COFFEE LOVERS - Anyone given it up?
Replies

I will not give it up! But I drink it with milk (very little) and I cut sugar out completely!!0
-
Two cups with Truvia in the morning, then water or seltzer the rest of the day0
-
I give it up completely after reading that there are approx 130 chemicals in the production?? Don't shoot me - just what I read. I was drinking 8 cups a day at that point but I've swapped to a lemon and ginger tea in the mornings0
-
I've tried but haven't been successful. I drink one cup in the morning (ranging from 8oz - 16oz, depends on the "cup" size) while I'm sitting in the peace and quiet at work. Honestly, it's my saving grace... I can't stand my job but knowing that I can have my cup of coffee in the mornings before anyone else gets to work keeps my sanity in tact
I usually drink it black, though. Sometimes I'll add a pack of Splenda.0 -
I don't think I will ever give up my coffee. I love it too much. I did cut out the high sugar creamers and use splenda instead of sugar. Dont give up everything that you love.0
-
I have to have my morning coffee. I have stopped going to Starbucks and getting the lattes and such. Usually brew a couple cups with my Keurgic each morning for my morning commute and use a little fat free half and half and splenda.0
-
HELL NO! There is NO way I could give up coffee and still be human enough to be around! :laugh:0
-
No way am I giving it up. I even started using skim with my coffee... ughhhh.. What I do now is cut down to 2 cups max of coffee a day. My morning cup is cold brewed with 1/2 tbsp of half and half and the rest skim milk.
I highly recommend the Cold Toddy brew system. The coffee concentrate comes out pure and with low acidity. The taste is phenomenal. I use the Costco Roasted by Starbucks whole beans in the green bag.
I can give up a lot of stuff... but coffee is with me for the long haul.

Nope. Have to have my morning coffee, and sometimes one cup in the afternoon. Don't see how it can be that bad for me. :-D0
-
I haven't given up coffee, but I have given up caffiene. Wasn't a problem. I think I just drink a cup of decaf in the morning out of habit.0
-
Never! And it has to be black with one spoon of demerara sugar - not sweetener (unless it is a sugar and stevia blend) I have one cup of freshly brewed coffee every morning. That is what keeps me sane! 22 calories with real sugar. 8 calories with the sugar/stevia blend. I would never ever ever have it without sugar - YUCK!
(and it absolutely must not be decaffeinated coffee)0 -
no never going to happen :drinker: :drinker:0

I love love love coffee but I know I should probably cut it out of my diet. I only drink 2 cups max per day, but would like to try cutting it out altogether. My questions to you are:
1. Have you had any benefits from cutting it out?
2. Are there any good replacements?
Thanks guys xx
I actually don think the coffee is the issue, more what you put in it (creamer, sugar, artificial sweetener) - try it black or with some low fat milk, almond milk or coconut milk???
Actually i have better results when i KEEP coffee in my diet (in plain form) - i have also read its good for the metabolism but I'm not sure how true that is
alternatives i've found are: dandelion latte, macha latte, chai (low fat/sugar versions), mate late (argo tea USA), or what about decaf?
hope that helps!0 -
Just recently started to get into coffee. I've always liked it, but now.. I drink it daily at work. "I like my coffee like I like my men. Black." (quote from Airplane!)
I go on 2 week soda fasting. During that time I get depressed without caffeine. I also get depressed without nicotine. But if I have both, I feel great. Thank you black coffee. Thank you ecig.

I never drank coffee my whole life. This winter I drank some here and there at work in order to warm myself up as I am cold all the time. Then I did some reading and found that there are major health benefits to moderate coffee drinking. So recently I bought a Keurig and have a cup of coffee every morning (black).0

Hell no!!!! Before I was on maintenance, I did switch to almond milk in my lattes and cappucinos to save calories, but now I am back to 2%. I usually have a double cappucino in the morning (on running days, a shot of espresso before my run, too), and then a regular cappuccino midafternoon, and then sometimes again the evening. So usually at least 3 shots of espresso every day - sometime 5 or more!0
-
NEVER!
Although I drink it black or with just milk. Don't like sugar in my coffee.0 -
Why do you think you need to give up coffee? Are there good nutritional/health reasons, or is this part of the diet-deprivation mindset? If you drink double-caramel lattes with whipped cream, I would definitely look at ways to cut down on added sugars and fats, and learn to love real, unadulterated coffee - my personal preference is for a proper espresso. Otherwise, if you're drinking a couple of good-quality coffees a day, as well as plenty of other liquids, I'm struggling to think of reasons why it would need to go.
I just never used to drink it before and I wonder if it's something I actually need in my diet. However, you've made a pretty valid point with the things you say so I am considering switching to a better quality coffee and just ditching the Starbucks I drink (yes - totally guilty of indulging in these and the nutritional values for them are awful!)
Caffeine is a drug. I am addicted as well. Just because it comes in form of a food doesn't mean it is not a drug. Caffeine has no benefit to your health unless you are a neonate who forgets to breath occasionally. There are certainly negative effects from caffeine intake, especially if you have medical conditions like GERD or high blood pressure. I have cut back from 2 cups to 1 daily and have seen a significant difference in the way I feel and in my GERD symptoms. Why put something in your body to alter it's function when you don't have to? Your body runs much more efficiently when you power it with whole foods and the right nutrients.0 -
Why give it up if you love it?
Just try to cut down on milk/cream and sugars.
I have been drinking black coffee, no sugar since I don´t know when.
I haven´t cut down since I started and I have lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks. 2 lbs per week.
My coffee drinking doesn´t affect my progress. Only thing that has are my injuries for this week.0 -
For the safety and well being of others, I have not given up coffee! Actually, I'm one of those coffee snobs that likes the taste of good coffee, so I can turn down coffee I don't like the taste of.0
-
nope
but count the cals - including milk0 -
love my coffee! but I dont enjoy black coffee. I have however gone from latte's to caps with my nespresso...a huuuuge reduction in the amount of milk and therefore cals0

I think black coffee has virtually no calories... but I like my coffee creamy and sweet so I have cut down to one per day, when I arrive at work in the morning. I take 2 milk instead of cream, and I use Sugar Twin instead of sugar. It's about 30 calories a cup I think. If I'm really tired or just want more coffee, I will use real sugar since Sugar Twin is like aspartame and stuff, which is bad for your brain, and I'm prone to migraines anyway, so 2 Sugar Twins a day will 99% probably give me a headache.
I also discovered that powdered milk has less calories than the amount of milk I would use! But I am trying to cut back on coffee sweetness, maybe eventually I can have it every day with no sugar or aspartame (it's the devil!)0 -
Before I started my "summer diet" I would drink 2 cups per day with a ton of sugar and vanilla half and half. To me, it's not worth the calories so I've switched to waking up with water. It takes a little longer for me to wake up but it's worth it to me.
However I will have my iced coffee with splenda and half and half while I'm at work (Starbucks!)0 -
I can't think of any reason to give up the high quality coffee I grind and brew myself and drink in the morning. I don't add a lot of high calorie stuff to it and it doesn't interfere with my sleep. Recent studies seem to indicate that coffee is good for you. and the decaf? That is the stuff that has had a lot of chemical processes done to it.0

I considered it... but nope. I adjusted it though. I found an AMAZING recipe... I turned a frozen coffee drink into a protein shake.. I love it, It is a good 300 calorie meal replacement. So damn good! =p
2/3 cup of extra strong coffee
2/3 cup of milk (1% is what I use)
1.5 tsps vanilla extract or imitation vanilla
4 pks sugar substitute
2 tsps regular sugar
2 tbls of caramel topping (or chocolate)
2 tbls of whipped cream!!!
1 scoop of protein powder..
Blend it all up.. 1 table spoon of caramel goes in the blender, the other on top!
This recipe makes a LOT..I didn't have time to drink all of it... so I used 1/3 cup of coffee and milk..0 -
If it tastes disgusting, try brewing is weaker. My husband introduced me to weaker coffee years ago and I LOVE it. Example: Instructions for coffee are to use one scoop for every two cups of coffee. I have a 12 cup pot and use only three scoops of a medium roast ground. I am a coffee snob now, because I can taste the difference. It is amazing.0

I only started drinking coffee about two years ago and I'm 46 years old! But when I was pregnant with my first son I had done a LOT of reading on the subject. Seems that every one wants to trash coffee. But study after study after study designed to show all the dangers of the evil drink only showed neutral or benefits. These were short term studies, generally, and showed things like people felt better, preformed better on memory tests and such--short term benefits that all coffee drinkers already knew. But now, 25 years later there are longer bigger better studies coming out and they show things like a huge protective benefit against Alzheimer's, and some protection from Type 2 diabetes and Parkinson's and a plain ol' 10% less risk of dying from ANYTHING in a given period of time. Some of these things are from the caffeine, but others may be from other substances naturally in the coffee (dark chocolate, anyone?) About 3 cups a day (that would be 6 ounce cups--coffee is measured in old-fashioned 6 ounce coffee cups--more than about 7 cups daily starts making some folks problems. And it WILL interfere with sleep! Don't drink it late. Only drink it very early in the day if you're breastfeeding (and I'd limit the amount I drank pregnant or breastfeeding--but I wouldn't eliminate it unless I just wanted to)
Personally, I drink it with a bit of skim milk--after all the years I couldn't stand the stuff, I found I liked it that way--and that keeps the caffeine from pulling calcium from your bones. In the early afternoon for a pick-me-up-snackie-thing I put a cup of coffee with a cup of milk and some Stevia over ice. And I tell you what--they are not going to be finding health benefits in any soda at all, so enjoy your coffee!0 -
I am a coffee addict for real. Just the smell gives me joy. I use to drink it all day. When I say all day I mean with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime. What I found works for me is cutting back. I drink 2 cups a day. The first is usually before morning cardio or directly after. I don't use SUGAR... That was hard.. I tried Agave Nectar (but that has twice a much calories as regular sugar). Artificial sweetners... noooooo, ( I don't like the after taste).
Nonetheless, I just cut out sugar but I do use flavored creamers. Measuring it to teaspoon ....
You really have to play with different combinations and flavors to see what your tastebuds like. I hope you find something good..... LUCK.0 -
