  • I was doing this a few years ago. I did the elimination diet then introduced each kind of FODMAP for a week to see what the effect would be. All of them except soy gave me unhappy tummy. :( Since I'm not going to eliminate all of those foods forever, I just try to keep them to a minimum. I've just accepted that I can't…
  • I'm a little under 5' 2". My goal weight is 115. I've been down as low as 109, but I didn't think I looked very good. I'd say my maintenance range would be 114-118.
  • Do you have a weighted hula hoop or just one of the ones made for kids? I was never able to keep one up either, but now I have a weighted hoop that's also wider than a kid's hoop. The weight and larger diameter make it easier to keep up, but you work harder because the hoop is weighted.
  • I used to need a ton of sugar and milk to drink coffee. Now I drink it with a half cup of almond/soy milk and a half teaspoon of sugar. I have a sensitive stomach so I can't really drink it black. I also have to make sure to get a medium or dark roast, as those are less acidic. I would like to eliminate the sugar but half…

  • I agree with marycatherine. Sardines are much more nutritious than whey protein, though they may be high in sodium. I think whey protein is a convenient way to add a protein boost to smoothies, because many people just don't want to eat a tin of sardines. ;) However, if you like the sardines, go for it.
  • Yeah, I live near Boston (DD central) and they will throw sugar and cream into your coffee unless you are VERY clear that you don't want it. 99% of people just get it "regulah". This is why I don't go to Dunkin Donuts. The coffee I make at home tastes way better and I control what goes into it. Failing that, I get a black…
  • I switched to a Klean Kanteen stainless steel water bottle. The plastic ones always seemed to taste funny. I'm an environmental scientist, and through my work I've been learning more about how much plastics leach into our food and water. Regardless of what bottle you use, I do think it needs to be washed with soap and hot…
  • I'm child-free, 36, and happily married. I used to think I wanted children but once it became a real prospect, I panicked and couldn't get back on the pill fast enough. I have one kitty and am fostering a pregnant cat for a local rescue. I like to think I do have maternal urges, just towards kittens rather than babies.…
  • I'm one of those people who enjoys exercising while I'm doing it, but the hard part is getting started. Also because I have plantar fasciitis I'm restricted in what I can do - no long walks, running, or stairs. So I have to get my exercise in formal workouts instead of walking miles a day like I used to. So I've made it a…
  • I say, eat the 250 extra calories and see if you are losing weight. If not, you may have to re-evaluate and stop eating back the exercise calories or only eat some back. Personally, exercise makes me want to eat more, but not as much as MFP seems to think. On those days I eat more of healthy food. I may get a soup and…
  • The problem is, after a couple of days I can't stand the thought of eating it again. And so I have a batch of oatmeal going bad in the fridge from last week. :embarassed: Yeah, nobody's forcing me to eat it, but I hear so often about it being a great breakfast food that I'm persuaded to try it again. Maybe I need to try…
  • I like oatmeal if it has tons of cream and sweetener added. Otherwise, blech. I only cook steel cut now and it's a bit better tasting but it takes a long time so I have to cook up a big batch and reheat it through the week. Also, what is this thing about it keeping you full??!! The toppings alone would keep me more full…
  • I work at a government agency in a downtown area. Thankfully the gov't is not supposed to buy food so that cuts down on free lunches. There was a buy-out and lots of people are retiring, so that means lots of retirement parties. At the last one I managed to resist the cake and pastries and only eat some strawberries and…
  • Early on in college my older sister and I got a free pass to try out Bally's. I got on a treadmill and started walking. This was my first time ever on a treadmill (or even a gym) and I was just getting used to it. Some guy got on a treadmill next to me and started chatting me up. Since I couldn't walk and talk at the same…
  • Butter tastes better, so I need less of it. I mix a half cup of butter with a half cup of olive oil to make homemade "margarine" that is spreadable right out of the fridge - that's yummy too.
  • I'm no expert, but I think you'd get better results if you could reduce or cut out the sweets. A 377 calorie pastry, a coke, jam, Nutrigrain bars, etc. I for one would be ravenous if I only ate a Nutrigrain bar for breakfast! Maybe try to find something with more protein. Microwave a couple of eggs, maybe with some veggies…
  • All the tips for curing PF are great, but I think what the OP was asking was "how do you exercise and burn calories while suffering from PF". I've had PF for about a year. I am beyond tired of it. I went to a podiatrist and he told me I could do the following for exercise: -spin classes but stay in the saddle. That's…
  • It is a bother to log my food. I cook a lot of my own meals at home. I always vary my recipes based on what I have on hand, so I need to edit recipes and yield amounts every time I make something. I also make my own soy milk, bread, and yogurt (crazy I know, but I enjoy it) and there's no good way to know the exact…
  • I'd say listen to your body. I love exercising too (well, after I start it, getting started can be hard!), but my body lets me know if I've been overdoing it. A hard strength training session on Sunday followed by a 40 min swim plus 20 minutes walking each way to the pool on Monday left me exhausted and sore on Tuesday. So…
  • These are what I make: link: http://www.food.com/recipe/peanut-butter-protein-bars-79090 Peanut Butter Protein Bars Yield: 16 bars 1/2 cup skim milk 1 cup natural-style peanut butter or 1 cup low-fat peanut butter 1 tablespoon honey 1 1/4-1 1/2 cups of whey protein powder (I use vanilla, but I'm sure chocolate would work…
  • Ha! So true. That's part of the reason I do the military press. I want to be able to lift my suitcase above my head to put it in the overhead compartment. Mostly though, it's packing light. On my last couple of flights, the bag was light enough that I could get it up to the overhead without much problem. :)
  • I sometimes gloat to tall people how easy it is to fly when you're short. I used to wonder why I never have a problem with leg room when flying - maybe it's other airlines that are cramped? Then I realized that I'm so short almost any leg room is enough for me. ;-) Ha Ha  I also saw on another forum, a shirt that…
  • My exercises of choice lately are split squats and bulgarian split squats. They are a way to work all those little stabilizing muscles that keep you upright, they work the legs separately, and ...they require less weight to get a workout. (i.e. no hoisting a barbell over my head at home - I just need dumbbells).
  • Funny thing about corn is that, as we've bred it to be sweeter and lighter in color, it's lost nutrients and gained sugar. (some varieties are 40% sugar now!) Yellow corn, or even better yet, multicolored "Indian corn" is far more nutritious. NY times quotes: Corn with deep yellow kernels, including the yellow corn…
  • You should probably get a second opinion. There has to be something you can do short of surgery to help your shoulders. Here's my 2 cents...I had bicep tendonitis from swimming too much. The pain was in the front of the shoulder. My PT had me doing rotator cuff exercises, YTI, and planks (google them). Lots of emphasis on…
  • Hi, I'm 5'2", feel free to add me! Discussion topic: where is your favorite place to get petite clothes? I've noticed that only the most expensive places carry petites, like Ann Taylor, Talbots, Banana Republic. I recently bought some jeans at Lucky that were branded as petite but I still have to roll them up.:grumble:
  • I'm on Celexa right now and it seems to be working pretty well. I didn't notice any weight gain side effects. I did notice that I wasn't in the "mood" as much and it was much more difficult for me to get, ummm, satisfaction. :blushing: But those side effects went away after I was taking it a couple of months.

  • The OP said oats give her acid reflux, which is actually true for me as well. Also, oatmeal is almost worse for my hunger than cereal. I'm ravenous 2 hours later. So everyone's different! I also can't do yogurt - not enough protein unless it's greek yogurt. And I seem to be allergic to greek yogurt - it gives me a sore,…
  • Let's see if I can remember.... bananas (usually clementines but we have some leftover from last week) mango pineapple tomatoes cherry tomatoes red pepper yellow pepper parsley mustard greens - 2 bunches spring mix salad greens green beans barramundi filets cereal for hubby (honey bunches of oats - wf brand) Clif mojo bars…
  • My swim buddy has cancelled probably 4 of the last 6 weeks (we swim once a week). Sometimes it's legit (she has health problems that flare up) but sometimes I don't confirm quickly enough and she makes other plans*. The problem is, I can't get into the pool without her b/c she's the member and I'm her free guest. Really,…
