I’m going to a fundraiser dance for our hospice tonight with my husband. I never know anyone at it so it's usually a long quiet night of nodding and smiling. I'm not particularly looking forward to it but
sometimes these thing can surprise you!
@daria0919 - Thanks for the advise. I phoned and made a doctors appointed for next Wednesday and will go from there. I only buy runners for over pronation and avoid completely flat shoes or put in the shop bought arch supports.5 -
Parkrun 5k this morning. Nice to be running pain free but need to work on getting my speed back. Dragged my niece (21) and my daughter (12) along. Niece did well and will return. Daughter hated it, and will return!7

February Goal: 125 miles
2/18: 6.26 miles
2/20: 2.62 miles
101.66/125 miles completed for February
I didn't run on Wednesday. It was 12°F feels like -7° when I got up and it was windy. Even Pup didn't want to go outside and she is a collie and likes the cold weather. But yesterday I decided to brave the cold. The temperature was a little lower, 10°F, but it wasn't as windy and the feels like temperature was 1°. I didn't run far. Just 2.62 miles. I was cold, but I was dressed ok. It was mostly just my fingers and toes that were uncomfortable. My watch did that thing again where it died on me mid run. I have been trying to decide if it is a cold issue or a battery issue. I have been charging it every night, so maybe it is the cold. I have the zombies run app and they have a radio mode, so I have been listening to that even when there isn't a new episode. It tracks my run using my phone GPS so I have a backup. Yesterday I looked at my watch when I was at 1.97 miles. When I looked down a few steps later expecting to see 2 miles I saw my watch shut off. I was just leaving the park at a spot that I know is .62 miles from my house. And zombies run showed that I ran 2.62 miles so I feel confident of my mileage.
My Garmin started showing sensor issues several months ago, eventually the sensors stopped recording anything (re: my earlier post about 'detraining'). As I knew I wasn't remotely 'detraining' and had other methods to record HR, I wasn't too fussed about it, as it still recorded distance/pace/etc ; of course, my overall Garmin Stats were extensively crappy, but I wasn't too fussed about those either.
This past week the battery charging changed, substantially, and one day I woke to a dead watch.
Got it charged & working, but no longer trusted it & I wanted a birthday gift; I found a good deal on a older model. I hope your watch is fine!!5 -

54.30/80 miles goal
I did a treadmill session this morning. The run/walk portion was 4.5-5.5/4.0 mph for various times. I did run more and fewer walk breaks than yesterday, but somehow it was 13 sec/mile slower. I guess not making it up to 5.6 mph was the issue. Anyway, I was okay with the avg pace of 12:41 min/mile. Avg HR was 130 with a max of 157 bpm.
Nice run/walk @quilteryoyo !

You could do me a big favor @kgirlhart My FR745 is sitting here unused, it probably has a year or more of life in it. Send me a PM and I'll send it to you. Knowing it isn't going to waste would be a big plus for me.4 -
@tarun_yadavA So sorry you are sidelined, but glad it seems like if you let your foot recover that you can run pain free again! Your foot does look quite flat.
@ContraryMaryMary It sounds like you had a successful park run! I’m glad your daughter will return despite “hating it”.
Today I did a 6.5km recovery run on the treadmill, some mobility exercises and some arm strength training. My legs are still quite tired both from my long run and from weight lifting a couple days ago, so trying to take it easy and let them recover.
239.3/301km.4 -
@Mari33a Have fun with your husband at the fundraiser tonight. Hopefully you can get some dancing moves in. Hope your doctor's appointment goes well next week.
Thanks @John772016 . You are doing great. I'm thankful for my treadmill a lot!
Nice recovery @Laurz9191 .
Great parkrun @ContraryMaryMary ! Glad your niece and daughter plan to go back. You are being a very good roll model for them.5 -
Morning all.30 mins bike, 30 mins rower.
Wanted to do some dumbbells but it's Saturday morning and every 12kg-18kg one was in use, so will probably do weights on Mondays and say, Thursdays.
Bleurgh. Can't help but feel. 60 mins worth of running - woulda run a 10K or upto 6.5 miles and burnt ~900 calories.
This feels so energy inefficient.
As for orthotics. I did get them tweaked about 2 or so years ago when I was having MCL/gastrocnemius pain. But that was just some tape on the heel.
You can see here... It's just collapsed and there's actually a crack through it.
16years it had a good run!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Will check in from time to time over next 3 weeks8 -
Good workout @tarun_yadavA! Yes, not the calorie burn one would prefer over 60 minutes, but great that you hit the gym!
Oh my, that orthotic is definitely ready for a grand burial ceremony!
Have a lovely weekend! Cheers!3 -
Thanks for checking in @tarun_yadavA ! You did great, even if you didn't burn the calories you are used to. That gym looks pretty busy. You'll be ready for a nice run in 3 weeks.

I know you are among the golden "maintainers" here. Kudos. Will you address this change in easy regular calorie expenditure (long runs) by modifying your food/diet?
For instance moving toward lower carbs, lower calories, or something along those lines. Hypothetically a maintainer who pounds out a five mile loop everyday completely lost the ability to do those runs, what are shifts to maintain weight/health/satisfaction etc.
With only 3 weeks I am sure you could ignore all this and wait until you are healthfully running again, but this is food for thought.
My stress fracture in 4/2020 probably needed a few months for recovery, and I am going on five years of not fully recovering that fitness. --- Though I remain optimistic
I do hope you are able to check-in.4 -

I finally got out about 3:15 yesterday for my run. It was 36°F so finally above freezing and not windy. The sun never really came out though and it was still cold. The run was good and I ran 6.5 miles. But I am ready for some warmer weather. I didn't have any trouble with my watch today, but I hate that I don't really trust it.
Thanks @John772016!

Tough morning with my 3:54 mile walk/jog - explanation's in spoiler below:Short story: I was at about 3 miles of the 3.5 10KTT route this morning - heading back toward the Y. Doing a light jog - all was good. Saw 5 deer (about 1/4 mile ahead) run across the road sprinting to avoid cars (deer moving from my right to my left).
On the far side of the road I can see a deer writhing in pain on someone’s driveway. It kept trying to get up, couldn’t would roll over, fall keep trying and continue to writhe in pain. I saw a white vehicle stopped near the deer and one of the other coaches ran across the street toward the deer and the man. By then I was in earshot of that coach and asked if the man hit the deer and she said no. I was still jogging toward them looking her way across the street when I tripped over a raised block of sidewalk. I was so very worried about that deer that I forgot about taking care of myself and wasn’t looking ahead.
I did a Superman dive onto the sidewalk, scraping both palms, right one pretty badly. I also landed hard on my right knee in the process.
Knee above the knee cap is swollen and bruised. Both my palms are raw. Happy to find I didn’t break anything (did go to an urgent care place where they took x-rays as a precaution).
I still feel very bad about the deer. I heard from the other coach that animal control came and said the deer had broken its neck when it fell while running across the road. I keep thinking about how horribly in pain it must have been. Animal control put the deer down.
Ok, maybe that was the long story…
At home now after working this afternoon - will keep icing knee and elevate it.10 -

I'm in Las Vegas for the Rock n Roll LV HM. Arrived this morning, went to packet pickup, got checked in at the hotel, ate some lunch and ended up running on the treadmill. By the afternoon it's busy enough on the strip that running would have been pretty much impossible and I wasn't going to take the time to Uber out somewhere to run so I went to the hotel gym. It worked. I got my shakeout done. My legs feel decent. The rest day yesterday helped a lot. I did a walk on the treadmill, a stretch class, and a massage. All the recovery.
I have a reservation at water grill for dinner and I'm looking forward to it. It's a seafood restaurant, which I love but rarely get to eat. My husband is vegetarian and seafood restaurants are almost impossible for vegetarians. So, I tend to visit them when I'm traveling alone.9 -
Good job getting to the gym @tarun_yadavA. It's hard having to completely rework your exercises to accommodate your foot issues. I however find it super annoying that a 10k gives you about 900 cals. That would be about 550 for me.2
-
@martaindale have a wonderful time at your HM!! Enjoy!1
-
You're doing great @kgirlhart . I hope those TX temps warm up soon...and you get some sun.
@daria0919 Oh no! I'm glad that you didn't break anything! Sorry about the deer. I hate it when things like that happen. I wonder what made the deer fall. Was it icy? I hope you aren't too sore in the morning.
@martaindale Enjoy your dinner and good luck with the HM tomorrow night! Look forward to hearing how it goes. I started to say something similar to @tarun_yadavA , but didn't. It is disheartening. I went 5.6 miles this morning and burned 560 calories.3 -

59.90/80 miles goal
I did a treadmill wun this morning. I ran the first 3.75 miles at a faster pace: 4.5/4.7/4.0 for 2/2/1 min then 4.9-5.9/4.0 for 2/1min, and 6.1-6.2/5.0/4.0 for 1/1/1 min. I thought I had hit the segment button on my watch so I could see what that pace was, but didn't and then couldn't figure it out after I finished. I did run another mile at 4.5/4.0 for 2/1 min. Total avg pace for the run was 12:51 min/mile. Avg HR was 130 with a max of 152 bpm.

@quilteryoyo I guess the deer possibly tripped because of the curb, or tried to dive over bushes - not totally sure.2
-
Good luck tomorrow @martaindale!
@daria0919 That is so sad. I am glad nothing was broken and hope you aren't too sore tomorrow.
@quilteryoyo Today was lovely. I took a rest day, but tomorrow should be really nice and we should have good weather all week.2 -
A 10k trail a walk with a friend today. Very scenic. Plenty of elevation.
Pics:7 -
@daria0919 that is hard and glad you are "mostly" ok after your fall. Mother nature can be cruel. I have lost at least half of the 8 purple martins who arrived early this year. I think it was just too cold. I found most of them huddled up in one of the gourds. I am not sure there was anything I could have done. I kick myself maybe I could have found some pine needles or straw to help insulate or put some handwarmers inside but I think we all second guess things after the fact.
Enjoy your Vegas half today @martaindale !!!! Looking forward to seeing your fun costume.
It's warmed up this morning - in the 40's finally so hoping the rest of the martins will be able to find food and be ok.
Speaking of tech hazing us. My fitbit's new cardio load algarhythm decided that I was no longer maintaining fitness because I was not putting in 8 plus per day or playing tennis. silly thing. I did 10 yesterday in 2 goes. And I think I am making progress because previously when I was doing 2 per days to get extra mileage my cardio recovery was poor and I could tell I was overtraining. Now when I do a 2 per, I get good recovery. Of course once it gets HOT again those will go out the window.
Great job getting to the gym @tarun_yadavA and like Sarah I am jealous of those calorie burns. I cannot do ellipitcals anymore as they hurt my knee badkly (contrary to all dr opinion the stress is on every part of the range of motion which flares my meniscus tear up while running does not)
@quilteryoyo I think your pace is improving... It's funny how it comes and goes at least for me. Yesterday my ,25 splits were mostly over 12 even tho I did not feel like I was slogging but after about 3 miles they started to come down which I guess I was loosening up and my strides were getting longer. I suppose I could see what my apple watch data has to say as it tracks all of that but see above comment about tech... just gonna go with the feel of it.
167 now for the month which for a short month I am quite proud of.6 -
@SummerSkier wrote: »Also there is a post in the community forums that come march 1 they are changing the BB code. Not sure how it will effect us but I am guessing things will work a little different. Expect it to be broke for a few weeks...😂
I already have March ready to post (saved in draft for now) It will not change the post, but I can see some useful things to make the Challenge post cleaner. Looks like it will be March 4 before it changes to rich editor. So, possible, I can learn a few things before the April post.

Hi everyone!
@tarun_yadavA Good job getting to the gym! You are very disciplined and go with what works! As a previous college rower, maybe the rowing will help you be even a bit stronger of a runner in 3 weeks, even if you aren’t burning quite as many calories. I got my fastest overall 10km time while rowing and haven’t gotten anywhere near as fast since - could also be partly due to my age and intense weight lifting we did though. And yeah, 900 calories for a 10k is a lot! A 10k for me is not even 700
.
@daria0919 I am so sorry to hear about your fall and about the deer! That is so sad. At least they were able to end the deer’s suffering!
@martaindale I hope you have a great race and that we get to see some pictures!
@ContraryMaryMary That looks like a lovely and scenic hike!!!2 -
I had a 30 minute tempo run with a 30 minute warm up and cool down planned. I was a bit slow on some of my splits but felt really good running at the same time. After the tempo part was over and I was supposed to slow down, I just couldn’t really slow down that much. So that made the overall pace actually quite fast in comparison to my average runs and it felt really good. I ran 16.6km.
The weather shifted from -6 Celsius with snow to +8 and sunshine in less than a week and today’s run was the first day this year I wore shorts outside. It was very nice.
255.9/301km for February.7 -
@daria0919 so sad for the deer,
