does water really make a difference?
Let me start by saying --- I am not a good water drinker. I like it just fine, I just have a hard time getting my 8 glasses (10 glasses depending on who you ask). I am trying to drink more as I read that it makes a difference in fat loss, especially if lifting weights. Do you think this is true? Anyone out there gone from…

pull up revolution
Has anyone used it? Is it worth the purchase (actually thinking Christmas list)? Any suggestions on what color band to buy? I weigh 128 pounds (still losing) and have very little upper body strength due to past surgeries. I can't do a pull up on my own. I can only press about 40 pounds. From what I understand, the red…

Is a 500 calorie deficit too much?
Has anyone experienced little or no change in body fat/weight on a 500 calorie deficit? Is it possible that for me, 500 is just too great of a difference? Has anyone had better success at a 200 calorie deficit? My TDEE is 2300 calories (per BodyMedia). I exercise 6 days per week. StrongLifts 3 times per week and Cardio…

Realistic expectations when lifting heavy
My problem is that I am personally motivated by weight loss and am easily discouraged when the scale and/or tape measure does not move. Historically, I was a cardio junkie that survived on 1200 calories max. That technique worked for me (well....it made the scale drop) so I was motivated to continue the (not so great)…

weight lifting at home
Is anyone willing to share their routine? I do not have access to a gym --- I do everything at home. At this point, I have dumbbells with weights up to 42 pounds each. I am looking into getting a barbell and squat rack, and eventually more weight. I am a beginner, only 2 months in, but I am looking to modify and improve my…

personal intake question
Hi. I have been told many different things on intake -- everything from 1200 to 1500 to 1800 and 2000. Quite a range. I am curious as to your opinion. I want to find an intake level and stick with it for a bit -- instead of being confused by many opinions and questioning what is best. I've probably given you too much info…

Is it possible to eat low sodium and high protein?
Hi All. About 4 months ago, I altered my macros and made my diet 50% protein (30% carbs, 20% fat). It didn't take long to notice that, as a result, my sodium levels increased (probably due to increased cheese and higher sodium meat products). On an almost daily basis, my sodium has been over the 2500 mfp limit. Since --- I…

Going on a cruise -- tips to minimize damage
Hi All. I'm going on my very first cruise soon. I am super excited. Headed to the Caribbean. While I am on vacation, I plan to enjoy myself, and I do not plan to restrict myself (too much). My goal --- to minimize the damage. How much did you gain while on vacation or on a cruise? Is it possible to NOT gain? Any…

Do you lift heavy weights? How do you balance cardio?
Just that. If you lift heavy, how many time per week (and for how long) do you do cardio? Are you trying to gain muscle or maintain muscle while losing some fat? I think that I may need to edit this portion of my routine :)

Healthy Thanksgiving dishes
Hi all. I have been asked to bring a vegetable dish and a dessert for Thanksgiving. Of course, the yummiest stuff is usually the worst for you. Any suggestions for a healthy, yet tasty to those not watching their diet, dish? I have two huge meals that day and would really like to stay somewhat on track :) Thanks!!!

ladies with beautiful back muscles
I'm guessing that your back is no different than any other part of your body --- you have to lose the fat before you can see the muscle. I can't wait to get to that point (unfortunately for me, the back fat appears to be the last to go --- who would have thought??? Now my hips aren't moving very fast, but the back is even…

did barbell dead lifts for the first time
I got a barbell not that long ago and have recently added dead lifts to my P90X legs day. Tonight I lifted about 77 pounds (I weigh 130). I am finding that weight hard to hold with my hands. Is that common? Does that improve with time? Do I need to do anything special? Thanks!

one arm is stronger than the other
What do I do about this? For example, when doing bicep curls, my left arm quits at least 2 reps before my right. I'm sure this is due to past surgeries that I have had (and babying that arm during recovery). Thanks!

lean circuit
Just started the lean circuit and I don't think I like it. After the push circuit, I don't feel this one is challenging my lower body enough. Any suggestions?

First priority -- lose fat or gain muscle??
That is the question. This thread is based off my other thread (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/768976-need-calorie-guidance-very-discouraged). I currently weigh 130.5 pounds and am 25.5% body fat. My goal is to be 123 pounds and 20% body fat. I started lifting a few months ago and enjoy it. So what should be my…

Need calorie guidance – VERY discouraged
Trying this again because no one responded. Let's try a shorter version --- About me: - I am a 5’4.5, 130# female. - My BMR is around 1300 calories. - My TDEE is 1800-2100 depending on activity level. A while back I increased my calories from a very low level (1200 calories) to my low activity maintenance level (1800…

Need calorie guidance – VERY discouraged
About me: - I am a 5’4.5, 130# female. - My BMR is around 1300 calories. - My TDEE is 1800-2100 depending on activity level. - In the past, I have been a strict cardio girl that would lose weight by eating 1200 calories or less. - I started lifting weights about 3 months ago. - I am now doing P90X Classic. The detailed…

Do you need to add extra cardio to P90X?
....do I need to add any cardio (HIIT/interval) to this workout routine? Or should I just do the program as outlined? I really want to drop my body fat percentage. I just completed Chalean Extreme and it is on the low side of cardio. I felt that I needed to add cardio to that routine. Thanks.

For women with implants under their muscle
Are you out there??? Has anyone ever been told by their plastic surgeon NOT to do chest exercises, including push ups? My situation is due to breast cancer/reconstruction, but I don't figure it would make a whole lot of difference. I have two plastic surgeons. One said that I should NEVER EVER do pushups and such. My other…

should I eat protein bars?
If so, do you have any recommendations? They are so high in carbs, I'm not sure if they are worth it. It seems like shakes are the better way to go.

Chalean Extreme -- lean circuit 3
So --- I am not allowed to do push ups and/or chest work (per doctors orders). So I am sure that it is no surprise when I say that Lean Circuit 3 is pretty uneventful for me (and my calorie burn is less than the others in the series). I have been doing the exercises (just finished week 2), but I have been using 5 pounds…

rest week from lifting
Do you take a rest week every now and again? If so, how often? Do you take a total rest from all exercise or just a rest from weight lifting? Does it make a difference towards your weight loss/fitness goals?

finishing Chalean Extreme soon -- what's next?
I am just about to start my third month of Chalean Extreme. This was the start of my lifting weights (prior to this, I was a cardio and low calorie focused girl). So far, I really enjoy it and hope to continue. This might sound like a silly questions but what should I do after this program is complete? Mind you --- I do…

running challenge
Hi there. So there are a few of us here because we want to learn how to run (or run better) and ENJOY it! We want the benefits of running, but have had a hard time getting into it or sticking with it. Historically speaking --- some of us have just plain hated the idea of running (and hated the actual running process even…

dreaded week 5 --- c25k
Anyone else on week 5??? Tomorrow is my day to attempt 20 minutes straight. YIKES!!! Especially with the heat (tomorrow is supposed to be 99 in Ohio and I don't have AC in my house), I don't know if I will be able to make it. I can do 10 minutes and 10 minutes, with a walking break between. And the most I have ever done…

Chalean Extreme
Hi there. So I am thinking about purchasing Chalean Extreme. But before I do, I am wondering what type of equipment I will need? I am going to have to really pull together to be able to purchase the videos, I don't want to have to spend too much more on other stuff. Obviously weights are required, but I am also wondering…

want to start running with me?
I am not a runner and have never claimed to be. I have tried running a few times in my life and LOVE the results that it gives me, but I always end up getting bored and quitting. I have never enjoyed running, but I have never really given myself enough time to get used to it. You can't even call what I did running, it's…

I'm not a huge fan of chicken ---
---- but I know that it is a good lean meat for my diet and high in protein. I would like to start eating more. Any suggested chicken recipes for a picky chicken eater??? I tend to like chicken better that is tender and covered in cheese (although I realize that I may need to limit the cheese). :) Thanks!
