Is There Anything You Eat That Don't Record - What and Why?

I record everything I eat, with the exception of sports gels. I have 1 every 3-4 miles on most runs over 6 miles. The reason I don't record them is that I know that I need the carbs they give me on a long run and I know I will try to go without, if i have to go put them in. I'm always way under on cals on my long run day ANYWAY....
How far is your long run?0 -
I set my deficit at 1000 calories, and i dont log nibbles.
Example:
Give kids blueberries, grab a few
Give kids m&m's grab a couple
Grab a stick of celery or a couple mini carrots........
I figure my nibbling adds up to about 100-150cal a day, but I am not wasting the time to log 2 peanut m&m's or a single strawberry............0 -
Hmmmmm! I log everything that has a calorie. I try my best. I didn't realize how many calories I was consuming before.0
-
I do the same thing but after reading someone else's response it may be wise to rethink the practice because a calorie is a calorie.0

I don't log anything under 10-15 calories... gum (which I don't chew much of), mints, coffee, tea, spices, sometimes I will if I'm bored but if I'm busy I won't. I always add anything substantial like condiments, and my vitamins. I know that the things I don't log have calories, though insignificant, and people on here are saying that a calorie is a calorie. But I burn calories throughout the day that MFP doesn't keep track of either, like my walk to the gym, walks to the bus, walks to the store, all the stairs I climb, etc. I figure it all evens out.0

Same with me. I usually don't have the extra time to look up a strawberry or 2 Goldfish.0 -
Most spices and seasoning because they're used in such small quantities that it doesn't change much.0

zero calorie fizzy drinks
sugar free gum
ketchup
cordial (I put like a cm in the bottom of a pint glass of water as like it weak)
and tea (decaf and white) - this one because I will never cut back on milk for this treat, I will never give up tea, and if I have to cut calories in my tea then something else in my food/exercise log is majorly wrong.
Sugar free gum is 5 calories per stick and depending on how much you chew it can add up over time. And ketchup may not be very high in calories but it is pretty high and sugar and very high in sodium (over 160mg of sodium) so you may want to start logging it. I was eating atleast 2 tbsp of ketchup every day with my egg whites and even though it was only 30 calories for those 2 tbsp, the sodium alone added up to over 300mg.0 -
Mentos sugarfree gum...i'm addicted.0

Coming from someone who used to weigh a little over 200 lbs, I can tell you from experience that not logging EVERYTHING might eventually catch up to you. I was one of those individuals who didnt think that I had to log everything because it was only a few calories. So what if I took a few m&ms here and there...so what if I had a few extra sticks of gum....I, too, at the time, walked to the bus, walked to the store, climbs the stairs, etc. And then I noticed over time that I wasnt losing anymore weight. In fact, I was slowly gaining here and there. I wasnt too sure why....I was logging my food but then my trainer asked me if I was logging EVERYTHING and the answer was no. We tend to mindlessly eat throughout the course of the day and sometimes we dont even realize it. We take a few pieces of candy here and there at work and dont think its a big deal but at the end of the day all of those things that you are picking at here and there can substantially add up and pretty quickly. Especially when we are either at our goal weight or very close to it, we think that we dont have to log everything...we think we have it all under control...and then the nibbling here and there starts and we start to have a little bit of this and that and dont journaling it because we feel like we know what we are doing and then BAMMM, youve started gaining weight all over again. Ive been there before and of course its no fun.
Everyone has to do what they think is best for themselves, I guess.0 -
I do log my energy gels, but not coffee (the actual coffee, I do log creamer).
Gels are 100/pack. I take them when I run, and I never run less than four miles, so I definitely work them off. There is a difference in 100 calories and a 2 calorie cup of coffee tho. I would start logging your gels - however, you're really only lying to yourself if you don't!
Gels are 100 cals a pack, true. But who is eating a whole pack? I will eat 1-2 gels over the course of 8-10 miles. Your talking a burn of around 1000 cals, give or take, as oppose to an intake of 20-40 cals. I don't think I am cheating myself at all.0 -
The only things I don't log are spices and meds. Meds aren't in the database anyway and spices have hardly any cals to I figure it's more trouble to count them than it's worth. I do log coffee even though I drink it black - I don't really need to bother but it's on my most used list so it's easy to log.0

If you're counting the run though it might be good to still count them since they are about 80+ each, but to each their own.
Again.....they are 20 cals as oppose to a 900 to 1100 cal burn on the run.0 -
I don't log gum, spices, or cooking sprays (0 calories anyway). Everything else gets logged - I've even logged DayQuil (93 calories if anyone's interested haha)0

considering I got a snicker for logging an altoid.... I think I need to excuse myself from this... lol0

I usually don't log spices, cooking spray, or gum. Everything else, I log it. 5 M&Ms? LOGGED. lol0
-
i dont log gum, spices, medicine, vitamins. basically anything that is like 5 calories and under....i dont log.0
-
I don't record my water, only because I know I drink enough every day.0

Normally between 8-10 miles.0 -
I log everything. Otherwise there's no point (to me) in doing this, as it's a short hop from not logging a pinch of sugar to not bothering with the full number of potatoes, to forgetting the latte, a couple of bits of chocolate and then leaving whole days mentioning just enough to stay under, but omitting 2,500 kcals of what got me here in the first place (which wasn't cake and candy, it was too much of normal foods every day for years).
It's the awareness of exactly what I'm eating that's helping the most of all, I think, which needs complete honesty for accuracy.0 -
I try to record everything, but Im not like hardcore, If I have a hard candy or gum or a breath mint I won't log it, unless I had like a bunch of them, the only other thing I don't log is if I take a bite of someones food, like if I take a lick of hubbys ice cream or something. If we split something then sure, but if it's just a bite, then no.0

I like to put a couple leaves of lettuce on my sandwiches, that's about 3 calories, which I figure I burn off getting it out of the refrigerator and putting on the sandwich. I occasionally chew sugar free gum when I get the munchies and don't count it because I don't swallow it and it saves me so many calories because I can't nibble with gum in my mouth. Pretty much everything else, including vitamin supplements I put on because I want to track my nutrients, which are as important to good health as how many calories you are eating.0

I don't log the odd bug that I swallow on a motorcycle ride. Figure the protein amount would be too small to make it worth it...0

HAHA awesomeness!0 -
I dont log coffee - I log the creamer b/c that's where the calories are. I don't log diet soda (I don't see the point). I don't log water (again - not seeing the point).
I don't always log sugar free gum if I only have a piece or two. If I have several pieces I log it b/c it adds up.
Pretty much everything else - I log.0 -
I don't log black coffee or gum.0
