Another great post! Love seeing the great examples- worth a million words :)

I wish MFP would implement a body fat ticker instead of weight- or even 'inches lost'.
Inches would be good, but chasing after body fat % numbers is not very productive, in my opinion(given the inherent lack of accuracy and the fact that the bottom line is how you really look).

I think body fat is a good thing to go after as long as you can get it measured by a professional with calipers and not just the handheld machine (those machines are always lower in my experience and give false hope) It's good to know that the weight you're losing is fat vs. muscle so you know you're on the right path to looking toned while leaning out. You're absolutely right though, in the end it's how you look and feel about yourself :)

THANK YOU for posting this! I really needed this reminder. Sometimes when I see my pals posting weight loss I get a little sad that I have not been able to do the same since I started weight training. It's tough sometimes not to see the progress reflected on the scale but I surely see it in the mirror and I'm loving the changes lifting heavier weights is doing for my body so I'm going to stick with it.

So I stole this collection of pictures from tangal88 (she posted them in another thread). I think it's an awesome collection. None of these are me, but my pictures are in my profile.

5 lbs heavier in after pic, but tighter and leaner

Great thread!! If you diet and do not implement some type of weight training program about 22% of your total weight loss will be from lean muscle!! Most people who diet but dont lift are not happy with their body even after reaching their goal and even going below their goal weight. Im just reaching my desired goal after cutting 74lbs in the past year and if I didnt lift at the same time as cutting I wouldnt look anywhere close to this and im 42!

    You look fantastic!

Thanks for posting! I just started lifting because I am not seeing any change in the scale and only little changes in my body. Seeing this is the motivation I need to keep going!
  • Thank you so much for posting this. I have been working out for 3 weeks and although the number on the scale is barely moving, I have noticed my clothes don't fit as snug and even in the mirror by body is looking smaller. I take two 1 hour body sculpting in addition to 2 muscle toning/cardio classes per week. These picts really make me feel better about myself and what I am starting to see as an accomplishment.

I started Feb. 2, and though I don't think the changes would be that noticeable in pics, stuff is starting to change. I really enjoy the lifting.

If I had to guess I'd say deep squats, deadlifts and maybe lunges.

thanks for posting! I've been slowly putting on weight as I'm lifting. I *know* it's ok, but you know...sometimes..it's still hard when you see the numbers going up.

    Thanks!!!!

ps. my bum looks so much better thanks to Squats!

How about a Ticker for when you have hit your goal weight and are trying to put on mass? Now that would be nice!

This suggestion has been posted, and Steven said they are working on it (not sure why it's hard, I don't know much about codes but really...)

  • I don't get the whole women with muscles thing.. sorry, it turns me right off :-/ Shapely is lovely but muscles are just not womanly. That tight round butt i would kill for, but can you get that without the rest following?
