Very minor surgery: nope, no exercise for now.
Ugh.. so I had minor surgery yesterday afternoon: a huge lipoma was removed from my outer ankle. Cut turned out to be bigger than planned because it would not pop out in one go but fell apart. Pain is not really present but I still am not allowed to exercise for at least a week, possibly longer. Well.. wearing shoes is…

Why don't most gyms have Arc Trainers or a wider variety of cardio equipment?
I am thankful that Planet Fitness has Arc Trainers. Most PF gyms have them. I prefer them over ellipticals. I remember when 24 Hour Fitness had Arc Trainers. In my area, they had 3 Total Body Arc Trainers in one of my Super Sport gyms. And then 2 of them were always out of service. That only lead to 1 left and often times…

Hill climber without using arms?
I really want to buy a hill climber machine for my home gym, but I have a long-standing shoulder issue and wouldn’t be able to use handlebars that require arm movement. Is there a machine that would allow me to keep my arms stationary? All the ones I’ve looked at seem to involve an upper body workout as well. In an ideal…

What is the fastest way to improve fitness?
I had a knee injury (torn meniscus) this year that, while waiting for surgery and then during recovery, kept me on the couch for a good six months. Now, even though I get about 8-10K steps a day for my job, I feel winded still. Mind you, I’m 47 and overweight, but I’ve never felt like this and I want to feel like I can…

My stomach is shrinking but it’s also hanging
I’ve lost quite a bit of weight but my stomach now droops down. The skin from my upper belly is folding at the bellybutton (which has actually caused a minor infection inside my belly button) and my lower belly is drooping causing it to uncontrollably rub on my more sensitive area. I just need some advice as to how to get…

Be aware of your alcohol intake
For most people the weekend or nights out is where most of the damage is done.. its usually not tracked and then over consumption of alcohol likely leads to poor food choices afterwards. I can't explain all the tips here but in short I would advise that you know what's in your cocktails. This will allow you to better…

Starting weight training has cost me my cardio gains?
I work out five days a week. Before i used to run four days and briskly walk on the fifth. I have now hired a personal trainer to help me put on muscle. He trains me three days a week and i run on my own 2 days a week. I have noticed that i am out of breath much sooner now on the treadmill and cannot run as far as before.…

Frustrated about lack of progress in exercise
For the past 3 years I have been diligently doing calisthenics for 50 mins a day, 5-6 days a week. I have seen some improvement in my muscle tone, but not much. I am feeling frustrated. Nowadays, when I begin exercising my mind says to me, "forget it. You are never going to improve. Don't even try." Its really…

Stupid question alert!
If I use my exercise bike for 30 minutes in one shot and then another 30 minutes sometime later, are the calorie benefits the same? I get that I won't gain as many endurance benefits, but are there any calorie differences? As I type this, I'm thinking it really is a stupid question, but there you are. Happy Sunday.

Just started working out, should I increase my calories?
I eat about 1300-1500 a day. I've lost about 85 pounds in the last year doing so, but I'm still about 280 pounds. In the last few weeks, I've started working out. I went from being basically sedentary, to walking 1-2 additional miles a day, and doing 40+ minuets of HIT 5 days week, with a focus on weights and resistance.…

A good App for counting calories when using a Heart Rate Monitor
Can anyone recommend an App that calculates calorie burn that uses your HRM data for more accuracy? I am finding that the apps I have tried, like MapMyFitness are only using static calories per minute and do not factor in the intensity.

Anyone here who understands VO2max and it's pitfalls?
Ok, VO2max is an estimate of the total oxygen consumption during physical exertion. In a lab setting it's a number calculated somehow from ventilation and oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration of the inhaled and exhaled air. If I understand this correctly, if there's one part of this not working properly, be it…

Floor Workouts
Best kind of workouts which involve medicine balls/ kettle bells for core and arms? But not using weight machines. Struggling to find a routine which can target these areas, but hopefully not put too much strain on my stomach (still healing from a C-section, been nearly a year but I still get pain from heavy lifting).
