Cat, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I went through cancer nine years ago with surgery, chemo and radiation. So far my yearly check ups have been clear. Horrible disease and my heart goes out to anyone dealing with it.1

I did not know Quebec had lavender fields! Have been to the old town and as far as Ste. Anne de Beaupre. Would love to see more.
Cat, I hope your hubby will make it through and be just fine.
I agree the media is helping to tear this country apart. And I don’t know CA politics, but the National Guard is working there.
Thankfully the air quality is improving a bit. It has been so bad.1 -
Monday weigh in and down almost a pound!
Whew!!!
Goal for this week is half a pound.
Thank you for encouragement and well wishes❤️2 -
Well done, Cat! Still staying the same...hope to see a drop soon.0
-
Scale back up some, took a long walk in the snowy woods. Hope it helps something besides my mood.0

Did my grocery shopping today. No junk. Snacks will be healthy choices if that is all we have in the house.
According to my phone, I walked 3.2 miles this morning just running errands! I had to go to a lot of places. Turned out to be unavoidable exercise. 😂0 -
Grocery shopping today so that will be my walking for the day. Stopped in at a Great Clips and got a much needed hair cut. Hubby has been going to them for awhile and always gets a nice hair cut so I thought I would try. Pleased with the results and so cheap! My hairdresser in our nearest town is starting to cut her days and hours so I was finding it more difficult to make an appointment with her.
Had fast food before we came home as it was getting too late to just drive home. I'm sure I will notice on the scale tomorrow morning. I always go up a bit in weight after a salty meal but know it only lasts a couple of days. Told hubby he is on his own re supper tonight as I'm not making anything.
The more I think about my weight gain this past year the more I get annoyed with myself. I weigh myself every day so knew the scale was going up and up. Should have done something about it months ago. I'm just hoping my sugar levels go back to the normal range once I get a few more pounds off.0 -
Joy, i know several people who lost weight and got out of the pre-diabetic range. Three of them even had sleep apnea disappear. Odds are good that weight loss will get you out of the trouble zone. Great motivation!
No exercise today. I got a new library book and spent the cold afternoon by the fire being a slug with my story. I plan to repent tomorrow 😂. I just didnt have it in me today.0 -
My hubby lost weight and got out of pre-diabetic. Took a lot of work.
Did some sewing and cleaning. Braved the winds for an hour walk. Time to veg out.
Have a great evening!

I have to admit I am worried about ending up diabetic so doing what I can to get out of the pre-diabetic zone. No weight gain this morning so happy about that. Glad to hear that you both know of people who have corrected their pre-diabetic diagnosis. I hope to be able to add a bit of sugar back into my diet once I get this weight off. Would be nice to enjoy a couple of cookies with my afternoon tea. One day at a time and one ounce at a time.1

Joy, you have a great attitude about conquering prediabetes. I know you will be successful.
I only weigh on Mondays. Do you weigh every day? I am wondering if this would be more helpful than once a week.0 -
Personally I don't weigh every day, but I should every other day. It is depressing to see the fluctuations, esp. after a day when I thought I did well.
Another walk—along Lake Ontario where there was pancake ice. So chilly!0 -
I weigh every day but I expect fluctuations and it doesn't bother me. I always record the lowest weight and know if it fluctuates, it will come back down. Salt is a big issue for me. If fluctuations bother you, I would not recommend daily weighing.
Good job on the walking even in chilly weather. Doing my treadmill routine twice a day now. When I was able to walk outside I would walk for 20 minutes in the morning and about 30 in the afternoon. Treadmill is 20 minutes each time. Tried to up the incline just a bit the other day and found it bothered my ankles so set it back down to level. Need to lose a bit more weight before trying that again...don't want any injury.
Cold weather moving in from the north and we are under another severe weather watch. Fairly warm right now and a bit of rain coming down. Supposed to change to snow in the afternoon with snow squalls predicted along with high winds.0 -
Joy, you are so smart to listen to your body to avoid an ankle injury. I learned that lesson the hard way.
I probably wou obsess over fluctuations on the scale. Maybe every Monday is best for me.
I decided not to snack in the evenings anymore. I thnk I have gotten into the bad habit of mindless eating in front of the TV. Trying to be more mindful about that.
I tried chair yoga with a free youtube video. It was more of a workout than I thought it would be. With osteoporosis, I know my exercise needs to be weight bearing, but I recently noticed a decline in flexability. Need to work on that too!0 -
Yes it is good to listen to your body!
Strength training, balance, and flexibility are all important. I have still been doing weights, but should add other types of exercise too. I want to start yoga next month—Silver Sneakers. Want to start slowly.
Another snowy walk, almost like beach walking. I feel it should count for more!

Got through our snow squall yesterday which resulted in near zero visibility for a few hours. Hubby is snow blowing the snow out this morning. Had about 5 inches. Weather is still quite nice but will be dipping down on the weekend to near minus 30 C and staying cold for about 3 days.
Haven't had a drop on the scale this week so may have hit a bit of a plateau. Will see what next week brings.
You are both doing so well with your exercises. I tried stopping my evening snack awhile back and did it for a couple of weeks. Had to go back to my evening snack as I was missing it too much. I just keep mindful of the calorie count and make it a fairly good food choice (no sugar).1 -
Not much walking today but got about 5000 steps at a museum. Went out for lunch and it seemed decadent to have a sandwich with two slices of bread.
It is supposed to be yucky weather the next few days. I will swim tomorrow but would like to try a walk also. May not be possible.
Good luck with the cold weather!

Got my walk in this morning. Mile and a half. Supposed to get bitterly cold and ice/snow tomorrow. Ick! Put on a pot of beans and will make a skillet of cornbread later. This is soup weather!
Going to try to unpack some of the garage boxes and make room for a car in there. My granny van and hubbys double cab truck are both too long to fit in the garage. I am going to have to get a smaller vehicle. Iy wont be as handy when I haul grandkids around with multiple carseats, but I hate parking outside in bad weather.
As I try to declutter the garage, I pull stuff out of boxes and think why on earth did I keep this. Its a real eye opener with regard to what I thought I needed and what I actually did need. If something has been packed for three months, its a pretty good indication that I can live without it.0 -
I would definitely count 5000 steps at a museum as exercise1
-
Our 1957 garage is not super tall but it was built for cars with fins. I predict the next owner will be a motorhead.
Afraid of ice in the morning so car is inside.
We actually had rain today—highly unusual for January. Swimming but no walking.
You are so brave about decluttering!0 -
Had problems getting on here yesterday.
Still pretty cold here with close to minus 30 C but no wind so not too bad. One more cold night then supposed to start warming up. Saw a slight downward dip on the scale this morning and happy about that. Will just continue on coarse with my exercise and eating regime as it seems to be working.
Son sent a video of granddaughter (13 years old) synchro skating competition. The girls looked amazing and ended up with the gold. Fourteen of them all skating in unison. Proud of them.3 -
Bathroom remodel starts tomorrow so I had already packed the scales away. My Monday weigh in will be next week. Tomorrow I go to sons house 2 hours away to keep grandbabies numbers 7 and 8. They are five years old and 19 months. I wont be home til Friday and not sure there will be much time to check in here. I do know they will beg me to go to McDonalds and i will say yes 😬
Figure skating is so beautiful. Skaters always look weightless on the ice. Hard to imagine the effort that goes into that. 14 people in perfect harmony of movement! I didnt know there was such a thing as synchronized skating. In my youth, I did synchronized swimming. Showing my southern roots here.

I didn't know there was such a skating thing either until she started with it 3 years ago.
Enjoy your time with grands!0 -
Agree on the beauty of figure skating. And cannot imagine doing synchronized swimming. Requires a lot of breath control?
I could use a bathroom remodel—sounds daunting but I can’t live with ours as is much longer.
Missing my walking with this frigid cold. Looking forward to a weekend getaway where temps will be in the thirties.Plan on lots of walking!0 -
So bitter today! Walked indoors on the Y track for an hour. Lots of other people there.0
-
Good for you continuing your walking. Warmed up here but winds are continuing.
My bathroom is in need of a redo also....maybe this fall.1 -
Swim today. Somehow I did it. Tomorrow we are headed out for a few days so not sure how much writing I will do. Stay warm, everyone!0
-
Another mild winter day for us. Was down a smidgen on the scale this morning. Checked how much I lost in the last 30 days and it was 2.4 pounds so quite pleased with that. Weight is coming off slowly but steadily.
Looking forward to spring. Got out a couple of seed catalogues to look through and will probably order in the next couple of weeks.1 -
2.4 is excellent! My doc says the slower the weight comes off, the more likely you are to keep it off. She thinks a half pound a week is ideal.
I suspect I have gained with the time with the grandkids. Trying to decide if I weigh tomorrow or wait til the next Monday.0 -
Up .4
Trying to be consistent with exercise this week.1
