My Story.
I started a year ago this month. My progress was very slow. I envied all the posts of folks who had lost tremendous amounts of weight in a short period of time. A year later I am about 15+ lbs down, but here is what matters; my blood work has changed for the better, I am learning to watch calories with more scrutiny and…

My Fitness Pal took away my ability to customize without paying for an upgrade
Now they want me on 200 carbs and 1200 calories. WHAAA? They switched out my custom settings. Anyone know what is going on?

Weighed after 6 months
I started lc/hf almost 6 months ago. I refused to weigh and torture myself. Years of up and down and up again. After a number of people in the last 2 days have remarked about how much weight I had lost, I decided to get on the scale. That was my marker, my promise to myself that I made 6 months ago; to wait until it was…

Lycra: the journey
I exercise at a gym. The gym belongs to an Ivy League school. I love being around the young people; their fashions, hairstyles, flirting. Early in my journey, I told myself I would like to be able to wear my lycra tights without shorts, or a skirt, or anything covering my lower body. I just wanted to wear a tee shirt over…

Progress Check In
I began this journey 6.5 months ago. I stuck with it because it seemed reasonable, and nothing else had worked for any length of time. Starving was not an option. I have not been on a scale. I decided that it was simply too debilitating to follow a scale up , then down, then up again. I looked for other signs, clothes,…

Sleep
Is there any connection between ketosis, burning fat for energy, and sleep disruption? Is it possible the metabolism has increased and causes insomnia due to an over activity? Having trouble sleeping. Not exhausted during the day but really not sleeping more than 3 hours at a stretch.

Strawberry cream cheese pie
no,no no. I am not saying you can induldge. Instead, try this. A plump red strawberry with a slather of cream cheese . Same taste. Minus the sugar, minus the crust but totally satisfying.

Update of my progress; the long haul
I started Jan. 15. Like others, I struggled as I heard stories of 40lb losses in a matter of months. It simply wasn't going to happen that way for me. I am also doing this scale-less because of the disappointment I didn't want to face. The changes were so minimal, so slow, so not what I was expecting. I went were the brave…

Dogs
I am thinking that my dogs are benefiting from my lc/hf lifestyle. I clean my frying pans with a bit of water heated over the stove and add the bits and juices to my dog's breakfast. I buy good dry food but even then am unsure of how healthy all those carbs are for our 4 legged friends. Makes clean up much easier.

Strawberrys; the new vegetable.
There were sitting there , tired from their long trip from Mexico. So red, so remembering how much I love the little darlings. I slice only 3 or 5 but add heavy cream, or sour cream, or cream cheese. I am using the carbs as I would a veggie carb. Thanks to Goat, I have almost eliminated veggies; oh an occasional salad here…

Update
I started January 15th. Two weeks ago, I stepped on the scale and had lost only 5 lbs. It was devastating as anyone who is experiencing these results rather than the 40 lbs in 3 month results, understands. It was tempting to stop. With the help of this site I decided my loss is simply unique, as is everyones. Impossible…

A Come to Jesus Meeting
I have been doing a lot of soul searching though out this journey. I realize that a pattern I have losing weight is to somewhere along the line, sabotage the effort. I believe that I have become institutionalized by being overweight. I have learned to be comfortable in this skin and I suspect it is often worn as armor…

Geronimo
Ok Goat, this is for you. I am just off 8 days of GI flu. I was lucky to get a couple hard boiled eggs into me on any given day only to find them in exodus shortly after. Figuring that I surely lost 20 lbs during the tempest, I had the courage to get on the scale. 5 lbs down, 194, from my starting weight, yes 199lbs which…

Are you positive this diet works? I am simply going nowhere
I have been on <20 grams of carbs for 6 weeks. I have tracked calories recognizing there is error but am always under 2000. I do drink wine. I am and have been in Ketosis almost the entire time. I feel great; energy high, brain unfogged I am 67. 5'7" and weigh between 195 and 200. I am large boned and exercise over the…

Fat Fast
I ordered Dana Carpender's book Fat Fast. Interesting for sure. $7. on Amazon. She also has another cook book that looks interesting. I have modified the FF slightly because I exercise quite a bit so I added a few more calories while still keeping the kcal number below what I am assigned to under the normal journey. I am…

Two words: Spare Ribs
Oh boy. Disclaimer: No bbq sause, just a dry salt/pepper rub . and 400 degrees of heat. The previous rules that put it in the NO EAT zone, just went out the window. The fat is so unbelievable and Goat? I got it. More fat, moderate the protein. Philly cream cheese with it's 5 to 1 fat to protein ratio is my new best friend.…

Need more fat? Not the kind on your thighs.
I was having trouble getting enough fat and the days that it was higher, I seemed to do better. I remembered this little dip I use to shy away from: Heat cream cheese with a little heavy cream and chop up some chipped beef. Remember chipped beef on toast? Not a lot, but enough to give it a salty, lovely smooth dip for…

Newly Discovered Peace
I awoke hungry. I knew yesterday I didn't eat enough. I wasn't hungry. Plain and simple. I made coffee, steamed heavy cream and put 4 slices of bacon in the pan before starting the morning. It is frigid cold here. Maybe I will Xcountry ski. I thought about this: friends struggling with low calorie diets, constantly…

Gone to the Dogs
Small tip. I cook a lot in my fry pans. I don't put the grease down the drain. It is wretched for a septic system. I found if I add a bit of water and stir up any of the bits, I can add to my dog's dry food. Usually it is hamburg, chicken or bacon remains and they love it. A little fat in their diet is good for dry coats…

Keep the faith all ye scale haters.. my story
4 weeks ago, I started and with the support and great information at this site I decided to really do it right this time; more fat, less calories(avoid the free for all) exercise. 2 weeks ago I was the whining about the scale that not only drop but went up! Boy, nothing ruins motivation than no feedback. Twice now in the…

Caution Required
Ok, so I stopped scale watching, tightened my carb restriction, upped the fat a bit and within the last couple of days seem to have gone deeper into ketosis but here it is. My clothes feel different. I am comfortable in a sweater I wouldn't wear a year ago. My jeans, oh sure they are stretchy denim, but they are slipping a…

HELP. Scale god unleased
Ok. I know, I know, I know, I know. Don't rely on the scale but I want to so believe this is the right way to eat and yet , here I am 2 weeks into it, definitely in ketosis , drinking water, beginning to tighten up the cals, exercising and up 2 lbs from starting point. I simply am so discouraged. Yes I feel better, Yes, I…

Wine (Whine??)
Will folks weigh in (sorry) about drinking wine on a carb restricted path?

Low Carbs
My years of struggle have finally brought me back to a reduced carb diet. Not only do I feel better; aches and pains gone, energy increased and I actually lose weight without starving. BUT, it has to be done right; lots of vegetables, moderate your fat and protein. I have set up my caloric limits, fats, protein and carbs…

Alzheimers and low carbs
I have been wondering if there are an studies that involve the onset of Alzheimers with diet; specifically a high carb/sugar diet prevalent in our culture. Certainly one of the benefits of Low Carb is a renewed mental sharpness. The effects of sugar on plaque. Don't know. Just wondering about a correlation.
