Question about carbs vs. calorie count in foods
Hi everyone! Quick question: how come certain foods/drinks (ie. low calorie vitamin waters) have a calorie count of say 15cal per serving, but then list 16g carbs? How is that possible? I thought 1g carb = 4cal. Is the body actually able to use the carbs? I was just wondering because I try to keep my carb count…

Avocado Shake!
This might sound a little weird, but a Thai place near my work makes them and they're amazing! The only problem is the ton of condensed milk they pour into them, (not to mention the price, they sure add up fast) so I set out to make my own at home. If you like avocado you should seriously give this a try, I know it might…

Clothing alterations
Hi there! I have a pair of jeans that I'm absolutely in love with! I got them as a gift, and I've never seen a wash or cut that I like nearly as much, but they're a 30 inch waist, and I wear a 28. I don't want to get them altered until I'm done losing, and I don't think I'll lose too much more off my hips, but I'm hoping…

Exercise (for the ladies)
So I started taking pole dance lessons a few weeks ago, (chair dance, belly dance and hip hop as well, all at the same studio) but I just wanted to say that A) while I'm not sure how great of a calorie burner it is, it's a great work out. I've noticed a HUGE difference in my over all definition, arms and abs especially,…

Nothing like a good competition..
So I've been pretty off track lately. Turns out so has my best friend, and last night, he made me an offer I couldn't really refuse. Our exams are over in 2 weeks, April 20th, and the challenge is to see who can lose the most by then. I was a little nervous at first, just because I was afraid this would jeopardize our…

Denaturing Protein
Hey everyone! This is a bit more of a biochemistry question than a health question, persay, but I think the answer could affect a lot of us MFP'ers, and I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here, so I'm hoping someone can help out. I've read a LOT of different recipes for homemade protein bars, which usually…

Need an intense workout that doesn't require putting weight
I know that's asking for a lot, but I fear I may have done something serious to it. I stayed off it for a few days then it felt better, so I took a short, light jog (as oppose to my usual p90x plyo) and it started hurting way worse then before, so I'm going to see a doctor in a few days. However, I'm getting awfully moody…

Nutrition Question for those with bodyfat goals in the athle
I was just curious about how your diet changed, if at all, once you got close to 20% BF? I'm at about 26% right now, but I'm very fit, averaging about 10h of cardio (including tae kwon do, parkour, and some pretty intense HIIT sessions at the gym) I dome some strength training, mainly using the p90x dvds, but am not…

How much volume does an ounce of dry pasta have?
I buy spelt rigate in bulk, because its super cheap =) Unfortunately, I don't have a scale, and can't use the old divide the package trick like usual, so I was hoping someone with a scale could kindly weigh out 2oz of penne or rigate or some other medium sized tube/spiral noodle and tell me how much it is in cups? I would…

How many calroies in THIS peanut butter?
So I bought the Kraft natural peanut butter for a change, just to try something new. I've been stirring in the oil that accumulates on top every time I use it, except this morning I went to use some and there was no oil. I just found out my roommate used it and got grossed out by the oil, so she drained it all off LOL. Do…

Skin 911
I know this isn't weight loss related, but I stumbled on this article about a month ago and now pass it on to you, tried and true, it's pure gold if you have problematic skin or are prone to TOM breakouts like I am. Enjoy =) Acne There's nothing like a pimple to ruin a look. And models learn at a very early age how to deal…

Sexy for Valentine's (wink wink)
Sooo.. a roomate and I were pilfering through LaSenza today, and as always, the underwear was ADORABLE, and it looked AMAZING on all of the models in the posters, and as badly as I wanted it, I knew I just feel bad about spending the money, because I don't need more regular underwear, and I kind of think of lingerie as…

Toned thighs at last! - Thank you Jillian!
So, I'm almost done the 30 Day Shred- I finally stuck it out this time- but I only did 7 days of each phase, I just get too bored and quit otherwise. My stomach is pretty much flat, I've lost a couple inches off my waist, about 4lbs overall- and, the best part - my trouble area, especially my thighs, have toned up and…

Overeating.. but still losing too fast?
I don't understand, I probably shouldn't comlpain, but I'm getting a little scared. My metabolism has always been pretty standard, maybe a tad on the quick side. Then I spent about two years gorging myself, and ballooned up to about 180lbs. I got back down to 160lbs fairly healthily, (and effortlessly lol, I just…

Recovering Heart Rate?
I've been told that you heart rate recovery is the best way to gauge your cardiovascular fitness. So mine was 152 at the end of my workout, and then down to 84 a minute later. Is that good or average or bad? I tried to find some info online, but I'm still a little lost, so any info would be aweeesome! :flowerforyou:

My Personal 21 Day Chellenge!
So' Ive been pretty horrendous lately, (I just started working at a chocolate factory, and your allowed to eat all the stuff you want + there's free latte/capp/hot choc machines in the break room) I've only gained about a pound, but that's still a pound in the wrong direction, and I want to trim down a bit for when I go…

Napping?
Just curious, I tend to nap after church for 2-3 hours, almost every Sunday. I don't know what it is, but sitting still for so long wears me out. So does super long bike rides lol, so I guess its fair to say I nap like a 2 year old. How will that affect my BMR?

Macro Pairing For the "Fat Chick with Muscle"
So I just read this article, basically outlining a basic macro diet plan, based on body type. Classing myself as the fat chick with muscle ( basically solid girl with good muscle, underneath roughly 30% body fat) and it says people with this body type do best on a low carb diet. ie carbs at breakfast, and after workouts,…

Is it possible for the scale to be wrong..
in your favour? I've been eating well over my 1200 a day quite frequently, sometimes couting in exercise, sometimes not. If I go 100-200cal over 1200, I don't really worry too much, because thats still a 1200cal deficiency. So anyways, I weighed myself yesterday morning, and the scale said I was down to 150.8, and I'm…

The Infamous Exercise Calories..
Okay, so, I have read that brilliant article posted by someone who's name i can't remember ( sorry! :blushing: ) but it was brilliant and I completely agree. Mainly because I feel like crap if I DON'T eat after exercising. Acid reflux and vomitting and all that fun stuff. So here's my issue. I workout usually at…

My first "proper" breakfast.
Blaaaaah. So I've been spending most of my spare time this past week reading up and trying to educate myself on proper nutrition and fitness habits. I've decided to make a serious commitment to myself this summer before I go off to university next year, and one of the first things I've decided to change is my daily calorie…

thinning.. err, toning, thighs and calves?
Hi everyone :) Now, i say toning with slight hesitance, as my legs are already quite muscular. Other than some inner thigh woes, my legs are quite built, actually, too built, for my liking. I;ve always played intense sports, and several of my past jobs have included lots of heavy lifting, so I've built up a lot of leg…

Recovering Bulimic..
Hi everyone! So I'm not terribly new to MFP, although, I've never been really active. I'm almost 19 and I've struggled on and off with eating disorders, technically EDNOS, but more or less bulimia, with emotional eating phases, in lay man's terms, since i was about 14 years old. I think it started as a control thing, when…
