Yeah..... right.
My 1RP is my bodyweight 162.
a) As has been mentioned, bench shirts;
b) They don't "say" they've done it - those are from PL competitions. They've been witnessed and judged. So, whether you believe them or not, it's verified that they bench that much.
c) Ok...? So you aren't as strong as them.0 -
I weigh 130 and my 1RP is 135 lbs... Goal is 150 ... (will be a looooonnngggg time but I will get there).0

I find it a little disturbing that a certified personal trainer is doubting the results from an official powerlifting competition. One thing that anyone that has lifting for any amount of time is this. There are some really strong people and they don't always look big. There's always someone faster, stronger, taller, better looking etc...0 -

I used to wonder that to. I used to lift with a guy who knock out 275x5 easy and had no pecs. I was like how do you lift so much. His BW had to be around 150-160 if that.0 -

I can press 185- I have it on video.
You don't have to believe me. I know I can do it. Tough titties for you that you can't press more.
But I want to know if that was you or the 16-year old boy inside you that did that.

You know whats funny. I do see that you're going to damn well try to get to 1000 pounds on three lifts. It be funny when you get there people are like wow she does NOT look bulky at all. We should all lift now while you're like dammit I'm still not bulky.

I'm pretty sure that's a 45, 35, 10, and 5 a side...so that's 235. (First thing I did when I saw that pic was to add it up.)
Regardless of the number, the guy looks stapled...although it could just be timing of the pic...and even more likely, is completely staged.0 -

Oh, staged I'm sure. I also don't understand why someone wouldn't just do the 2 plates and a 5 if they are doing 235 -- unless you are at my gym and all the plates have wandered off that is.0 -

My gym has ten 45 plates. So if me and this other guy are doing any of the three big lifts all 45s
will be taken.

Depends on your ramp up. If his last lift was 205lbs. Then it's easier to just slap on 2x10 for the next lift for 225lbs. He might have eeked one out and thought he could add another 5 to each side. Then thought wrong. haha0 -

hey I missed lifting discussion.

Re: spotters:
I'm mixed, I much prefer using the power cage these days if I'm not with my trainer. The cage will not help with lift off, which sucks, but it won't take a rep I'm grinding out. Also, I don't have to slap its *kitten* when I'm done.
Regarding getting gloved. Rings at the gym + freeweights = wtf bro, you dumb? At least, in my opinion.0 -

If you lift with a ring you're likely to at least damage the ring or get it caught and risk serious injury. I've seen a guy get seriously injured when his ring got caught on a cable once. That will make you take notice!0 -

I can never post a pic of my barbell loaded then. To add weight to my standard set of no more than a pair of everything (and for my oly db handles), I bought a couple hundred pounds of 10s...so instead of a Devo hat, I often end up with a top hat. Besides, sometimes it's just easier to keep ramping up with the nickels and dimes instead of stripping just to put on a big boy wheel.0 -

I'm not judging lol, just confused when people do that unless they are stripping but 5 and 10 is really pretty small for a strip. Most of my strips are 25 lb drops.
ETA I did know one guy who did very small adds just because he thought it made it look like he was lifting more weight so this might be my hang up.0 -

This is something I struggle with at lower weights- I ramp up on my bench- and I usually go 95- 115-135-145/155-160... at 95- it's silly to take off the 95- add the 35- then take that off and add the wheel...
except- I HATE putting on 95 + 10's. How fricking silly does that look?
very I say. very.
But it technically is faster. I've had to give up worrying about it- I do some weird weights- and sometimes it's not worth it ego wise to upgrade to a bigger plate- b/c sometimes- I gotta go back down- and it's much easier to take off a set of 5's than replace the whole plate with a serious of small plates.

we looked a the heavier metals- but tungsten requires finger removal if something goes wrong- and we, as motorcyclist, didn't like that idea.0
