Hi....I've been MIA for the last year. I'm back now. I will wait until the next challenge to join in & start posting. I wasn't in the right headspace last year but think I have most things under control. Started walking at least 4 days a week and keeping track of my food. Have lost 6lbs so far this week. That is a good start but know I won't be able to keep that up. I'm hoping to lose 1 to 1.5lbs a week from now on.
See you next month10 -
Nice to see you @Sistersue3285 - great job on the 6 lbs.6

Well, one more week left in January so I’ve accepted not reaching goal. Maybe next round. But I am proud of sticking with the program. Posting for accountability.

I think this is my winter hibernation weight! Very annoying.7 -

This was a shock. I gained weight. I'm not sure what happened. I'd feel better if I knew. I had one bad food day (dinner, wine, dessert) but the rest of the week was O.K.
I'm trying to let it go. I trust the process. I just need to continue. If I do, I can come in with a 4 lb loss for this whole challenge. I should be happy with that.
I've got to forget about this and just concentrate on forward progress. I cannot succumb to disappointment. (That's my scale dependency speaking to me). It's just one week. Onward. There are many rewards for me ahead if I keep with the plan.
Have a healthy and happy week everybody. Thank you for everything.

After 3 years it's finally time to transition to maintainence and I must admit that I'm kind of nervous about it. I know my approximate TDEE based on my current weight and activity level. However I'm hesitant to jump to that calorie level all at once so I plan to add around 100 calories per day (average) and see how it goes.
Even though I've reached my final goal I plan to continue participating in this challenge. It really helps give me incentive to stay on track.
Have a great week!
8 -
@GinLee61 I'm curious about your maintenance strategy. What is your approximate TDEE? What is the difference between your TDEE and your current calorie intake plus 100?
Also, how long will you monitor the plus 100 calories? A week? Two weeks?
I would love to hear how your transition goes. Maintenance is somewhat mysterious to me. Your final goal weight is 145 and your current weight is 143. That's a cushion for you to hopefully experiment with. (And yes!! My scale dependency is screaming at me!)
Congratulations! I have so much admiration for you and what you've accomplished. Good luck. I do hope you stay with us. We can be inspired by you.7 -
@GinLee61 congratulations on reaching maintenance! and yes, please stay with us. You are an inspiration that maintenance is achievable and not a unicorn goal that only exists in the magical MFP world. I would love to hear how your maintenance phase goes, the successes as well as the failures, to help me transition when I finally, if ever, reach my maintenance weight.
I never heard of TDEE. I had to google it. Here’s a link to a free calculator if anyone is interested.

@lclark0497 Thank you for the TDEE calculator. That was very helpful. I thought mine was about 1300 to 1400 but NOOOOOOOOOO it's 1643!!! How cool is that?????? an extra 343 calories!! I'm dreaming now of what I would spend it on.6 -
Thank you @RubyRed427 for continuing this challenge. Thanks to everyone for the useful advice I have read on this thread this week. There's lots of things I need to look at and consider, thanks all. Although I only look at this page once a week, it is reassuring to know that others are in the same situation as me and we are all making progress!
My aims for this month are to: get back to being active - even if the weather isn't great, reduce my bread/pasta/rice/potato intake, try to get at least 7 hours sleep a night and to return to tracking my meals - if only to see what I need to do to get into 130-ville!
My name is Nikki, and I'm 5'3" (on a good day!). I'm based on the south coast in the UK. I'm in my 50s and work full time as a teacher. I'm pretty active - but there's always room for some more.
I've lost my way slightly with the end of term and the start of the Christmas break. It is a little worrying how easily chocolate, sweet things and snack-y things seem to make their way into my mouth, just because it is the holiday!!
Now it's the New Year, I'm heading back to work, which I hope will be easier not to get distracted with not so good food choices! However, I know my colleagues will be bringing in the excesses of Christmas food that they haven't eaten. I'm going to have to stay strong when I walk in the staff room. I am going to log my weight to keep me accountable to myself and remind me that it is possible to lose weight, if I really want to, as shown by my previous progress!
My GW is 133lb
my UGW is 126 - although that is very optimistic!
I weigh in on Thursdays.
Progress so far:
08 Aug - 150
15 Aug - 148 (-2lb)
22 Aug - 145.4 (-2.6lb)
29 Aug - 147 (+1.6lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR AUGUST: 3lb
05 Sept -145.6 (-1.4lb)
12 Sept - 144.6 (-1.0lb)
19 Sept - 144.2 (-0.4lb)
26 Sept - 144.0 (-0.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR SEPTEMBER: 1.6lb
03 Oct - 145.2lb (+1.2lb)
10 Oct -144.2lb (-1.0lb)
17 Oct -144.5lb (+0.3lb)
24 Oct - 143.6lb (-0.9lb)
31 Oct - 144.8lb (+1.2lb)
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR OCTOBER: 0.4lb
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR THIS CHALLENGE: 5.2lb
07 Nov - 143.2lb (-1.6lb) Yay!
14 Nov - 142.8 (-0.4lb) Not much of a change, but I'll take it. It's difficult to stay motivated when the weight loss is so slow. I'm also not doing so well with tracking this week, so I need to get back into the habit.
21 Nov - 143.0 (+0.2lb) Not too bad in the scheme of things, I just need to get back to tracking and being a bit more mindful of what I am eating!! Tracking really is the way to go!!
28 Nov - 142.2 (-0.8) I'm late posting- but this was my weight on Thursday! Hurrah!! Still plenty to work on, but I'm not sure how I had a loss this week! I'll accept it and see how next week looks!
TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS FOR NOVEMBER: 1.0lb Not a huge loss, but a better weight than I have been for sometime!
05 Dec - 141.6 (-0.6lb) although it isn't much of a loss, getting to 141 lb is a big milestone for me. I've not seen that number for a very long time! Don't quite know what I did to get to this weight though. I still haven't gotten around to tracking, but this will become more important in the next few weeks now that Christmas is looming!
12 Dec - 141.6 (0lb) No change, but I haven't been as mindful as I could have been with my food choices, so I am glad to have maintained. I finish work this week - so the challenge will be not to eat everything I can find in the house whilst telling myself "it is a treat"!
19 Dec - 142.5 (+0.9lb) Far too many temptations!!
26 Dec - 144.3 ( +1.8lb) This could be a whole lot worse - so I'll accept it!
TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN FOR DECEMBER: 2.7lb - I was expecting this, but I am still lower than I was at the start of August 2024.
02 Jan - 144.0 (-0.3lb) I don't think I can count this as a loss! Back to work soon, so I'll go back to tracking and looking at ways to be active. The weather outside isn't great for going for a walk!
09 Jan - 144.0lb (0.0lb) I've not gone up, but I've not gone down. I'm still not there with tracking, which isn't great!
16 Jan - 141.4lb (2.6lb) I don't know how this happened, but I'll take it! A busy week which still means that I haven't been putting myself first, which isn't great. I need to get back to focusing on making mindful food choices. I have recently given up Slimming World, which wasn't really working for me, so I am now free-wheeling. Not sure if this is a good thing, but the numbers on the scale will catch up with me eventually!
23 Jan - 142.8lb (1.4lb) I don't think I've done very well on this round, but I am posting to continue to make myself accountable. I'm hoping the next round will be better.
30 Jan
Have a good week everyone!7 -
4 days left! Let's finish strong!7
-
@GinLee61
Congratulations on reaching your goal! I'll be watching -- and rooting for you -- during maintenance.
During my initial weight loss effort (which took about 1½ years), I managed to lose 105 pounds to get down below my goal weight of 230. Since then, ~3 years ago, I've gained back ~35 pounds. So clearly, I failed at the task of maintenance. I'm trying now to get back to that weight, so I can have another go at maintenance.
Some days it's easy, some days it's hard. But it's a journey without end. Never let yourself be deterred from pursuing (and staying at) that goal.

@SunnyDays930 Thank you. I needed that. Finish strong!!!!! Four days strong!6

Goal weight 150 to 160
I know that is quite a difference but I'm losing weight to feel better & help with the arthritis. I have arthritis in my knees & lower back. If at 160 I'm feeling better & looking better then I won't push myself too hard to get lower as I find that for me trying to hit a very "specific" weight is overwhelming & very challenging.
I would rather have a range I can stay in & am more motivated to stay in the range then at a specific weight. I find I get easily frustrated when I gain & go over my weight goal so having a range works much better for my anxiety.
My Plan
My exercise plan is walking 4 to 5 days a week for about 30 to 45 minutes.
I'm going to try line dancing once a week.
Going to track my good at least 5 days a week.
Drink more water. I don't drink nearly enough water. Going to start with at least 3 glasses a day.
See you next month

I’m 62 and retired. I’m proud of the work I put in this week, and I want to keep the momentum going. I tracked everything. I’m usually lazy and stop after dinner and that’s when I snack. They add up quickly and getting back to tracking was a good reminder. My scale isn’t going to move if I’m not in a calorie deficit. I can only exercise my way out of a bad eating day to a point. I’ll see everyone next month. I love reading all the posts, positive and negative. It helps me to know I’m not alone in this journey. I started the challenge 155.2. I went up and down over the holidays and began in January the same weight. My UGW would be around 145ish.

01/28-191.2-(Trend Weight: 192.5)- It’s been a very rough week and most of it I have spent hovering in the 192 range. I’ve had a successful last 2 days and that has turned things around for me. I just need to keep up the mindset and remember that it is not a diet, it’s a lifestyle, and that I need to continually and always make better choices for myself.
01/31-191.2-(Trend Weight: 192.4)- Much better than what I’ve been seeing since the 20th. I had one day of travel these past couple of days, but I think I handled it well with no gain the following day. That really helped the cause. Down 1.4 lbs this month. Dreaming of my summer clothes and hoping they will fit still. It’s only a few short months away! I’ll have to look at my stats and see where I stood last summer. Fingers crossed! I had an overall gain of 0.6 for the entire challenge but I don’t feel like talking about that lol. It’s been a l…o…n…g winter!
