Did one of Cathe’s STS DVD’s and then a Yoga for Weight Loss DVD then took a walk around the neighborhood. Gawd, how I missed this. Yes, I went slower, it’ll just take time for my heel to be better. It’s feeling better than it was a few weeks ago. Then went to Aldi, home and made yogurt in the IP, a pineapple angel food cake for Tues when Ken &Lynette will most likely be over (they’re usually here NYE), a chocolate pudding pie, now making honey glazed carrots, will bake the rolls so we can have them. I’m trying to do as much in advance as possible. I’ll probably make the pineapple casserole. Also made applesauce. It’s unsweetened, so I’ll put sugar on the table in case Ken and/or Lynette need it. Need to get the pork loin and the ice cream, but have to go to Food Lion for that.

Oh, yesterday I had such a horrible experience at the CVS by me. I asked for a raincheck for an item that was on sale. The manager told me there was a limit of how many. When I asked him “since when” he told me it had always been that way. I told him I had rainchecks with larger amounts and was told “well, you won’t get anything if you don’t stop being nasty”. Anyone who knows me knows that I am anything BUT nasty. This is the second time they have refused to give me a raincheck. I then went to another CVS who gave me two rainchecks for 4 items each. I really wanted 8, but they said that sometimes they don’t have 8 in stock so she gave me 2 rainchecks. I did put in a call to have the district mgr call me, wonder if he will?

Heidi – welcome! Where in NC are you? Yes, our fearless barbie starts a new thread every month so be sure to bookmark it and come back. You HAVE to let me know where in NC you are.

Regarding exercise equipment – I just got something in the mail that as of Jan 1 FitOn Health is starting provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC Medicare. Each month I get $112 to spend on fitness places or classes or equipment. I think I’m going to join (can’t hurt and evidently doesn’t cost anything) and at first at least see the quality or lack of in the equipment. Not sure if you can use it for fitness centers outside of NC. Well, my Y membership also includes the Y in FL, something about it being in network. Hey, I can use the Y here and in FL, that’s all that’s important to me

    Lanette – love your weights

HUGS to everyone not feeling well

Rebecca – I have you beat as far as how long I’ve been a member. I joined in 2009.

You know, soon I’ll be 70 and to be honest, in a way I’m embracing it. I remember when I was in my 40’s and 50’s I would be super concerned about my appearance, always have makeup on etc. Now I’ve gotten to the point of “if you don’t like what you see, then don’t look”. I keep myself clean, but I’m not going to go crazy. It’s something to do the exercise DVD’s and realize that I’m modifying not so much because I’m a beginner, but because I’m no longer the age of the people leading the DVD. I’m fine with the person I am. I know it really bothered Vince when he turned 70. It’s really not bothering me. Is that weird, or what?

Have some pulled pork that I got from the soup kitchen a while ago and froze it. Now I’m just going to put bbq sauce on it and then portion it out for Vince.

    Made the pineapple casserole.

Had to go to the bathroom and am having a hot flash so I’m sitting here eating a few frozen grapes.

I’m not making any goals or words either. Like Lisa, they get forgotten by the end of January

Regarding W11: looks like we’ll be getting new desktops since ours won’t support W11. Not sure if the laptops will. Have to check that out

Carol – I think I made that recipe for chocolate icing once! Yes, it was very good

Vince opened the downstairs for the cats so now they can go down there all they want. Personally, I suspect he was getting tired of watching TV upstairs. We were just afraid to do it (2500 sq feet) as we were afraid they’d get lost! Plus...he was concerned that they’d use his speakers as scratching posts. So he put some sort of “barrier” on them (still have to go look at this) to keep them from scratching them along with scratching posts downstairs. But I have a feeling that I can’t do my puzzles, tho. Has anyone had experience with one of those things that you can put the puzzle on and then fold it up. What has your experience been?

Ordered a toiletry bag and it just came in the mail. Before this, I had all my toiletries for when we go away in a plastic bag. I did fine, however, that it was a bit of a pain to have them like this when I had to put them in the bag every night since I couldn't leave them out with the cats, so I got a bag. Looks like it'll work. Not sure what you can use the outside pouch for since there isn't a zipper on it. I would probably use it if there was a zipper. Like I said, not sure what you'd use it for. Anyone have any ideas? Whatever it's used for has to be something that won't fall out since no zipper

Got a decent bicycle ride in today!!

Also dug another section of the front yard. Spent 2 hours with that mattock, but I'll count it as 30 minutes of exercise because I did rest now and then. Wielding the mattock makes me huff and puff although it is getting easier.

Mine is a cutter mattock like this ...

Yesterday, I was reading on the deck of our new place and thinking that it feels like I'm at a holiday rental house. I'm still getting used to the idea that this is our place.

I bet! Thinking a place is like a B & B or holiday rental is a great mindset. An instant mood lifter! You are blessed friend!

    Morning, my darlings...

Doesn't even seem REAL that tomorrow is New Year's Eve, but at the same time, I could not BE more glad that today is Monday. Seriously. Y'all know I adore my husband, but I was glad to see him go back to work. I genuinely love my alone time. I'll put it this way - our long discussion on what it will take to get a woodshop/workshop built before he retires got a lot more interest from me than it might have otherwise. Once he retires, I may need to say "go to your room!" at some point! 👀😂🐈‍⬛

Latest adventures in renovating our 1950s stone house:
For those who know my journey with this house, this will make more sense, but the latest is that we've decided not to go to great lengths to build out a master bedroom suite in this house. The plan is to spend a little to get the two back bedrooms and half bath in working order, rather than try to combine them into a master bedroom.

If you look at the pic below, I'm talking about the two rooms all the way at left. The original plan in the renovations was that we were going to combine them into a big bedroom, walk-through closet, and use the space to turn the half bath into a full bath, plus some storage left over.

    mu6kx1qk4eh8.png
However, we made the decision this weekend that since there's just us, walking across the hall to the big bathroom is not a big deal. That means that all that needs doing is a new vanity and sink and a new wall built between the half bath and one bedroom (which we use as a store room).

You can see the dotted line where the wall must be rebuilt - the half bath was unusable before, as my six-foot tall husband couldn't sit on the toilet without his knees jammed into the wall that was literally six inches from the front of it. So we tore down the wall. We'll put it back in, but two feet from the toilet.

The ceilings (thank goodness) are in great shape, and the walls will need a few ouchies repaired, and paint. Then vinyl plank flooring, and we'll be done. A couple thousand dollars spread across three to six months or so, instead of a massive uproar, 20 grand, and lots more walls knocked down and rebuilt, etc.

That will take care of this year - then in 2026, we'll get a concrete pad laid down about 50 yards (45m) from the back of the house. We'll get that done by experts, preparing for the massive outbuilding that we will have someone else construct in 2027.

It will house a vehicle work area with enough space to get Corey's 1999 truck under shelter. We'll also build in a woodshop/workshop on one end, and outdoor storage for the mowers/trimmers/tillers, etc., on the other. It will be a 40 ft x 40 ft (12.2 meters square) concrete pad, and a 40 x 30 shop, leaving a 10 x 40 concrete apron in front.

The amount that we'll save by NOT creating a master bedroom will go a long way toward building the shop. We need the shop for a number of things we want to accomplish, but we don't NEED a master bedroom suite. It's just where we go to bed, after all.

The irony, of course, is that we're willing to spend the money for a place for the truck to sleep, but not for us to sleep. 👀😂😹

Carol - I hope your BnL's estate can finally be settled. The legal system is so incredibly slow in this country. It's a good reminder that we all need to get our own legal affairs in order before we shuffle off this mortal coil ourselves. Getting the trust set up, with our daughter as the trustee, was huge for me. A lot of peace of mind in one set of documents.

Kylia - Love the pics, looks like a fun time with the grands. My ex-son-in-law has taken away my 8-year-old granddaughter's phone while she's with him for Christmas, so it wasn't possible to talk to her. He's a sorry excuse for a father. 😢 For those who don't know the South, "sorry" is about as bad as it gets when it's used as an adjective.

Tracey - And speaking of the grands, there's a fair chance that when Cruz, her husband, retires, they'll move my daughter immediately - that's about a year away I think, or a year and a half. They may move her up to six months before that. They try not to separate families for more than that in the Army. She was telling me that her choices are mostly in Germany or Alaska, so they may not be a lot closer than Hawaii, if at all. I'm glad you like seeing the inside of my head... there are days that it just makes me tired!

Machka - I'm so glad you've found that place that suits you well. What a beautiful view from your deck! I look forward to seeing the results of your redesign of your yard.

Time to get the usual Monday chores done... my weight is right down the bottom of my maintenance range at 155. Quite happy with that.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa in AR

I understand your need for alone time! I swear when husband retired from the Navy every so often I would say "oh just go out to sea already"! (said in a nice tone now). I know he misses it, but when he retired he was only 38 yrs old so still a young guy.

I'm curious. Did he work after navy retirement for double income? I've always wondered how it works.

    MFP Weekly Check-In for December 30, 2024

Rita in Roswell NM - Up 1.5 pounds this week. Just enjoying Holiday Foods too much and drinking wine. I need to get a handle on both. Emotional eating is taking its toll on me, along with not enough walking.

Debbie in Napa Valley CA - finally remembered to weigh this morning. First time all month 149.2 Need to start tracking and also find other exercise- no zumba for January- Teacher will be on vacation. She is going back to the Philippines.

Sue in WA State - First, "thanks" Lanette for keeping up with this. It is is nice way to be accountable. The YM was closed this last week so none of my usual classes. I miss that. That and too many sweets means I am up 2 pounds. Ready for a fresh start.

Barbara on the Oregon Coast - WT Sunday settled down to 130.1 from week's high of 133.2, weekly average up to 131.6 from 130.6, weekly average steps down to 4213 from 6167. Line danced and BB&B once, skipped BB&B and dog group entirely due weather. CI WAY more than CO and sugar WAY up, worse that I've stopped factoring out exercise. AF, PT & Zumba still a bust..
Healthy, safe and peaceful New Year to us all!

Kylia in Ohio - Not my year for weight loss....gained 5 lbs since first of last year. I have the tools just need to do it! Happy weight is 115-120. Currently unhappy at 134.2! Here's to a New Year implementing the tools I have.

Lanette SW WA State - weight holding at 160. Step daily average 6890, up a tad from last week. Still walking with weights 20-30 minutes after eating to let digestion start first. Back to Farmer’s Carry 10-13 lbs.
