Your doctor is an idiot. Mine was too. I have gained and lost an enormous amount of weight over the 20 years that I saw her, and never once did she ever comment on my weight other than to refer me to a surgeon. That's bull**** in my opinion.. it does nothing to address the real issue here, which at 327 lbs is obviously an issue with food (binging). I think surgery is fine for those that choose to go that way, I don't knock anyone for getting it, but to be healthy, one still needs to exercise and eat right!

Over the past four and a half months I've gone from 327 to 287... I'm 51, I work out hard and log absolutely everything I eat and so far it's working for me. Don't believe your doctor. You CAN lose weight without surgery.

you're doctor is crazy. you can do anything you set your mind too...you may just need to find that 'something'. for me, it was Zumba...and I've since lost 100 (before I started here...) since I started here, I've not lost a lot at all, so I understand your struggle...I need to lose around 25 more. Feel free to add me! Keep your chin up and keep the faith :)!

    Hey, Girl!!!!

I'm so sorry you're struggling so much. This is a worthwhile journey that you're on!!!! Anything worthwhile is hard a take a tenatious, dedicated work ethic. It sounds like you need to change things up. Start with your doctor. I admire your obvious hard work with not great results. It must be soooo tough. That is where great friends come in - to provide the support you need when things hit a rough patch. Talk to a nutitionist, weight loss expert, new doctor, and anyone else willing to offer their two cents. Whatever you do, NEVER GIVE UP!!!! I would be honored if you would add me as a friend. Also, please take the time to add a buddy of mine, 500lbs2marathon. He is a true inspiration to me. Sorry for being so long.

    You can do this!!!!!

I had the lap band done and it failed me...or maybe i failed it.You can lose the weight..you CAN. What Dr.s fail to realize with certain over weight people is we do not need our stomachs fixed we need our thinking fixed. Trust me...even with the lap band, it requires work and dedication. Their is no magic formula. I found "fixing my brain" and how it relates to food works better than any surgery. (although for some that is an option they chose ). Please feel free to contact me if you would like to chat.

^^ THIS!!! There is almost always some sort of emotional tie to the way we eat. Although there is a good 90% of things not shown during the 1 hour of air time, the Biggest Loser is REALLY GOOD at showing the emotional connections people have with eating and being overweight.

agree, time for a new doctor, get checked for insulin resistance and vitamin B12 or D deficiency. After that was checked out for me I was finally able to loose weight, I was struggling, always was in good shape, worked out 7 days a week and gained suddenly, doctors told me it is genetic and I have always been fat, well thank you... I was till age 32 always between 135 and 140 lbs with 5' 8". then I went up to 200 without any changes in eating or exercise, after moving to USA and stopping to work out, because for what when nothing happens.... I went up to 260 lbs, went to several doctors, nothing.... then a coworker told me about her doctor and how happy she is with her and I tried it... After my results came back, that I have all of the above mentioned and got the medication, my depressions and my weight dropped...
There is always a reason as to why someone cannot loose weight, either it is wrong eating habits, too less exercise or other medical reasons, but there is no ... only a surgery will work... that is bs*.
Don't let a bad doctor drag you down, he is bad in his job, find someone who is good in his job.

Good luck on your journey, you can do it!!!

Don't give up, you are strong enough to do this and can. Get another opinion from another doctor. A site like this will help you log and manage your food and exercise. It won't happen overnight but if you want it, you can do it!

Add me if you want. Good luck!

Damn the doctors and their dirty cahooting!

It is sad that having a degree doesn't always make a person smart. It is NEVER to late to lose!!!! Time to prove you are smarter than your doctor.

So I have been at this for a while now and have lost 6 lbs, keep in mind to be at a "healthy BMI" I need to loose 100 but going for more like 66lbs...I work out everyday 7 days a week, wear a Polar F7 to track my burn eat pretty good and pour my heart and soul into weight loss. Today I went to the dr b/c I have been having such a hard time...she recommends that I consult a dr about a lap-band.... Apparently I am so big that I have no hope of dropping of the weight. I'm sure she thinks I am crazy- I broke down and cried in her office. :embarassed: I am planning on starting Insanity Saturday- tomorrow is my last day of RI30 ( I have done 60day straight of Jillian) now I really don't see the point I am big - will always be big and the only thing to help is a surgury that I can not afford :frown:

Thanks for the vent I needed it

Find a new doctor. You might have an endo issue that you have to see a specialist for. I was hitting the gym 6 days a week for double sessions and my doctor looked at me like I was crazy, despite the fact my nutritionist said there was no doubt I was working out that much due to my HDL levels being raised, finally I made them give me a referral to an endocrinologist who figured out I was PCOS so then I had to approach fitness differently and my food.

Even if you don't need an endo. I have 112 lbs total to lose and I've been at it for 8 months now and have lost 33 lbs. I really think you need a second opinion. Doctors are too quick nowadays to look for a prescription to fill or to suggest surgery.

    1) Open your diary. Immediately. We won't condemn you, we'll offer suggestions to try and help you.
    2) Give more details about yourself. We know your age and gender. How about your height? History of eating, any major health issues or meds that could interfere?
    3) In my opinion, working out 7 days a week is too much. Your body needs rest sometimes.
    4) Don't give up. You're in a good place right now. Your doctor is a moron, as many of them tend to be. You CAN do this. A doctor once told me I wouldn't lose weight at home, and well, you see my ticker and I haven't stepped foot in a gym ever.

I agree with everyone else. Your Doctor is an *kitten*. Time to find a new one! Since you are very dedicated with your exercise program I would say it's time to give yourself a break....sounds like you are physically and emotionally exhausted! Take a week off, rest is an important element in every exercise program!!!

I'm with you. I started out well, lost 12 pounds, then bounced back up to an 8-pound loss. My stupid Wii Fit telling me "that's obese" every time I weigh in doesn't help!

I say, screw BMI--even the person who invented it never meant for it to be a measure of an individual's health. Forget it and give yourself huge congratulations on making changes in your life and for wanting this to work.

    As I said, I've had setbacks recently and felt discouraged. Keep at it. Forgive yourself when you screw up, pick up your self-confidence, and keep moving forward. Feel great about the good choices you're making. We can do it, you and I! {hug}

I lost 80 lbs without any surgery!!! It might take a year or more, but you can totally do this through diet and exercise!!!

    edited for spelling..ooops

    Same here.
    It's possible.
    There is never "too big"!

You should feel proud that you want to do it the right way.
Not the quick and easy way.

Kudos to you for starting the process on your own and not waiting for a doctor to tell you to do something about it.

    I started at 275lbs, I would've qualified for lap-band surgery if I chose that route, but I didn't.
I worked hard and I ate right and I had patience.
You are going to come out of this a healthier person with better eating and exercise habits - that's really what it's all about.
The weight loss is just a bonus.

I'm so sorry that you are having such a hard time. I have been where you are and so frustrated that all my efforts weren't working. Last May, I met with a nutritionist and it changed my life. After 30 years of trying every fad, Weight Watchers, Body Makeover, etc, I finally found someone that could help me lose weight in numbers I've never seen before. Tomorrow will be my one year weigh in and I know I will be over my 100 pound goal. I'm 5'3 and started at 316 pounds, so I know that it can be done. You can add me as a friend or message me if you want to know more about what I've done.

You can do this, you just have to find the right balance for your body. Good luck!

Thanks to you all wonderfully amazing people for the support! I am not going to get lap band, I am not going to take diet pills, I am going to this the right way! So I will be better about what I eat- b/c I always eat under my calories but not always healthy foods- I will be changing that- I will continue to work out! And I will loose weight. My doctor does not perscribe diet pills, I don't want them, I told her no lap band and she did not push- just broke my heart that I am that big to qualify for one.... her partner gave her some info on a weight management course that she wants to start, but that was her partner not her, maybe I should meet with her.

Just b/c I am stubborn- that is why I will find a way to loose the weight- but I am allowing my self a break down tonight- I need the tears!
