  • Fantastic, and inspirational! Doesn't look like you need to lose anymore...just like you said, maintain and improve.
  • I am so sorry that you are having a hard time. It is incredible how terrible that people can make each other feel, and I'm sorry that you have people in your life that feel they have the right to do that to you. Just so you know, I'm incredibly impressed and proud of all you've done since you got here. You look great, you…
  • I think that's an excellent idea. You don't want to stress about it. You don't want to feel you are being deprived. But you do want to maintain some discipline in watching what you eat. Upping your calorie intake for a while isn't a bad thing anyway, and certainly makes a good approach to holidays.
  • One of the things I really like about this site is that it gets me thinking about food substitutions, lower amounts of snacking and getting into habits of good choices. I've been "off" my diet a few times since starting, and while I don't keep losing, I don't really gain it back, either. And I find getting back on the diet…
  • If you're going to be doing a lot of hiking and outdoor fun, I'd also ditch the DVD. I was camping recently, and just my for-fun 9 mile hikes around the lake were causing me to burn 1500 calories per day (more by the HRM, which I did bring along and used the first time, to get a baseline.) Once I knew that, I stopped…
  • I'm so not an expert on this, but will try. Your picture shows B vitamins with a lot of healthy food, that's very good. B complex vitamins are fairly easy to come by in food, so if you eat the right things, you won't have issues even without supplements. Also, being water soluable, any excess will flush through if your…
  • I don't know that product, but agree with the first responses. If there are really solutions that work, everybody would do them. The last FDA certified magic pill unfortunately caused massive liver and other issues and had to be pulled. It provided a statistically significant weight loss over normal methods alone. Pills…
  • Welcome, and congratulations on your decision to become healtier. I find that this site and associated tool and most important the people here are invaluable to becoming healthier. The connected phone app and database of foods is awesome--it makes it really easy to really enter everything you eat...and if you keep up on…
  • First off, welcome and good luck. I have found this to be a great site, with lots of encouraging people and good advice. My one comment - water is good on multiple levels. It keeps you hydrated, helps flush your body, helps keep hunger away, and sometimes people eat because they are actually thirsty. That said...the "8…
  • Welcome, and good luck. You'll find the people here encouraging and real.

  • Great story--congratulations!
  • I've only had them a few times, and normally just suffer, but I found a great site with some consistent suggestions: http://www.myhomeremedies.com/static/chigger-bites.html Key suggestions were showers as hot as you could stand, plus salt water, Listerine, etc. So basically, force lots of blood to the surface, and put…
  • If you're nursing keep it up---that burns 500 calories per day. Doesn't help with muscle tone, but the calories fly off.

  • Have you tried the high-cocoa chocolates? Not low calorie, and high in fat...but very low sugar, and if you like it it doesn't take much to feel you've had a treat. (Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate has something like 0.75g/piece...and about 55-60 calories per piece.)

  • Great concept. I'm in.
  • I agree with the comments about sodium, fat calories, and processed foods. Also look into breaking the same food into more meals, trying to eat every couple of hours. The best comments though were the ones that said not to give up...little progress is much better than none.
  • Potatoes are starches, so simple in that sense. Livestrong had some good information about them and their uses.
  • Personally, using this site is the most effective I've ever been on a diet--nearly six weeks in and I haven't had a "gain" day once. As I use the MFP site and phone app, I have found the following patterns begin to emerge: - I think about what I'm going to eat, and the fact that I'll have to work out harder to get my…

  • I just got back from a 67 minute bike ride (mountain bike on dirt/gravel with hills) MFP came back with 890 calories. Other sites came back with 837. So for this data point, anyway, it's a bit high, but not that high.
  • Why stay away from wine? Still 100 calories for a 4 oz glass, and lots of good things in it.
  • Good for you! I find scales to be a huge demotivator to my efforts to lose weight, so I'm not using them. I weighed myself at the beginning, once at 3 weeks to make sure things were progressing, and will do it again at 8. Other than that, I'm trusting the math.
  • There are often multiple entries for the same item, sometimes with subtle differences or expectations (grilled vs fried chicken, with or without salad dressing and crutons, etc.) If the description isn't clear, or I don't believe it...I find the company websites or food packaging will often have the correct information--or…
  • Probably. The reasons I get very tired are: My body/muscles/etc aren't used to so much exercise My body has too few calories My blood sugar could be low from over exercising (this usually includes shaking/weakness) I don't give myself a day to recover occasionally These are all benign, but unpleasant.
  • It looks like your net calories is consistently at or below below 1000...that could be triggering a "slowdown" in your body.
  • Salt is important to regulating yeast growth in dough, but I've found that making my own and using potassium chloride (salt substitute) works very well. Salt substitute is vile on food, but works well in bread.
  • Welcome! I've been here for 3 weeks myself, and am very happy with this site, and my results in using it. The community is very supportive, and there are a lot of great tips that you can find, and passionate people willing to answer any questions you have.
  • Conflicting answers: http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/03/08/us-wine-weight-idUSTRE62759S20100308 http://www.shapefit.com/alcohol-calories.html Personally, I guess the question is if the 4oz glass of red wine is going to slow your metabolism overall, or cause other side effects (cravings, etc. from the second article.)…
  • I'm currently on my most successful diet...and it's not a named diet of any sort. I avoid the situations that cause me to want to binge/nervous/stress/boredom eat. I avoid the foods that I know I can't handle in moderation. I eat four meals, including two light breakfasts, and something every two hours. I write down…
