Coconut Water Powder Mixes?
I like to drink coconut water for the high potassium values. But, it can be pricey. For awhile, I was finding it at Big Lots at a discount, but those days are gone. A friend orders here on amazon, but it's still like $1.00 a container. A family member recently read somewhere that there are powder mixes that are much…

Proper form for seated cable row?
Okay. I've read books. I've watched videos. I have become frustrated trying to figure out what is the proper form. For example, this guy only uses his arms and his back stays stationary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=GZbfZ033f74&feature=fvwp But, this guy, pulls back with his back, leaving arms straight and then…

Potassium macro - unrealistically high? Doable even?
MFP has set my potassium macro at 3500 per day. On a day when I eat a banana, drink coconut water, and take a supplement, I still don't hit 3500. Is that number remotely realistic? Do any of you hit it? If yes, doing what?

Fat free low sodium, delicious microwave potato chips
Here is all you will need: These are extremely easy to make. You peel a small potato (140 grams to 156 grams) and then you peel off thin slices. I use a Titan peeler which is the best in my humble opinion. Spray a microwave chip rack and plate with nonstick olive oil spray. I spray the chips themselves with the non stick…

Year-End Total losses or Overall losses - New Year Check-in
Even with sodium swelling & holiday piggy overeating... I still did my official start of the year weigh-in and measurements. It is a time to look at all we've accomplished and look forward to what we will do in the New Year. Here are my results, what are yours? Overall losses to date (and I didn't start measuring my arms &…

Best Max Weight for strength training muscle building
I had read & thought that the amount of weight to move for building is the amount of weight you can just manage 10-12 reps with. But, a family member recently said he thought it should be the max amount you could just barely do even if only 3-5 reps. What do y'all think & why?

Seated rows with free weights? How?
I keep reading about different routines that folks do and an exercise I keep seeing mentioned for women to do is "seated rows"... this is somehow done with free weights? Can you describe how? I do standing upright rows. Is this somehow the same? Inquiring mind here wants to know.

1/2 inch heights - what do you use for tracking & planning?
Just curious. I am 5' 8 1/2" tall. Whenever I have to put my height into heart rate monitors, body fat meters, TDEE calculators, etc., they NEVER have the 1/2" size as an option. So, should I use 5'8" or 5'9"? Which is more likely to give the better results and more accurate tracking and planning? Anyone have any thoughts…

Minimum calories that are enough regardless of exercise
MFP usually gives me a warning when my net calories are too low after exercise and I close out my diary for the day. This happens even if I'm just short 100 calories. But, I've noticed something lately. On days when I've had big calorie burns, I can be short net 500+ calories. No warning that I am burning too little is…

On days when I've had big calorie burns, I can be short net 500+ calories and get no warning. I'm wondering I'd there is a certain minimum amount that once…

The World has ended! Is anybody still out there with me?
Well, according to the Mayan Calendar... the world has now ended. Yet, I feel conspicuously still alive. Is there anybody out there still with me and up at this silly hour? It's just after midnight EST where I am... oh nooo... what if the Mayans were on Pacific or Mountain time?? Aaaaaaaaah. Of course, if you're in…

You may have The SILENT Killer with NO symptoms right now
A friend of mine just died recently and unexpectedly. He was young, only 48 years old. He died without warning. He died on his couch. He left behind his young wife and 2 young girls. It put me in mind that many folks don't realize there are health conditions which can kill them without notice or symptoms... and, there are…

Rolling out your muscles with The Stick or a Foam Roller
I have a device called "The Stick". You use it after workouts to roll out or massage your muscles. It feels wonderful. But, it didn't really come with directions on how best to use it. I also have a large blue foam roller which is supposed to be great for massaging your whole body, and especially your IT band. I'll post…

Hot Yoga - Does Heat Really Make a Difference? Good or Bad?
Okay, I've been hearing about Hot Yoga. Some folks recommend getting the DVD as a good travel exercise video. Others talk about going to the classes and having it be an amazing experience. My thing is this... it is supposed to be done in a room that is 105 degrees? Really? So, you turn a heater on in a small room if you…

Is grass-fed beef really more lean? Nutritional data?
I was at a farmers market recently. One of the vendors told me his grass-fed organic ground chuck meat was actually a lot leaner than the meats I would buy in the store. However, he could not give me any fat percentages or other nutritional data. Does anyone know if this is true, that a pure grazing grass fed stock animal…

ISO Recipe for Raw Zesty Nacho Kale Chips
There is a snack chip that is MEGA healthy for you and tastes totally SCRUMPTIOUS. I am IN LOVE with them. But, ... they cost a FORTUNE. I mean it. A teensy weensy bag is like $6 to $8. I know it cannot possibly cost that much to make because buying kale in large bulk bunches is dirt cheap. I buy it all the time and throw…

Zumba - the reality of HRM & calorie burn
I love Zumba. So, I'll say that upfront. I used to do my beginner's fun, full of dancing DVD (the original where you jump right into it, not the icky new Guthie Renker version) & I used to go to some local classes for it. Back then, I was just getting back into shape & it was a heck of a workout for me ... Or felt like it,…

What foods or combos make you feel full?
I have noticed a trend with me personally. On the days that I eat a big salad as part of my meals, loaded with lots of veggies and greens, I am less hungry the entire day. I don't know why. I've read articles on how proteins are supposed to last longer or carbs burn first when exercising and whatever.... but, it just…

Own Zone programming on their Polar HRM - April Fools?
Okay... I'm a little exasperated right now. I'll admit it. I was all enthused that there might be an easier way to determine where my level should be now for MHR and THR. My RS100 Polar HRM will "test" my heart's condition and performance for the day and then set a proper working level. Cool, I think. So, armed with my HRM…

Self-testing your own Maximum Heart Rate
I use a Polar RS100 HRM. When I first started getting back into shape, I did test my resting heart rate, but I only used the age-related formula to determine my max. I set my goals modestly. I have now lost 57 pounds and am notably in much better shape physically. I work out 5 to 6 days a week. The other day when doing a…

Help my ignorance... does nutritional yeast contain gluten?
I am finding recipes that call for "nutritional yeast". I don't even know what that is. But, I wonder, does it contain gluten? If it does, is their a good gluten free alternative? I am in love with a certain food and every recipe I find for it says to use that to make it. Help. Do any of you know?

Accurate calorie count: Should u count your vitamins or Rx?
Okay, it wasn't until I noticed one of my fitness buds on here was counting his vitamins and listing them in his diary every day that I even thought about all those chalky tablets and gels that I take for various health reasons (e.g. fish oil, etc.). So, I wondered and started scanning bar codes on my vitamins. What a…

Have I really lost THAT much lean muscle mass? Help!
I have lost 53 pounds so far which is approx 20% of my total body mass. According to the body fat meter I use, I had 45.9% body fat when I started. I am now 39.7% body fat. So, that would suggest that while I've lost 20% of my overall mass, I've only lost 6% fat. Can this be true? Wouldn't that mean I've lost 14% lean…

To bra or not to bra: How do you measure your bust?
I am always wondering what is the best, most correct way to measure your bust. Is it more accurate to do it braless to get the true width wherever it lies? Or is it still best to measure while in the bra even though that could be skewed by the fit, squish, uplift, compression, etc. of the bra, not to mention the minimal…
