Who's on Week 4?!
I'm excited to say that I completed week 4, day 1 yesterday and although the 5 minute runs felt like they lasted forever I felt so much better afterwards! Who else is on week 4 or around it?

How often should I work out?
Is it necessary to exercise more than the three times a week the C25K program is? Has anybody done it by itself without any other form of exercise? I'm just curious.

Are you a penguin?
John Bingham said “At age 43, when I decided to run again, I realized that the images used to describe runners didn't fit me. I wasn't a rabbit. I wasn't a gazelle or a cheetah or any of the other animals that run fast and free. But I wasn't a turtle or a snail either. I wasn't content anymore to move slowly through my…

New here! Starting week 6 today
Hi all, so glad to find this group! I am up to week 6 of the Couch To 5k, and have really been enjoying it. I am someone that has always HATED running - in fact I skipped school to avoid the complulsry cross-country run every year in high school! But I have a two year old and a 5 month old and needed an exercise that…

I DID IT!!!!
I just completed my first 5k. I really focused on pacing myself, I kind of went a little too fast when my app said I was at the halfway point. When I had .4 mile left my legs were aching. I told myself, finish strong, you've worked hard for this. When I was at .2 I was like, OMG, why are you doing this to yourself, then I…

Too fast?
I have been going to the gym for about a month or so and about half of that I am just randomly walking or jogging on a treadmill. I decided I needed a goal and some structure to what I was doing so I started C25k. I am overweight (170 lbs), 5'7. I just finished W1D1 and I walked at 7 km/hr and jogged at 10 km/hr. That felt…

Choosing a running track?
Hi all I'm going to start c25k this week and am looking at where to run How did you choose your path? Do I just leave the house and run 2.5k in one direction then turn around? Or drive to a proper running track? Thanks!

If you signed up for a race before you finished C25K
:flowerforyou: I'm very proud of you. Seriously. That shows how determined and serious you are about this. Good luck!

I've caught the running bug!
Hi All I've been lurking for a bit but thought I'd introduce myself now I know I'm definitely not going to back out of the programme like a wuss!!!! I'm 28, female, current weight is about 147lbs. I start Week 4 of C25K today. I've never liked running because well I've always been rubbish at it. But the C25K has made it…

Noob questions
I'm only on week three of C25K so I am very new to running. I was an athlete in college, playing football and lacrosse, but never ran more than a couple of miles at once. Now that I am older (39), I'm trying take what I knew about fitness and apply it to what I am doing now. Having said all of that I have some questions…

Can someone explain these phrases?
I've been following a running thread on the exercise and fitness board and there are a few things I'm not clear on. I've not long completed C25k and run my first race on Thanksgiving day. I'm still not quite able to run the full 5k. I'm up to 2.5 miles so I should make it by November. It's taken me 5 months to get this…

How do you record c2k5
Hello, I just started week 1 and wondering how others are recording this exercise? I simply posted a 5 min walk @ 3mph and then 25mins walk @ 5mph. I'm not a stats guy, I round and don't care for the exact as much as I would like to get in the general ballpark. Also, any tips on how to stretch my shin muscles? BURN!!!…

My first 5k
My first running 5k is next Tuesday. It's a Halloween theme and it benefits the hospital I work at. It's pretty big for around here, usually around 3000 runners. Last years male winner ran it in 15:27, the female winner in 19:12. I looked up my results and I completed it in 41:21 in 2010, that was probably the second or…

My progress tracking thread
Hi All, Im going to post my progress in this thread. mainly a way for me to have quick access to all my runs, but feel free to chime in any time. Started last night with W1D1. Managed to keep my average running pace under 6min/km (my goal pace for 5km in 30mins) and managed to punch out my final running interval at under…

First 5K
I along with my running partner ran our first 5k today. It was a first for both of us. It was so great! We came in at 38 minutes. We finished week 7 of c25k on Friday so we still have two more weeks of training, but I thought we did great for two old moms. Check one off the bucket list and come next spring when it gets…

Strength and Flex
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has tried the strength and flex podcasts in conjunction with the C25K? If so, has it made a difference to your physique?

Finished, although the universe was plotting against me.
Here is my graduation story. Not as perfect as I'd hoped. I was bummed my phone died, because I had a great pace and was going to make sure I did a full 5k. I considered going home and redoing this run again, but I decided to push through and not worry about mileage. I cut and copied this from what i posted on Facebook. I…

Shin Aches After Less Running ??
So knowing I shouldn't have, I pushed myself twice in W7 D1 and D2 to run the entire 5k. I felt great, my legs felt great so I did it and had absolutely no issues. However I am also doing the Stronglifts 5x5 program alternating with my C25K program, and I was kind of sore the last few days from squats and deads. Because of…

Runners with Asthma
So, now that it's starting to get cooler outside I'm finding that I'm having a hard time with my asthma. Not full blown attacks, but a tightness in the chest, and a bit of wheezing and coughing. I know that when it gets cold, I'm going to start having a hard time. Are there ways to combat this, or am I going to have to…

New Guy Here...Glad I Found This Group
Hey all, I am actually kind of excited I found this group. It's great that I can come here and talk with people who know EXACTLY what you are going through in trying to become a runner. I have friend and family, and they are basically split into two groups. The first are the family/ friends who are glad of your…

I'm new. Looking 4 encouragement & weightloss friends!
I am 39 and heavier than I ever thought I would be, 265lbs!! I thought I was fat at 220! I am a full time student and hold the couch down way to much. So, before I hit 40 I am making some changes! My goal is to get to 190lbs and be able to run a 5k race! Feel free to add me for reciprocal support!

Am I running too fast?
Hello :) I've just finished week 2 day 2 of my program (I'm using the zen labs app), but I'm a little concerned because with the warm up and cool down, 31 mins in total, I'm already covering just over 2 miles which seems like a lot considering after 8 weeks the goal is 3 miles. I try to go at a pace where I don't have to…

Stages of Running
These feelings might be hit at different distances with other people, but can anybody else relate? I made a great analogy of running to death today as I was dying on my run lol. The normal stages of death are Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. Maybe the feelings I get from running aren't exactly like…

Sore bum
Ok... this is an embarrassing question, but honestly... it's a pain in my .... right. The muscle just below the butt cheek is the trouble maker. I can't figure out how to stretch it out but the pain has been very annoying. Anyone have a suggestion? BTW... Haven't posted in a bit but I will run W6D3 tonight. Super excited…

My 15 Min Stretch Routine
I had a few people asking about my stretching/flexibility routine that I have adopted. Here it is: http://www.runnersworld.com/stretching/flexibility-loosen?page=single You will need a rope or exercise band to do these (they are cheap...like $6 for a set of three). I do this twice a day, in the morning after my runs (or…

Sooo, has anyone lost a toenail?
I'm asking because out on the main forums, about a week ago, there was a post about running and one poster was talking about losing a toenail from running. Another poster replied something like, 'yes, that's how you know you're a runner' and then there were way too many replies of 'me too' . One person said that they've…

Anyone else have a schedule like this one?
I know there are different schedules out there for this program, but mine seems a little different. It starts with 5 minutes warm up, 5 minute cool down at the end of walking, and in between is just jogging - no intervals, just jogging. W1D1 it had me do 2 minutes of jogging. I'm at the end of week 3, and I'm now up to 9…

C25K question
I attempted the week 5 day 3 20 minute run today (does anyone know why this is thrown in here) and was not so successful. I ram quite a bit of it but didn't t make it through the whole 20 minutes without some walking. Do I need to keep doing this until I am successful before moving on or should I go on to week 6?
