This was the quote "The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want the MOST for what they want at the MOMENT."

I found that quote at the bottom of someone's post when I first joined MFP and I adopted it as my own. Feel free to make it yours. It has inspired me to do the right thing. It helped me learn to say no to birthday cake and stay away from the snack table as well as put on my raincoat and take the dogs for a walk in the rain when there was a couch and a blanket calling my name.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I think my goal was to lose 70 pounds so I guess I'm below my goal but above some other magic number. I don't know how anyone stays at the same weight every day. My weight bounces around a pound or two all the time but this time hasn't bounced down far enough. I don't want to be crazy and obsessive, just smart and disciplined

 Barbie: I know what you mean about bouncing around. I am still trying to get down to my
ticker weight again. I thought now that the boat is out of the water I can be more
disciplined on the weekends. Now Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up this
weekend. There is always something tempting just around the corner.:drinker:

 Marie: The receipe you posted sounded delicious but I have to agree with Barbie, the ketchup
which is full of sugar and the boullion cubes are full of sodium.
Two things you might consider replacing with something healthier.
When you have high bloodpressure and type 2 diabetes
like myself you become a detective on food and what not to eat.

 LaVerne: Welcome to the group:flowerforyou:

 Sandy: You are too funny even when you try not to be.
I remember seeing a post on the forum about someone looking for gluten free
receipes for their grandchild if I'm not mistaken.

I probably missed someone but what the heck we are old what can we say

I haven't been here much the past couple of days so I feel that I have missed out on everyone's lives. Today was another, no I take that back, it was the worse day at work that I have had in quite a while. We are down an employee and we got dumped on. I had trouble finding the time to breath. I hate days like this. I do plan on going to the YMCA later tonight.

Just saying Hi today, cleaning day and I am going to visit my
girlfriend who just had knee replacement surgery after I am finished.
She is going crazy already being at home.
She has to leave her knee brace on for six weeks.
Yesterday her daughter, who is a nurse, just took out her
staples. On the road to healing.

    Read all posts tomorrow.

    Have a lovely day ladies.

:flowerforyou: Marie, I actually was here this morning. Typed a long post and then hit the wrong key. When I do that, I usually just give up and log off. So frustrating. I was here about 7:00.

I did a really bad thing today. I had fried chicken for lunch. I have been craving it for a long time. One of my most favorite foods. I had one thigh and one leg. And, guess what ??? I still feel hungry !!! That's what happens when you put bad stuff in your body.

Happy Wednesday!! Another beautiful day, I am grateful. They are predicting another terrible winter for the Chicago area with extreme cold temps and blizzards. Asked my son and his girl if I can go live with them for the winter.  Daisy and hubby would miss me too much so I am stuck here in the cold. :grumble: Cleaning girl was here so got to ride the stationary bike earlier than usual which is good since I have a couple of errands to run. Things are going well with Sadie (the dog) and Daisy will probably be lonely when she goes home Saturday. I told my hubby maybe we should get another puppy to keep her company.

Becky, sometimes it is better to give into your craving as long as you don't do it daily. Put in your calories and see how many you have left for the day, if not enough to keep you happy then do a little more exercise, maybe just walking in place while watching TV or something.

Marie, for not opening another window you did great in addressing everyone, is your memory that good? I am sure I am not explaining the second window correctly so wait for Alice and she will be able to show you.

Maddie, that is your name right? You are a funny lady and love your sense of humor.

Hi Gayla, we are still here too!! Enjoy your Wednesday!!!

Buzz, when you do have time you sure can write.

Barbie, 70 pounds is an incredible loss and maintaining it is even better. I am like you, I don't want to lose too much and look sickly but I would like to not go over 125 which was my second goal. I seem to be maintaining it most of the time, but would like to get to 123 so if I do flucuate I will only see 125 as my highest. :ohwell:

Laverne and Pat, I hope we hear from you soon.

    Have a great day!!
  • Hi everyone. It is Not going well. We got a trip which needs to be nonstop except for fuel. That just ruins three meals per day! I didnt bring any food with us coz I didnt want to eat that stuff. I wanted to eat the big salad and good veggies. Not room in the little fridge except for one day maybe two of salads. Sigh, will rethink it all. Will still leave off starches when I can. Read the posts, have a good one

Just popping in to say a quick hello - off to zumba shortly - I do 3 mornings of exercise now at the YMCA and am finding it a lot better than just going on the treadmill - yesterday at aerobics we celebrated a 90th birthday and all had a piece of birthday cake - all that exercise for nothing but it's great to see all the oldies there ...truly an inspiration.

Have a lovely day everyone...thinking of you all.

    Hello Seniors,
Well this morning we went to meet my son in town for coffee and a nice visit. Then I went to the dentist, I lost 2 fillings because they were so old and that took 1 1/2 hrs. Then we went to our senior luncheon in Frenchtown (this is the town I live in, in Mt). Then came home and walked for 26 mins.

I am reading the book "The Help", I am enjoying it. I am trying to finish it by this weekend so when I go to Wa. to my DD she can read it. I have been reading it since Sunday.

    No canning today.

I have been doing very well on my diet and so has my DH, so we will continue it.

Ok got to go, see you tomorrow.

    Hello all,

Marie, don't worry. I have been just awful about posting. I'm afraid my mind is definitely elsewhere. My DH and I do crossword puzzles together. We do the same one and I usually beat him. We did 2 in a row and he beat me both times. Oh My!!

Sandy, I'm afraid my tatooes are very little. 3 little spots. One in the middle just below my breasts and the others, one on each side. They look like speckles or freckles. Not too inspiring.

I'm not doing too well in the food category. I haven't recorded for a couple of days and I know I am eating more than I usually do. Comfort food -- shepherd's pie, chocolate cookies -- 2 of them, a small handful of nuts and tortilla chips and hummus last night. Oh well. Hopefully, I'll be rid of this pre-radiation anxiety soon and get back on with my life. We are going to our DD's for Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. That should be lots of fun.

    Good night all.

    Jake went to Costco to buy string cheese for our trip this weekend and they didn't have any so he bought a huge jar of fancy whole cashews
something I can't resist. Between the two of us the jar is half empty. He knows he did a bad thing but they are so delicious and, at least, they are more healthy than M&Ms.

 the two guys were here today from 7:45 AM to 6:30 PM to install the new heat pump, furnace, and programmable thermostat.   now we have to get busy packing for our trip  we leave at noon tomorrow after my line dance class.

:flowerforyou: Aw, Barbie...I was thinking the same thing as I was reading this...it could have been chocolates.

:flowerforyou: Jeri, I have a recipe (at home) for shepherd's pie that I think I got from either Weight Watcher's or Cooking Light. It has less calories than the traditional one and my entire family loves it. I would so love to have a tattoo. I have one picked out and want it put where not too many people will be able to see it. But,,,,my husband says NO.

:flowerforyou: Oh my gosh, Sandy...these are sooo funny. Thanks for the laughs.

    Morning;

 Sandy: Just love those ads they are great and especially about the dogs.
 Jeri: My daughter has a a large tatoo at the base of the neck some chinese saying.
Then if you follow her spine down she has the 7 Chakras down her spine. They are
tastefully done and the colors are beautiful. I am too much of a chicken and don't
like needles to have a tatoo.
 Marie: Love your new pic of the Cowboys. Go team!
 Becky: I wouldn't mind that WW receipe of Shepherds Pie if you don't mind.

It is our Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday and I will be leaving for the cottage (mother in laws)
tomorrow at 6:00am no sleeping in:sad: We hope to stay only until Sat. afternoon and then
head home. Dave has to close it down for the summer. It is really a house but we still
call it the cottage because that was what it was at one time.

Not eating right and lots of alcohol, they are a drinking family. :drinker:
On the way home we will be pick up my oldest daughter to come back to our house for the
weekend. The weather on Sunday should be beautiful at least 80 degrees.

Dave took Wednesday and Thursday off this week to work on our boat and do some repairs.
Working on a used boat never ends but he loves it.

    Have a great day all!!

Loved the welcome Oct. , Sandy so cute:heart::heart:  thank you.

Speaking of Oct, My goal is to stay on my plan for all of Oct.Sept was a good month for me and hope Oct s even better.
I made a big chopped salad yesterday with lots of veggies cabbage brocoli , and a bag of brocoli, slaw chopped up, 1 apple chopped,It made so much iI I put half in a container without the dressing hoping it will keep longer. so delish. i have decided for this week I will eat 1 cup of beans, 1 c of chopped salad no cook veggies this week, since I have plenty or raw veggies in the chopped salad I will see ow this is playing out.

Happy October everyone So glad to have the honor of spending a another month with you all. Lets make this the best ever for all of us  Marie.
What kind of dressing do you use on it?

Happy Thursday!! Our Indian summer is here and I am loving it!! Today is my meeting although I will be leaving it 15 minutes early since my husband has an emergency dental appointment because a piece of his temporary tooth broke off. :grumble: We really don't want to leave the two dogs home alone although I think they would be fine, they seem to nothing but sleep. Sadie is 10 years old and seems to have some trouble walking so Daisy is being nice and letting her alone even though she would love to play all day. Hence the reason for me saying maybe a puppy would be good for her. :noway:

Becky, I would be too afraid of the pain for a tattoo and worry about what it would like like for an 80 year old to have a tattoo. Those that are hidden and small are okay but those that cover half the body are ugly to me. My single son has two eyes on the back of his neck, so when people ask do you have eyes on the back of your head he can say yes.

Barbie, cashews would be my weakness also, I love them so I don't buy them. :noway: Babe's daughter is always sending nuts and peanuts to her dad for different occasions, I make him hide them in the basement. Have a great trip although I can't remember where you are going.

Jeri, I wouldn't worry about the food for now, you eat healthy most of the time so a little comfort food at this time is understandable. A lot of talk about shepherd's pie, is this something healthy and good? Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

Marie, still going strong with your new way of eating, I am so proud of you. How has your blood sugar been? :flowerforyou: I admire you for planning your meals in advance, I swear I don't know what we are having for dinner until I get ready to make dinner.

Buzz, lobster for $10.95? Lobster tail or whole lobster or what?? I love lobster but with melted butter so I really don't eat it anymore. :noway:

Chris, I feel your pain at the dentist. Is the book "The Help" the same as the current movie that is now out?

Judy, so nice hearing from you, staying active is good, exercising is good, birthday cake not so good. :noway:

Phoebe, good luck with finding healthy food on the road, you will figure it out. I talked to Katie on the phone and again she told me how generous you were with your package and she said a letter is in the mail to you. It takes almost a month for letters and packages to arrive just so you know.

Yesterday I went to Target to get a gift card for a birthday gift. I bought my Christmas lights that needed replacing so I didn't have to worry about it later and a lot of other things but came home without the gift card, the one thing I went to buy. :explode: This getting old is playing with my mind or is it because I try to do too many things at once. I will leave early for my meeting and just go for the gift card this time and maybe I won't forget it.

    Have a nice day!!

TWO OF THE YEAR'S BEST COMEBACK RESPONSES
    Number 1:
If you ever testify in court, you might wish you could have been as sharp as this policeman. He was being cross-examined by a defense attorney during a felony trial. The lawyer was trying to undermine the police officer's credibility ....

Q: 'Officer --- did you see my client fleeing the scene?'

A: 'No sir. But I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender, running several blocks away.'

Q: 'Officer -- who provided this description?'

A: 'The officer who responded to the scene.'

Q: 'A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?'

A: 'Yes, sir. With my life.'

Q: 'With your life? Let me ask you this then officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties?'

    A: 'Yes sir, we do!'

Q: 'And do you have a locker in the room?'

    A: 'Yes, sir, .. I do.'

Q: 'And do you have a lock on your locker?'

    A: 'Yes, sir.'

Q: 'Now, ... why is it, officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your life, you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with these same officers?'

A: 'You see, sir -- we share the building with the court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room.'

The courtroom EXPLODED with laughter, and a prompt recess was called. The officer on the stand has been nominated for this year's 'Best Comeback' line -- and we think he'll win.

    Number 2:

Now We Know Why He Was a General
In an recent interview, General Norman Schwarzkopf was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness toward the people who have harbored and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks on America.

    His answer was classic Schwarzkopf.

The General said, "I believe that forgiving them is God's function .... OUR job is to arrange the meeting."

You have got to love them both!

    Hello seniors,

Sandy, The help book is the same as the movie but I wanted to read the book first.

Marie, You know all of us don't you? Do you have a list of everyone's birhday so I can send a happy birthday to everyone.

Today we met our son again for coffee and then we all went grocery shopping. Our store had a 13 hour meat sale and meat, fish, chicken, pork, and turkey was on sale at really good prices. I spent $71.00 on turkey breasts, salmon, turkey tenderlion, turkey brats, turkey sausage so I am prepared. I love saving a buck.

Came home and made taco salad made with turkey burger for lunch. I want to go for a walk soon too.

Went to the farm and bought spagetti squash and pumpkins. My son is bringing more corn on the cob from the farm tomorrow.

Our apples have been falling off the tree but we still are picking them. They are so good.

This weekend I may drive to Spokane Wa. alone as my DH has things to do.

    Take care, Chris

Welcome Kim!! It seems I missed your post while I was typing mine this morning, so sorry.:blushing:

I don't think I have your birthday on the list Chris, just give me the date and I will add it.

Marie, you are the biggest influence of all, you never give up and inspire us daily.

Shirley, you also sneaked in while I was posting this morning. Happy Thanksgiving and have fun at the cottage. :flowerforyou:

Just got home from my meeting and have some computer work to do, so will check in later.

    Hi all,
Well, I am back at it! Hoping to get it together this time. Downloaded the app to my iPad but because I have to use a text to speech reader, it did not work. Today I decided to go directly to the web site and wha-la there it was!

Looking forward to spending time with you!
