I log only water as water.....I log my coffee and other drinks for my calories0

i log coffee, tea, juice, soda, and water as water. that said, i drink coffee maybe 3 times a week, tea about half that and juice and soda are a couple times a month, if that.
its all water, and the dehydrating effects arent really so serious that you dont get any benefit at all from the water the drink is made from.
i never thought to add soup as water intake, but i dont eat/drink a lot of soup either.

I think they were just surprised that you count everything as water. *serious question* how to do log soda? 12oz soda= ? oz water
12oz soda = 12 oz water.
ok........it just seems weird to me but as one of the above users said "to each their own"
I thought it was warranted... Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water, so why would you want to replace that with soda, coffee, juice etc.0 -

water is water..everything else is a beverage...they have to go through your kidneys..water helps flush out toxins..and fat..so drink tons of water...0

I thought it was warranted... Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water, so why would you want to replace that with soda, coffee, juice etc.
did you miss the part where i said i drink coffee MAYBE 3 days a week? or tea half as often? and soda and juice 2 times a month?
whether i drink those things or not, i still drink around 8 glasses or more of water a day.
i drink coffee to help wake me up in the mornings to take my daughter to school. i drink soda because i like the taste and the bubbles. and i drink juice because sometimes i like to drink my fruit, so ill grab a bottle of Naked and chug it.0 -

I don't log water...logging food is quite enough. I just make sure I refill my 20 oz water bottle 3-4 times a day which comes easy for me b/c I don't really like juice and soda, and coffee makes me feel crappy so that's a no go as well. That whole coffee as water thing doesn't sound right to me but to each their own.0

Really, can't we all have a conversation without sarcastic-ing the hell out of eachother. If we were all perfect and knew everything like professional water chemist weight looser doctors then we wouldn't be here...And I'm sure of those doctors exist if they were smart enough they'd admit they don't have all the answers.
I apologize to the people who are being harassed due to this thread. I was clearly delusional when I thought adults could be adults and talk about water without having any "I'm better then you because my water is different then yours" conversations.

So, we should be really accurate about this, the water you drink should not be logged as water, because it contains sodium and minerals, not just water....

I just read recently that Coffee isn't dehydrating, although it is a mild diuretic. That study showed that the body's hydration level only increases with cofee consumption. I log my tea and coffee consumption as if it was pure water. That said, there's nothing better for you than pure water. Except for maybe cofee and tea! :-)0

How about a nice cup of green tea instead? Although I haven't completely replaced my three-pot-a-day coffee adiction with pure water yet, green tea has taken over my afternoon and evening liquid consumption. It might just be better for you than pure water!

Water is water...I work in healthcare. When I calculate IV fluids & feeding tubes, a portion of the ingredients as H2O, while other parts are of something else. For instance, soup. It certainly counts has a fluid, however you cannot count it towards water due to the fact that if you broke it down, there would be traces of whatever is mixed into the mixture (the solid). Same with soda...phosphates, sodium nitrates, etc. are all a solid form. Allow a soda or tea to sit in a glass for a month & you will see the residue in the glass. I think the message here is to flush our bodies with something that has no additional ingredients in which may cause bloating, etc. And yes, caffiene is a diuretic. Meaning that it absorbs fluids from our bowels, and other parts of our bodies which can increase risk for dehydration & could even increase risk of constipation for others. So, with that said I recommend only going by what it states: WATER. MFP has done an excellent job breaking down all the nutrients based on a persons size, age, ht, gender, etc. The ONLY thing that I recommend is that if your a smaller person you may only need about 1500ml to 1750 mls per day, whereas a larger person may require closer to 3000mls of fluids....a good portion of this should be from H2O mainly b/c it's better for your teeth, and flushing our bodies (bowels) to aid with transit of fecal defication. I could go into more details, however it would be over the head of the general public. So take my word: only count water as water- when the hospital is counting "fluids" it is for hydration purposes only. In dietetics we count water to aid with weight loss (flushing the system) in which cannot be done properly from drinking just anything. When I calculate a feeding tube, I have to a) make sure the body is receiving enough fluids for their needs & b) that they are getting enough WATER. The average tube feed has only .805 per 1000ml of H2O, basically a ratio of approx 800ml of water per 1000ml bag. I could break down & do the same with any beverage that contains additives...very scientific. I have recommended this site to many of my clients trying to loose weight, the only other thing I suggest is increasing the amount of fiber. I'm a smaller person, so the 17 grams of fiber per day that MFP recommends is way low. The recommended amount to protect againist colon cancer or diverticulosis (for instance). I feel that most individuals should get at the least 25 grams per day. Just remember, it is not so much about urination as it is defication. Yeah, any "fluid" will cause frequent urination. However, water aids the bowels so much more...as well has fiber & exercise. It all works in sync together.0

I dont attack anyone, i just present evidence to back up what i say. Why don't the people who say coffee dehydrates do the same, rather than just saying the much-touted myth with no actual backup?0 -

So if I put a carrot in my water then it is no longer water? I don't get it :P
Just because it was mixed does not take away from the fact there is still water in it. I learned in one of first nutrition courses that you get plenty of water from foods too.0 -

I was half interested in this thread because I was drinking up to about 4 cups a day and then I stopped and started having a coffee once every few days. Anyway, what prompted the message is that I've been half experimenting and drinking what I consider to be to much water. Anyway, I gotta say I feel absolutely great, and alert! I had one cup of coffee earlier today. It may also have something to do with my diet, I'm not sure.0
