Why do some people on here say that cheese is unhealthy???

OP: To answer your question, I think people against cheese are either lactose intolerant or vegan.
I am lactose intolerant and I ate vegetarian for almost 3 years and yet I am cheese's *****.0 -
Cheese, peanut, beer, and wine :drinker: ... even if they put warning labels on that said "These will Kill You!" I probably still would eat them!
Now the question, I don't believe in fat free foods but what are your opinions on low fat cheeses???
Thanks to this thread, I just had a piece of string cheese with a side of cantalope!
Reduced fat cheese is excellent except for Fondue where the extra fat seems to keep the fondue from "breaking" and cheese sticks which are normally made with Fat free cheese is awful awful YUCK. Also lower fat cheese sticks are gross, they are acceptable in their part skim mozarrella form but if you go with something less calorie and fat dense it gets AWFUL.
Fat free sour cream, skim milk and fat free yogurt are fine and in fact Whole milk tastes like butter and not in a good way.0 -
The saturated fat in dairy has been linked to increased risk of disease.
once again source? if you are going to quote something like this - no offense but back it up
I didn't quote anything, I answered the OP's question.
I don't owe you or anyone a source and the tone of your reply suggests you are unwilling to listen to any opinion other than your own. Since everyone on here has Google I don't see why you can't find this stuff yourself, but here a few.

None of these sources are reliable. The Harvard article says soy is healthy. Enough said.
Show me some credentials that makes your opinion more valid than the scientists and doctors at Harvard and then I'll consider listening to you over them. They list their credentials and the studies to back up their recommendations.
I already posted a link showing that the recomendations from the Harvard article were garbage.
A link? One link descredits all the studies done by Harvard and all the information they've gathered from studies done by others to form their recommendations. That must have been some link.0 -
Honestly some people are just way too hardcore. You gotta live life a little. I consider cheese a source of protein. Sure maybe calorie dense but it tastes good and isn't empty calories so there are worse things to eat. As long as you're eating it in moderation. If you ate cheese all day that would be a lot of fat and you would be constipated lol
I saw far too many people saying there was no place for pizza in a healthy diet either. That just plain ticked me off. You can't live your life never eating pizza again if you hope to sustain this. Pizza is what you make it. It can be a good source of every food group if you want it to be.
Hey my gym give out free pizza the first monday of every month. How can it not be healthy? Granted I grab from either the eggplant, Pepper and Onion, or cheese box and not the meatlovers box.0 -

This looks like a very reliable source...feel free to use it as a reference
Reliable source? um yeah not like this came from NIH or anything. I would NOT consider this a source to back that up. NEXT!
Okay than, next up is advice from the NIH:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/patientinstructions/000104.htm
"Saturated fats raise your LDL ("bad") cholesterol level. High LDL cholesterol puts you at risk for heart attack, stroke, and other major health problems. You should avoid or limit foods that are high in saturated fats.
--Keep saturated fats to only 10% of your total daily calories.
--Foods with a lot of saturated fats are animal products, such as butter, cheese, whole milk, ice cream, cream, and fatty meats.
--Some vegetable oils -- coconut, palm, and palm kernel oils -- also contain saturated fats. These fats are solid at room temperature.
--A diet high in saturated fat increases cholesterol build up in your arteries (blood vessels). Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance that can cause clogged, or blocked, arteries.":
hahaha Well first, I won't even get into how poor the sources are on that NIH article, and the influence that the corn/healthcare industry has over them.
This is wrong, outdated science. There are different types of LDL, having high LDL means nothing.
Your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat. The production of cholesterol increases when you eat little cholesterol and decreases when you eat much. Not eating cholesterol does nothing but increase your bodies production.. of cholesterol.
Science!
That article is advice directly from the NIH and it's current advice. Whether or not you choose to take their advice is entirely up to you. The post to which I replied implied that a point was not valid because "it's not like it came from the NIH", so I was merely pointing out what the NIH thought of the fat in cheese. And now the argument is that NIH doesn't know it's science.
Let me guess. The National Institute of Health is wrong and relies on bad science. Harvard is wrong and relies on bad science. Webmd is wrong and relies on bad science. The American Heart Association is wrong and relies on bad science. The Mayo Clinic is wrong and relies on bad science. The Center for Disease Control is wrong and relies on bad science. Everybody who disagrees with you is wrong and relies on bad science. Is that about it?0 -
Because its a dairy product and although its good calcium for your bones dairy slows down your metabolism & the salt in it is not really good for you salt helps store unneeded watter that can cause you to have some extra weight on your body! Allllsooo if you eat enough it can constipate you lol :-)http://www.chacha.com/question/does-dairy-slow-down-your-metabolism

So where is the info that says dairy slows down metabolism? Its not stated here. Sorry but that is the dumbest thing that I ever heard.0 -
FALSE?? HM Lol are you all illiterate? Or do you just not know anything about nutrition :-D.
Btw i never said stop eating salt and or cheese I SIMPLY JUST SAID SALT CAN CAUSE YOU TO HAVE SOME EXTRA WATER WEIGHT TO BE STORED ON YOUR BODY! DUE TO THE SODIUM!!!!!!!!!
DEEEERR!dairy slows down your metabolismthe salt in it is not really good for you
Salt is good for you. You need salt to live. Too much salt from ANY source can be a problem. Cheese has nothing to do with it.
To sum up, please provide sources or stop saying ridiculous things.

Adult fish still eat fish. Sadly blackening spices and tartar sauce are beyond their reach.0 -
it is not natural for humans to consume dairy. Think about it, google it.
i LOVE it though, but it does make us old and sick. and fat.0 -
If you're not into cheese...No sense even talking to me.
Cheese is art and culture in food form. Hell marathon runners have been utilizing Reggiano as a fuel source for decades.0 -

So if I don't eat dairy I won't get old, I'll become magically unsick and I will shed pounds like crazy?
Wow. Dairy is the anti-food.
The number on my ticker is still going up, even though I eat that evil yogurt, cheese, butter and cream. You keep your silly over-generalizations to yourself and stop presuming things about people's bodies and I'll keep my opinions about how silly it is to say what you say. Fair?0 -

It makes us old? I thought living did that.0 -

That makes me sad for fish. And now I want tartar sauce.
As for the topic at hand, I believe cheese is delicious and eat it daily. It's not something I'm willing to give up.0 -
Cheese is made of Milk. Even Cows don't drink milk once they wean. Why do humans think drinking or eating it is healthy?
Oh dear. Well, cows also don't use emergency surgical procedures to save each other's lives. Cows don't filter the water they drink to remove impurities. Maybe we should stop those things too.
Unless you are lactose intolerant (which, given, many people are) there is nothing wrong with dairy products from healthy animals.0 -
Cheese has fat in it...you can't lose weight if you eat food with fat in it!!!
BTW not my personal opinion lol
Apparently the person who came up with that opinion has never heard of healthy fats. It blows my mind the crap that people tell themselves when it comes to losing weight. If you cut ALL fats out of your diet your body will be so confused that it will hold onto any fat that it CAN get (Aka-starvation mode. Also happens when people think it's healthy to cut down to 800 calories a day....but I'll leave that rant for later). Maybe people should just learn how to eat a hand full of walnuts or soybeans instead of an entire bag of cheese puffs.
It's also ironic that fish oil, nuts, and other high fat sources are recommended when trying to reduce body fat. Hmm....?0 -

^This. Why do people insist we should live like an animal lives? I prefer not to crap in the water I drink, run recklessly over pocked fields in a blind panic and dying from a broken leg, and eat grass and weeds all day long.
And whoever said that cows having four stomachs was a sign that humans weren't designed to process milk...um, just no. No. Cows (and other ruminants) have four chambers because they eat *grass*, which is high in cellulose and takes longer to break up and derive nutrients from.0 -
I love cheese, I eat it everyday normally with an apple.0

You post 4 individual studes as "proof"? Science doesn't work that way, my friend. Just becasue a study is more recent, does not make it more or less valid. Considering how many studies have been done on fat, how can 4 be relevant, except as pieces of a big puzzle?
One must consider all the studies, all the information gathered, not just the information from a few hand-picked in an attempt to prove a point. This is what the scientists who make recommendations do. They look at all information avialable to formulate those recommendations. And this is why I choose to stick with the recommendations of the medical science community over a few random internet users/bloggers.
That said, I love cheese and eat it. But like all foods that have been linked to increased risk of disease, I limit how much I eat. Given all the information at hand, that seems the most reasonable thing to me.
That's why we have meta-analyses and reviews:

Don't believe everything you read (or watch on YouTube).
High levels of aluminum were only found in heavily processed cheese like Kraft singles.
Here is an explanation of cheese mites: http://www.thekitchn.com/the-cheesemonger-you-mite-like-63866
When was the last time you heard of someone catching "cheese mite dermatitis"? If this is such an issue, why is it completely unheard of outside of a few obscure papers?
As far as saturated fat, I urge you to do your own research.
