling the dough out like she did.
No work tomorrow so that means I get to go to the gym (yippee). I think I’ll do a spinning workout since that probably doesn’t use a lot of the heel. I was surprised last week how much you use your heel when you’re using the elliptical
My Holiday Miss Piggy was fired, I’ll bring it home Monday since it was raining hard today Right now I’m working on a Kermit the Frog. She’s more of a Christmas Miss Piggy but Kermit is more of a St. Patrick’s Day frog. Well, they’ll both go out by the pool
Going to make a sweet charcuterie board for the bowling lady. Vince doesn't understand why you don't have to tell someone that you don't put a wooden board in the dishwasher. So I guess I'll start the baking tomorrow. I'm going to make chocolate chip cookies (Vince will eat them, too) and ginger cookies. I need to make fudge, brownies, citrus cookies and one other type of cookie. So if I make 2/day, I'll get it done by Monday. Since it'll be raining tomorrow (according the Mr. Weatherman), maybe I can get 4 things done. I can also take some things to Jess' for Christmas
Bowling tomorrow night

Rebecca - I have never had white teeth, they have always been a yellow tinge. So is most of my family on Dad’s side.
Pip - that’s a good idea, do you have a sofa to sit on if needed?
Michele - our Grands have Christmas on different dates quite often, a lot of families with shift workers have to do that.
My dad was an electrician, breakers in restaurants and businesses are a much bigger deal than household breakers. I remember when he was sick a breaker went at a local nursing home. He said it would probably be a 2 week fix because the breaker needed to be ordered in, cost 10’s of thousand of dollars and everything needed to be inspected not just that one breaker before they could reopen, it ended up being closer to 3 weeks.
Vicki - I hope you get some medical answers soon.
Rebecca - I’m not surprised it cost her that much for baking. Everything has gotten so expensive, Lauryn usually makes flannel pj pants for her family, she bought them this year because it was cheaper than the material. It’s a shame, she enjoyed doing it.
Debbie - it all sounds delicious, I used to make some jellies for my grandfather. We’re fortunate here if we find a pound of butter for less than 6.00. Eggs are also really expensive now.
I spent the evening making another card.
2 more to go, I missed someone on my list so had to add one. 🙄

Sitting in the dark, except for the Christmas lights on, and listening to Christmas music is one of my favourite parts of Christmas. Peaceful.
