I think it has a lot to do with the relationship that is already established. I have friends that I flirt with hard....and they are good with it...but if they did not know me.....had I tried the same thing when we had only been friends a few days.....it would have been creepy.....

Establishing rapport and trust first is important, IMHO.

Yes, I think this is a good explanation. And then if the girl is not into the flirting and she sends you hints that she is not into the flirting...and yet, you keep flirting, now it is creepy.

Flirting: You look way too young to have a 23 year old.

Creepy: Would you let me give you a facial? ,,,,ok, seriously I got a PM from a guy that asked this. Now I hope you all know what he meant without me having to explain it.....

    lol..

Flirting - Telling her she's gorgeous.

Creep - Telling her she's gorgeous with your junk in your hand.

hey if shes holding your junk in your hand the least you can do is tell her she's beautiful..

If you tell her hey you know what you'd look way hot doing..?? holding my shizamm in your hands.. creepy..

just my take. I mean how'd your junk get in her hands anyway..?

This just confirms what I have already thought: there's not that much actual flirting on this site, or what I consider to be flirting. It's very polarised. You either get timidity or overt sex talk (not that there is anything wrong with that depending on the circumstances...)

Good flirting takes a little confidence on the part of the people involved ~ the ability to give and accept compliments and gestures of romantic interest, which will usually, but not always involve a sexual undertone, and will probably not lead anywhere.

Flirting is like the Tango. What happens on MFP is like a mosh pit ;)

    Totally agree with this!
Good flirting has a great deal to do with confidence and starts out with at least some attempt at subtlety..
The Tango is a perfect metaphor for it..

Flirt: Hey, you look gorgeous in that dress.

Creep: I really like the way you've positioned your underwear drawer.

Flirting is when someone looks you in the eye and smiles or says something complimentary.

Creepy is having your boss who is 30 years older than you tell you he's going to hit on you when his wife goes out of town because you're hot.

If it makes you throw up in your mouth, it's creepy.

Okay, well, now how about when you constantly see posts by someone on a friend's page, but you are not friends with this other person and decide to drop them a pm simply complimenting them on how good they look and to keep up the great work. No friend request, no pic, no questions. A fly-by compliment, if you will. Creepy?

I would have to say that's bordering on creepy. Depends what (if anything) you did after that. My personal opinion. I have a very sensitive creep monitor though.

Flirty is when it makes you wet.
Creepy is when it makes you nauseous.

If you are a HOT guy it is flirting.

If not then it will likely be regarded as creepy.

I disagree. It's all about the way you say (type) things. Humor is key, without humor, things can sound creepy.

    This!!!
You can come out with the worst line in the world, and it will work if you put the right spin on it. It's all in HOW you say it, not WHAT you say. This is why flirting over the internet can be tricky. Tone of voice and body lanuage is removed from the factors so you are left with just context.

YES! and they are usually constant FR from women under 22 (im 41, so I just auto deny) but then they PM in the most forward freaking ways that even though Im a perv (in a good way) I think girls (and yes they are girls to me) just shouldnt be doing that to old dudes like me.

See, I think this one depends very much on the current profile pic. I could probably get away with it with my current pic, but I would probably get shut down if I had the blue pic up.

I can't tell the difference. It's flirting as far as I'm concerned until I get reported to the mods (repeatedly !). Some people can't take a compliment.
