Wow, Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Actually I have never had this cross my mind about only a head shot. I just took a photo I had on Facebook and made it my profile picture here as well. I do see where you are coming from and you do make a good point. But if others are like me they have never seen this as a way of hiding their bodies until you pointed it out. Yep, Gonna have to take some new pictures and upload them. :-)

Ummmm.... most photos of people are of their face. I don't get why this is a sign of being uncomfortable with your body. I could post a pic of my *kitten* but no one would know who the hell I was :/

Personally I prefer to see someone's face. That's the bit I talk to in real life so why would I talk to someone's abs online?

OP: I know you mean well but I really don't think it means someone is uncomfortable with their body if they post a head shot. Not for most people anyway. Head shots are just the norm

I agree. I don't just have full body pics lying around and I'm not going to take any just so I can post them here. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed of how I look. In fact, it's quite the contrary. I've lost 30 pounds in the last 7 weeks (after having my third baby), I'm down a pants size and I look better than I have in about 4 years. I mainly post pictures of me with my family, which is what I'm the most proud of.

I hope the world one day realizes the difference between an offensive post and one simply meant out of a kind gesture.

I hope the world one day realizes the difference between negativity and disagreeing with someone.

    ^ This, this and THIS.

I haven't seen any negativity here, simply people disagreeing with the sentiment. In fact, I think it's negative to assume women hate their bodies just because they haven't got photos of themselves prancing around in a sports bra posted on the Internet.

Agreed, it's just another " Attention-Grabber" topic, seems to be the norm lately on the forums. Just because everyone didn't jump at your feet and agree with you it doesn't mean they are negative ( Directed to the OP)

The only other comment I could make is that each person has a level of comfort with showing their body on the Internet, the fact that they choose not to display it for you to see doesn't mean they are ashamed in any way or that they aren't looking for support.

Thanks for your kind words of support :) I actually took the full body photos this time, even though it was the last thing that I wanted to do, so for me that was huge. I will post them soon- down 16 lbs since January and trying really hard!

Reminds me of the Napoleon Dynamite movie when Kip says "I'm getting a little T O'ed because she hasn't sent me a full body shot yet".

    Bahahahahahaha

I'm friends with people, not their bodies. It's good to see what they look like, and their diary, but they are the judge of what to post on here.

Probably already been said, but I have a pic of my face so people know what I look like. I would rather invision talking to a person's face - not a body...particularly a half naked one. Has nothing to do with anything I want to hide.

Totally agree with this, I took my pic with my cell phone myself and just being able to get my head in the shot was a challeging. I have always been a confident person from when i was a 20 to when i was a size 8. I don't think it has anything to do with being uncomfortable I have grown to trust my friends on mfp i have found they could careless if i have a full body shot or head shot or like I have now cute puppies and a piggy. Just my opinion.

Great topic! For me personally I'm not ready to post any pictures of myself as my wieght has taken an extreme toll on my self-esteem. Currently I avoid mirrors and cameras like the plague, I don't even leave my house anymore because of how ashamed I feel. I'm completely disgusted with myself and don't want anyone to look t me... it's horrible... I've been playing with the idea of taking full body photos once a week to document my progress and possibly sharing them when I'm more confident and closer to my goal weight. Although I'm new I've been reading the forums which have been really inspiring but I'm just not ready to share photos. I'm hoping one day I'll gain the confidense to hold my head high and share my success and even failures.

Ok........ for some people it is shyness or fear. For me, that would give me such a vulnerability and panic to let anyone see me like that. I have comparison photos on my computer, I just cannot bring myself to post me next to so many people who seem so physically great to me. I have a severe dysmorphic view of myself and even though I am down to 174, in pictures, I still see me at 340. Sharing the image I see in the mirror would nearly cripple me with anxiety. There is one pic of me about 20 lbs ago, one at 260, and one at 300 on my page, but I cannot make it my profile where it is open for people to judge or possibly hurt me with.

I never once said you had to put your pictures up. I was simply posing a challenge to those who might have been afraid or on the fence about it. For the one who made the comment about seeing women naked, if i wanted to do that i could log onto a porn site much easier. I made a challenge, some agreed some didn't. I understand that there is a difference between negativity and disagreeing and for those that disagreed i'm not calling it negativity. I was pointing out that there was some, not that all that disagreed were in it. Constructive criticism is fine and its going to happen. But for those of you who think im some horn dog looking for the next kick out of my day go right ahead. Just saying, going to these kind of lengths, and constantly posting nothing but positive posts to those who thought my post was helpful, would not have been worth it.

This is a ploy to see boobies. Do not do it

    Somehow I doubt that.

If he really wanted to see boobies there are PLENTY of free porn video sites out there. I know of like 3 of them off the top of my head.

OP, I think you're awesome for posting that. I for one think it's a true statement. I have always used face pictures (lol I almost typed facial) because I didn't want to show my body. It wasn't until recently I said "screw it!" and put up a full body shot on here and on my facebook.

Thanks so much =D i said it in the post before hand about the porn thing and i guess no one was really thinking that. I just thought it would be a better motivation for people to see before pictures and have that as their push to a harder and more diligent workout.

I thank you for it, really. It is a truth I need to hear. I don't see myself realistically, and perhaps being so exposed (not nekkid) emotionally could, through evaluations of my peers, help me see what I know I should see and not what I currently do.

I honestly don't think any of the "You just want nudes" are serious posts. 85% of posts on this forum are made just to get a reaction or a good laugh. I don't take anyone on the internet seriously

Thanks for the sincere and kind post OP.

I've been on this site for over 3 years. There's always going to be SOMEONE who finds something offensive or negative, even if it's a kind gesture.

^this. Nothing wrong about your post. I personally have pics on my computer, but those are for my eyes only.

I do have other pics on my profile with full body pic. Thanks for you honesty. I'll think about this... maybe I'll put a full body pic as my main profile pic.

I think men are more keen to have "from the waist up" shots because they build definition in their chests and abdominal areas and can show it off.
If I showed off my chest and abdominal area I would be showing off the two bits of my body I hate the most, even after months of dedicated dieting and exercise.
So, no thanks, I'll stick to my back shot.
A good sweat stain is better than any other picture I have on my profile :)
