Knee problems with the Elliptical machine
I've joined a gym this week and decided to work on the Elliptical because it's supposed to be lower impact and not cause knee problems like a treadmill does. I noticed the first time I got on it that my right knee seemed to pull with every downward motion. After using one 3 days this week, my knee is swollen and tight. Has…

Has anyone else noticed this?
I set a weight loss goal based on what I used to weigh when I felt good about myself. This is the first time I've done cardio and strength training with weight loss. I seem to be stuck at 5 pounds above my goal. People say I look thin and my size 6 pants are starting to feel kind of loose. Is it possible I set my goal too…

I'm going to approach quitting smoking like I approached MFP
Hubby and I have been told by countless docs to quit smoking. We know we need to. Both of our mothers died from smoke related illness. We have both quit numerous times but gained weight, became grumpy, started again. In all these years we have never given up nicotine altogether. We stopped smoking for a year but simply…

Stopped smoking 72 hours ago.
I'm feeling really good about this quit. I'm not eating any more than I ate before my quit. I think I'm really paranoid and may even be eating less right now. Has anyone else successfully stopped smoking and kept their weight off at the same time?

MFP and quitting smoking.
I was so worried about gaining weight when I quit smoking 10 days ago. MFP makes it easy. The last time I quit (8 years ago), I gained 25 pounds. This time will be different because I'm keeping track of my calories as I go. I love that I can get more calories with exercise. The exercise also really helps with my stress.…

I am free!
I just finished Allen Carr's book about "The Easyway to quit smoking". I am now a non-smoker.

Smoking.
Oh my gosh you guys. I figured out last night that hubby and I spend $5000 a year to support a smoking habit. Cigarettes are gross. Why do we pay so much for something that's not fun and doesn't taste good? If you wanna quit smoking read, " The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. I'm working on it now and he's hitting…

Quit smoking without gaining.
I've got the healthy eating and regular exercise thing down. The last piece in my road to good health is to quit smoking. If anyone is interested in a new way to think about quitting, I was given the recommendation of http://www.quitsmokingonline.com. It helps you to reduce the feelings of panic and despair that accompany…

BecomeanEx.org
I'm eating right and exercising 5 times a week. The last piece on my road to health is to quit smoking without gaining weight. I recently joined on becomeanex.org. It's all about "breaking the glue" between your triggers and your cigarettes. I am decreasing the nicotine in my system slowly so I can say on May 1st that I'm…

Finally figured out why hubby hasn't supported all of my eff
I feel really sad writing this. My husband made a comment to me yesterday that really cleared up why families may try to sabatoge our efforts. First of all, we've been married for 25 years. I met him when I was 17 and he was 27. We married when I was 19. We have two wonderful children together. I was telling him how sad it…

Unexpected motivation.
I've been kind of bad the last few days. We've been pretty much snowed in since last Tuesday and I've gone for the comfort foods. Yesterday, I was shoveling the snow on the street in front of my house. My son's friends pulled up in a Jeep. They called him on his cell phone and told him there was a hot woman in front of his…

How can I get my thighs in shape fast?
I'm doing Power Pump, Zumba, and Boot Camp. I'm squatting, lunging, and lifting weights until I can barely move. The stubborn cellulite on the backs of my thighs does not want to come off. Are there any particular exercises I can do to get rid of it?

Circuit training.
I just discovered Circuit training and I love it. It incorporates weights, cardio, and ab work in one 50 minute work out. It burns lots of calories and is giving me the shape I want. The one I use is "The Firm Bootcamp- Max calorie burn". It did make me rather sore at first but the more I do it, the easier it gets. I do 2…

It sneaks up on you.
I lost my weight by April of last year. In June I had a hysterectomy. I was scared about gaining but was able to maintain my weight loss even without exercise for 6 weeks. I was eating when I was hungry and things went along just fine. Then in October, my brother came to town. I think we ate out about 3 times that weekend.…

Back on the wagon.
I had a hysterectomy this summer and maintained my weight loss despite the fact that I couldn't exercise for 6 weeks. Now we're two months into the school year and the stress eating has started again. I know that some of this is water weight and will come off quickly if I can just avoid the unhealthy snacking. I lost 3…

Back again.. 6 weeks post hysterectomy.
I am pleased that I only gained 2 pounds of water weight during my recovery period. After 3 days of diet and exercise, those 2 pounds are gone and I can continue to my desired weight of 125. I was really worried that I'd gain a ton of weight when I couldn't exercise but now I am confident I can get to my ideal weight soon.…

Hysterectomy Monday.
The dreaded surgery is in a couple of days. I did find out that I have a 15-20 pounds weight restriction until September. I can walk on the treadmill and ride the stationary bike after 6 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for eating while I'm unable to work out? I'm scared to death that I'm going to gain my weight…

Maintenance
I know you all are worried about maintaining your weight loss. It's a pretty big fear for all of us. I actually stopped logging my food on here about 3 weeks ago because I wanted to make sure I could do it on my own. The most wonderful thing has happened for me. I am actually able to eat like a normal person as long as I…

My first 5 k
I'm 43 years old and ran my first 5 k yesterday. I was a soccer player in high school but had never in my life even run 1 mile much less more than 3 at one time until after I lost this weight and a friend introduced me to C25K. Not only did I finish, I made it in less than 30 minutes. This was much faster than I thought I…

How we mess up our daughters. Stop the madness!
My whole life I've been around "dieters". There are people in my family who lose tremendous amounts of weight. They do it in the most ridiculous ways you can imagine. My aunt has been thin her whole adult life. Her advice to me when I was a newlywed was to eat half a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, a salad with…

Another obstacle to exercise.
I am not stopping by any means. I've been training for a 5k for 6 weeks now and I'm not going to stop running until after my 5 K in 3 weeks. I developed a small umbilical hernia when I was pregnant with my son (18 plus years ago). It was small and contained within my belly button so I never did anything about it. In the…

Women over 40 and fibroids.
I have been on this weight loss journey for 5 months. I'm now wearing a size 6 pants. My problem is that I have fibroids the size of a 12 week pregnancy. I look so skinny in my arms, legs, and butt but I have a definite thickening in the middle that no amount of pilates or situps seem to take away. I am hoping that I'll…

Need running help.
I've been doing the couch to 5 k for 5 weeks now. I have gone through the program just fine with no problems at all. Yesterday, I ran a full 20 minutes. It's probably the first time I've ever done this in my life. In that 20 minutes I got a little further than 2 miles. As soon as I got back home I felt really sick to my…

I did it!
I'm going on maintenance as of today. The 30 pounds I gained when my mom got cancer is officially gone. I have been doing Couch 2 5 K for the last 4 1/2 weeks. Last night I was able to run 2 miles in 16 minutes. I have strength and energy that I haven't had since I was in high school. I've gone from a tight size 10 to a…

Cried in the dressing room today.
Last night I was getting ready for the talent show and my daughter looked at me and said, "Mom that shirt is way too big for you." She pulled out one of her shirts and put it on me. It fit but I was uncomfortable that it wasn't big and baggy. I chose to wear my shirt anyway. She told me today she wanted to take me bargain…

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around it.
I keep talking about myself like I'm still overweight. Some kids in my class asked me what blubber was and I went to grab at my waist to show them but came up with nothing. I keep talking about my old skinny self like it's in the past. The other day I was talking about playing soccer with my kids when I was little. A…

Should I keep running?
I decided 2 weeks ago to train for a 5 K run and am using the Couch to 5 K program. I'm concerned about my aching knees. They're not swollen but have been aching for 2 weeks. I did figure out that the sidewalks in my neighborhood are terrible (buckled and slanted in many places) so I was going to run around the track at…

I don't want to lose any more in my upper body.
How can I lose weight just in my belly and legs? I can see every bone in my chest so I really don't want to lose any more up top. However, I'm just not happy with my thighs or my belly. What can I do? Should I try to lose more weight or should I just go on maintenance and try to firm up the lower area?

I have reached my goal.
The weight goal I hit isn't what I was going for but after doing my body fat percentage, I realized I am in the low category for body fat. I am now going to concentrate on my C25K program, exercising 5 days per week, and eating healthfully. I may be back in a few weeks if I can't make it on my own. For now, I'm done with…

Loving my body at age 43.
Even though I'm 5 pounds from my goal, I just keep marvelling at how small I feel. I am 10 pounds heavier than I was in my 20s and early 30s but I can't help noticing how small and toned my arms are. I don't think they've ever looked like this. When I was doing Pilates yesterday, I really got a look at my legs and couldn't…
