What do women wear lifting?
Maybe this is a weird question, but what do other women wear lifting? I'm a minimalist, so I don't like having a whole LOT of clothes. However, after having a kid & my body/style changing, I'm looking at getting rid of several leggings & am thinking about what to replace them with. I'd like to be stylish, so I try to be…

Friends who like aerial, yoga or lifting?
Hey! I would love to find some friends who like aerial silks (or really any circus arts) practicing yoga or lifting. I'm in the process of moving to Maryland & am planning on getting serious with my training once we arrive. Would love some friends who share my interests! (Or even if you don't, supportive friends are always…

Shenandoah NP Trails
Hello. I live in Southern Maryland & would like to visit Shenandoah National Park while we're on this end of the country. I see that the park is long & skinny, so thinking about splitting the trip into 2 and doing north & south on different weekends. Any trails or sights that you consider must-see? Looking for day hikes,…

Period or pregnancy hunger
I got off of my birth control, Implanon, about 4 1/2 weeks ago. I haven't had a period in years & have been on BC for almost a decade, so it's been forever since I felt the full wrath of my hormones. Took a pregnancy test last Thursday that was negative & plan to test again on Friday. Until then, I wanted to hear the…

Proud I met my mini goal
I'm catching myself already getting caught up in the rush of trying to reach my NEXT goal, so I wanted to take a moment to celebrate what I've accomplished so far! I'm 5'6" & 29 years old. Started at 165lbs at the beginning of the year with a gaol weight of 140. I had the mini goal of reaching 150lbs by the time I left for…

Summer 2016
Anyone running SC this summer? I just finished the beginner program (my first lifting program ever) and feeling pretty proud of myself. Especially because I'm dealing with an old shoulder injury that flared up. Now I'm heading on vacation for almost 2 weeks. When I get back I'm going to run the lower body only program with…

Package & nutrition lables discrepancy
Logging question: bought ice cream & the front of the package says 170 cals per 4oz serving. Nutrition label says 170 cals per 69 grams. Thing is, according to my food scale 69g is almost 2.5oz, not 4! So.... wtf?! I logged it according to the 69g. But why is this SO off?

Lifting, small injuries & nutrition?
Tl;dr I keep getting small injuries while lifting. How can I avoid this? Should I be adjusting my calories and/or macros? Or do I just need to slow my training? More info: I'm new to lifting. Just finished week 9 of Strong Curves beginner workout. I had to take a 3-4 week break for moving across the country. I repeated…

Moving to Maryland!
My husband and I are in the process of moving from So Cal to Marland! I would love to find some supportive "friends" in the area. Anyone from that end of the country?

Eep! 3 weeks of moving, family & wedding
So in the next three weeks my husband and I will be moving ourselves from So Cal to Maryland. We move a lot, and moving always throws my eating & activity habits out the window! (Forget abt losing weight, I just want to maintain!) During this process we eat out a LOT and some of our family really could not care less about…

Zealous Zumba
Mostly, I enjoy Zumba because desperate flailing isn’t limited to only forward and backward actions like when running, biking, or ellipticalling. Limbs can flail wild and unrestrained in any direction, and if I like one thing, it’s wildly flailing limbs. Not to mention the booty and boobie shaking. A proper Zumba class…

Dreadmills, Spandex Shorts, and Group Treadmill Dancing
Remember that post where I pretended to be am a badass runner? Well, after that amazingly endorphin-filled 5k, I failed to sign up for another, and my running routine diminished. I, of course, feel completely relaxed disappointed in myself. About the time I planned to hit the pavement again, the temperature plummeted and…

Touch Your Toes
Flexibility training represents something else to avoid at the gym--I mean--an important and often neglected aspect of fitness. Many people step off the elliptical or lay down their weights and consider their workout over, missing the awesome benefits of stretching: - Lowered risk of injury - Decreased stress - Improved…

Fall of the Great Food Pyramid
Remember the Food Guide Pyramid? The U.S. Department of Agriculture developed it in 1992, for you nerds--I mean--charming readers who enjoy these things. Eat more of food groups towards the bottom (grains, fruits, veggies) and fewer of the food groups near the top (fats & oils). So easy to understand. Why mess with a good…

National Cry Yourself to Sleep Day
Special K® deemed January 2nd “National Weigh-in Day.” A day when people across the United States step on their scales and weep over the number displayed. Really, Special K®? This seems like a horrible idea. Click to read more: http://runswithblisters.wordpress.com/2012/01/02/national-cry-yourself-to-sleep-day/ Excerpt…

Last 10 Pounds
Hola! I've been on MFP for about 4 months & lost my first 10lbs pretty easily in the first 2 months. I've been "maintaining" for the last two months, and need to get back at it!! I only have 10 more pounds to go, but they say the last 5-10 are the hardest :S Would love encouraging friends with similar goals (or not...)…

Runners: frequency of speed workouts?
I’m working on a better 5k time. I run 3 times per week. How often should I be doing sprints, tempos, long runs, hills etc? Seems like a lot of different run workouts to fit in… I was thinking about a weekly schedule of: #1- long run (6miles), #2- sprints/intervals, #3- 5k and pushing my pace. Does this sound like a good…

Knee soreness after lifting
I just started a new lifting routine this morning & am noticing some soreness in my knees as the day goes on. The new routine includes squats, deadlifts, RDL, Bulgarian squats, sumo squats & lunges. None of them with much weight, as I'm still working on developing good form. Around 50 lbs on all but lunges & Bulgarian…

Help Me Name my Fitness Blog?!
I realize having a fitness/nutrition/health blog isn't exactly an original concept. I graduated with my bachelors in Creative Writing a few years ago, and am a little sick of not using my degree at all. I’m starting my blog to MAKE me write and keep me accountable. Hopefully it will give me confidence/creative momentum to…

Post workout: protien or recovery drink?
I know they are different. From my light research, I have found that protien drinks are... mostly protien (whoah!!) and recovery drinks have a radio of 4:1 carbs to protien (I would probably be using chocolate milk) to help "heal" muscles faster. Which do I want to take post workout? And why? I lift 2-3 days per week & at…

Is anyone else NOT freaking out abt Tday?
I'm seriously not worried at all. I'll eat whatever I want and love it. Probably won't even log that day. And I will be completely fine. Am I alone here?

Jingle Bell 5k ?s
So I signed up for this race and was wondering if anyone had ever done it in KC before. I'm just not sure what to wear, as the site says the Lenexa run will be underground, making it about 65 degrees or something. But it's in December, so it's going to be COLD outside. Do I want to dress for the cold or the heat? I don't…

Running in the Rain
I am not a runner. I have always pretty much hated running. It hurt my lungs, hurt my heart, hurt my legs, arms and shoulders. Well, this morning I completed week 6, day 2 of the Couch to 5k program. That's two 10 minutes runs at at least 6mph with a 5 minute walk in between at 4mph. It's only 45 degrees outside, and it's…

10lbs shows on my FACE!!
So yesterday I put two photos of my face next to each other. (My current profile pic) One of me at my start weight of 150 & the other of me at my current weight of 140. I can't believe what a huge difference those 10lbs make! Just in my face! I seriously can't stop looking at the photos, haha! I haven't gotten a chance to…
