Kathy..I also bought a pedometer and I haven't set either one of them up yet. I didn't know that there would be a big difference between what the machines say and the heart monitor. I have been going by the machines.
Our whole family are animal lovers. We have three cats (only one of their owners lives here), the dog, a rabbit and my husband raises cockatiels. He has six of them at this time.0 -

I love hearing about everyone's pets. We have two dogs and two cats. I woke up in the middle of the night to find all four animals in bed with me and my husband on the hide-a-bed in the living room because they pushed him out of bed:laugh:
I awoke at 7 AM to pouring rain......rain so bad that even the poodles didn't like it. I count my dog walking calories because we walk up and down a steep hill for about 10 minutes per dog. I thought there would be no dog park walk today so I fixed my husband and me a fancier breakfast (eggbeaters omelet with peppers, onion, and spinach, toast, and salsa). When I left the table after breakfast the sun was shining and the dogs were dogging my footsteps waiting for me to take them to the park. We went and found that the rain had been replaced by howling winds. The dogs loved the wind and I couldn't wait to get home.
After a hugely successful March---I went from 174 to 166----8 pounds lost, YIPPEE and lots of exercise on the stationery bike and twice a week strength training, and tracking my foods each day, I am looking toward a more challenging April
I'm going to take April one day at a time and meet the challenges as they come (four days in a hotel will start the month)
Kathy---keep the cartoons coming---you bring such joy to my life
I love how you don't give up even when there are bumps in the road. Having a bit of a setback hasn't sent you back to a life of pizza and ice cream......you keep picking yourself up with humor and a new resolve.
Katkat--welcome--we need all the help we can get--this is a great thread---lots of motivation and support:bigsmile: :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Becky---you inspire me with the way you've bounced back from your surgery and you never give up.
Susan---you give me hope that going on vacation won't totally derail the momentum I have. Your cat in the garden is darling:bigsmile:
Big cyber hugs to everyone---we can do this:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
Welcome Katkat. Glad you found us. Be thinking about your goals for April and we'll post a new thread tomorrow - and that's no April Fools!
Kathy - I love your cartoons. How do you get those in there?
Barbie - you are amazing. WOW! I want to be there by the end of April - down 8 pounds. But I'll make my goal 5 and be extra blessed if I get down 8!
I just returned from my workout and I feel energized. Now to keep on moving and do some much needed cleaning of my home! And paying bills :ohwell:
Have a great day everyone. I'll post another thread late tonight so that it will be there early tomorrow for those of you on the other side of the continent!

hello everybody!!!!!!
Welcome Katkat - sounds like you have a huge goal!!!!! 20 pounds by memorial day! You can do it! There is so much positiveness (is that a word?) and support with this great group of women!
Barbie!!!!!!!:drinker: you inspire me! EIGHT pounds in March! OMG! that is absolutely amazing! And you walk in rain, in wind.........i don't even want to walk where the dead COW is!!!!!!!:grumble: I'm so proud of you!
Kathy - WOW - you work out like crazy! So glad how you bounced back after all your challanges this month! You're doing great.
Hey Esther! I know, Kathy's cartoons, right? SO COOL!
I'm excited tomorrow's a new month - just so long as all our computers don't crash from the crazy virus thats supposed to be going around!!!!!!!!!
I've SO downsized as far as the animals go - 3 dogs, 2 cats and 1 horse. Then of course there are the 3 tom turkeys that hang out at my house - lol. When my kids were growing up we had everything - goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, donkey, cow, more horses, more dogs and cats........pigs. it was a regular petting zoo around here! NOW i don't want to do all the work by myself!
OK - see you all for tomorrow new goal setting! Have a great rest of the day and a good night. I'm going to work out after i get off work!

Hi, I have started cooking either red beans and brown rice or black beans and brown rice once a week. I add lowfat sour cream, lowfat cheese and onion on top it is very good and very low calorie.
I also make talapia with jerk seasoning very quick and easy plus it is not fishy. That is spicy . Grilled wild salmon is also very good I do not like the farm raised it is to FISHY. Also steamed shrimp, as well as frattas for dinner if he likes egg dishes. Hope these suggestions help.

Hi Elli, :flowerforyou: We lived on a farm for a few years and I thought I'd like to have goats and chickens but when I asked people who had them to tell me about raising them, the first thing they said was, "Well, every morning I get up early and........." so I decided that I already had enough stuff to do when I go up in the morning and still had to be at work 20 miles away at 7:30 so I gave up on the idea of farm animals.  My dogs are so sweet and appealing that I can deny them nothing
but I wouldn't walk them near a dead cow either.
Lynn::bigsmile: Thanks for sharing your yummy food ideas. We're always looking for something with a little spice and pizazz.
Esther, thanks for taking care of us by posting the new thread. I'm thinking hard about my goals for April. Setting goals and being in touch with all of you has been hugely important to me.
I went to my husband's Isagenix meeting today at lunchtime and I had Isagenix stuff for lunch. I feel like a fraud at their meeting because, except for an occasional shake, I'm not following their program at all. But one woman asked me about the site where I track my meals and wrote it down.
Now it's time for more exercise:bigsmile:  and water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Hello Ladies,
:flowerforyou: Barbie, Boy I relate to your husband sleeping on the hid-a-bed. As you might know my hubby works the midnight shif. Bosco some times comes in and sleeps with me. BUT, come the weekend he almost insist. He has to sleep inbetween my hubby and I. I sometimes end up on the couch. However, I don't go down with out a fight.
Yes, :flowerforyou: Barbie some dogs are great for burning calories while walking that is for sure. Just not Bosco.
Congratulations. 8 pounds. WOW.
:flowerforyou: Barbie, I will try to make you laugh. I have to or I will go insane
Hi :flowerforyou: Esther, regarding the cartoons. I just go to a web site. Right click on a photo, scroll down to where is says properties, click that. In the properties box I copy the address, then paste it on this thread. THEN, I put at the end. Try it sometime. It's fun.
Great job with your work out
:flowerforyou: Elli, I agree Barbie is such and inspiration. Thanks on the compliment. I had to push my self to go to the gym, believe me. I just had to. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I just know it is the great support I am getting from all you great ladies. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: WOW, I guess you had a petting Zoo. That must have been fantastic for your kids.
:flowerforyou: I-maholy (Lynn), can you come over to my house and cook for me.  Please, Please. Those suggestions sound great.
Well, I better log in my food. I'm not as good as Barbie I do it as I go along now.

Hi there everyone, my name is Patricia and I just joined today. In December of 2007 I found out I had diabetes and needed to change my lifestyle. I weighed 230 pounds at that time. I bought an elliptical trainer and stopped eating junk food. I now weigh 180lbs and have my blood sugar under control. My goal is to weigh 150lbs and get off of medications for diabetes. I have been stuck at 180 for the past two months. I love this site, how you can keep track of calories eaten and calories burned. I need this kind of help to stay on track. Oh, and I am 55 years old. If I can do this, anyone can!
I just copied and pasted this from the introduce yourself topic. I lost 50 pounds in one year by not eating junk food and exercising on my elliptical trainer. I have been stuck for two months (but also was not watching my diet closely and not exercising every day). This site seems like a great idea, glad I found it! My goal is now to lose another 30 pounds by the end of 2009. Anyone have any good low-fat recipes?0 -
You always come up with the funniest cartoons.
psaxy... welcome...Sounds like you have been doing great. We are here to help you lose the last few pounds. I have diabetes in my family, however, I do not have it.0 -
:flowerforyou: psaxy
as far as low calorie dishes go. I eat a lot of salads and basic grilled meats with veggies. Well, during the week anyway. Sometimes I don't make good choices on the week-ends. :explode: However, I do go the the recipe threads in the mfp community. I also use "all recipes.com" I love the fact that it will make a grocery list for the recipes you want and save them.

HI,
AS LONG AS I AM OVER 50 DOES IT MATTER HOW FAR OVER? I WILL BE 65 AND WOULD LIKE TO JOIN FOR APRIL ?
I WANT TO LOSE 25 MORE POUNDS TO REACH A GOAL OF 145. SINCE I FOUND MFP I HAVE ALREADY LOST 4LBS. THE FIRST WEEK I USUALLY LOSE A FEW POUNDS AND THEN IT SLOWS DOWN. I LOST FROM 1/4LB TO 2 AND 1/2 LBS WEEKLY AND WENT FROM 264 TO 170. I WAS LOSING MY MOTIVATION AND CAME HERE FOR HELP. IT HAS HELPED ME FOCUS AGAIN. NOW I SEE THAT I CAN JOIN THIS GROUP, I HOPE.
THANKS, ANNE0 -
Hi we will be happy for another member you are doing great and should be very proud of yourself. I love this site and am very motivated by the support I have been given. A great group here very encouraging.:flowerforyou:

I could just cry. Maybe I need to up the exercise. I don't push myself because I don't want to aggravate my back.  :sad:0

I did NOT meet my goals for the month of March. I hoped to lose 2-3 pounds per week but only lost 1 for the entire month. At least my measurements have decreased! In April I am planing to be more disciplined in both exercise and what I eat. See you on the April thread.0
