Eat less move more - I cut down portion size and started to excercise. Lost 20 pounds then stalled.
Eat more to weigh less - Raised my calories and protein cut back the carbs a bit and started losing again.
Lift Heavy - Stopped playing with the barbie weights and got serious, now seeing some amazing changes.
All three have helped me so much.0 -
Most people are sitting on the sofa like they are waiting for someone else to come in and get them started ...thats just not going to happen...reality is YOU ARE YOUR HERO... there are some things in life that only you can do...exercise and choosing what you put in your mouth are two of them.0

I'm not sure it's weight loss advice but it deals with exercise.
When I was close to passing out in my very first spin class, my instructor said,
"You're here, that's what's important."

If you can't full-size it, fun-size it!
Basically, if you're really craving something badly and only that thing will work, you can probably fit it into your diet easily if you shrink or limit the portions. I do this a lot with pie - 210 cals for a 1/5 sized slice? Okay, I'll cut my pie into 15 slices and have one for 70 cals. I win!
It's probably not the best advice for staying healthy, but it has kept me on track more than once.0 -
I lost 35 pounds in 5 months. At least once a week at work someone asked me "what's the SECRET" to losing the weight? It's not really a secret, it's math. Based on your weight and average daily activity, your body needs a certain amount of calories to maintain weight. Calculating a deficit from there, will let you determine a weight loss pace. Eating less and/or exercising more, in combination leads to that deficit.0

As a vegetarian for decades, it took me forever to learn EAT ENOUGH PROTEIN AND GOOD FATS, and then you'll feel satisfied, be healthy, and not fill up with carbohydrates that get you nowhere but unsatisfied and fat. Also, it's important to know if you have any food allergies or sensitivities, since that can make you bloated/fat/inflamed/ill/etc., and is better to avoid. When I eat wheat products, I gain two inches on my waist within hours; if I avoid eating it, I can eat the same or more calories, and stay two inches slimmer. *shrug*0

A few quotes and statements always stick out to me:
"No matter how slow you're running, you're still lapping everyone on the couch."

"If you want it bad enough, you'll do what you have to do." -- this obviously applies to more than just weightloss but my brother told me this the other day when I was asking him about weightloss. He said he had gone to the day everyday for a month straight. And when I asked him what he did on the days he REALLY didn't feel like going, this is what he said.0 -

One of my co-workers from Mexico was like "Just don't eat and you will loose weight" and he was serious!! lol lol But, no I think the best advice was "Lift weights to loose weight the more muscle you have the more fat you burn" words I now live by pumping iron is my hobby!!0

DEFINITELY this! This advice has made all the difference in the world to me. I no longer deprive myself with diets. Instead I have made positive changes in how and what I eat as well as doing my best to exercise everyday. I'm finally losing weight, eating healthy and not depriving myself of the "bad" food I may want every once in a while.
The other advice that helped me was:
When you go out to dinner at a restaurant immediately ask for a takeout box and put half of your meal in the box. It will keep you from eating twice the amount of calories and double the portions you should be eating. Also, tell the waitress NOT to bring the bread basket! =-0
Also, whenever you are eating a meal drink a LOT of water. If you fill up on water you probably won't eat more than you should and you definitely won't have room for dessert.
Finally, when you think you're hungry and you know you just ate a balanced meal drink 16 ounces of water and wait about fifteen minutes. If you still feel hungry after filling up on water chances are you are truly hungry. If not, then you're probably not. This has saved me from eating needless calories many times!0
