Well done everyone! I have just completed w4d1... It was much easier than I thought it would be. I think I'm getting runners high!0

Lisa- I was staggered to find that my body just stepped up to the job from day 3 week five to the end of week 6 - so far.
I have found along the way that I have been really troubled by each transition - especially W5D3- but am pleased to report that my body was clearly prepared. Having finished W6 - I have no more walking at all in each session - and I worry a bit about how my knees are going to tolerate this. I am running really slow- almost as slow as I can run but not be walking. I have heard that this is recommended - and to build up endurance later. My focus in week 7 is to slowly build up speed without exceeding my maximum heart rate for my age, which is around 150. Younger people will be able to push it much higher and go faster but for my it has to be gradually build up without placing undue stress. I think these transitions have been planned really well- so that when you approach them your body is prepared. I have been elated after each transition to find that - yes it pushes you, but you are up for the challenge. You will do it....have confidence:)0 -

Finished Week 2!!! Last time I started the C25k program I got stuck on this week. I was so disgusted with myself that I had gone from running cross country as a sport to not being able to run for 90 seconds, that I stopped all together. NOT THIS TIME!!! I was able to do week 2 and it didn't kill me! It was actually kind of easy. Looking forward to getting back in shape!0

W5D2 in the books! Looking forward to the dreaded W5D3 20 minute run. I think that my speed has improved some, which was the plan. I guess we will see on race day. Still hoping for sub 33:00.

Ug, I'm stalled. I had to re-run w5/d2 the other day after an injury, so I was planning on w5/d3 tonight, but I don't want to run in freezing rain. It's inevitable now that winter approaches, but I'm just not eager for the treadmill. So I'm planning on doing w5/d3 tomorrow morning on the treadmill... What do i need to know? I usually go at night, & outdoors, so how different will it feel?
I've ran on the treadmill in the past, but I was only on the mill then, never outside, & I didn't do that long. I just feel like it'll be different!0 -
Completed W4D3 today. It wasnt bad. I am pleasantly surprised with how well I did in week 4. I hope week 5 goes as well. I need to start running outside to get used to that since I have my first 5K coming up in the begining of December and I am only used to running on the treadmill.
SarabellPlus3- I have the opposite problem as you so I can't help you with that but if anyone can give me any advice on running outside in the cold I could sure use it!0 -

W5D2 - done!
Sarabell I started the C25K running outside in the park but the last 3 sessions I've done at the gym on the treadmill and I've surprised myself by preferring it at this stage... I think eventually I would like to go back to running outside but its starting to get very warm and humid here so the airconditioned gym is quite attractive.... but I've also found that I can get into a real rhythm and almost meditate without having to watch my footing.... i'm still using the app and a HRM rather than watching the treadmill stats... although at the end I then watch the treadmill to keep going to a full 5k (I'm running very slowly so it takes me longer).... my gym also has a wonderful view so its lovely looking out as I run so I don't feel like I am cooped up in a sweaty room.
I was really worried about the 8 minute runs today but I did it.... the longest I've run in one go for over 30 years!!
Still very worried about the 20 minute run... hopefully I will surprise myself again!

Finished W2D1 today! Am behind because I was taken out by sinus infection and bronchitis. I upped my running to 6 and survived. Was pretty darn proud of myself!0

Well done everyone - people are going really well.
Today I finished W7D1- I found it a bit challenging, but he first half was the hardest part for me- although I was delighted to finish.Still struggling with distance as I have focused on time- so am a long way from 5 ks- but will try from here on to build up distance yet staying under my maximum HR.
Keep up the great work everyone - and I am pleased to see people returning after being stalled by health issues.

In the cold, I've been wearing my regular capris (it's only down to 30s [F] here in the evening at the lowest), with a long sleeve top & sweatshirt on top. It seems to be the right spot for me... so far! Not sure what I'll do when the snow hits and the temps get below 0*. I know runner friends of mine use a mask of some sort, might be worth looking into!
Thanks for the input! I found that I liked some things better about the treadmill.... Some worse. I have always heard that it's easier (without incline at least), and I didn't think so. I thought it was harder! I usually wear Vibrams outside, and I just wore my gym shoes on the treadmill, so maybe that played into it. Also maybe because my neighborhood is so hilly, and I'm used to the strenuous uphill, but also used to the recovery of downhills? I don't know. I liked being able to read, I didn't like not having my dog. I liked the predictable temperature, I didn't like the predictable setting! Well, I didn't fall off, and it's good to have the option for days I can't get outdoors!
Everyone's doing great, I'm so impressed with you guys! I did w5d3 (on the treadmill) yesterday, but I did walk for about 2 minutes in the dead middle, so I'm repeating the day at least once until I can do it happily through. Bonus: I'll probably be on the same scedule as this group real soon. LOL0 -
I'm just now finishing week 4 today. I'm not going to get this complete by Dec 4th. but I'm going to finish. I'm doing a 5k on Dec. 17th so I"ve got to be ready for it.0

I tried to do D2W4 this morning but I just couldn't do it! I don't know why and I thought at the time that my legs hurt and I couldn't breathe but I think I was imagining this! I kept pushing myself but realised that I kept turning the treadmill down without realising it! I couldn't do either of the 5 mins runs and I am so disappointed as I was doing really well. I'm going to have another go tomorrow and then may repeat this week until I am comfortable with it, but I felt like giving up this morning.0

I have just recently started running on the treadmill from running outside. I read some posts where people had the same issues about transitioning. One thing they all said was to put the incline at about a 1 or 2, to help the transition back to outside. You might search for this topic and see what comes up.0 -
W5D3 - not really done..... ran for 15 minutes in one go then ran a few extra bursts of 2/3 mins after recovering for a total run of 23 minutes.... I think this is definitely a mental barrier for me..... I now think I could run for 20 minutes.... so will redo this day again in a better state of mind (I forgot to take my water bottle, had no money to buy one, forgot to have a banana before I left so no food in me, plus just dreading it and convincing myself I wouldn't be able to do it, oh and also having a problem with my earphone cord which caused my iphone to go flying across the room!):embarassed:0

Well done everyone, you are doing so well!
I did w5d1 today, a day early as I have to go out of town for a funeral for a few days, and probably won't be running while I'm away. However, I have got my gear in the suitcase, so we will see. I'm totally amped about the 20 minute run, can't wait! Everyday I run along a waterside track and when the voice prompt says I'm half way, I turn around and head back again. It's so cool going past my last halfway mark and waiting for the voice prompt. It's a personal motivator that's for sure.

Completed Week 3!!!! This is a big milestone for me. I have never gotten this far in the program. I always taper off. Not this time! Looking forward to the weeks to come.

W5D3 - DONE.... I RAN 20 MINUTES IN ONE GO!!!!!
Sorry to shout but I am just so amazed...... after only getting to 15 min on saturday I was determined to redo it..... actually I was really struggling even before 10 minutes....hanging out for that voice to come on and say "you are halfway there".... but it was taking forever and i thought I might stop .... but then my sons words rang in my ears about just getting past the 10 min mark.... halfway there came and then I was in the zone.... next time i looked it was at 19 mins.... no way was I going to stop then....did the full 5k in 45:08.... shaving 22 seconds off my total (gotta take small victories).......yeah!!!!
I can't believe that it was only 5 weeks ago that I was struggling at 90 seconds! Isn't the body (and the mind) an amazing thing!

Started Week 5 yesterday. Feeling good about it. After doing my Week 5 day 1 yesterday morning, I went out to see how far I could run. I was tying to just get a full mile in without stopping as I couldn't last week. I was able to get the full mile complete. That felt great.0

I'm finished with week 6 now! On to the next week. I am really enjoying seeing my progress.. Unbelievable!0

I did W5D3 today!!! I wanted to stop so bad so many times. I was telling myself "oh well, at least I tried" and for the first time I thought I wouldn't finish the program or my 5k next month. But then I thought of everyone on these boards who have gotten through it and I thought if you all can do it then so can I! So I kept on going and I felt so proud when I was done.0

Lisa congratulations - it certainly feels like a fabulous achievement doesn't it:) Your son is so right - there have been serveral days where I have felt drained within the first 5-8 minutes and have just pushed through it and been able to push past and finish the session. As you mentioned - I remember feeling terrified at the thought of running 3 full minutes - yet today I ran a full 28 minutes with energy to spare at the end of it. Unlike you I chose to stop then purely because I am nursing a dodgy knee that is managing - but I didn't want to aggravate it any.
Slackermommy - well done to you too -I am pleased you didn't give up.
It is so satisfying to achieve these runs as they come out- when having never done any running at all during my life since I left school in the early seventies.
Ktjones and Jones 4177- good on both of you - your are making great progress- it is fabulous to see that other people are all achieving success as well.
Cowgirl don't worry about being ahead or behind - as it is not relevant- what is highly relevant is that you have now achieved the first two weeks and are about to embark on week three. I think the beauty of this program is that we are just aiming for progress- that rate or level doesn't really matter.
So pleased to have finished W8D1- and have just realised that I have only got 5 more runs within the program. What surprises me as that I have already resolved to continue- it is exhausting but ever so invigorating - I can't believe how good I feel at completion - once my muscles and breathing have settled down a bit.

I am currently repeating week 4 as I can't get to grips with these 5 minute runs! Today I tried swapping the program around so instead of running 3 mins, 5 mins, 3 mins and 5 mins, I did 5 mins, 3 mins, 5 mins and 3 mins. I felt that this was better for me but I still couldn't quite make the full second 5 mins run. Everyone is doing so well, is it only me that is struggling?0

Hi everyone.... W6D1 done..... after that huge 20 minute run last time I thought today would be a piece of cake..... it wasn't..... I did it ok but I don't know if I could have gone for 20 minutes again.... I guess that's why this program works so well..... they throw that 20 minutes in there just to shock you and see if you can rise to the challenge but really our body still has a way to go to build up to doing that regularly.....the treadmill at the gym reset itself after 30 minutes and I wasn't quite finished so I had to just keep going again and estimate how far..... I'm sure I ended up doing my 5k in around 49 minutes.... did a few extra runs including and extra 5 minute one and then ran faster than normal for the last 100 metres..... so all in all I'm pretty happy and looking forward to next session.
Deb you are doing so well.... W8 no less..... you've inspired me to keep going..... we are going away on a family beach holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I might be at a stage where I will be able to continue by running on the beach.... I'm sure it will be much harder than the treadmill but I really want to give it a go..... I used to run on the beach every morning and night when I was a teenager..... a long time ago!!0 -
Totally excited about my workout last night and thought I'd share.
I usually do intervals on my own on the treadmill when I train, but I happened to choose a LifeFitness treadmill at the gym last night, rather than the one that is in my usual spot. I was pleased that there was a speed interval button on it. I really blasted calories and felt like I got a better workout by using. I finally hit the 15 mile a minute pace by alternating between 4 and 5mph.

I did the 20mintue run yesterday, end of w5... It hurt my legs like crazy. My lungs seem to be coping fine though, so thats a good thing. I really notice the different time of the day if I go after work it's much harder to run than if i go in the morning.

W6D2...... well i struggled a bit today.... you might think after doing the 20 minute run last week that these next 2 days would be a walk in the park.... but I couldn't do the second 10 minute run.... had to drop back to a walk at 5 minutes..... still did extra 2 and 3 minute runs afterwards and completed 5k in 48 minutes..... but I just can't see me getting on to the long runs for good next week.... think I might hang out at W6 for a bit till I feel I can do it properly.... I know it is very much a mental challenge for me... when I start focussing on my heavy legs I just find it so hard to keep going.... and I also think running in the morning is better for me.... still enjoying it and do want to keep moving forward so I'll see how I go on sunday when I redo W6D2.
