Cookie baking with Kentucky grands. Parents went on a date. We did chocolate/butterscotch chips, snickerdoodles, peanut butter blossoms, and sugar cookies. Fun time! I really need an island! It wont fit, but the corner is tight! Before they got here, DH and I got the Christmas lights down. High, really high winds tonight. The lights wouldn't have liked them. I got house vacuumed. Grocery shopping done. Had a salad with pizza for lunch. Good thing since I am full from cookie tasting!
Machka I like your planning strategy. I learn so much from all of you Ladies! All the ideas are planted and we see what takes root. I love your view!
Welcome to Heidi. I am approaching 62. Married for the second time. Two wonderful and sassy adult daughters. Four lovely grands-1 adult amd 3 teenagers. Also the proud parent of Tory and Cali my 9 month old kittens. My DH and his sister own a lawnmower shop that I run. Have the tools just need to use them to get rid of this last 15-20lbs I have been messing with. I LOVE this group of supportive and caring women.
It is the update that is being troublesome. This computer is only 1.5 yo so has always been W11. My DH's on the other hand is still W10, oops. We will see what happens.
Tory is curled on my chest and ready for bed.
Goodnight Lovely Ladies!
Love,

Thank you for the sharing about Windows 11. The new computer Jake just bought has Windows 11 and my trusty laptop has Windows 10. Jake had just switched to a PC after a few yesr with an iMac. He kept asking me to help him but without sitting down at his computer and figuring out what to do, I couldn't help. When I bought my laptop it had Windows 7. One morning I turned on the computer, I discovered that it had updated to Windows 10. I was freaked out but soon figured out how to navigate it and found it highly satisfactory.
Daughter offered to "scrub" the new computer and return it to Costco for a refund but after reflecting for a day I decided to keep it. My computer doesn't have a camera and I'm on Zoom meetings most days using an external camera that's a huge pain. And it will allow me to get familiar with Windows 11. I'll decide later what to do with two computers.
Son and partner have to head home early tomorrow because there's a big storm coming along their route. He split firewood, raked debris in the yard and took down everything from all the high shelves and cupboards so I can deal with stuff without climbing the stepstool. His lovely partner cleaned more of the house and cooked a yummy supper. Daughter cleaned, played with the dogs, and went through a lot of Jake's stuff to find things she wanted for herself. There was also time for talking. I finished making all the calls to the people Jake had on his list and fielded other calls from people who had gotten the news from others. My Sunday walking friend came for our regular walk.

Heather - Give more compliments is a great goal.
I think it would help people learn to receive them too.
Machka - your view is stunning.
I think you and I are a lot alike. I too make plans and then something happens and I change the direction completely.
I am a very go with the flow type person, but within some basic routines. My house has to be in order and my work life has to be in order.
Lanette - I don’t usually make goals either, I do want to start a gratitude journal again I should make that a goal for this year.
I also want to start swimming again.
I like the idea of the farmers carry, carrying water would make it more difficult as it moves around too. Maybe sand would work if it became too difficult.
Kylia - it sounds like you had a good day all in all. I love your car.
My DH built me a Christmas shed last year, I need to reorganize the decorations a bit differently because they spilled over to another shed. I’m also missing some of my ornaments.
Lisa - I really enjoy your thought processes and how you write them all out. I’ve never had a word for the year, I think I’ve tried a few times and like you didn’t do much about it.
My biggest wish this year that I have no say in whatsoever is that Kaitlyn and Brodey have a successful IVF and pregnancy that lasts. They are starting the process in January.
Ginny - sounds like a great holiday. I hope the credit card wasn’t too frightening.
Heidi - Welcome! I have been reading and participating in this group since April of 2018, others have been here much longer than me. It is rare that I don’t at least drop in and read each day. It takes some time to get to know everyone but once you do you’ll probably join in daily too. There are a wise, friendly bunch of women here. The new post for January will be posted on the 31st.
Allie - I sure hope Tracy gets out of her situation. It’s a sin that he’s breaking the baby’s things. If he’s unwilling to get help, he’ll never change.
Rebecca - yes you wrote to Heather. I love her writing as well, but you’re not shabby by any means. I can never find the words I want when I need them the most.
Chips - that is the downfall for me at the grocery store.
Lisa - Will Kelsey be getting a new base soon? She’s been there a couple of years now hasn’t she?
Barbie - The help has been appreciated I’m sure.
I worked on my project some more today. I’ll try to get pictures when it’s completed.
I also ordered a bookshelf today, I needed one that would hold my photo albums that I bought last year. The one I found was on sale so took the plunge.
Kaitlyn and Brodey stopped on their way home from Banff to get Ember. Poor Ember hates riding in a vehicle, she wasn’t even excited to see them, she saw who it was at the door and went back on the bed with Rodger. When they got her out of there, she tried to hide between the couch and coffee table. They put her leash on to take her out and she came to me and was just shaking. I don’t know why she dislikes it so much, when she was a pup she didn’t mind it.
They had a good trip, had fun snowboarding, had a couple of nice dinners and lots of relaxing.
They needed that break before they start their treatments next month.
I should head to bed, Michaela is expecting me early-ish tomorrow.

I'm not a word of the year person either. The idea is too restricting for me - life tends to take huge zigs or zags that throw me into unexpected territory which would cause my word to fall down in a helpless faint unable to encompass the new whatever. And I would probably forget it halfway through the year.

Did one of Cathe’s STS DVD’s and then a Yoga for Weight Loss DVD then took a walk around the neighborhood. Gawd, how I missed this. Yes, I went slower, it’ll just take time for my heel to be better. It’s feeling better than it was a few weeks ago. Then went to Aldi, home and made yogurt in the IP, a pineapple angel food cake for Tues when Ken &Lynette will most likely be over (they’re usually here NYE), a chocolate pudding pie, now making honey glazed carrots, will bake the rolls so we can have them. I’m trying to do as much in advance as possible. I’ll probably make the pineapple casserole. Also made applesauce. It’s unsweetened, so I’ll put sugar on the table in case Ken and/or Lynette need it. Need to get the pork loin and the ice cream, but have to go to Food Lion for that.
Oh, yesterday I had such a horrible experience at the CVS by me. I asked for a raincheck for an item that was on sale. The manager told me there was a limit of how many. When I asked him “since when” he told me it had always been that way. I told him I had rainchecks with larger amounts and was told “well, you won’t get anything if you don’t stop being nasty”. Anyone who knows me knows that I am anything BUT nasty. This is the second time they have refused to give me a raincheck. I then went to another CVS who gave me two rainchecks for 4 items each. I really wanted 8, but they said that sometimes they don’t have 8 in stock so she gave me 2 rainchecks. I did put in a call to have the district mgr call me, wonder if he will?
Heidi – welcome! Where in NC are you? Yes, our fearless barbie starts a new thread every month so be sure to bookmark it and come back. You HAVE to let me know where in NC you are.
Regarding exercise equipment – I just got something in the mail that as of Jan 1 FitOn Health is starting provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC Medicare. Each month I get $112 to spend on fitness places or classes or equipment. I think I’m going to join (can’t hurt and evidently doesn’t cost anything) and at first at least see the quality or lack of in the equipment. Not sure if you can use it for fitness centers outside of NC. Well, my Y membership also includes the Y in FL, something about it being in network. Hey, I can use the Y here and in FL, that’s all that’s important to me
Lanette – love your weights
HUGS to everyone not feeling well
Rebecca – I have you beat as far as how long I’ve been a member. I joined in 2009.
You know, soon I’ll be 70 and to be honest, in a way I’m embracing it. I remember when I was in my 40’s and 50’s I would be super concerned about my appearance, always have makeup on etc. Now I’ve gotten to the point of “if you don’t like what you see, then don’t look”. I keep myself clean, but I’m not going to go crazy. It’s something to do the exercise DVD’s and realize that I’m modifying not so much because I’m a beginner, but because I’m no longer the age of the people leading the DVD. I’m fine with the person I am. I know it really bothered Vince when he turned 70. It’s really not bothering me. Is that weird, or what?
Have some pulled pork that I got from the soup kitchen a while ago and froze it. Now I’m just going to put bbq sauce on it and then portion it out for Vince.
Made the pineapple casserole.
Had to go to the bathroom and am having a hot flash so I’m sitting here eating a few frozen grapes.
I’m not making any goals or words either. Like Lisa, they get forgotten by the end of January
Regarding W11: looks like we’ll be getting new desktops since ours won’t support W11. Not sure if the laptops will. Have to check that out
Carol – I think I made that recipe for chocolate icing once! Yes, it was very good
Vince opened the downstairs for the cats so now they can go down there all they want. Personally, I suspect he was getting tired of watching TV upstairs. We were just afraid to do it (2500 sq feet) as we were afraid they’d get lost! Plus...he was concerned that they’d use his speakers as scratching posts. So he put some sort of “barrier” on them (still have to go look at this) to keep them from scratching them along with scratching posts downstairs. But I have a feeling that I can’t do my puzzles, tho. Has anyone had experience with one of those things that you can put the puzzle on and then fold it up. What has your experience been?
Ordered a toiletry bag and it just came in the mail. Before this, I had all my toiletries for when we go away in a plastic bag. I did fine, however, that it was a bit of a pain to have them like this when I had to put them in the bag every night since I couldn't leave them out with the cats, so I got a bag. Looks like it'll work. Not sure what you can use the outside pouch for since there isn't a zipper on it. I would probably use it if there was a zipper. Like I said, not sure what you'd use it for. Anyone have any ideas? Whatever it's used for has to be something that won't fall out since no zipper

Lisa: What you said about systems resonated so much with me. It occurred to me that that’s exactly what I have done with my habit modification over the last few years, and creating a system that supports a fitter/healthier lifestyle.
I like to use the terms Aims or Objectives and frame them in less restrictive ways, like I choose to…. etc. I use use a 4 step plan on what I would like to achieve.
My main objective in 2024 was to continue to consolidate and extend my Solid Habits. I don’t do New Years Resolutions. My objectives can change at any time I choose.
Enjoyed our walk and lunch on Friday. Saturday we went shopping for fresh veg etc.
Yesterday we drove up to DED’s to say goodbye to DYGS. He flies back to England today.(Monday)
Today I am clearing up as DED and granddaughter are coming down for dinner tomorrow. We will have takeaway. DYD will join us.
The rest of the week will be fairly relaxed.
I’m going to do some exercise. Back soonest.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Got a decent bicycle ride in today!!
Also dug another section of the front yard. Spent 2 hours with that mattock, but I'll count it as 30 minutes of exercise because I did rest now and then. Wielding the mattock makes me huff and puff although it is getting easier.
Mine is a cutter mattock like this ...

Michele ~ I know you were disappointed that the drug store did not want to give you several rain checks on the cereal; but, I wonder how in the world you use so much cereal? My husband bought several huge boxes of cheerios a year or so ago and I know they will never get eaten. He will probably use the Food Saver to store them but we never even eat the stuff.
Kylia ~ Love the photos of your two grand kids making cookies!
Machka ~ Beautiful scenery.
Fingers crossed that we will be able to go to the lawyers office today to pick up the approved Probate Court papers on my BnL's estate. We really need to get his estate dispersed to my DH's brother's children so we can move on with our life. We have been in limbo for almost a year.

Morning, my darlings...
Doesn't even seem REAL that tomorrow is New Year's Eve, but at the same time, I could not BE more glad that today is Monday. Seriously. Y'all know I adore my husband, but I was glad to see him go back to work. I genuinely love my alone time. I'll put it this way - our long discussion on what it will take to get a woodshop/workshop built before he retires got a lot more interest from me than it might have otherwise. Once he retires, I may need to say "go to your room!" at some point! 👀😂🐈⬛
Latest adventures in renovating our 1950s stone house:For those who know my journey with this house, this will make more sense, but the latest is that we've decided not to go to great lengths to build out a master bedroom suite in this house. The plan is to spend a little to get the two back bedrooms and half bath in working order, rather than try to combine them into a master bedroom.
If you look at the pic below, I'm talking about the two rooms all the way at left. The original plan in the renovations was that we were going to combine them into a big bedroom, walk-through closet, and use the space to turn the half bath into a full bath, plus some storage left over.
However, we made the decision this weekend that since there's just us, walking across the hall to the big bathroom is not a big deal. That means that all that needs doing is a new vanity and sink and a new wall built between the half bath and one bedroom (which we use as a store room).
You can see the dotted line where the wall must be rebuilt - the half bath was unusable before, as my six-foot tall husband couldn't sit on the toilet without his knees jammed into the wall that was literally six inches from the front of it. So we tore down the wall. We'll put it back in, but two feet from the toilet.
The ceilings (thank goodness) are in great shape, and the walls will need a few ouchies repaired, and paint. Then vinyl plank flooring, and we'll be done. A couple thousand dollars spread across three to six months or so, instead of a massive uproar, 20 grand, and lots more walls knocked down and rebuilt, etc.
That will take care of this year - then in 2026, we'll get a concrete pad laid down about 50 yards (45m) from the back of the house. We'll get that done by experts, preparing for the massive outbuilding that we will have someone else construct in 2027.
It will house a vehicle work area with enough space to get Corey's 1999 truck under shelter. We'll also build in a woodshop/workshop on one end, and outdoor storage for the mowers/trimmers/tillers, etc., on the other. It will be a 40 ft x 40 ft (12.2 meters square) concrete pad, and a 40 x 30 shop, leaving a 10 x 40 concrete apron in front.
The amount that we'll save by NOT creating a master bedroom will go a long way toward building the shop. We need the shop for a number of things we want to accomplish, but we don't NEED a master bedroom suite. It's just where we go to bed, after all.
The irony, of course, is that we're willing to spend the money for a place for the truck to sleep, but not for us to sleep. 👀😂😹
Carol - I hope your BnL's estate can finally be settled. The legal system is so incredibly slow in this country. It's a good reminder that we all need to get our own legal affairs in order before we shuffle off this mortal coil ourselves. Getting the trust set up, with our daughter as the trustee, was huge for me. A lot of peace of mind in one set of documents.
Kylia - Love the pics, looks like a fun time with the grands. My ex-son-in-law has taken away my 8-year-old granddaughter's phone while she's with him for Christmas, so it wasn't possible to talk to her. He's a sorry excuse for a father. 😢 For those who don't know the South, "sorry" is about as bad as it gets when it's used as an adjective.
Tracey - And speaking of the grands, there's a fair chance that when Cruz, her husband, retires, they'll move my daughter immediately - that's about a year away I think, or a year and a half. They may move her up to six months before that. They try not to separate families for more than that in the Army. She was telling me that her choices are mostly in Germany or Alaska, so they may not be a lot closer than Hawaii, if at all. I'm glad you like seeing the inside of my head... there are days that it just makes me tired!
Machka - I'm so glad you've found that place that suits you well. What a beautiful view from your deck! I look forward to seeing the results of your redesign of your yard.
Time to get the usual Monday chores done... my weight is right down the bottom of my maintenance range at 155. Quite happy with that.
Love y'all,

Pleased with self.
This morning I walked to the PO to return the light bulbs and picked up fabulous bread, Dim Sum, and a red pepper on the way home. I had a v short nap before lunch, so had plenty of energy left for the afternoon. I never go out twice in one day any more, but I just felt like it! So I caught the bus into town and intended to stock up on my favourite ear plugs. Of course, the shop had sold out. Grrrr!
So I wandered into M&S and nearly bought some gold sequinned trousers in the sale, for our next cruise. Then I thought I might have lost some weight by next October, so I put them back. Hooray!
My mind turned to New Years Eve, and something celebratory to eat. Picked up and put back Osso Buco, then spied Hollandaise sauce. It was nestling above some cod fillets, and next to some marsh samphire. Yum. A pot of mashed potatoes and I was sorted. Then I spied some mussels in garlic and white wine for a starter, so they were added to my collection. Five minutes work tomorrow night. I love samphire and rarely see it.
So I caught the bus that drops me outside the Mediterranean deli. It was open for a change! The owners are very elderly. I bought three packs of frozen artichokes, which the old boy had to dive deep for, and some frozen half-cooked falafel.
So, two outings in one day, and probably nearly two miles walked. I was a bit sore when I arrived home, but nothing terrible.
Hairy Bikers chicken and chorizo dish tonight, with brussel sprouts.

White poinsettia came home with me from church yesterday. I contributed it to the decorations at the church. They encourage us to bring them home...
I had my neighborhood party yesterday. It went well. It turned into a football party too. Our local team the Vikings is having one of its best seasons ever and we were playing our rival the Packers from Wisconsin. I did not fight it and had the game on for those who are football fans. I have a den area that is far from the living room so it worked well.

Still behind, here’s a belated welcome @vwiemer
Inspired by all your reflections on goals, systems, words of the year etc, had to look up mine. Oops, there it is at the bottom of my signature  “2024: Strengthen: body, mind, heart-connections” Mind, nothing. Body, work in progress, committed to BB&B in addition to line dancing. Heart-connections, improving, with friends, goddaughter, nephews, pew buddies, dogs and most especially with Joe. The “Move more and fuel better” are just tools to achieving the goal of stronger body. Maybe a 2025 intention of “Choose NOW” (to strengthen body/mind/heart-connections)?
Being without my cell phone for three days showed me how addicted I am to games on phone and obsessive logging of every little action, not just bite/lick/sip. Not exactly mind-strengthening. Is that how I want to invest my precious time?
Today’s gratitude: nephew is being transferred to UNMC because of his heart. He’s been in ICU and had surgery to remove infected chemo port and infection from shoulder, but has many issues due to long uncontrolled diabetes. Just grateful he made it through the night. Every day is a gift.
Later, lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
Move more than yesterday, fuel better than yesterday, live NOW.
Open heart and mind before mouth.
2024: Strengthen: body, mind, heart-connections.

I need to organize my Christmas decorations for sure. Some went up to the storage unit- must have gotten buried because we went up to get the tree but didn't see anything else up there so assumed they were in the van( laded the van but never made it up to storage-we never use the van really)
I thankfully had three boxes of tiny glass ball ornaments and a new strand of lights so the tree wasn't totally bare- none of my inside decorations were there. Ran out of gift bags because they are in one of the missing totes- Everything was just a bit off this year, all the way around7 -

Love y'all,

I understand your need for alone time! I swear when husband retired from the Navy every so often I would say "oh just go out to sea already"! (said in a nice tone now). I know he misses it, but when he retired he was only 38 yrs old so still a young guy.

I'm curious. Did he work after navy retirement for double income? I've always wondered how it works.

MFP Weekly Check-In for December 30, 2024
Rita in Roswell NM - Up 1.5 pounds this week. Just enjoying Holiday Foods too much and drinking wine. I need to get a handle on both. Emotional eating is taking its toll on me, along with not enough walking.
Debbie in Napa Valley CA - finally remembered to weigh this morning. First time all month 149.2 Need to start tracking and also find other exercise- no zumba for January- Teacher will be on vacation. She is going back to the Philippines.
Sue in WA State - First, "thanks" Lanette for keeping up with this. It is is nice way to be accountable. The YM was closed this last week so none of my usual classes. I miss that. That and too many sweets means I am up 2 pounds. Ready for a fresh start.
Barbara on the Oregon Coast - WT Sunday settled down to 130.1 from week's high of 133.2, weekly average up to 131.6 from 130.6, weekly average steps down to 4213 from 6167. Line danced and BB&B once, skipped BB&B and dog group entirely due weather. CI WAY more than CO and sugar WAY up, worse that I've stopped factoring out exercise. AF, PT & Zumba still a bust..
Healthy, safe and peaceful New Year to us all!
Kylia in Ohio - Not my year for weight loss....gained 5 lbs since first of last year. I have the tools just need to do it! Happy weight is 115-120. Currently unhappy at 134.2! Here's to a New Year implementing the tools I have.
Lanette SW WA State - weight holding at 160. Step daily average 6890, up a tad from last week. Still walking with weights 20-30 minutes after eating to let digestion start first. Back to Farmer’s Carry 10-13 lbs.

I remember that feeling with former hubby- he was in the Coast Guard and he would be out for 2 months, up in AK and then home for two months. The first few deployments were hard beings we had only been married 6 months. Near the end of his time in, each time I was ready for a little break when the ship was ready to go out. Got used to that then he got out and was always home.
It was hard on him when he first got out too- 8 jobs in the first year- didn't like some little thing and he would come home for lunch and not go back- That was when I started stashing away extra money from my daycare. I paid all the bills so it was easy to do. Doing that got me through the years I was by myself after he left.6 -

Yep! He got a job after retiring from Navy with 20 years in, as a purchasing agent for the Benicia Bridge project, then also the light rail project in San Francisco (long drive from Vallejo Ca🙄). He then got a job as purchasing agent for Vacaville's Solano County water district, . He was there for 10+ years and gets ret pay from the water district, plus Navy ret. pay. Then our two SS pay, its made our life reasonably comfortable. Of course having eldest son still helping pay his portion of rent and bills helps tremendously too.
