Like it or not there is a food chain. Seals eat fish and whales eat seals.

Seals are wonderful creatures but should we keep the whales from eating them?

My dog of 16 years slept in my bed, and I still cry everytime I think of her.

But put her and you in a burning house, and I will save you before her.

Why? Because she is an animal. I love her but you have more value in my heart because you are human.

Now back to the bill board.....................I wonder where they got that before picture of me to post??

    Thats where we differ.

Put my dogs and some random stranger in a burning building and its my critters who I'm getting out of there first, then I'll go back and check on the human who can be expected (more often than not) to take care of himself/herself.

As humans, it is our job to take care of these "lesser creatures". To look over them, protect them, be their shepherds.

So puppy>baby according to your views?

Babies are helpless and depend on adults to take care of them. Ofcourse u would save a helpless baby

The meaning behind the billboard is not "Hey! You eat meat! That totally makes you a fatty!"

its more "lose weight by going vegetarian", in a not so sugarcoated way.

    ... which is totally inaccurate.
    I hate that myth.

I agree. I was actually at my highest weight when I was a vegatarian (and for a while there vegan)

Its not a myth. Plenty of people go vegetarian and lose weight. It all depends on what you're stuffing in your mouth. If you cut out meat, but replace it with a bag of potato chips a day, yeah, you're gonna gain weight.

    No no no no no.
Vegetarianism does NOT equal weight loss.
Don't try to play that card.
You are still saying heathly eating = weight loss/ healthy weight.
Meat or no meat. Healthy eating.

I know a grown man who is more helpless than a puppy. Should I save him first or the puppy? The puppy might be cuter.... hmmm.

Where did you come from and why did you jump in with this? :| You CAN lose weight by nixing meat, just as you can lose weight by nixing ice cream or whatever else it is you might eat in excess. A calorie is a calorie.

Wow. Um, my point was that it doesn't matter what you do or don't eat, it matters how much of it you eat and having a healthy balance. I have never eaten a bag of potato chips a day and I rarely even buy chips or snacks of that kind. You would be amazed at how much crap is in those 'meatless' products that I once consumed.

Just so you know. I lost a family member this year to a house fire. She and my BIL, and their daughter made it out alive. She ran back into the building to get the dog.

She did not emerge and the dog did.

Don't tell me you wouldn't grab the human first. That is against human nature.

Where you assign value to life is up to you. All things big and small deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. Where you assign a "rank" is personal choice. All I can say is that this poster does not encourage respect or kindness to people who do happen to be part of this world and in that deserving of repect and kindness.

Practice what you preach PETA. We all have to share this planet. Last time I checked humans are in the "mammals" class.

:flowerforyou: very nicely put. thank you:flowerforyou:
  • PETA is stupid. :grumble:

Not all vegetarians are skinny and not all meat eaters are fat. I even have veg*n friends who are overweight (myself included). It's not only about what you eat but also how much.

Well sweetie, it wasn't a "defense" as I do not feel I am being attacked. It was more a jab at your reluctance to read what I actually wrote, and your need to quickly jump in with fluff.

I agree with you there...I'm a vegan and I don't agree with all of their campaigns...it doesn't mean all vegans or vegetarians are rude and in your face though :)

This Topic is about a billboard that's offensive....but that's a pretty offensive quote.
  • I wonder how many PETA supporters out there own pets not rescued from a shelter or something along those lines. Breeding animals just to take a baby from it's mom so you can have a cute cuddly critter seems just as bad. Did anyone ask the mom if it was cool?

PETA will wring your neck for that evil as well as riding horses, buckaroo.

I don't think you should be judging just PETA supporters on this one. It's not that you're taking a puppy away from its mother, its that by not rescuing an animal from a shelter and buying a puppy you will support a cycle of breeding more animals while more pets die in shelters. It's an obvious thing that everyone who cares about animals should do. ADOPT A PET.

I had to do a senior thesis on this topic. It hits close to home and I wish more people were educated on the horrors of puppy mills and pet stores, but thats a whole 'nother story.

I read everything you wrote. It was illogical. Your point was not eating meat enables you to lose weight. The same point could be made that only eating meat and nothing more will enable you to lose weight. And on a public forum, anyone is allowed to "jump in".
