Why is a man's attractiveness defined by his height???

I don't know that height is attached to attractiveness...but confidence is...
and quite frankly, tall men carry confidence a lot easier than shorter men do, that's not to say it can't be done, because I've known some VERY confident shorter men and believe me...as a result VERY attractive shorter men...
but with society deeming tallness as a symbol of desirable genetics, they dont have to be as confident as a shorter gentleman does, their tallness almost lends them confidence (unless they slouch...)
but shorter men can totally be bring it, you just have to believe 100% in what you bring to the table, and that will make you very attractive.0 -
I dated short guys, average height guys, big guys, small guys. I was attracted to the person, not he height. Before I met my husband, the tallest guy I had dated was 5'11". My husband is 6'5", but I met him online, and had been communicating with him for a while before I knew how tall he was, so it was not a factor.0

I'm 5'11 and height is not as big a deal to me as it is to other tall women I know. I appreciate being able to look at my man face to face. Before my current s/o, who is 6'0, all the men I dated and liked were taller. My ex was 6'5 and a guy I dated before him was 6'4.
And just being honest, my s/o now is much more attractive than either of them. Height and attractiveness are not connected for every woman.0 -
I think this has to do partly with the fact that it's our nature. Just as a man seeks a woman with childbearing curves. Women want to "feel" protected. Someone to watch over them. Tall men make us feel secure.
It's embedded in us. Plain and simple. Lol sure they're exceptions but this is generally speaking.0 -
I really don't know either. Height shouldn't be such a deal breaker for girls just as dress size shouldn't be for men. I think it's a protection thing for girls... we always seem to want somebody bigger and stronger The idea that they can only take care of us if they're tall and muscular, however, should stop. I think that women who are stronger and more confident in their ability to protect themselves are probably less likely to think like this. I'm no scientist, but this makes sense to me...0

Why is a womans attractiveness defined by her weight???? Because society perpetuates stereotypes of slim women with big breasts as being attractive and tall men with well defined muscles as attractive. It slaps us in the face daily on tv, in magazines, we are "trained" to associate a certain "look" with whats attractive. Unfortunately for the majority of us, that look is not realistic. It sounds cliche, but it really is what is inside that counts and when a woman looks inside of you and loves that ... that'll be your girl.
^^^ THIS. Its tough being a short guy - but its also tough being a chubby woman w no boobs - both instances go against what "society wants".... that being said, long term relationships and friendships go far deeper than those attributes - you wouldnt want to be with someone who is only considering one physical aspect anyways....0 -
I'm 5'8, my hubby is 5'9...I think it's a cuddly/security thing...all the ladies like to feel like their men can kick butt when needed (or look like they can anyways)
That said, I in no way would not date someone based on this though.
I've dated shorter than me and taller than me.
But I do agree that the taller the better...just like why are women's attractiveness defined by their boobs and butt?
life's not fair, you get over it though0 -
I'm a 5'9 male who I think is fairly attractive but was told that I would be much more attractive if I was only 6 ft tall. Ladies, why is a man's attractiveness defined by his height? Why is height soooo important to women
It's not important to this woman. My husband is the same height I am (5'4") I find a man's heart his most attractive feature. Continue to work on your heart and the woman you attract will be a gift!0 -
I agree that it's about confidence. My mom always told me that short guys tend to have a complex. She's generalizing though. There are some guys out there that are short, but they don't let it get to them.
5'9" is not short though.0 -
I love tall guys too. It depends on preference. I'm a bit taller than the average girl, so that has to do with it.
But, I think some short guys are great and are good looking...just not for me.0 -
I dunno. I dated a shorter guy before. Not sure what his exact height was, but I'm only 5'4.5" so he wasn't very tall lol.0
-
that is a good question. Cannot wait to read all of the updates.0
-
I didn't realize it mattered...i guess I'm behind. As long as he's taller than me (or even equal to with heels on) I don't care lol.0
-
And I thought it was all about what a man was packing in his pants!!!0
-
Actually, I prefer shorter guys. I'm not talking like freakishly small but most of the guys I've been interested in have been between 5'3"-5'10" (I'm 5'3"). I dated a guy who was 6'3" briefly and actually found it rather awkward when we'd start kissing. He'd end up kinda crouching and his knees would hit my thighs and then I'd feel bad that he was having to crouch down.0
-
I don't think it necessarily is... there are a LOT of attractive shorter men. My 'type' is tall and thin with dark hair (lucked out with my hubby)0
-
I'm 5'6". As long as the guy is not shorter than that I'm good. Just like guys, there's some things some girls are and are not attracted to. But no matter what the height, it doesnt affect a man being good looking or not. It's just awkward to date a guy who's shorter than me. For me anyway.0

Hubby is 5'7" and we celebrate 34 yrs in August......no problem for me! (of course I am 5'3")!0
-
I'm 5'1. It feels like everyone's taller. I am actually physically intimidated by a friend of a friend who is 6'5. His legs alone are pretty much the length of my body. I kind of inch my way away from him, or stand on a step or something so I don't feel so short.0

My tall hubby makes me feel little...0

If someone tells you that you'd be more attractive if you were taller, they're looking at you more as arm decor than as a person they want to spend more time with. Being around people with lousy attitudes isn't worth the stress. You deserve better.0

As a woman who is 5'10", I can tell you that it is hard to feel feminine when you are taller than the average male. There is something very sexy about feeling small and feminine next to a man. Short girls CANNOT understand this. They have always felt this way. That being said...my husband and I are the same height. So just because it makes you feel pretty, it doesn't define your relationships.
I feel the same way. I am 6'1 and when a guy is shorter than me I feel like a giant. I am married to someone 5'10 and I didn't dance at our wedding cause I felt so awkward. It seems silly, but I still felt that way.
Edit: every guy I ever met 6'1 and taller dated women 5'6 and under. I guess it works both ways, maybe shorter girls make a guy feel more masculine.0 -
do you know what IS attractive.. being confident and able to work with the lot you've been dealt.. do you know what IS NOT attractive... asking insecure questions....
You mean like, "does this make my butt look big?"
exactly.. and chances are if you're asking the question.. you already know the answer..0 -
because us giants are just smexy like that :laugh:0
-
5'7" and any chick who passes on me because of my height, definitely missed out on the opportunity of a lifetime.0
-
Look, everyone has their preferences in what they want in a mate. I prefer tall men. It makes me feel safer. I am 5'8 and my husband is 6'4. I have dated shorter men and men my height and it was okay but the tall ones always got more chances. :flowerforyou:0

...just like why are women's attractiveness defined by their boobs and butt?
life's not fair, you get over it though
Wrong. A woman's boobs and butt my grab our attention. But if you look like you fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch and was dumb enough to climb back and go back for seconds... I wouldn't even put a flag over your face and do it for the country.0 -
I do not define a man's attractiveness by his height but rather by his mile splits and ability to do pushups...0
-
Very interesting question .. and yes.. at times it has been somewhat intimidating during life.
But a man is not defined by his height, nor other physical "typical" attributes... a man is defined by his GUTS!!!..
Do you have what it takes to get that woman you want???.. then go get her!!.. that's my answer!!..0 -
Does it matter if the guy is taller than you or it's a deal breaker if he's not a certain designated height?
I am only 5 feet tall so you are all taller than me. I married a tall guy but have dated and been attracted to shorter guys...0
