  • I liked fitnotes until I lost my data but it looks like they added data backup to the last release so if I can get my old phone's data to the new one I'll switch back. Using Strong now. Both are fairly simple to use but fitnotes has more data analysis (I'm a dork) for free. I also love spreadsheets so that's a tempting…
  • Be proud you kept it to one muffin! I can't really give advice as I struggle to resist and once I give in there can be trouble. I just wanted to point out you held up pretty well for a three hour meeting. Maybe some friendly competition for eating well would help the office culture and you.
  • I have 6 friends on here and only one is male (and he seems to be inactive on here), so counting me in my useless sample size, I'd say 28% male. I do think MFP is more socially comfortable than say weight watchers.
  • I'm just getting back to trying to get fit, but I've had good success in the past drinking 6 oz regular coke. I have a little Coke glass and treat half liters like 2 liters. No idea if it's true (I sense the skepticism or defensiveness) but I've heard some of the additives used for diet drinks mess with your hormone…

  • I wanted to have several different kinds of chicken but to simplify entry I eyeballed a cup at a time and called it all sesame chicken. I skipped the sweet and sour chicken and skipped the rice. Just ordering water is a huge help for me.
  • I haven't had time to ramp up activity, but I'm having success just cutting calories and not eating out as much. That said, I do obsess about food and its only been a week, so maybe I should take that advice...
  • I've been doing at least 4 tris a year since 2007 and I still have a gut. It works great for knocking some weight off, but the last inch or 2 is going to take some nutrition discipline that I so far lack. I try to take some time off tri training over the winter while keeping in shape with other activities. A few months of…
  • Stick with it. You'll make some quick progress starting out. Shift down to easier gears so you are spinning the pedals a little quicker without applying a lot of force. It's evil, but going back down a hill does not counter act going up it. The time you spend going up is much longer than the time going down. So more of you…
  • I'd suggest keeping up the gains you make by doing it at least twice a week. So if you did a 30 day squat challenge you could continue to do squats 2 days a week to maintain or 3 or 4 to keep progressing in weight or reps. This leaves you time to add other exercises and also avoids burning out mentally or physically on one…
  • Sports bra seems perfectly reasonable to me. You should respect your husband's feelings enough to hear him out, but then he should respect your decision.
  • My wife occasionally catches me rubber necking only to discover I'm checking out a nice bike. ...For some reson she still punches me (playfully). It does come in handy when there is an attractive lady on a bike... ;)
  • There are worse things in the world than having three kids. But if you're sure, snip-snip is an option. Even as a man I think it makes more sense for us to do it unless you are having a c-section (apparently they can do it then). I had a vasectomy and it wasn't horribly painful, but it did take awhile to fully heal so I…
  • You have a brave husband. I refuse to answer questions like that for my wife because I couldn't live with being wrong. That said, I do think we need to challenge our doctors recommendations sometimes. Just the little bit of push back may give an indication of the seriousness of the feeling. I can think of about 5 ER visits…
  • Don't make yourself crazy trying to lose a bunch of weight before the wedding. That would just add even more stress. Try to get some small victories started. Building a string of small victories can give you confidence you're moving forward. Track your food daily, be honest (don't under estimate to try to allow yourself…
  • What do you like to do? Are you fit in a away that allows you to do those things? How do you feel about your body? You'd be better off if you never saw this guy with the negative comments again, especially if his opinion has such an effect on you.
  • Try it again with your hands farther apart.
  • Your wrist will get stronger, too. Is it possible your hands are too far down your body forcing your wrist to bend further? Mine hurt, but aren't killing me.
  • I would talk about any advice you get here with your doctor. The general rule seems to be if you did it before you were pregnant, you can do it while pregnant until your body tells you you can't. So don't take up running if you don't already, but continue (maybe easier) if you do already run. I also remember the doctor…
  • What, are we on some kind of health website? ...Oh yeah, we are. Well, I eat bacon and provolone with my eggs, but I do put it on a whole wheat bagel thin.
  • The pictures of Jamie Eason are a great example of how someone may want to tweak there appearance and still be (maybe more) healthy. It seems you need to put a little weight back on to achieve your goal. Just be careful, your genetics could mean all the fat will come on in one place (for me it's my gut) and not others and…
  • You are hot in that bikini, where it to the beach!
  • You list your goal as being healthy. Healthy includes some muscle. This sounds like a body image issue to me. Now if you're getting too much muscle definition, your body fat % could be getting to a level some on here would kill for, but making sure you were 18-22% would be considered healthy. For that you could just eat a…
  • That really depends on the type of person you are. I've never had much success with weights at home. I either don't have the right equipment or I don't have room to move around it. And I find it very hard to focus on my workout. Right now I'm waiting for my new gym to open so I'm just doing body weight stuff, but's only 10…
  • No, it doesn't. If anything about fb matters to an employer its how potential clients may view you if they google your name. So the only check should be, are you using appropriate privacy settings? I keep hoping that as more and more of us put it all out there that people will be less judgemental. We friended our son's…
  • I love how many women are picking their female choices too. It's a really tough call. Probably Jessica Alba or Scarlett Johanson, but I think Amanda Seyfried is really cute. Maybe she'd be the one I'd want to hang around.
  • In the example someone posted I prefer the top picture. I'll offer an alternative explaination. Maybe they felt like this celebrities body was making you feel bad about yourself and they worry about your self esteem if you don't make your goal. So, they bash women with that kind of body to try to make you feel better and…
  • Using the BMR calculator under the tools tab here, I get 1709. This is the estimated calories I would need lying in bed all day. I list myself as sedentary because I sit at a desk 8 hours a day and list my goal as losing 0.5lbs/week. My MFP goal is 1880. Presumeably that means my estimated calorie usuage including normal…
  • Maybe it depends on the person. When I walk, I'm no where near the intensity I bike at. For me, my calorie burn would be walk<swim<bike<run, but having done a stress test where they kept upping the incline and I walked at a hard pace, I can see that walking can be very high intensity.
  • I think they do, but they have to be the right shoe for you. The key is to go to a store that specializes in running shoes. You may want to check with local runners to see what stores in your area have a good reputation. They'll probably watch you walk barefoot to determine how much support you need. Then they should tell…
  • So it can peek out the top of a bikini.
