Fat Clothes - Toss or Pack Away?

Here's what I've done:
DONATE most items that were just for trend.
TAILOR items that are classics and can be modified to fit my body.
TOSS items that you know you should NEVER wear again, regardless of trend/style.
KEEP a "measure my inches lost" pair of jeans and dress and anything in a smaller size.
Celebrate.
(repeat)
This.
I donate the things I don't want any longer, and I tailor the things that I love. Either way, I get rid of my bigger clothes because otherwise they become a safety net and assure me that I'll be ok if I get that big again. And I won't be ok! Not having anything to wear was what prompted me to lose about 40 pounds a few years ago, and that has been the best motivator for me. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!0 -
Sell them on Ebay and use the profit to buy stuff in your current size. Simples.
^ This
I just sold a load of my old baggy clothes which no longer fit me on eBay and had made £40 which goes nicely towards getting some new smaller clothes! Out with the old, in with the new.0 -
Box and hide away in basement garage attic or whatever you have. My husband won't let me donate mine, I have them boxed away. Just in case I get pregnant or something he tells me.
I can see where he is coming from.. Some people gain a ridiculous amount of weight during pregnancy and if babies are in your future might as well hold on to some just so you have something to where post baby.. only until you lose it again
But if no babies are in the future I say sell them at a yard sale or donate them them to charity. No need in hanging on to something you won't ever wear again.. Because even as you age, your now trendy clothes will go out of style and you will not wear them anyway...0 -
Depends what they are like. If they are sexy (which I very much doubt - nobody has sexy fat clothes) then get them altered. Otherwise, toss. Or, better yet, ritually burn - very satisfying!
How sad what a waste, there are many people in need. Just give them away.0 -
Throw them out, I never keep them anymore....When I do keep them they are like an old comfort just in case hanging there!!!0
-
Send them to me0
-
DO NOT KEEP THEM! You will be setting yourself up for failure! Do you really want to be this size again?
Donate them or take them to a consignment shop!!!
DO NOT KEEP THEM!!!!!!0 -
Get rid of them. Give them to Goodwill or a homeless shelter.
Your reasoning is a bit sabotaging...you WILL not need to wear a larger size again0 -
I gave them to Goodwill.....no sense to keep the past in the present as the present is a new me0
-
Keep one outfit from your biggest size. You'll need it for the "holy crap look how small I am now" picture.
Donate the rest unless something is Tailorable, tailor that.
I am about to donate my biggest suit. Hopefully it will help someone find a job. I'm having my other suit tailored since it was rather big the last time I wore it and I have a wedding in September I need it for. I need to find out how long tailoring will take since I want to hold out until the last moment for the best size as I'll still be losing then.0 -
Pick your favorites that you dont want to live without, find a taylor and have them altered to your new size. Donate the rest and enjoy building your new closet for your new body.
^^This. If you do have an emotional attachment to a dress or outfit, then get it altered to fit your new self.0 -
I have donated most of mine that are way too big to wear. Getting them out of my closet and seeing how few things I actually can fit into...motivates me to keep moving forward, plus...ya get to buy new clothes!!!
BTW- wish you lived closer.. your 'fat clothes" are what I am wearing now!!!0 -
I'm a single parent and a teacher. I struggle with money as well. However, box those clothes up and find another teacher or friend that can use them. What they don't want donate them. It's the only way that you'll have room for the fantastic fitting clothes that you can fit in now. How many normal weight people do you know who say I think I'll buy some clothes two sizes too big for when I get fat enough to fit in them? I'm not trying to be harsh but you'll feel better. I went through all my clothes. I pitched what was out of fashion, ugly, in disrepair, or just was never gonna wear it. Then I could really see what clothes actually fit and was able to make outfits. It also allowed me to buy new things based on what I already had. Good luck!0

I just started last week so I am still in my fat clothes but I plan to lose them ALL once I lose the weight! I have some really nice $50-$100 dresses that I plan to have taken in to fit my new size once I get there but as for the rest I will be dropping them off at Goodwill and NEVER looking back! I feel like keeping them would be like telling myself that it is OK to gain the weight back and I do not want that.0
-
get rid of them0
-
I am so confused on clothing sizes...what use to be small is med now ,,,med.is lg...lg.is xlg..etc....its really hard to say what size people wear any more ...I say keep the best and donate the rest......
I say sell and make some money for new clothes. I gave mine away to a friend who ended up selling them. Gerrr… I was going to do that but she said she wanted them.0 -
Either donate or sell, don't keep them. You don't want the temptation to think, "Well its only 5lbs I gained, I have clothes that fit."0
-
Toss. Period.0
-
I gave a lot of mine to a fellow MFP member who needed them. See if any of your MFP friends needs new clothes. If not, donate them.0
-
I'd say donate them and save maybe on pair of pants, for before and after pics :drinker:
Congrads on your loss!!0 -
I say donate the good ones and toss the rest.0
-
I've been giving mine away - on freecycle or on my fatdykes mailing list. It makes me feel so much better to give them away.0
-
TOSS ALL FAT CLOTHES
Whatevcer about keeping skinny clothes as an aim to get back into them, you don;t want to be doing that with the fat ones.0 -
Maybe you can have a few of them altered to fit your new body.0
-
I gave ALL my FAT clothes to the poor. Just gave them all away because I don't want ANYTHING in my possession of the old me except pictures. No point because I will never go back to how I was.0
-
If they are too loose donate them. I packed mine away the first two times I lost weight and grew right back into them. It was too easy to unpack them. If you've got nothing to grow back into and your clothes start to get snug it's a constant reminder that you need to lose the few pounds - while it's still a few pounds.0
-
Sell them and buy new clothes!!0
-
Donate them to a women's shelter.0
-
Consignment stores... just keep trading in and trading up clothes. So you are not spending as much money as you keep losing weight.0
-
TOSS them!! I think that packing away says "I'll probably get back there again." If you are committed to changing...toss them:) I bet it will be quite liberating.0
